Proggressive Madness! & Genius! .......2005-11-02
"Lucid Interval" Cephalic Carnage's third release is a mind- blowing musical work.A scorching combination of mangled Death Metal riffage and blistering drum work that have been filtered through a sieve of progressive musicality. What emerges from this smouldering heap of scattershot rhythms and contortionist song structures is a sonic beast of the most erratic yet crushing nature. For the duration of "Lucid Interval" we are assaulted with pummeling yet intricate percussive dexterity , thick waves of guitar wattage that spew forth off-kilter rhythmic bombardment and of-course a fun yet chaotic nature that influences the albums ebb and flow. "Lucid Interval" is unique and intense yet fun , not to mention the freakin' blisterin' production job and what you have here is sumthin' for the entire family. Fabulous!
Grindcore worth buying.......2005-07-24
Ok ill be honest, i used to dismiss grindcore as senseless noise and no-talent bs. I did pretty much the same thing with death metal, (i still maintain that cannibal corpse are a joke.)
Then i heard this...
Wow, ill hold my hands up this is incredible. Anthro-Emesis, Psuedo and the title track display some of the most insane, yet detailed musicianship ill probably ever hear. John ranks alongside Flo Mournier (cryptopsy) in terms of his ability on the kit in my opinion; the guy must have about 50 arms. The vocals, well what can you expect from a grindcore band but still, i think they work well here. I personally couldnt care what the guy is singing about when you listen to the lightning speed showmanship from the rest of the band.
In terms of the album as as whole, it flows perfectly. SC is the opener, essentially filler although i quite enjoy listening to its main riff for some reason. Fortuitous oddity is completely pointless, to the point that it makes you laugh (count how many times the drums are belted in this beast.) The next 3 tracks are all pretty impressive although Isle of california could have been a bit longer in my opinion. Black metal sabbath which comes slightly later on is a highlight (i cant stand black metal so this bodes well for me as its a complete mockery of the genre.) Cannabism is hillarious. The title track as ive already said is amazing, and would clearly demand a lot of attention when performing. The album draws to a close from thereon in.
There is an unlisted 15th track here which provides something for a bit of light entertainment. Play it, (it is pretty much silent for the first half minute) turn up the volume real loud, and wait whilst sat still until the end. I bet you all soil yourselves.
Get this if you have always thought grindcore was a joke. This will prove you wrong as it did me.
THE WAY METAL WAS INTENDED.......2005-05-27
People, this is simply the way metal was intended right here, Hydrogrind! LUCID INTERVAL is pure destruction, it takes you places, musically, that I bet you've never been. CEPHALIC CARNAGE is the greatest grind/metal band ever to exist, their predecessors are put to shame with this album. I am A huge fan of these guys and have had the pleasure of seeing them play live. Take it from me, if you want quality grindcore purchase LUCID ITERVAL, as well as EXPLOITING DYSFUNCTION, CONFORMING TO ABNORMALITY, and ANOMOLIES. All these pieces of work are easily comparible to the creative works of classical musicians but in the never fading genre of DEATH and GRIND!
What the...??.......2005-03-10
This album sounds like an annoying coo-coo clock going off in your ear. This isn't metal...it isn't grind....it's just some lame attempt to be "original" and just ends up sounding like this: BING-BONG, KLINK-KLANG, KLONG, BOOM-BOMB, BANG SLANG CRANG, IDDDY-IDDY-EYE-EYE, WHOOOP, WOMP, WAH-WAH. Please save your money and buy an old CARCASS album instead.
it would be better..........2005-02-24
if CC took themselves more seriously. There is waaaaaaaaaaaay too many short bulls*** songs on here. and the cd tries to hard to be weird. there is waaay too many songs on here that you can only here if you listen to in between the songs, you can't to them by going through the tracklisting unless you want to fast forward A LOT. this band needs to cut the crap and start writing actual songs because they have A LOT of talent and will be something special one day when they start taking their music and talent seriously.
