4 out of 5 stars Not Exactly Innovative....But Who Cares?.......2007-07-17

SFU's "Maximum Violence" is not exactly ground-breaking music by anyone's standards. As far as death metal goes, it is pretty much the garden vaariety servings that other bands dish up. However, it is brutal, it is low growly, and SFU are good at what they do: garden variety death metal that sounds good.

The title pretty much says it all: violence. If violence isn't your thing, steer clear of this one. For those who are into a good shocker, this is excellent material starting right from the first track. Hacking and slashing soak this CD in musical blood, so to speak.

The music is punchy, with some excellent chords and guitar work. The rhythms worked well, while not being overdone to hell. The vocals are, without doubt, excellent.

Overall, this is a good CD for the death metal fan who just wants some good, simple music to zone out to. Innovative it isn't, but I really didn't mind too much.

4 out of 5 stars The Peak of Their Career.......2006-08-16

I can see how Six Feet Under tends to be a band that is usually ignored by many. Anything released after this album is pretty generic and redundant. However, I really dig the band's first three albums, especially this one, "Maximum Violence".

The thing I like about this album is that it is an album that throws in catchy riffs, basically because Obituary's guitarist is in there. Chris Barnes (you all know what he does) is mediocre for a vocalist. There's worse out there, believe me. The groove on "Feasting of the Blood of the Insane" is pretty catchy if you ask me.

If you want a death metal album with a groove twist to it, I recommend this.

2 out of 5 stars Was a fan, not now.......2006-03-16

I have three of their albums, but I dont listen to them much anymore...I cant stand the vocals and there isnt much thought to the music

DEATH METAL NEEDS AMPLE SOLO WORK!

5 out of 5 stars People like to toss their opinions about as though they are fact........2006-02-04

I think the only fact is that though George Fischer was a great replacement for Chris Barnes, one fact remains...

And this is much the same as Killswitch Engage...

The original Cannibal Corpse was better. The lyrics were better, the music was still the same great Cannibal Corpse. But you ask any CC fan what their favorite song would be, 10 to 1 it came from the day Chris Barnes was in the band doing all the writing.

Another 10 to 1 it's "Hammer Smashed Face."

Either way you look at it, the Cannibal Corpse everyone loves to hate had Barnes in it, they were darker, more disturbing. Now you just have a suitable replacement with a bit more sub-par lyrics that said "Hey look, I can be Chris Barnes, too! :D!"

Oh well, as everyone else in the world agrees, this is by far the greatest SFU you're ever gonna hear. The greatest listening experience begins when you start the cd... "Feasting on the Blood of the Insane," keeps going uphill with "No Warning Shot," and ends with the most killer song (with a crap-load of Cannibal Corpse references) "Hacked to Pieces."

Buy it, you'll love it ;).

PS. The difference between Killswitch and Cannibal Corpse is at least the vocalist is doing the writing, not the bassist. It gets under my skin when all the vocalist does is sing. Oh, another thing, whenever Fischer sings he tries to look scary and all I do is crack up laughing whenever I see it. Barnes can at least pull off an intimidating look without coming across as tacky.

5 out of 5 stars Maximum Brutality.......2005-12-11

In 1996, when he was fired from Cannibal Corpse, Chris Barnes made his side project, Six Feet Under, his full-time responsibility, and three years later, Six Feet Under released "Maximum Violence." I am one of the many SFU fans who think this album is the band's best release, and it rivals most anything done by Cannibal Corpse. Greg Gall pummels away at his drum set, and Barnes unleashes more of his famous, guttural, Cookie Monster bellows and occasional orc-like shrieks (as in "No Warning Shot"), but, unlike some death metal, "Maximum Violence" isn't heavy just because of the vocals. In fact, the guitars usually dominate the maelstrom. Sometimes (i.e. tracks four and nine) the band opts for mid-tempo grinding and churning beats, and "War Machine" almost grooves, with a slow, stop-start rhythm. But, most of the time, guitarist Steve Swanson drives the beats, and stuffs the songs full of skull-crushing, wall shaking riffs. "Bonesaw" is very propulsive, "Victim of the Paranoid" features machine gun, cascading guitar work, and "Brainwashed" is bursting at the seams with Steve's feverish, spiteful riffing. "Maximum Violence" is simply Barnes and Co. at their brutal best, I recommend it to all death metal fans, and if you only get one SFU album, this is definitely the one to get!

5 out of 5 stars Maxium Violence is the best death metal album of the year.......1999-09-14

First off this album does not sound like the other Six Feet albums. It is a lot faster, Barnes voice is a lot deeper compared to Warpath, and with some gory lyrics and cover. The lyrics are awesome, the cover is awesome and the 3 cover songs on the album are awesome. It is the best death metal album I have ever heard I say 5 stars

5 out of 5 stars This Album IS RAW!.......2001-07-07

Chris Barnes Is The Best. It is Sad that he quit Cannibal Corpse years back, But with this Album u feel the raw energy like he was still in CC. This album kicks totally... This is a great band. Steve Swanson is a better guitarist than Allen West, Or at least I think so. The live Trax are pure energy. I recomnd the Maximum Video. The video is raw. I have been a fan Of SFU for about mebbe 3-4 years now, but these guys know how to rock! If you do not like Chris Barnes you are insane!

4 out of 5 stars They chopped off Jailbreak!.......2000-06-25

I'm sure the bonus CD is nice, but this "limited edition" cut out one of the best bits from the original release; their blistering cover of Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak. Save your bucks and try to find the version with Jailbreak on it.

5 out of 5 stars SIX FEET UNDER IS THE BEST BETH METAL BAND OUT THEIR.......2000-06-16

If you are a deth metal fan than this is the best album to buy. Chris Barnes and the rest of SFU will amaze all who listen. Thier grueling lyrics their ear splitting riffs and their drumming pulse will blow your mind away. I reccomend this album to the evil in mind kinda person. I don't thing any trendies should buy this album. The underground is meant to stay underground.

5 out of 5 stars Their best album yet !.......2000-04-12

Amazing... This album is by far the best from SFU, don't get me wrong I love all their albums, but this one is truely a masterpiece, the guys are back and more violent then ever, the new guitarist, Steeve Swanson, make a great job. Don't miss the luck to get the limited edition with the bonus live Cd, sure you don't get the 2 bonus cover tracks from the original edition, but you'll get the chance to ear Chris Barnes Live, he sound incredible !

In few words, GET IT !

5 out of 5 stars A fine collection of 100% Pure Death Metal.......2000-03-11

All you fools who give this cd bad reviews shoud be shot, It is the most brutal, and cool thing ever
