bad!.......2005-09-04
Aside from a few ridiculous vampire-wannabe bands and some irrelevant
aspiring clones that have given black metal a bad name, Cradle of Filth
is truly responsible for starting fashion trends, fake teeth, infantile
imageries and,of course, a style of metal that you either love or hate.
I believe their first 4 albums to be their decent best work, but they
kind of lost me after that. It seemed like the more popular they got,
the more they stagnated. A tribute album was inevitable. The good thing
about this cd is bands like Mirzadeh, Noctuary, Wehrwolfe, Born of thorns,
Willow Wisp and especially Kekal, who did their respective covers and
not only sounded almost as good as the original, but they added something
slightly different to make things absorbing. The bad, well, pretty much
the rest of the compilation. Some of those vocalists were trying to hard
to sound like Danni, but failed miserably, while the other bands were
either badly covering an already mediocre song or butchering a good one.
Buy at own risk!
Cradle gets a TRIBUTE?!.......2004-03-27
Well hooooooly shiznit! After reviewing that God forsaken terrible AFI tribute, I went in search of other tributes of groups I enjoyed, only expecting to be let down..some (NIN tributes) did. But, this one, the tribute to Cradle of Filth, definantly did NOT let me down! I didn't listen to this expecting or even hoping that the groups on here sounded remotely close to Cradle of Filth, infact I prayed that they wouldn't. It's a good thing they don't really, either. Anyways, yes this is a good tribute, a really good tribute. DDT do a top notch cover of the Cradle cover "No Time to Cry." I enjoy it alot. The Wehrwolfe cover for "Principle of Evil Made Flesh" is also quite good, if not that, one of the best covers on here. Serpents Aria doing "Born in a Burial Gown" kind of bothered the living Hell out of me for awhile, because it's just...instrumentally sped the Hell up and sounded so different. But after awhile, I got used to it. Kaul's version of "Suicide and Other Comforts" is quite good, but sounds really nothing like the original. And despite what another reviwer had said, Dark Army's rendition of "From the Cradle to Enslave" is an okay track, while I won't say it's great, it still is quite ok, not terrible or anything.
All in all, Cradle fans should get this souly to see how Cradle of Filth have inspired many bands out there, and how well they sound being inspired. This cd is 80% good, but yes, some of the songs are quite pointless. Get it only if you're a devoted Cradle fan looking to hear some decently played covers. But I urge you, do NOT be looking to hear things that sound exactly like Cradle of Filth, you won't find them on this tribute. Infact, you won't find anything sounding exactly like a band, on ANY tribute for that matter. Tributes are ment for renditions by a band, while yes they perform the song, they perform it THEIR OWN WAY, not the exact same way it was heard on the original artist's cd.
Awesome Tribute.......2003-05-01
These bands are all top-notch! It's hard to believe they are underground bands! They all added their own identity to the CRADLE tracks! DDT even did a wonderful cover of a cover, totally crushed it!!!!!! Wehrwolfe tear your head off with the opening track and set the pace for the rest of this ULTRA-HIGH CALIBER CD! Nice packaging as well! I like this better than some of the CRADLE CDs simply because of the production quality, much better sound! Enjoy It, It's Pounding Metal At It's Best!
Your Kidding Right?.......2003-04-28
Cradle of Filth are both most loved and most hated "black metal" band on the scene, I for one think that they are merely O.K., not terrible but not great, but this tribute makes Cradle of Filth look like Samael or Burzum. Granted, they have picked 14 different underground metal bands, but they have picked some of the worst (this includes the incredibly over-rated bands Dark Army, Kaul, and Lucifer). To be blunt, this album s u c k s. With the exception of two tracks, this album is worthless! First up is Wehrwolf covering "Principle of Evil Made Flesh", which, I hate to say, was pretty good. Then to the [those] in D.D.T. who covered a COVER (Sisters of Mercy's "No Time to Cry"). How r e t a r d e d do you have to be to cover a cover song? To tell you the truth, it is not that bad of a cover, but it has no place on this Cradle of Filth tribute! Mirzader's rendition of "Malice throlught the Looking Glass" was superb. Better than the original ten fold. Dark Army's cover of "From the Cradle to Enslave" was the largest atrocity on this album. I have disliked this band since they formed, and now I hate them even more. So please, I beg of you, do not buy this album! This is probably the worst tribute I have ever heard. If you like tributes, try the 'Tribute to Carcass' or 'Gateway to Hell: A Tribute to Slayer' not this sorry excuse for a compilation. Can you say "Sorry excuse for a coaster"? Good, I knew you could.
Willow Wisp are awesome!!.......2003-04-24
This Tribute CD to one of my favorite bands in the world Cradle Of Filth also includes a great cover of "The Forest Whispers My Name" by Incredible Hollywood,Ca.Goth Black Metal group Willow Wisp.Other noteworthy covers are performed by Kaul,Mirzadeh and Serpents Aria.Buy this for the novelty factor and the killer version of "The Forerst Whispers My Name" by Willow Wisp!!
