Customer Reviews:
The '78 set is worth the price alone.......2005-08-23
I had my first experience with heavy music at the age of 4 and have been hooked ever since. One of the first bands I ever heard was Budgie. I own all of their Bourge era albums. When this Live CD came out I snagged it up. The '78 LA set on Disc 2 is one of the tightest live performances I ever heard! I only give the disc 4 stars because the sound quality on some of the sets is horrid, but Budgie still played great. I saw on Budgie's website that they are re-releasing their early CD's with a lot of extra tracks and some in Enhanced Cd format with LIVE FOOTAGE!
Budgie is one of the most underrated and ripped off hard rock bands of all time.
WOW.......2003-06-03
THAT REALLY SUMS IT UP.HAVING BEEN TURNED ON TO THIS TRIO BACK IN 86 THANX TO METALLICAS GARAGE DAYS.I SPENT YEARS GOING TO RECORD CONVETIONS LOOKING FOR THESE GUYS AND LISTENING TO THEM.IN FACT I MISSED OUT ON A TRIO FROM SEATTLE BACK IN THE LATE 80`S EARLY 90`S DUE TO MY WONDERMENT OF BUDGIE. BUDGIE IS ALWAYS CONSISTENTLY IN MY TOP 3 BANDS SO OF COURSE IM GONNA SAY THIS IS A GREAT CD WHICH IT IS. EXCEPT THE TRACKS WITHOUT TONY.SINCE I COULD`NT GET NTO THIER 80`S STUFF.TRULY A UNIQUE ORIGINAL GREAT SINCERE BAND.I ENVY THE PERSON WHO GETS TURNED ON TO BUDGIE FOR THE FIRST TIME.
"A Big surprise".......2001-10-13
Budgie is one of my favorite hard rock group. I didn`t know about some live concert of them until now. The sound is not good compare to others groups editions well known, like Zeppelin or Deep Purple..... but, exist, that important. Breadfan and Parents in live version are extremaly good. Creo que ninguna version podra superar las originales en "Never Turn Back on a Friend", pero escucharlos en vivo parece efectivamente una rareza en un grupo que particularmente no tuvo producciones comerciales en vivo, hasta ahora en "Havier Than Air"...... aunque existe otra produccion en vivo "We came we saw", I don`t get it yet, but it`s coming by ship to me, and I`ll get ready... para escucharlos de nuevo.
Heavy music.......2001-07-13
I agree with the previous reviewer that the two 1974 versions of Breadfan and ...Powdered Milk are the best things on the album. They are two of the heaviest recordings I've ever heard, even heavier than most of Sabbath's Live at Last, and that's saying something. Too bad the drummer on those two tracks, Pete Boot, was a fill-in who only stayed in the band a year. The Impeckable material is a highlight, too, especially Love for You and Me. Get this CD while you can.
heavier than hell!!.......2001-04-11
since there is no live budgie album in the official catalogue, this was a nice surprise to see in the racks. The first four tracks are excellent versions of "rape of the locks",Rocking man","Young is a world",and "hot as a docker's armpit",exceeding the studio versions by a long shot.Alot of energy in those performances.Tracks "sky high percentage","in the grip of a tyrefitter's hand",suffer from too many funky touches, poorer than the studio versions, but OK nonetheless,it's still budgie we're talking about.next 3 tracks are live versions of john thomas era songs,i haven't paid much attention to those tracks(budgie post-1980,while not terrible was not as great as the original line-up,face it.)so i can't review these tracks.Onto disk #2.Brutal,brutal versions of "breadfan" and "you're the biggest thing since powdered milk",most raw and rushed than the originals and slightly different lyricks on "breadfan"but probably the highlight of this album.feedback-heaven here.the last portion of this disc is a live recording in los angeles.here the sound is as clean as a crisp winter night.this was behind the impeckable album and it shows as the record company was behind this band at the time"as the linear notes state".so all in all, pleasent suprise.funky versions of"in for the kill"and"in the grip of a tyrefitter 's hand get butchered at my botherment, but the rest is awesome, especially the impeckable tracks.not for the uninitiated, but a good find for any repectable budgie fan.
