This album came out during a time when some bands were trying to fit this image, and some were inevitably it for years. Onslaught were the real deal. My older brother bought this album and took a red marker to all the white graphics of this album front and back, and now i cant picture it any other way, play loud!!

evil heavy thrash.......2006-03-22

This is a really dark, brooding, crushing kind of thrash metal album. An obvious point of comparison would be Possessed's 'Seven Churches' - both were realeased in 1985, both deal almost exclusively with matters pertaining to satan and hell, and both contain a track entitled 'Death Metal' (which was written first, I wonder). However, 'Power from Hell' isn't as technically accomplished as 'Seven Churches'; this is thrash metal at its crudest and most malignly simple. If you're seriously interested in thrash as a genre, then this album is a mandatory purchase, both because of the music and the historical factor. I happen to like crude'n'simple, but I would nevertheless hesitate to rank 'Power' with the true thrash masterpieces like the aforementioned 'Seven Churches', Slayer's 'Reign in Blood', Voivod's 'War and Pain' and Dark Angel's 'Darkness Descends'.

By far, my favorite metal album.......2005-09-07

I first bought this album on tape back in 1988, recommended by a friend and I always have listened to this album since then. I went throught 2 cassettes and wore them out and was glad when it was released on CD.
It is rare to find an album that I can listen to from beginning to end but this is one of them. Mahoneys vocals are how every metal vocalist should sound like, the drums are midpace but are perfect. I rank Onslaught with Venom, Autopsy, Kreator, and Slayer.

Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month!That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included,especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though,there is a complain:i can't understand,why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song,the cues from the Bacchaen festival,music from Deja Vou All Over Again,where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest!That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style,should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes.It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song,will agree with me!Mmmm!

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

Simply put,this cd is as good as any rock cd ever made! "Thrash Epic" is a total masterpiece and a great take on "Thrash Rock"!Once you buy this cd you will be totally depressed that this is their only album!!! I would give them 10 stars but 5 is the limit! This cd is great from start to finish!!

When I first picked up the album, it was in the bargain bin at [local store]beside the checkout, and the price was a whopping [money maount]

Let me first say that "Thrash Epic" is the very definition of thrash, (and epic,) and my current standard for comparison. This no vocals track is by far my favorite. Take the thrash track "Metal Militia" from Metallica's first album in '80, add some talent and a much more skilled set of very seasoned musicians, and multiply that times ten. This track alone makes the CD priceless... not to mention the other excellent metal cuts on the album, and their vocals do not disappoint. From

"Slowly Rolling" starts the CD and sets the mood, "Reach Out" brings the initial anger/energy as the music starts to thrash, "Nineteen" slows you a bit with an incredible metal grind, unusual time signature changes, and riffs makes you cry for more. In between you have a few more clam tracks "Father" and "Earth" with excellent vocals, the latter even a great integration with a piano throughout the song (even the guitar solo) and shares a message much like the title track. Towards the end of the album after the best thrash track of all time, "We Are One" brings back the slower metal grind, and "Myre" ends the album picking right up where "Thrash Epic" left off.

This album as a whole is far superior to today's 'metal' standards, and would be a great asset to any true metal fan's collection.

Since my initial purchase, I've worn out two CD's to the point they were unplayable, and another was secretly 'borrowed' without asking me, and never returned. Uh huh.

Whatever Happened to Fun?.......2005-12-10

Candy was one of the most popular bands playing the LA clubs in the early 80's, and deservedly so. This CD, which contains demo/live versions of the songs from their long-out-of-print Polygram release "Whatever Happened to Fun", brings back those glory days vividly.

If remembered at all, Candy is generally referred to as the band Gilby Clarke was in before he joined Guns N Roses. But that isn't fair. Candy was always primarily Jonathon Daniels' band. Officially just the bass player/songwriter, Jonathon was the creative genius behind everything Candy. Just listen to tunes like "Weekend Boy", "The Last Radio Show" and "Kids in the City" to hear some GREAT songwriting: bouncy sing-along radio friendly tunes with lyrics that are about suicide & hopelessness. Great stuff!

The live cuts capture the energy and fun that epitomized Candy live. The demos of songs that later appeared on "...Fun" are not as polished as the final versions, but there are some songs that have never been heard outside live performance such as "Champagne" & "Daddy Is A Jet". Truly interesting are the later career cuts from Candy's members: Jonathon's bands Electric Angels & the Loveless were as good as Candy (no surprise, with him writing their songs too), Kyle Vincent (vocalist)has gone the AOR route, while Gilby's later work is probably familiar to anyone who picks this CD up.

Kyle Vincent is primarily responsible for putting this collection together, and props go to him for digging up old sound bytes of radio DJ's & Esther Wong (the doyenne of LA's New Wave scene & also Jonathon's boss when he worked as a booker for Madame Wong's West) that run between the songs. Thanks Kyle for bringing back so many great memories, and THANK YOU JONATHON for writing so many wonderful songs over the years. Now, how about re-releasing the 2 Loveless albums on Songtree??

In the absence of the full-length..........2005-05-27

Candy was an amazing 1980s power pop band whose one and only album "Whatever Happened To Fun" was a lost classic. In the absence of that being available, however, you'll have to make due with this.

"Teenage Neon Jungle" contains some great Candy songs, some demos, and some random weird stuff like audio clips from Rick Dees' radio show. While this album is worth it for those "great Candy songs", keep hoping for that reissue.

Candy was the bastard child of the Bay City Rollers and Poison, all big hair, guitars and sugar-coated vocals. Chock full of New Wave/Power Pop nuggets, Teenage Neon Jungle is a must-have for fans of the early 80's L.A. sound. The liner notes alone are nearly worth the price of the disk. Now, where's that reissue of "Whatever Happened to Fun"?

Worthy of more than five stars..........2003-09-17

WOW!! What else is there to say than that, this is a great, unexpected collection of Bay City Rollers-styled glam pop by a band that just never made it. Their only album "Whatever Happened To Fun" is far and away the best album of 1985, and only "American Kix" doesn't exist here in one form or another, which is a shame since that was one of the best tunes on the original album. Singer Kyle Vincent went on to tour with Barry Manilow and release some amazing solo albums, guitarist Gilby Clarke played with Guns N Roses, and bassist Jonathan Daniel and drummer John Schubert formed Electric Angels (good) and the Loveless (Great!). This album is totally worth snapping up for both the tunes and the great (if tough to read) liner notes.

Best Tracks:
"Whatever Happened To Fun" - Not as good as the original but with heavier guitar and a longer outro - hilarious fadeout to a radio spot.
"The Girl I Love" - A never before heard demo that reminds of me of one of Tommy Dunbar (Kyle Vincent's buddy from the Rubinoos) songs. Should have made the 1st album!
"Champagne" - Would like to hear this redone with better production...Great chorus and pretty good lyrics too.
"Lonely Hearts" - Better than the original album version due to its high energy vocals and slightly faster tempo.
"Electric Nights" - Another one of my faves from the 1st album, this may have the worst chorus lyrics I've heard in awhile, but somehow its a sweet, catchy, moving, rousing anthem - A+.
"Sound Of A Broken Heart" - Another unreleased gem that should have made the album, this one has hooks galore.
"Daddy Is A Jet" - Candy's first demo with hilarious lyrics and better than expected production. Kyle's voice is already pretty good at a young age, and the chorus is a keeper.
"The Last Radio Show '03/'85 Live" - This may be my #1 track from the original album, and the new version is pretty good too. Bittersweet lyrics, stylistic changes that keep it fresh throughout its 6 1/2 minute length, and above all a soaring, simple chorus make this one of the absolute gems for pop fans.

***The original album should be purchased in vinyl or cassette form if you can find it anywhere. It is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL.

What a Great Candy Treat this is........2003-09-05

I was under the impression that Kyle and the boys were going to re-release the "Whatever Happened to Fun" CD with a couple of extra rare tracks, so when I heard this CD I was really surprised to hear all differen't versions of the tracks that were on that album, some are live and some are demo's but they all sound great! Candy were an amazing little pop band that left you wanting more since they only ever recorded one album back in the mid eighties. Wonderful to finally have some of their music on CD, now if they would only re-release the complete "Whatever Happened to Fun" album I could die a happy man!

For all the real headbangers and thrashers out there you should know that Onslaught was one of the ultimate death metal bands, and this is one of there most powerful realeses. If you hear it, you will be hooked on it, but beware it is not for posers. ONSLAUGHT..... Power from Hell!!!!!!!!
