The members of Prong are angry, no question. While rage is a worthy quality for heavy metal, it's not enough to make the music great. Unfortunately, Prong often sound like they're imitating Metallica, specifically Kill 'Em All In fact, they imitate so assiduously that the most interesting material--the groove-oriented quality of "Whose Fist Is This Anyway?," the occasional riffs of "No Question," the slow, heavy groove of "Cut-Rate"--get lost in the noise. And Prong is noisy, with the distortion all the way up, perfectly complementing a vocalist who snarls more than he sings. If you like your metal straightforward and heavy hitting, Prong may be just your cup of TNT. But if you're looking for innovation, you'll have better luck elsewhere. --Genevieve Williams

Bad@$$ CD!.......2007-04-26
If your looking for rythmic but heavy tunes with great guitar solos, the kind of music nobody puts out any longer, with intelegent lyrics, this is it! Fire up this CD in & get ready to start a raging mosh pit in the living room (no joke this CD makes you wanna get up). The CD is good from begining to end (very rare these days). The only thing that suck$ about this CD is that this is the last CD they did, what a waste of talent! Absolutely true, killer, heavy metal like God intended!!!
My favorite album from Tommy Victor and Company.......2006-12-20
This album, and let alone, the band prong were way ahead of the curve in the metal circle, much like Helmet and other New York early 90's bands. This album sounded much Like "Nu-Metal" before "Nu Metal" was ever thought of. With great songs like Who's fist is this Anyway and Snap your finger, snap your neck, only now is the power and influence of this record fully being realized, and being re-vitalized by college stations across the nation. Other tracks that get your fist pounding and blood pumping are One outnumbered and Not of this Earth. This is a strong album from start to finish, and if you had one prong album to choose, I would start with this one for light listners. Personally, this is within my "top ten if stranded" collection. Check this album out, if you like metal/industial crunching sound, then this will be right up your alley. Highly recommended!!!
The worst editorial review I've seen yet.......2006-12-10
Who is Genevieve Williams? Obviously she knows very little about rock music and wrote a ridiculous review in hopes the boss would transfer her out of the rock music review department with this completely foolish editorial review. Genevieve my dear, you made a fool of yourself.
This is one of the best metal albums ever made and while most all bands show influence of someone before them, in no way is Prong a copy cat band. But of course we all know that.
Prong.......2006-08-31
Prong owns the tight, perfectly executed riff. How the person writing the "editoral review" could compare this album to Metallica or call it noisy is beyond me.
The guitar tone is solid and sounds like an engine without oil. This album shows how hard hitting music should be.
The editorial review was obviously written by someone who has never heard the album (or the Metallica one for that matter)
Editorial Review Is Smoking The Rock.......2006-05-03
How anyone could compare Cleansing to Kill 'Em All is beyond me. But when they preface the only fast song on the CD with "slow heavy groove of..." then you know they must be listening to something else. Also calling it "noisy". It's only one of the tightest sounding recordings in all of metal. There is absolute zero studio excess on this CD. It's very dry and slams at high volume.
This is an iconic album and along with Roots, Vulgar Display of Power, In The Meantime, Burn My Eyes will stand the test of time and never get old.
Prong are the evolution of Killing Joke into metal. Even though Killing Joke are still around and still great, Prong took the torch they dropped in the late 80's and created a great mix of Metal and industrial like starkness.
I agree that at first listens the 2nd half of the CD doesn't have the immediate fire and hook of the first half but over time those latter songs became undiscovered gems to me as they give the CD diversity that helps it last.
It's interesting that in retrospect some of the best metal recordings to be made came at a time when the banners yelled metal is dead, long live alternative. No wonder metal is "mostly" lame now as it's so prominent and popular that it's fallen into the mass produced masses. A band like Avenged Sevenfold is no different to me than the Goo Goo Dolls or any female pop singer.
Prong will never be in the same show as Christine Aguilera. Metallica would though *sigh*

Amazing........2004-10-24
A band that plays their music with real expression and knows what their doing. It's hard to find bands that will impress you but commit suicide is, one of those bands. Upon playing "human larva: earthly cleansing" on my stereo ? I was quite blown away.If you love pure grind? I recommend it!
A grindcore unit finally hires an octopus to play drums........2004-01-27
This guy Lee, let me tell you: quite possibly the most ridiculous blasts going right now. I read somewhere that he employs the "gravity-drive technique," which while sounding somewhat official, does only remind me of how obsessive metallers can sometimes be. So what is the "gravity-drive techinique?" I cannot tell you. Yes, it sounds like he's just rolling the entire time at an insane tempo, but then how in the heck can there be 32nd notes raging alongside on the ride cymbal? Honestly, it's about as intense a sound as can be made on a traditional drum kit. Fierce. Overall, this record somewhat reminds me of some of the earlier Soilent Green material, namely off of "Pu55ysoul," which should be taken as a huge complement. The songs are generally short, but instead of stacking hundreds of two second grind riffs until the song topples over, our man Lee wiggles around almost every part and switches beat and/or timing until you feel he's drained the song of all rhythmic possibilities. There is a high degree of chug on this album, which will appeal to some of the hardcore scene, but as far as metal/grind is concerned, this is one the bands to watch for in the future as they intensify their claw-like grip on sheer speed and precision.
taken from digitalmetal.com.......2002-09-05
Grind bands like PA's Commit Suicide deserve monumental praise, simply because they don't just play their music passionately, which is what is missing in a lot of grindcore, but they also play it interestingly and challengingly, which is another thing missing in what I think is a fascinating form of music. Human Larvae [Earthly Cleansing] is a listening experience akin to being attacked by a martial arts expert, as opposed to an unadulterated, repetitive beating by some [miffed] off human. Swiftly brutal, and very skilled and intelligent. This is amazing grind that could easily be compared to the mid and latter period Napalm Death's trailblazing catalogue, and could also be put up against the supremely thick grooves and sledgehammer atrocities of death bands such as Pessimist and Dying Fetus. So? Well, get this, you may also find the brain-suffocating arrangements and intricate drumming and songwriting of bands like Coalesce, Burnt By The Sun and progressive bands like Cryptopsy and Death. Can a grind band do all this, while still maintaining the classic rawness and unrelenting brutality intact? Yes. How? Here's their secret: drummer Lee (no last name given). This guy is just unstoppable, tearing into the totally grinding (sorry) and adrenaline drenched riffs like an ingenious surgeon drummer, as you can totally tell that the man spends a good amount of time getting inside of the heart of the guitars and analyzing/fixing things to make it all work. Incredibly well thought out and detailed percussion spewings that fuse insane cymbal work with nonstop rolls, very varied blast beat speeds, and some deadly serious footwork. I know it sounds way too exaggerated to be true, but more often than once, I picked up hints of the drumming style found on Death's Human, as well as Cryptopsy's And Then You'll Beg, and even some jazz stained, Dave Witte-esque rhythms. If the vocalist had a raw, aggressive roar or scream, instead of the trademark low-end bellows and high shrieks, I could totally see hardcore kids going off on this like it was the new Dillinger Escape Plan or Burnt By The Sun. But Commit Suicide, regardless of how far they have or haven't branched off, is, at the root, a brutal deathgrind band. I love it when an album like this comes along - it reaffirms my belief in what grindcore is, what it can be, and what it does. Awesome job, fellas.

Not the first metalcore album.......2007-03-12
The guy below me is very uninformed or just doesn't listen to that much music. Prayer for cleansing and this good album tey've done can be considered ahead of their time by mixing the American hardcore breakdowns with the Gothenburg melodic death metal sound but they still did not do it first. They were plenty of bands out before them playing a veery metalcore sound like Zao, Embodyment, Converge, and Undying for example. Prayer for cleansing might be the first metalcore that had a more melodic death metal influence but they still were not doing any of it first. Still if you like Undying, Converge, As Hope Dies, Darkest Hour, Unearth, Between The Buried and Me, or anything that has a melodic yet brutal sound with hardcore roots then you will definately dig this album.
The Start of an entire scene.......2006-08-08
I'm glad that i found this cd on limewire. I had heard of them before, due to Tommy Roger's of Between the Buried & me being a former member, but since the cd has been out of print ofr years, i have never been able to hear it. Until Now
Prayer for cleansing arguably started the netire metalcore scene as we know it today. Brutal vocals, angry yet sowerful lyrics, fast and heavy music. Everything we have come to associate with the hardcore/metalcore scene of today, Prayer for cleansing did it first.
If you want to hear the roots of an entire scene, buy, steal, or download this album. You wont be dissapointed.
Too bad i just found about about them in 2002!!!.......2004-01-16
i am really glad they re-released this cd. It has better production and everything. I remember in 2002 when i went on mp3.com and first heard this band.. and it was amazing. Then i read the artist info and found they broke up. I looked here for the cd and they did not carry it anymore. When i heard that tribunal was going to re-release the cd i just about had a heart attack. this cd is great. as far as i know, 1 or 2 of them members are in Between the Buried and Me, who is really great also. Steal this buy this burn this, i dont care. this was the best of 99 and now maybe the best of 03???
awesome.......2003-09-05
Before, most of us had to find someone who had a copy of the CD or burn our own off of mp3s. Now, we can finally get your own copy of this amazing piece of NC metalcore. Oh, yeah, and the sound is clearer, too! WOOHOO! The drum's double bass comes through clearer, the guitars have less fuzz, and the production overall is better than the original. Not spectacular, but definitely better. If you're thinking about getting it, you might want to snag it. Tribunal tend to stock fairly limited supplies of their CDs.

One of my pals turned me onto this CD. I thought the cover was hilarious, so I checked it out. Prisst has super cool guitar riffs with a dash of electronic grooves and lots of different layers. The music is energetic and makes you go, huh? What was that sound? The lyrics are cool and not the usual mindless sludge. I so want to see Prisst live, because if he/they can capture the energy in this CD it would be one heck of a show.
