Customer Reviews:
Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04
This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!
Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12
This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!
Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20
Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!
Frank's view.......2006-08-19
This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.
Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Perfect.......2007-05-30
Beautiful music, lovely voice, child-friendly and uplifting for both children AND adults. I gave this to my son who is 7 and he put it on his walkman when he went to bed. Half way through he came running out exclaiming; "It's gorrrrrgeous!!! I love it!!!" We also play it in the car and on the way to school and home. I'm a fan of Waldorf philosophy and the gnome and the elements went down great with us.
Made all the difference in the world!.......2007-05-19
My 7 year old son was suffering from insomnia. I turned to this self guided meditation but in all truth I didn't hold a lot of hope that it would work for him. It did. This CD is fantastic. My son finds it very calming and it helps him to fall asleep. We used it every night for a month or so and now we use it on occasion if he is having a difficult time falling asleep. It works like a charm. I highly reccommend.
Excellent.......2007-02-24
Excellent CD for children. My son was having trouble falling asleep, we used this CD and he is sleepng well.
Excellent, compassionate guided meditations for children.......2007-01-07
This cd is great! Chitra Sukhu is a kind and compassionate voice for children, especially those with sleep anxiety. I highly recommend this cd.

To the kid who wrote a review on Aug. 10, 2005.......2006-06-15
The Orbital remix was NOT done by William Orbit. It was done by a techno duo that goes by the same name.
Tracklisting:
1. Album Edit (4:09, 10/10): Video version.
2. Junior's Wet Dream Mix (8:36, 10/10): GORGEOUS! It's a shame Junior got so bitchy at Madonna for not showing up at one of his gigs (and making one of the cattiest songs ever, "When Madonna Calls"), because this was, really, the best remix collab they did together (besides "Secret", of course).
3. Dreamy Drum Dub (9:34, 10/10): Great! Nice drums!
4. Orbital Mix (7:44, 11/10): Nice! Lovely techno.
5. Junior's Sound Factory Mix (9:18, 11/10): The second mix to get an 11/10 from me, this is delightfully twisted and clubby! LOVE IT!
6. Junior's Single Mix (4:53, 10/10): Edit of the Wet Dream Mix. Full mix is better.
Junior Jubilee.......2006-05-31
This is an amzing single, but the best by far is the one that almost everyone overlooks, the Sound Factory Mix. Its melody befits the cover. Whose hand is that, anyway, Madonna's or a child's??? My point is that the Sound Factory Mix is worth checking out. (time-9:18)
A truly classic club track!.......2005-12-19
This is a must-own single for every Madonna fan or collector, and anyone that loves music from the mid-1990s. "Bedtime Story" was one of the biggest dance hits of 1995, and one of the biggest club singles of Madonna's career. "Bedtime Story" ranked as the #3 track of the year on the 1995 year-end Billboard Dance/Club chart.
There are four standout tracks on this CD single:
Track 1 - Album Edit
The "Bedtime Story" video was groundbreaking, the most expensive video ever made up to that time. This is the version of the song used in the video
Track 2 - Junior's Wet Dream Mix
This mix, by Junior Vasquez, is the definitive club mix that was most often played in U.S. clubs back in 1995. It is hands down, one of the best mixes of Junior's long, illustrious, career. It stays with the original style and flavor of the track but brings the energy up just enough to make it a peak-hour anthem. Madonna and Junior had a falling out shortly after this single, which is too bad, because this was the last really great collaboration they did together.
Track 5 - Orbital Mix
This is a more Euro-flavored, techno type remix of "Bedtime Story". A distinctively different flavor from Junior's mix but equally as impressive. (FYI: during Madonna's "Re-Invention Tour" in 2004, this was the mix that was played during the final video sequence when Madonna was dressed all in white.)
Track 7 - Junior's Single Mix
This is the radio edit of "Junior's Wet Dream Mix".
"Bedtime Story" stands out as a good purchase for anyone that's a fan of club music from the '90s. Among Madonna's singles, this stands out as one of her best.
Awesome remixes.......2005-08-10
In my opinion, Bedtime Story is definately Madonna's best maxi single along with Secret. The remixes by Junior Vasquez own the dancefloor, and the Orbital Remix is brilliant too. There is also a B-Side, which is Survival. The song can be found on her 1994 Bedtime Stories album, but it's still a nice touch to the maxi single, because Survival was one of my favourite songs from Bedtime Stories, and it really shows off Madonna's R'n'B talents.
The tracks are:-
1 - Bedtime Story - Album Edit (4:09) - This is the video version to the song. I love this version, I think it's alot better than the album version! I love the mix of House/Techno used in this song, and it's definately one of my fave Madonna songs. Peaked at No.4 in the UK but a suprisingly low No.42 in the US.
2 - Bedtime Story - Junior's Wet Dream Mix (8:36) - I absolutely adore this remix, it rocks! This is definately my fave song on the whole CD! It uses alot of techno and is great just like every other Junior Vasquez remix out there. This remix is off the hook and so are the instruments that are used. Definately one of my fave remixes *ever*.
3 - Bedtime Story - Junior's Dreamy Drum Dub (9:34) - This version is the longest on the whole disc, clocking at just over nine and a half minutes. Junior uses alot of Drums to make this remix sound brilliant and awesome, hence "Dreamy Drum Dub". Even though this remix has very little vocals in it, as most dubs do, this is still definately a keeper! One of the best dubs I have ever heard.
4 - Survival - Album Version (3:33) - This song is from her No.2 (UK) and No.3 (US) album Bedtime Stories, and it's one of the best songs from that album. It has a very catchy R'n'B groove to it, and Madonna speaks of how she is "living to tell" and how she's "too busy surviving". Definately one of the best songs from the album Bedtime Stories. The remixes of Bedtime Story outshine this song, but it's still great! Nice touch!
5 - Bedtime Story - Orbital Mix (7:44) - An absolutely fantastic remix. It's remixed by William Orbit, who is one of my favourite producers. He first teamed up with Madonna for a 12" Remix of Justify My Love in 1990, and would work with Madonna four year later for this remix, and then he would work with her another four year later to produce songs from her 1998 album Ray Of Light. This remix is sensational.
6 - Bedtime Story - Junior's Sound Factory Mix (9:18) - An absolutely brilliant remix! This sounds slightly different to the other Junior Vasquez remixes on here, and it's a excellent effort. This may be my second favourite remix on here, second only to the Junior's Wet Dream Mix. I love it so much, and like the other remixes, play it over and over again!
7 - Bedtime Story - Junior's Single Remix (4:53) - This is just an edit to the Junior's Wet Dream Mix, which makes it another delicious remix. It's fun to listen to, and while the full 12" club remix outshines it (Track #2), I still love the intruments used and Madonna's vocals sound brill. Sensational closure, bluddy fantastic!
I definately recommend this brilliant maxi single to casual and die-hard Madonna fans, so if you don't have it, click "Add to Cart" and BUY IT!!!! The single is also presented in a beautiful black eco-pack, most Madonna maxi's are presented in eco-packs! Recommended!
"Let's Get Uncouncous" Good Song Great Remixes!!! Get This!.......2005-01-31
I highly recommend this album. Bedtime Stories is really good, but the remixes are out of this world. Madonna is the only one able to make awesome remixes from her songs. The remixes are actually better than the single. Survival, I dont know why it was put in there, but is pretty good too. You will dance all night to this. The video is also amazing and I think was the most expenive one made to this date. The album came out in 1994. I could not get into the RB of this album. The only song I liked was Secret and BS. I highley recommend this album to Madonna maxi single collectors!!

One of the best soundtrack!!!.......2006-04-01
"Oliver&Company" was my favourite movie with unforgettable cute characters when I was in high school. But after I watched "Brother Bear" "Bambi-2" and other great Disney movie which were younger than "Oliver&Company", the glory of this movie was fading in my heart as years went by. However, the music of this movie will always be impressed to me!
I think the best song in this soundtrack was "Streets of Gold". My deskmate in high school loved this song very much too. She often asked me to play this song, and when we listened to it together, we sang along happily! I loved to listened to "Once Upon a Time in New York City" when I was preparing for the College Entrance Examination, because its lyric inspired me and made me spirited! The song "Good Company" was very cute, I loved the kid's voice and the sound of piano, and the part without vocal of this song felt like symphony, pretty good! It seemed that "Why Should I Worry?" was very welcome and well-know to many people who have listened to this soundtrack. It wasn't the best in my opinion, but it was wonderful, I loved rhythmic song just like this! "Perfect Isn't Easy" was a little strange, but very funny and always makes me laugh. The scores of this soundtrack were glorious! Besides the scores of "The Lion King" "The Little Mermaid" and "Bambi", the scores from "Oliver&Company" were the best I've ever heard! "Bedtime Story" and "Pursuit through the Subway" were the best of these 5!
It's pity that I can't find this soundtrack in any music shop now, so I'm expecting the remaster of it!
What a good soundtrack!!!.......2004-07-03
This is my favourite soundtrack of Disney.I love "Once upon a time in New York City",because it gives me power, really! And "Why should I worry?",I can feel the rhythm of the city and my life all because this song! One of my friends love "Streets of gold"very much,So do I.And "Good Company""Perfect isn't easy"are also very good.Oh,yes,"Bed time story"and"The rescue"are very good too!!I love this album very very much!!
I LOVE THIS SOUNDTRACK!!!!.......2004-06-25
Ever since I was little I loved Oliver & Company. I have the original soundtrack from 1988, it was a gift. In the first grade I would walk around the house singing "Good Company" and imitate Dodger singing "Why Should I Worry". I still take it everywhere I go. Me and my friend even like to just sit in the elevator at church and listen to it. My favorite song overall is "Why Should I Worry" and my favorite character is Dodger. I love you Dodger!! I would defenitely recommend this CD to anyone!
Fantastic CD.......2004-03-29
I used to tie a red bandanna around my neck as well, get on all fours, and imitate Dodger's dance moves on top of the couch while singing along to "Why Should I Worry?" (Okay, I was about six and half years old at the time, but it was such memorable fun.) My friends and I would sing these songs on the school bus and during class I would sit there writing out the lyrics. I brought the CD everywhere and sang along to it. A friend and I had to invent a dance to any song, and for some reason we chose "Perfect Isn't Easy" (her choice, I think). But my favorite song by far is "Streets of Gold," Rita has always been my canine alter-ego; that song is SO unbelievably awesome; I LOVE it to death!!! Oh yea, this is an excellent soundtrack to an amazingly brilliant movie. My recommendation? Get it!
I LOVE this album!.......2002-04-09
I've loved this movie for a long time. When i was about six, I used to walk around the house singing "Why Should I Worry?" and "Perfect Isn't Easy". I even had a long red bandanna that used to wear around my neck prentending they were Dodger's hot dogs. As I write this, "Streets of Gold" is blaring through my headphones. Getting hold of this album was no mean feat, I ordered it at Recordsmith and it took them two weeks to get it. All the songs work pretty well with my voice which is sort of soprano, I think. I also have the movie. "Once Upon a Time in New York City" is such a beautiful song, it brings tears to my eyes every time.

Customer Reviews:
A good prequel to No Cities Left.......2005-06-10
I loved No Cities Left. I played it in my cd player ALL the time. I saw them when they opened for Keane up in Boston. I fell in love immediately. I bought this cd about 4 months after I bought No Cities, and although it's a great cd, it's like trying to enjoy rollerskates when you have rollerblades right around the corner. If you don't have no cities and like 'this style' of music, you will make pee pee in your pants over this one. Great music.
A briiliant soundtrack to heartache.......2005-05-12
The Dears remain Canada's best unsigned band. This Montreal band led by Murray Lightburn has created a trademark sound: keybaords and soaring vocals rooted in the church (Murray's dad is a preacher) but expressing secular angst (heartbreaks, heartaches & break-ups). This symphony of sound reaches into your guts and shakes you just like a Sunday sermon. To see them in concert is catharsis -- their music rids you of pain and doubt. What more can you ask for from a band?
This is the first Dears album I picked up and remains my favourite. Highlights include C''est tait Pour La Passion,This Is A Broadcast, Heartless Romantic and the centerpiece, End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story. All are driving songs about doomed love affairs with a glimmer of redemption.
If there's any justice in the world, the Dears should be selling millions of albums.
CINEMATIC, HAUNTING POP.......2004-06-06
If there is a reason The Dears are so relatively unknown after putting out several amazing albums and dozens of awe-inspiring live performances, it is because they have a genre all their own. Each song unfolds like a dark, 40s noir film, with lead singer murray lightburn its profoundly -cynical- yet -impassioned star. Although their recent release 'no cities left' is better produced and more consistent in its realization, the tracks here are much more dynamic, memorable, and haunting. Try to forget "heartless romantic," the title track, or "There is no such thing as love" after the first hearing...a difficult feat indeed. (...)
the revolution has arrived!.......2003-10-13
I remember when this CD came out several years ago. A band that could combine the raw D.I.Y. aesthetic of punk, the sophistication of Serge Gainsbourg, the familiarity of the Smiths, the electronic noodlings of Stereolab, was certainly refreshing in an age of alt-rock mediocrity. Listen to them if you like all the bands/artists I've mentioned above. My favourite songs are "This is a Broadcast" and "Heartless Romantic". The Dears are even better live!
Gorgeous!! Inspired and inspiring!!.......2002-11-01
I don't have much to say...just that it is rare to find a band who can create such a hauntingly beautiful mood. If you like keyboard-based escapist music with lush and heartbreaking melodies, creepy harmonies, and a sad and reserved vocals, get this! I adore the sound they create...

One Of the Best Soundtracks Ever.......2002-03-28
Bedtime Story, the soundtrack to the German film "Der Joker" makes all other possible soundtracks seem like a joke to us Tony Carey fans. Hitting hard with Burning Bridges, this cd is very good offering up good rocking tunes, mixed with the great ballad writing of Mr. Carey. Favorites on this cd include, Burning Bridges, Bedtime Story, Somewhere Down the Road and The Joker. An import from Germany, it has been digitally remastered, and brings out every note of music and Tony Carey's voice and songs telling us great stories as we know him to do. Very good cd and I fully recommend its purchase.
Hey Everyone It's Me.......2002-03-21
This cd I do like, released in Germany (what am I saying everything after he dumped us was in Germany) called Bedtime Story Der Joker, is ranked high on my list. The music flows, the songs are good and I really cant find a problem with this disc and is one of my most played. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!
Has a good even feel through out it.......2000-02-26
This is an excellent cd. Burning bridges, bedtime story, keeping the the tiger away. my my my are best on it although whole cd has a nice feel on it. Friends has a great intro to it and is a ballad. This cd is a little harder rockin than most of his other cd's

this album is a little bit harder rockin than my other tony carey cd's. It's not quite as good as I won't be home tonigth or the boystown still it's pretty good. bedtime story, my my my, keeping the tigers away, burning bridges are the best songs on it.I don't mind hard rock by the way...I have a lot of metal cd's...tony carey does seem to do ballads and softer songs better. friends, keeping the tigers away, the joker are softer than rest of cd

cool item.......2002-05-20
This is part 2 of the 2-CD Bedtime story set from the U.K. Part 1 of course being the infamous and now rare storybook digipak. The first part features Secret mixes but this is the one with the Bedtime Story mixes. The disc itelf is quite beautiful with high quality "shimmering" purple graphics. The mixes can also be found on the U.S. release.
good remixes, nice art work, cool CD art work.......2001-07-01
The remixes are:
1. Album Version
2. Junior's wet dream mix
3. Junior's Dreamy Drum Dub
4. Orbital Remix
5. Junior's Sound factory Mix
the remixes are the club trance that Junior is very well loved for. As for the CD, its an picture disk, it has the picture of the hand on it. Its the same picture that you see on the cover, so get it while you can, and besides its Madonna, and if you are a fan like I'am, you got to have everything that she has ever done. All in all..I like it.
MADONNA NEVER REPEATS HERSELF.......1999-12-27
OBVOISLY THE ABOVE PERSON ISNT A TRUE MADONNA FAN! THE REMIXES TO BEDTIME STORY ARE AMAZING, AND ARE JUST AS GOOD AS THE ORIGIONAL...MADONNA IS PROBABLY THE ONLY ARTIST THAT HASNT REPEATED HERSELF AT ALL! YOU SHOULD RETHINK YOUR STATEMENT!
Greatest remixes ever.......1998-12-26
These remixes are awesome and will forever be played in clubs. Every Madonna fan should own this.
Stop repeating yourself, Madonna!.......1998-11-28
The original version of the song 'Bedtime Story' is just fine, however, all four of the remixes sound EXACTLY the same. If they actually sounded different from each other and sounded better than the original version, which they don't, more stars might have been given to this release.
