5 out of 5 stars The inventors of goregrind..........2006-07-25

Heartwork and swansong are both terrible carcass albums which they have melody and dont got that goregrind sound no more... But to rejoice in vomit and if your new to goregrind at all or just plain brutal guttural deathmetal ? Learn something & start here with the creators of gore. Carcass's "symphonies of sickness" mastepiece...

5 out of 5 stars Witness the sickness..........2006-02-11

I hate extreme metal, what an incredibly stupid genre. Why are all these bands still trying to force themselves onto our collective consciousness? Yeah you play a few down-tuned power chords and blastbeats and gurgle down a microphone and think you're cutting edge? Listen to this and take heed, I own a copy of 'Symphonies of Sickness' - long ago I developed an immunity to your pathetic, anodyne attempts to shock. I can reliably tell you that you suck before I've even listened to you, and I guarantee you that I won't be alone in my opinion.

Have you ever actually listened to this record? If you haven't, your opinion in the world of `extreme' metal doesn't matter. You think your shoddy fifth-generation copy-of-a-copy can match any part of this? The aesthetic, the lyrics, the guitar sound, the song-writing, the sense of humour? You probably can't even listen beyond Track 2 because your puny, insignificant head starts to feel nauseous at around that point. What a pity, you never got to hear the intro to 'Ruptured in Purulence' because you're a fake-ass poser who knows nothing about the history of the bands you're trying to plagiarise. You think you're gonna be the sickest, most horrific band in the world? Whatever - you're just a joke. Everyone thinks you suck because we were all listening to this piece of GENIUS whilst we were eating your placenta for afternoon tea. No-one else has come close to topping this since 1989 and you and your 2-bit pukecore project aint gonna change a thing.

5 out of 5 stars Swarming Vulgar Mass that will kick your..........2006-02-09

Empathological Necroticism is one of my personal favorite Carcass songs. The disc kicks off with Reek Of Putrefaction which is extremely fast (just like everything Carcass does) and well written. Exhume To Consume is a sick song that just flat out kills. Along with Swarming Vulgar Mass Of Infected Virulency and Embryonic Necropsy And Devourment hell everything on this album is great. The opening drums of Ruptured In Purulence is one that I have emulated while jamming out many times. It's simple but everyone that knows Carcass knows it. Especially the vocal gargling. This is a excellent album, one of if not the best Carcass release. I still listen to this album to this day.
The original cover blows away the new one...

5 out of 5 stars IT'll turn your brain to MUSH!!!!!.......2004-11-13

I am totally bias towards this album. Why you ask? Because it is my favorite album ever. In any genre. This was one of the first death metal/grincore records I ever got. I was 13 years old when i got this and it blew my mind. The recording is low budget and somewhat raw but it adds to the essence of the album. The music kills and so do the vokillz. I don't post my picture cause constant listens to this record have melted the skin off my face. buy this record. A must for anyone just getting into the music. You can't be a fan of music if you don't own this.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpice grind.......2004-06-28

This was when carcass was at their best and had the best grind have to offer plus its prolly the most brutal grind releases ever along with reek of putrefaction just an work of art! Every song hits you like a brick in the head and its just amazing !

4 out of 5 stars They 're starting to sound better..........2004-09-08

This CD continues with the gore and forensic stuff(lyrics and collage cover) like the first album. The only dfferences are that this album sounds a bit better than "Reek..." and instead of 22 songs, you have 10 well-structured songs. You can find classics like "Reek of putrefaction"(the song) and "Exhume to consume". "Symphonies..." it's more tolerable and "listenable" than "Reek..." (the album). This is the second effort of Carcass' legacy. The beginning of what would be later a perfect death-metal machine, like in "Necroticism..." or "Heartwork".

PS: the two bonus tracks are also featured in the "Wake up and smell the Carcass" compilation.

5 out of 5 stars One of the sickest, most extreme albums.......2001-04-26

Carcass is one of my favorite bands. They managed to create one of the most sickning, extremely brutal music out there, goregrind. Using doctor terms, extremely sludgy (heavy) grind riffs, constant blast-beats, dual puked vocals makes this more extreme than anything Cannibal Corpse ever did. With this album and Reek of Putrefaction, they spawned a lot other goregrind bands such as: Regurgitate, Exhumed, Pig Destroyer, Impaled, and many of others. So if you are wanting music at its most extreme, purchase Symphonies of Sickness and Reek of Putrefaction.

    3 out of 5 stars SickSickSick.......2000-07-14

Oh, no, this doesn't have the beautiful vomitorious collage of the original "Symphonies". Brutal Riffs, Raw Production, Sick Harmonized vocals. Mangled music from the soon to be finesse rockerz while they were still grind/crust "ameteurs."
