As good of introduction to Vitus as any.......2006-07-11
This album marks the transition between the Reagers era, and the Wino era, at vocals. Without question, the band was different with each--but great, and always still Vitus. This is probably the slowest, and most basic, of their material. Born too Late may be the truest doom of Vitus' era (except for their self-titled first album), which is saying a lot, since it's all unarguably "true." It pounds, it depresses, it bemoans, it laments. It seldom strays from simplicity musically, and yet, for all its simplicity, there is much going on. The wah-wah pedal and fuzzed (almost static-like)guitar bits really comes into their own here (a later Vitus trademark), creating an absrasive (as opposed to dreamy) pschedelic/noise influence. It's basic, primitive, but very memorable. Because of these aspcts, if one listens carefully, he or she can see the slightest of Hendrix influences here, even though overall, this is a poor man's Sabbath, hungover and slowed down.
Lyrically, this piece of art definitely epitomizes the feeling of the outcast, the forgotten, the sullen. Whereas a lot of metal lives off anger, this expresses enough indignation to offer signs of life, but teeters ever so close to the edge of total resignation. Every time I hear it, and then read these guys are from LA, I picture guys living in rat-infested apartments off skid row in the dingiest part of town, lost in the 70s, and finding just enough work to keep from going over the edge. This isn't exactly intended as a compliment, but it is to say, they are authentic, genuine, and they feel what they are singing about. If LA is the home of glam rock, these guys are anti-glam, and not self-consciously so; they simply ARE. They are average in talent, but excel at "creating a vibe"--and their sincerity resonates in every dragged out note, every moaned phrase. Simply put, Vitus is for the downtrodden, but not the weak.
Excellent Stoner Metal.......2006-06-02
One day I was browsing through my cd collection and I happened to find a cd, which I do not remember acquiring. It was called Born too Late. How it got into my stack of cd's I will never know, but I remember as I first listened to it on my walkman and immediately liked the slow and heavy sounds that this band made with tremendous eaze.
The musical style reminds me somewhat of other stoner metal bands like Bongzilla and Sleep, but they don't seem to be borrowing as much from Black Sabbath as those other bands are. Instrad Saint Vitus seems to be borrowing a lot more from the psychadelic movement, but blending it with the heaviest music this side of Cathedral (actually that is kind of an interesting correlation as there is a Saint Vitus Cathedral in Prague).
This cd is infinitely listenable, whether or not you have a handful of the good green stuff or not. They surprise me even when I am not paying attention to what they are singing. Sometimes a guitar line will just jump out and grab me by the ear lobe and pull me back in.
Purging Doom Metal Casualties.......2005-11-23
Teeming with an abundance of distorted, wah-wah pedal, tidal wave of slow-motion catharsis, California's Black Sabbath derived hippy weed worshipers, Saint Vitus, released this moody monolith in 85'. Many metal fans were unable to relate to its mastodon pace and counter culture themes of alienation, and the hardcore/punk crossover crowds found it laughable. It's what made BTL so unique; its self awareness was soulfull, heavy, at the forefront. I was one of those long haired weirdos who got it when it came out because by the pyschedelic pink cover with its cobwebbed crucifix stain-glass window, I knew it would smoke, and it sure did {I'm no autograph hound, but Wino signed my vinyl copy} I only break it out once in a blue moon as it represents something I more so related to when I was younger. The emotions conveyed reduce it to takes-one-to-know-one status; you either immediately love it or hate it. I ended up having it tatooed on my arm, ha ...inked, and to beat out a rhythm. It's the personal element that makes this record so powerful; if you 'got' it, you took comfort in knowing there were others out there who felt the same way, and that they blasted out tunes that resonated with a lost breed. Vitus was born too late, yet, were oddly ahead of their time as their music, and this record in particular, turned out to be far more influential than I'm sure those guys ever dreamed of in their wildest hallucinations.
Doom is good.......2005-10-27
Dark, brooding powerful classic masterpiece heavily influenced by Black Sabbath. The music's riff's are so slow and so cool. This was my first Saint Vitus album and it opened my mind. The music deals with alienation, psychedelic drugs, alcoholism, war lust and depression. Don't get turned off by the term "doom" yes saint Vitus sings about pessimistic subject matter but I always feel much better after listening to it. Doom Rock dose not get any better when then when Wino and Chandler crank it out. In my opinion this is the 2nd best Saint Vitus album placing it right after Saint Vitus's Mind Blowing "V" check it out.
Classic doom/stoner/punk....heck with that, CLASSIC PERIOD........2005-08-20
Saint Vitus is an interesting band. Back when they were making music it has been sumised by the music know-it-all's that "no one was listening" and only now are they a classic. Well, I was listening back then, and so were many others. The truth is the idea of a music review is sort of pointless, as it usually involves laying down a blanket opinion, not knowing the potential listeners wants and desires. What I'm saying here is this review assumes that you are looking for some seriously heavy fuzzy rock music, and if that's the case you can't do poor with Saint Vitus. As far as I'm concerned this band is one of a kind and always were. They were playing slow, dirgy rock when very few bands undertook that approach, so that at least makes them original for their peak time (the eighties). Many have discussed their Sabbath-inspired sound, and while I'm sure even the band would acknowledge this, this band is no rip-off. The CD of "Born Too Late" also includes the EP "Thirsty and Miserable", the title track being the Black Flag song slowed down to a grinding pace. There are some incredibly rocking numbers on this album. I think it's one of their best, myself. Dave Chandler has got to be the master of "just what is needed" guitar essentials. There's no "c**k rock" 40 minute solo excursions on guitar, instead Dave simply destroys a run with killer use of the fuzzy wah and other effects. The verdict seems split by some about the better lead vocalist; the first one, Scott Reagers or "Wino" Weinrich. For my money, give me "Wino". Scott Reagers is cool too, but he has that whole warbly metal thing going that I just don't dig as much myself. "Wino" brings a darker sense to the band, ala his work in Obsessed. When Wino says, "..I'm losing all my friends and lovers" in "Dying Inside" (a song about booze addiction written by Chandler, I think), you better believe it. Once again, the guitar work is solid thru and thru with incredibly creative turns and twists on the soloing, and not being afraid to bring that needed hardcore abandon to the instrument, without sounding anything like any other band on the SST label at that time. My favorite thing about Dave Chandler is he has no problem with being a solid rhythm player. This seemingly basic approach to the guitar is brilliant in this band, and really makes the songs catchy, easy to rock on, and brilliantly heavy. The drums are good, the bass is right where it needs to be, and all around this is an amazing band, underrated, classic, or any other label placed on them. Get this album, and any others still out there before they get harder to get. By the way, vinyl collectors are going nuts over this band, and some of the early material, like "Hallow's Victim" with Reagers are going for a silly-insane amount of money.

A good retrospective of Vitus' early albums.......1998-08-24
This "greatest hits" album includes cuts from my two favorite Vitus albums, the first "Saint Vitus" and and the EP "Born Too Late". While some moan that it sounds like a cheap Sabbath cover band, these people are simply lame and probably think Rainbow is real heavy metal. These are the people who are responsible for "concept art rock" like Yes. They should be forced to live on a desert island with Barney records. St. Vitus has the trademark bass (powered by classic Orange amps for that old school sound) complemented by excellent heavy guitar work. Psychedelic at times, the guitar provides a classic thick, sludgy, meat tenderizing heavy metal sound. This is music for gearheads and burnouts, think Motorhead. Bludgeoning, heavy music meant to be played extremely loud. Few people realize this, but St. Vitus started on the hardcore/punk label SST and played with legendary punk bands like The MinuteMen, Black Flag, Husker Du and others. While their sound is definately metal, they have the raw energy and mindset of classic hardcore punk. Standout tracks on this release are "Born Too Late" (featuring a wicked psychedelic guitar solo), "Clear Windowpane" (more psychedelia), and "Saint Vitus" (propelled by a tribal drum beat and the heaviest riffage you'll ever hear). If you've got the first couple of albums, this one isn't really necessary, but it will replace that old comp tape you made yourself. If you like Vitus, check out a band called "Sleep". One word, heavy, man.

This is still very good Saint Vitus - They still kick ...........2006-12-31
A lot of people want to trash this cd but if you give it a couple of listens you will realize it is very, very good. I am a long time SV fan and was wary of this release . . . But I am serious this is very good. Dave basically throws away the very slow doom with faster paced songs. I love Born Too Late but he decided to move on to something a little more fast paced. It doesn't completely give up on doom and the singing is great. If you like SV do not hesitate to buy this cd!! It really is a kicking mofo; I'm listening to it right now!! It is NOT a "last ditch effort" to relive the old days. It stands on its own!
Not a masterpeice, but worth a listen.......2006-07-11
This release is often slagged, but I'm convinced it's because Reagers and Wino just lend themselves to a cult following, and no other singer can replace them in the minds of diehards. There are some fairly forgettable songs here, undeniably, but there are some songs that can stand beside some of the best Vitus numbers. "PLague of Man" is a masterful plodder, and would fit well on Born Too Late. I think "Planet of Judgment" and "Fear" have probably the most hypnotic hooks ever put down by Vitus---especially the former. The title line is repeated over and over in a flat chant, and it borders on haunting. The opening song has a ridiculous chorus line ("We are the Children of doom, give us some room" over and over), but the music is acceptable Vitus fare. More than other albums, it seems to experiment with speed in odd places, and the vocalist (as with the later Count Raven vocalist as well) occasionally veers into Ozzy rip-off territory, whereas Wino only hinted at this, and it wasn't clear that it was contrived. Still, for the better plods, and the hypnotic hooks, I'd say it's definitely worth paying a used price for it. It may rank among the least impressive of Vitus' material overall, but that's similar to being near the bottom of the honor roll in school, in my view (maybe a bad comparison, as I'm sure you wouldn't find Vitus guys anywhere near the honor roll, even if they had the brains!)
Children of DOOM.......2006-05-05
Here's my take on the most controversial album by one of the truly seminal doom bands. First, Chris' vocals aren't as good as Wino's or Reagers', however, his voice is also not as annoying as on some of his Count Raven material. The other big question mark for most folks is the production. Yes, the sound here is very slick, and no, it does not work very well for SV's style. The MUSIC being played is pretty damn good, if not quite as slow as on earlier albums (though tracks like 'plague of man' still crawl at the classic pace), but remember that some of Vitus' best tunes were their faster ones (e.g.,'war is our destiny', 'white stallions'). The ultra-clean production really costs the album its heaviness, which is, of course, a staple of SV's aura. If this album had the same kind of production as 'V", it would be a monster, but that's just not the case. As it is, there are still plenty of solid songs, including an attempt at tr(h)ippie-esque material reminiscent of later TROUBLE ('imaginary man'). Definitely worth checking out for all you Children of Doom, but don't pay the ridiculous prices some folks are asking- it's not that hard to track down, and you'll wanna hear it for yourself before sinking alot of $ in a copy.
DONT BE MISLED...........2005-06-24
is this their best album?not by any means, but i dont understand why people blast this release.
this disc has probably their best production, which helps bring out the riffs - i also feel that the slow, sludgy pace is almost hypnotic."doom" indeed!
no,the vocalist is not on the same caliber as Wino or Reagers, but he doesnt suck either.
so,if you are a fan already, this is worth adding to your collection.if you are a newbie,it is a fine introduction to where St. Vitus was at (provided you can find a copy!)
Heavier Than Hell.......2004-06-25
This album is different than some of the old Saint Vitus stuff with Wino or Scott Reagers. It isn't quite as slow, and is heavier than hell. I saw this tour as it went through Florida, and the band really gave it their all. Christian Linderson (Count Raven) sang his arse off. Both Dave and Christian put a lot of energy into this album and it reflects that energy...especially seeing them live. This is and was a great effort...I recommend C.O.D. highly. If you don't like this ...you don't like doom ..............

A Great Album........2006-02-14
This music is like water to a thirsty man. Built from the foundations of Sabbath but in power they reign true to thier own colors. Thier music is very slow and full of distortion. For those that are unfamiliar with DOOM METAL; It can be described as somewhat cinematic, very barbarian-like rage, with mythical undertones; such as a dragon's growl.
This particular album has great ballads of despair, unrequited love, and interdependence. My description might not attract anyone, but take heed...the music is solid and you'll only wish you had more power to blare out the building.
Many other bands have drawn some major influence from St.Vitus. DOWN is a popular example.
St.Vitus is a band with great history for those interested but, I have to add this music is a particular taste and very broad due to the fact St.V ranks so early in Heavy Metal history. I happen to enjoy most of St.Vitus' work because of it's heaviness.
4.4.......2005-08-25
this album is worth it for the guitar sound alone, lo fi, sludgy, and totally doom metal. the record starts strong and realatively fast with living backwards, and moves into i bleed black, a slow doom song. that is basically how the record works, some songs being total doom (especialy patra), and others being more rock oriented. the band's sound of course works either way. while i do love this record i brought the rating down because of its short length and because i sort of feel it could use at least one other really dirgy song. i'm still going to recomend it though, sheesh, the fuzz is awesome!
concerning the footage: while it is cool to see Chandler looking almost hippie-ish, freaking out during solos and playing with his teeth, and Wino looking like a biker, the sound is very poor. the only parts that you can really hear are the solos, and the vocals are almost impossible to hear.
PROBABLY THEIR BEST.......2005-06-24
this is their best work, with Wino anyway.i personally prefer the Scott Reagers stuff, but whatever.
this release is touted as being "re-mastered",which i suppose sounds a bit better but i was disappointed.still rather thin, though i am sure that this is due to limitations inherent with the original recordings.
Kudos to Southern Lord for re-releasing this - great to see some long due interest in this long-neglected band!!
Feed Your Mind. .......2005-04-12
This album was recorded in late 1989 and released in 1990. This was their fifth album and the last one to feature the mighty Scott Weinrich. This record was recorded in Germany and some of the more noteable "thanks to" listed in the liner notes are: "cheeseburgers, beck's, and McDonald's (fish macs in the morning)"! Did the abundance of fast foods and alchohol have an adverse effect on this record? Here are my ratings of the songs based out of 5 *****:
"Living Backwards" - Fuzzy guitar and a loud, thumping bass usher in Scott's "Ozzy-like" vocals.."I've been gone forever. Lost in my own zone." Fantastic drumming and a backwards sounding guitar solo, ala Kerry King style. A very thunderous, pounding, sludgefest of a tune. "Dreams were made for mortals. None were left for me." Don't worry, dreams are WAY overrated, but this song isn't! A GREAT song! Rating - *****
"I Bleed Black" - Slow, "doomish" sounding guitar and synthesizer howling wind effects pave way for Scott's disturbing lyrics.."Open my veins. I do it everyday." Scott's emotions are made transparent in his fantastic singing on this tune. He really pours every ounce of energy into his vocals. This is a slow, trudging tempo. The tempo picks up for Dave Chandler's guitar solo, as double-bass drum kicks and super heavy bass clear the way for the solo and he really lets fly! A scorching solo from Dave with alot of distortion and whammy-bar use. The tempo resumes it's opening rhythm after the solo. A fantastic piece of molten metal! Rating - *****
"When Emotion Dies" - This is a solo piece with Dave Chandler singing accompanied by multi-layered female backing vocals and acoustic guitar. The background vocals give this piece an ethereal feeling. The lyrics aren't as much sung as they are read. A moody piece. Rating - ***
"Patra (Petra)" - Guitar riff VERY reminiscent of the riff done on "Black Sabbath" opens this tune (only thing missing is the bell chiming). A VERY SLOOOOW tempo then ensues. The feeling of wading through a tar pit overcomes your senses. The tempo picks up steam for the guitar solo as uber thumping bass lines from Mark Adams helps to clear the cobwebs. The slooow tempo resumes after the solo. This is a song about longing for someone you are unable to have and the tempo brings to mind the slow movement of time as you sit alone thinking of the one you can't have. Rating - ***
"Ice Monkey" - Guitar solo opens this song and a mid-tempo beat then begins. There are blazing, short guitar solos tossed in throughout the song. Dave get's center stage with his guitar, and his solos remind me of Iommi's "Trashed" sound. Rating - ****
"Jack Frost" - Solo bass playing starts and then guitar and drums chime in echoing the bass rhythm. The tempo is EXTEMELY SLOOOOOOW! "Winter is coming. You better take care." My body is numb just from the tempo! Dave usher's in the winter with a fantastic display of feedback, distortion, wah-wah use. The aura of a blizzard or gale bearing down on you comes through with the buzzing/howling guitars. The noise suddenly stops and a solo bass signals the storm has passed. You poke your head out to see the damage done..."Your world is smothered. Under frozen ground." sings Scott. The frozen sloooow tempo then resumes. Have a nice winter! Rating - ****
"Angry Man" - This a fast tempo (ANYTHING feels fast after the last tune). The opening pace reminds me of "Children Of the Grave" and the chorus section of "Iron Man". There is some awesome bass playing by Mark Adams (he did write the music for this) and drumming by Armando Acosta. Some great lyrics by Dave Chandler really make this piece..."Hard for me to be happy with sadness all around. Real easy to be angry, ain't no problem to frown." My favorite song from the album. Rating - *****
"Mind Food" - Fuzzy guitar, heavy bass to a punkish beat with psychedlic lyrics! What more do you want? Some great guitar solos? Present! Rating - ****
The real bonus is the live concert footage of the band from 5/16/86. This was Scott's first live show! ANY footage of Saint Vitus is near impossible to find, so this CD is worth it just for that! But, this is an awesome piece of music! Unfortunately, the corporate music stations felt that Rick Astley and Debbie Gibson were more suited and appropriate for the American public, so this album got ZERO airplay. Saint Vitus is one of the lost classic, underrated bands from the 1980's. Discover the REAL genius' and musical inspirations. Get this album! It's pure "mind-food"!
Best Work from an uneven band.......2005-03-30
Sait Vitus never achieved much in their days of recording and touring (back in thr 1980's). They were buried by megastar metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Ozzy Osbourne (solo). Bands like Motely Crue, Guns and Roses, and several dozen "hair metal" bands managed to push stoner/doom bands like SAINT VITUS so far back that by the time the 1980's ended, few people seemed to recall that they ever existed. But with the return of metal, after the record sales collapse caused by Boy Bands, pop-divas, American Idols, and other musical farces, Saint Vitus is experiencing a resurgence in popularity.
Musically, this sounds a lot like Black Sabbath's VOL4 or Master Of Reality albums, with a little more blues rock-and-roll. This is probably not surprising, since "St Vitus' Dance" (a medieval term for Multiple Sclerosis) was a song on Sabbath's Vol.4 album.
As "doom " or "Stoner" rock goes, this album is one of the best. Unlike a lot of thrash, it is surprisingly listenable -- no ear fatigue from too many notes played at exactly the same speed and volume. And unlike most death metal, the songs don't self-destruct as soon as the vocals kick in.
Fans of analog audio will love the tube-amp fuzz and distortion in the guitars here. The re-mastering job is a huge improvement over the original (a lot like the MEGADETH remasters were). Tyhe drums sound like drums (not cardboard boxes), and the bass is tight but still booms out with plenty of energy (the older recordings made it sound muddy and almost sloppy).

a rare live document of a kick ass piece of classic doom.......2005-08-19
any good rock band has to really be able to prove themselves as a great live band, and this blast from the past definitely does just that. Saint Vitus was a classic doom band, sure, but to me they were just a great "rock" band plain & simple. Southern Lord records does a great job here and gets my praise for choosing to re-issue this live album that has probably been out of print for at least a decade now. recorded during their Mournful Cries European tour, they do great versions of songs from their first album, all the way up to M.C. probably one of the only official live records from one of the most under-rated bands out there, this show is truly a rare snapshot in time featuring the great Wino. after this tour, they did one last album with him, the almighty "V". after that album, he left Vitus to reform his old band, The Obsessed.
Heavy stuff live. oh ya.......2005-08-01
I never got to see Saint Vitus live, back in the day but now I have a great collection of live Saint Vitus with this album. If you were into Saint Vitus at all get this album is what I have to say. Most live albums never live up to the polished studio tracks. But it's cool to hear Wino live like this and Dave Chandler is a guitar guru. This album has this energy and the band sounded great. For a live album I have to award it five stars. It's very heavy stuff, yaaaaaaa.

very worthy effort.......2006-07-11
This one gets slagged as their second worst, after COD. The childish art on the cover of each doesn't help, either. And I admit the lyrical themes in MC are silly in two or three places (e.g. Dragon Time), but it still captures the Vitus feel. The Troll, while a dumb theme if taken literally, I believe is best interpreted symbolically ("When I fall down, in the stree,t people stop and laugh at me.") I think of the Troll as referring to the dope fiend, or the street person (also, the theme in Shooting Gallery). The songs occasionally approach upbeat (by Vitus standards), but the Troll and Shooting Gallery are sludge delights. Make no mistake, this work knows how to represent the defeated and the downtrodden.
This ain't doom, this is dum.......2004-11-16
I'll be brief. This is childish, naive and very amateurish. These guys are nowhere near the great Black Sabbath. And don't say they're not trying to imitate them !
The 2nd best DOOM album of All Time.......2002-08-15
I meant to say[see my review from 4/24/2002] that this was the 2nd Best DOOM metal album(if we're breaking music down into sub-genres as people are wont to do for purposes of simplification) of all Time, not the 2nd best album in ANY genre/sub genre, as my title line would imply. There is great music in all genres, I don't want to be limiting in any way. Keep On Rockin'!! -S.L.
The Second Best Album Of All Time! Pure Doom!.......2002-04-25
If Saint Vitus' "Born Too Late" LP is the best album of all time, then their "Mournful Cries" LP is the second best. Here are six tracks, just as with the "Born Too Late" LP(although the CD version of "B.T.L." has 3 extra tracks that originally constituted the "Thirsty and Miserable" EP) of pure doom metal. The opener "The Creeps" starts with a descending-chord riff that sounds more like an old punk style riff than lumbering doom, then settles into a mid-paced tempo. Note the maracas(!) in the background. The song then leads right into the lumbering "Dragon Time", a tale about the most popular of mythical medieval creatures, the Dragon. Check out guitarist Dave Chandler's "When A Dragon Is This Old...It knows only pain" spoken word in the intro and his "It's Dragon Time!" on the outro. His growls lend the song a weird authenticity. "Shooting Gallery" seems to be about the tragedy of heroin use, with a truly haunting slow riff that breaks into a great "wall of guitar" midway through. "Bitter Truth", written by vocalist/second guitarist Scott "Wino" Weinrich, is the standout track of the LP, with it's beautiful acoustic guitar intro(A Vitus first!) "The Troll", a tale of one man's despair against what mankind has become and a desire to stay cut off from it, is lyrically dynamic, and features a great feedback-solo from Dave. The album closer, "Looking Glass", leaves the listener with the immrotally uplifting words, "Cold gray haze will never stay/Don't ever let 'em take your strength away." Words to live by. The only problem with the LP is it's production sound, which makes the guitars seem very compressed and the drums hollow. It make have something to do with the fact that the album was recorded in 3 days, but the production here seems much thinner than on "Born Too Late". And the digital sound on the CD version only accentuates the thinness of the mix. Also, the CD is only 33 minutes long. While I understand the time limitations of the LP format, SST Records could have added some extra material(if there was any) to the Cassette and CD. Regardless, a true slab of Doom that will not be bettered by any other band! DOOM OUT!!
The Title Says It All..........2001-10-22
I've been a longtime fan of Saint Vitus, but I just can't get close to this one; in my opinion, "Mournful Cries" are what you'll hear yourself making when you listen to this album..not because of the slow, sludgy, gloom-and-doom theme of the material, which were Vitus trademarks, but because of 2 things: first and foremost, Scott Weinrich's vocals are awful! I believe that Saint Vitus got a musical vasectomy when original vocalist Scott Reagers left the band; his unique voice added charisma and life to even the slowest and sludgiest songs of SV's earlier albums. Weinrich ("Wino"..very appropriate nickname) sounds flat and dull, and even his guitar playing did little to augment or enhance the band's sound. He should've stayed with The Obsessed at the time, because he doesn't (and never did) cut it with Vitus.
Secondly, the songs sound uninspired and under-rehearsed; it's obvious with one listen that they were running out of gas and in a state of decline (again, mostly to do with the absence of Scott Reagers). The band released two more terrible albums with Weinrich, and then replaced him with Christian Linderson in 1992 for the god-awful "C.O.D." (at which point, guitarist Dave Chandler went by the ridiculous moniker "D.C. Vitus"...no doubt Dave was inspired by M.C. Hammer??). Even the surprising presence of Don Dokken as producer didn't help; they should've called it "D.O.A.", because Vitus was all but dead by that time.
With that in mind, it's not at all surprising that Scott Reagers returned in 1994 for "Die Healing", which was much better than all of the previous Weinrich/Linderson-era albums combined, but it turned out to be their final album, and they disbanded for good in 1995. Apparently, SV's time had come and gone, and even the return of Scott Reagers couldn't save them.

the best.......2005-12-25
i know it goes against popular opinion, but i think this is the best saint vitus album ever.scott reagers is so underrated,he's up there with the greats like dickinson and halford, really any vocalist that just blows your mind.and daves guitar is menacing and very metal.more iommi ,less blue cheer or black flag, but still retaining those freakout solo's he's famous for.all my friends dig this album to,whereas when i play born too late or mournful cries, they say "what the hell is this???".really this is the only album that puts them in the same league as Trouble,Witchfinder General, and Cathedral.maybe if Wino had been given more oportunity with songwriting and at least 50 percent playing time with Dave, things might have been different, but as is, i like this the best.
5 MILLION STARS.............2005-07-10
this,i believe, was their last studio album & what an album!i cant believe no one has reviewed this so here i go....
the production(never a strong point for this band)is actually pretty decent!that only helps the proceedings with the usual Vitus dose of slow, plodding doomy goodness.
i must mention this album re-introduces the vocal stylings of one Scott Reagers,& he never sounded better!nothing against Wino(whom is a doom god),but in my opinion Scott fits Vitus like no other.
in summary, this is out of print & quite hard to locate, but well worth the effort and collector's-market price
