Album Description

With their second album, Cast the First Stone, Ensign follow the hardcore blueprint - a quick burst of chords, a brief reprieve from the bass, then a relentless spring to the end, as the vocalist shouts out serious lyrics, usually about politics or society. Like any hardcore record, it's over pretty quickly, but the heavy guitars mean that it's even more of an endurance test than the average hardcore record. And while hardcore is about power and speed, Ensign's metallic leanings illustrate that there's a fine line between razor-edged aggression and brute force. Sick Of It All's Lou Koller makes a guest appearance.

This is a great hardcore punk album! Most songs are under two minutes in length but the aggression and power with which they are delivered is astounding. Easily five minutes worth of metallica in two minutes!

These guys just keep getting better and better. I love this record and it wont come out of my CD changer for a long time. Old school hardcore at its finest. Dont pass this one up.

Vext is the new future of Hard Rock.......2004-07-15

I have been following Vext since they were kids. They are men now and it shows in their music. The song Life's Embrace is the best I've heard on the radio in many years, as you all know there is not much to listen to out there. The entire album is a superior mix of hard rock and melodic expression's not heard in a very long time. I look forward to seeing them at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on August 15th. Keep it up guys.

The album is killer starting wtih lyrics right down to the guitar. My favorite is lifes embrace a definite radio smash. the whole album is excelent, but it now because VEXT IS NEXT.

Raw and Uncut.......2004-04-18

I saw Vext back in 2000 and I was blown the f*&k away. What drumming, what guitar work, what vocals, and the bass; unreal. Cast The First Stone embodies the heart and soul of Brooklyn hardcore. The raw energy the band personifies makes me think of a time when rock was rock. Vext is bringing the hard rock scene back on the map with a innsousiant brand of rock n roll.

VEXT's "Cast the First Stone" is one of the hottest albums to hit the market in years. The lyrics are heartfelt and aggresive, the music is explosive, and well composed, and the production, and sound are immense. Vext really blends the melodic side of music with the heavy side in a most defining way. If your looking for brutal breakdowns, ripping guitar solos, and unforgetable chorus' to sing along to, then VEXT is for you.

Best gospel (or blues) recording of 2004, a true genius.......2004-09-08

Just when you thought you'd heard everything and out of the Deepest South comes the most original sound heard in black gospel or blues for the last 30 years. Isaiah Owens posesses a beautiful, melodic voice, the one that fronted the legendary Flying Clouds of Montgomery for many years. What makes him totally different from all others is his guitar playing and song structures - imagine the angular, jagged guitar of Marc Ribot or Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, turned WAY up, with Isaiah's beautiful, heartfelt voice floating above the raw power of gospel blues. Familiar songs like "I'll Fly Away" and "Wake Me, Shake Me" sound completely new and different in Isaiah's hands; the juxtaposition of his voice and guitar alone in an empty room is haunting and beautiful all at once. It's a special treat to hear the late Sister Ann Talbert on some of the obscure radio broadcast tracks, too. CaseQuarter's earlier release of the Rev. Charlie Jackson is also highly recommended - for Black Gospel fans these are miraculous relases by artists who deserve a lot more recognition than they've received.

these guys are amazing... they take the mixing of old and new metal to an extreme... for an album with only 8 tracks these guys manage to show every aspect and range of each of their own talents and together as a band they are invincible... and to top off this incredible album, they do a cover of "devil went down to georgia" that sounds like a friggin' speed-metal assualt... if this all sounds too good to be true... get this album and find out for yourselves... don't miss out!

Great Local Band.......2004-01-25

Point Blank is a great local band. They are even more thrilling live, which they played recently at L'amours in Brooklyn, Ny. If you like the bands - Disturbed, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Manson, and more, then buy this cd. For the price offered, It's a great deal.
