NEW SONGS FOR A NEW DECADE.......2003-09-05
This stunning UK collection takes one back to 1991 when fresh new stars were breaking through and some of the greatest 1980s artists were still producing great work. Of the newcomers, Right Said Fred impressed with their simplistic but catchy I'm Too Sexy that ruled the dancefloors, PM Dawn brought a new spirituality to club music and Blur burst on the scene with a refreshing new rock sound. Of the already established artists, first prize must go to The Waterboys for their poetic and ageless song The Whole Of The Moon. James with the tuneful song Sit Down contributes great melodic rock while Salt-N-Peppa enriched rap with their massive hit Let's Talk About Sex. Candi Staton, a wonderful soul singer from the 1970s, contributed her brilliant You Got The Love and the synthpop band Enigma added flavour with their eerie song Sadeness Pt. 1, whilst Swedish superstars Roxette had a huge hit with Joyride. 1980s synthpop masters OMD delivered Sailing On The Seven Seas and Crystal Waters had the world dancing and humming to her classic Gypsy Woman. The German band Scorpions had a well deserved hit with Wind Of Change and Jason Donovan pleased pop lovers with Any Dream Will Do. For me, the most memorable songs on this collection are by The Waterboys, PM Dawn, Candi Staton and Enigma. It was a good year for the music!
One of the most successful of the millenium series!.......2001-05-13
Now 1991 is another successful collection of musical tunes from the featured year.On CD 1 ,we kick off with Queen's sweeping rock melody The Show Must Go On in the year which saw the unfortunate and untimely passing of the legendary group's frontman Freddie Mercury of ... .Other high points are Right Said Fred's catchy disco tune I'm Too Sexy, followed straight after by Salt 'N' Peppa's equally sassy and attitude filled Let's Talk About Sex.And right after that is Heavy D And The Boys with their stirring Now That We've Found Love.Following that is PM Dawn's ... but still strangely haunting cover of Spandau Ballet's True entitled Set Adrift On Memory Bliss,Will Smith,or The Fresh Prince as he was known back then, with the pleasant, easy listening Summertime, and then onto Cathy Dennis with her dance evoking club hit Touch Me (All Night Long) It finishes off with Omar's deep pitched and thouroughly moody There's Nothing Like This.On CD 2,the high points are Oleta Adams' beautiful melody Get Here, and Amy Grant's fun dancefloor tune Baby Baby. And just near the end,you can round it off with Monty Python's classic Always Look On The Bright Side of Life.To be honest, not a single BAD song on the whole album.Buy.
