It was Dylan himself who said "the present now will later be past" and there's no better proof of it than this bizarre live collection of his old hits performed in big band versions where nothing seems to mean what it originally did. There's something going on here and even Dylan doesn't know what it is. Following the success of Cheap Trick and Neil Diamond--who both scored with Japanese live albums--Dylan took his Las Vegas revue with him and handed up "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Shelter from the Storm," and even "The Times They Are A-Changin'" without the vehemence that made them anthems for a past generation. Weird. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars unfolding surprising beauties and power.......2007-03-29

After the 2 Rolling Thunder albums for me this is the 3rd best life album of Bob Dylan. Though there are a few songs on this album which were changed to the worse (especially one of my favourite songs, Oh Sister, is pretty much ruined) many others unfold a surprising beauty: The tendernes "I want you" of this former fun-song and on the other hand the power of "It's alright Ma" and "All along the watchtower" just knock me out! Other highlights to me are "Is your love in vain" and "The Times they are changing" (never heard this better!) which convey here a expression of passionate humanity and honour that later on Dylan unfortuneately somehow seems to have lost... What is so "Las Vegas" about these songs? I can't help but love and strongly recommend this Live album from the 70s where he truely had his peak time!

4 out of 5 stars breath of fresh air perhaps.......2007-01-11

I appreciate the different ways around the same songs Dylan takes from tour to tour. If I were to put one version of each Dylan song in a vault to be heard for all of time, most of these wouldnt come close. But Simple Twist of Fate has reached its pinnacle of beauty right here as far as I'm concerned. This head-bobbing version of All I Really Want To Do would certainly get consideration, and yes even the reconstructed The Times They Are A-Changin' is very worthy. This song never excited me much musically, and i think it's driven with tension here. And sorry, but, All I Really Want To Do was done pretty crappily to begin with IMO. Regardless, I think it's impossible to degrade the quality of the original classics through reinvention, for better or worse. And to keep playing them in the same vain is redundant.

It also might be the most accessible to new/ non fans with it's slickness and emphasis on melody, in contrast to his more recent performances.

1 out of 5 stars Truly sad..........2006-12-28

Dylan has spent the last 40yrs trashing his legacy, nowhere worse than here--the abysmal Budokan shows, lounge versions of his best material served up like McDonald's cheeseburgers. I don't know what's sadder, Dylan as a raddled-out parody of himself or the legions of fans who continue to believe that he has anything to do with the guy who lit the world on fire back in 1965.

4 out of 5 stars Some necessary Budokan revisionism.............2006-02-01

The maliciousness that has been directed at this album over the years is an open testament of the way in which Dylan fans desire to own their idol, to constrict him, and to demand him to peform and record in ways that are their own, but not his....
"Live at Budokan" was my first Dylan album, miraculously discovered twenty five years ago as a window into a magic world.
Ever since I've heard bile and venom from innumerable sources about it's 'Vegasy' feel, and its 'commercialism'.
But Dylan is a song and dance man, mercurial and a mystery -
the minute you define him and place expectations on him he will inevitably disappoint.
Above all he is a true entertainer, who paradoxically brings everything to his performances and yet nothing, like it's always gonna be new.
The songs on this album are all like that, all stone cold classics, but elastic, sweet, wry, still timeless.
After twenty five years of listening to all the rubbish reviews, I still recommend this album for any newcomer to Dylan.
For one thing, there is booklet of lyrics to the great songs which is really helpful for new fans, as it was for me so many years ago, and the album photos still talk of the irresistible mystery that is Dylan.
'Budokan'is like an old road map on which the street signs are still right.
It truly gets better like old wine.

5 out of 5 stars Every Song Different than Before.......2005-11-09

Unlike a lot of live albums that just seem to reproduce an artist work with applause between the songs, this one has a different arrangement for every song on it. The opening, "Mr. Tambourine," is a rocker performed by about a dozen musicians. It's mind boggling. Every song is mind boggling. Though it came out two years before I was born, I sounds as fresh as if it were performed yesterday. If you think you know Dylan's work and you haven't heard this CD, well you have no idea how songs like "Blowing in the Wind," "Shelter from the Storm," "It's Alright Ma," and a huge host of others can sound. Five stars for this record in my book. My recommendation, get this record.

Album Description

Renowned worldwide for their innovative metal/progressive rock and masterful musicianship, Dream Theater first rose to major fame in the '90s with such hits as "Pull Me Under"- an MTV breakthrough-"Another Day," and "Lie." Their legendary stage prowess and intensely dramatic, high-energy live shows have further built a passionately loyal global fan-base. The sonic punch of this stellar concert from Tokyo's acclaimed Budokan arena-recorded during their 2004 World Tour-proves why.

3 out of 5 stars Hummmmmmmm.......2007-04-06

I truly admire the instrumental musicianship of Dream Theater. But, I cannot belive they would release a recording with such shoddy vocals. Far too many times the vocalist's intonation was absloutely horrible! Normally I rate the band's work 4 or 5 stars. This time I am generous with 3.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING Live album.......2006-11-02

This is an absolutely amazing live album. Budokan in Japan is the equivalent to Carnegie Hall or others like it in the history and culture of the arena. The live cd set is amazing but to really enjoy this cd set even more, buy the DVD as well. When you watch the live DVD and see the amazing show that's being put on it seems to augment the enjoyment of listening to it as well.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent live record from the legendary Budokan..........2006-08-29

....by this legendary band! Live at Budokan was recorded in on DT's Train of Thought tour in Tokyo and is 3CDs (the entire show!) of prog/metal greatness. The concert contains most of the tracks from the Train of Thought album, excellent versions of This Dying Soul, As I Am, Stream of Conciousness, Endless Sacrfice, and In the Name of God. It also contains some real gems: an incredible version of Hollow Years with an extended guitar intro, Trial of Tears, New Millennium (one of the best songs from 1997's Falling Into Inifinity), a 20-minute Beyond This Life which includes a fun keyboard/drum duel between Jordan Rudess and Mike Portnoy, Instrumedley, which contains portions of: Ytse Jam, A Change of Seasons, Paradigm Shift, Hell's Kitchen, Erotomania, The Dance of Eternity, and other bits I'm probably leaving out. Also included are 4 parts from the song Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, as well as the rarely played Disappear. All in all, from beginning to end, this is an incredible live document of the band. And James' voice sounds almost back to full power, and for the most part sounds really good, although not as good as it did on Live at the Marquee or Live Scenes From New York. An essential live DT album (they all are!)

5 out of 5 stars The Best Ever Techniqual Metal ever.......2006-07-04

Dream Theater, i think anyway, is the best techniqual band i've heard... the review from Rushead does no justice to this DVD.. although i must say the singing in this show isn't the best(sounds better most other times), the real centre of this show is the instrumentals, as they are a techniqual band, and its the best of quality.. the skill on the guitar of John Petrucci is unbelivable, and combinded with the touch of Yngwie Malmsteen with his keyboard abilities makes a fantastic show. Any metal, or person appreciative of skilled musicans will love this DVD...

2 out of 5 stars I don't get it.......2006-04-22

A friend gave me a promo copy of this a while back so I was excited to listen because I had heard a couple Dream Theater tracks before in the past and they seemed cool. I have to say, I don't get what anyone likes about this band. Tons of spliced-together solos that go nowhere and have absolutely no soul. And the lead singer's voice is like listening to someone's fingernails scraping across a chalkboard. Geddy Lee sounds like a great singer next to this guy (I could care less what his name is). I give it a GENEROUS two stars.

5 out of 5 stars Chic: Live and MORE!.......2007-07-17

Chic's grooves were always slick and laid back - the vocals soft and breezy. But with this live recording and new vocalists, the Chic sound is made up-to-date, funky, and high-energy! Nowhere is this more evident than on my favorite cut "I Want Your Love." Though Sylver Sharp-Logan makes it evident that she "handles" the lead vocals, she does it with a soulfulness that the previous singers just can't touch. I love the fact that she takes these old standards and makes them her own rather than trying to rehash the past. In an email discussion with the living genius behind Chic himself, I made a comparison between Ms. Logan-Sharp and a real old-school singer (who shall remain nameless) because of the grit in her vocal delivery. But I don't think it was appreciated the way it was intended.

Sylver's interpretative abilities seem to propel the band to a higher plane level. These cats play as though they truly live and breathe for the music, yet all of the elements that made Chic the band it was are still there on this set: Bernard providing the foundation that Nile playfully underscores; the drummer pounding it out playing the role of !; the keyboards tinkling effortlessly in the background while the horns blare; the back-up vocals blend carefully allowing Sylver to "do what she do." Her adlibs bring a spontaneous, light-hearted quality during the instrumental hooks that is unparalleled by any other Chic vocalist. "I Want Your Love" done live is on a level with Chic's original mix of Diana Ross' "Tenderness" - which I would love to hear Sylver cover along with "Have Fun (Again)."

The only thing missing is the Chic strings. Here they are replaced by horns and, to a lesser extent, synthesizers.

"Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah...)" while not vocally perfect is a marvelous interpretation of one of their first hits. The jazzy keyboard solo highlights one of the more underrated strengths of this band. The keys were always tastefully arranged without being overdone. Here the keyboardist runs free!

"Le Freak" is what the live version should sound like - a great rendition with Slash giving the song a new dimension his blazing guitar solo. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, here comes Chic with "Good Times" to keep the party rollin'! The inclusion of a taste of "Rapper's Delight" shows that Chic's influence reached far beyond disco.

Sister Sledge's appearance with "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family" is a fun addition to this great concert! And for a live performance, they sound great to me! The music here is equally phenomenal - especially the musical break on "...Family"! Funky, fresh, FUN!

This concert CD was released in 1999 and still sounds FRESH and DYNAMIC in 2007! It just goes to show you that Chic's music has the most important quality that a band could ever strive for...

TIMELESSNESS!!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best "live" albums that I've ever heard!.......2004-09-26

"Chic: Live at the Budokan" captures the verve and wizardry of the 1997 concert in Japan. Chic was more than just a "disco band"; it was an assemblage of gifted musicians, headed by Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards. The interpretations of the band's greatest hits take those songs to another level, permitting longer and jazzier extensions of these familiar chart-toppers.

Rodgers and Edwards knew the pulse of the times and produced numerous hits for themselves, as well as others. Label mates Sister Sledge, who were produced by Rodgers and Edwards, appear on "The Greatest Dancer" and the disco anthem "We Are Family". Also, Steve Winwood adds his distinctive vocals to this monumental concert.

The sound quality is excellent, allowing the listener to feel as if he/she is actually there.

Fans of the band or not will enjoy this live release that is definitely kicking!

5 out of 5 stars At their BEST!!!.......2002-11-23

Getting to the meat of the matter with Nile winning the Producer Of The Year in Japan that year and may I say a quick thinking Nile putting Chic together W/O Tony Thompson was a very smart move but, I think that it still really wasn't Chic without Tony not being part of this event. I think that Nile was very heart felt with the passing of Benard and this being his LAST performance and it being a great one at that...it was good to hear him be so positive even though his life ended the next day after that show....we do miss him!!!!
With all the guess in toe....like Slash, Steve Windwood, Simon La Bon, Sister Sledge and everyone that was a part of this great night and with all the good dance songs that made Chic so great and the musicainship....it's just unexplianible to be so dam good
If you don't have this CD then you're missing out.....not only with Nile but with how great of a group Chic really was because, in the late 70's they were a powerhouse and the writing of songs like "Dance,Dance,Dance & Le Freak" who can go wrong and all the mambers going forward in the music industry as musicians and producers. So if you have the chance to grab this CD before it goes out of print do so because, if you miss it that would be a very SAD!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Just Like a Diamond in the Rough !.......2002-11-12

First, let's get the list of shortcomings out of the way from this performance. I was hoping for more of their hits and less interludes or tracks with interviews. Secondly, one of the reasons I purchased this performance was to hear the soulful vocals of ex-Prince protogee singer Jill Jones (hailed by music critics as the best female singer to come out of the Paisley one's camp); She is faint and lost in the backup somewhere. One embarrassing moment occurs when Jill Jones is introduced in track 14 of Chic Cheer and she ad libs/sings something that is a far cry of what she is really capable of doing ! Female lead vocalist Sylver Logan Sharp is right on the money but her vocals are too deep to be reminiscent of anything original singers Norma Jean and Alfa Anderson offered with the original lineup. Jean and Anderson would co-harmonize smoothly; it was not a contest to see who could outperform who! Therefore, Sharp overpowers Jone's silky and soulful vocals !Vocals by Sister Sledge seem to falter a little bit in contrast to their awesome vocal work back in the late 70's. Finally, if you are going to record a concert album with all tracks, then include all the tracks. There is another cd version of this Live At Budokan performance that includes Simon LeBon of Duran Duran fame who performs Notorious with Chic. The catch is that you have to fork over some bucks no matter who sells it because it is a Japanese only import...so, then a Chic fan has to ask him/herself if it's worth the money for this one added extra bonus track;who knows...

Now the good stuff ! It's truly a magnificent historical performance unpolished by post studio electronic trickery or contrived production ; What you hear is what you get. The music is more rock-funk than outdated disco. Some of the songs are fitted with a firmer, tighter, more solid up to date edge with great guitar licks by Slash and blue eyed soulful vocals by Steve Winwood. The late Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers proved in 96' that Chic never lost their touch. After all, this multi-talented duo produced some of the most incredible, memorable and skillfully crafted dance, r&b, funk music that will never fade or die. This is where the young and curious can get their 101 basic fundamentals in discovering where the basis of hip hop and other dance music came from. Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards were musical survivors long after the death or "mutation" of disco. All this is evident in the writing and producing they did in the 80's for mega stars David Bowie, Madonna, Duran,Duran,...and the list goes on. One of the best albums they produced for any artist or artists were labelmates Sister Sledge's 1979 We Are Family album;that is another review for another time, though. Despite, the cons I listed in the beginning of this review it is the more solid and positive aspects of this recording that allows me to grant this recording 4 stars !!

5 out of 5 stars for connoisseurs..........2002-09-08

Chic is one of those rare bands who mixed worldwide success and high quality music. Due to unforgettable tunes as well as exceptionnal musicians, their songs ran all over the world and still run in many heads. Nevertheless, if you're not a chic fan, don't buy this album : its sound, its guests are not what a new listener could expect and are not significantly representative of what Chic has done in the late 70's. On the other hand, if you're a chic fan, buy it right away : it cannot be absent from your CD player. Very moving interviews from the all-time genius Bernard Edwards, extended versions, wonderful digressions : you'll discover a whole new Chic and it won't leave your player for a long time ! Check your heartbeat when Bernard says, during chic cheer, "I've got the Tokyo flu". Knowing he died a few hours after that live session...

3 out of 5 stars Didn't make me more of a fan.......2005-08-23

I'm a casual listener, not a great fan, of Sheryl Crow. But the great Amazon recommendations service keeps recommending her music to me based on my past purchases or browsing. So I thought I'd take a look. After surfing around the Crow catalog awhile, I decided that if I was going to get one Sheryl Crow album, this would be it.

I've listened to this CD several times at work now, and I think: It's OK. Not great, not going to make me over into a huge fan, not revealing new aspects of her work. My original conclusion was on the mark: I could have done without a Sheryl Crow CD, but if I wanted to get one, this was a fine choice.

5 out of 5 stars As good as advertised.......2003-10-21

Save yourself the time of reading through all these reviews and buy the CD! I rolled the dice, paid for what seemed like the same collection of songs with the 2 new classics ("Soak Up the Sun" and "Steve McQueen") along with my least favorite tracks from "C'mon C'mon". This CD rocks even better than "Live From Central Park". Sound quality is exceptional. Kind of embarrasing that the Tokyo crowd was absolutely dead. Sheryl was dead on. Every song is extended with cutting riffs and one of the highlights is her inclusion of the Who's "Can't Explain" (I won't tell you where). A little disappointing that "Safe and Sound", "You're an Original" and "Leaving Las Vegas" didn't make it, but hey, this one's still worth every penny.

If you're a Sheryl fan, this one should not be missing from your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Sheryl does it again!.......2003-10-12

What a great recording! Sheryl is always great, but this is an outstanding live recording that really shows her more recent style. The opening is a full tilt version of "Steve McQueen" and the versions of "Home" and "Strong Enough" are the best that I've heard! Like others I only wish that some other of her favorites were included. Don't let the price drive you away! It is well worth it!

5 out of 5 stars Far better than _Central Park_, essential for Sheryl fans.......2003-08-17

There really is no comparison between the fairly muddy recording of the backing band in Central Park and the crisp, defined sound captured on _Live at Budokan_, by tour engineer Bruce Knight and a recording staff provided at a local Tokyo studio. The main beneficiaries are Tim Smith's amplified-acoustic rhythm parts and Jim Bogios' drums, and in particular the drums receive excellent definition where they had sounded as dull thuds and crashes previously. The balance between Sheryl's vocals, the backing vocals of the guitarists and the drummer and the instruments as a whole is superb, as good as any studio recording I have heard.

More subjectively, this captures a well-rehearsed, energetic band at peak performance and in command of a broad rock vocabulary. "A Change Would Do You Good" sounds progressively better since its studio release, the best performance on _Live in Central Park_ and the hands-down rocker of the show at Budokan. As an inside joke for fans of hers who share her Sixties favorites, the song begins as a faithful if transposed nod to the Who's "I Can See for Miles" - perfect, now that I've heard it - and ends with one verse and chorus of "I Can't Explain." The band nails it, especially Bogios' simon-pure reproduction of Keith Moon's work and Sheryl's perfect, snarling evocation of Roger Daltrey. The slower songs in her catalog hit just as hard as the rockers, and this marks the first time "Home," probably her most sadly beautiful song, appears in a live recording available on CD (you'd have to buy her 1999 DVD before now).

However, I hope this is the second and last time "Strong Enough" appears on one of her live albums. I skip that track almost as quickly as "Closer to the Heart" on any Rush live album - it's on every last damn one of them, and it wore out its welcome on the studio release.

In short, _Live at Budokan_ is her best live album of the two released, and has her best performances bar none of the Lilith Fair stuff, the DVD, or other collaborations I have heard. While it doesn't capture all of her strongest songs in one album, no one CD could, and it comes closer than any album produced yet to summarizing her appeal as a live performer. It would also be an excellent buy for someone who wants a best-of compilation, until her label releases one.

5 out of 5 stars Crank It Up!!!.......2003-08-01

Sheryl's live CD rocks! I saw her on her last tour and was blown away. From the opening with "Steve McQueen" to the surprise tribute to the late, great John Entwhistle with "I Can't Explain" to the rockin' "There's Goes the Neighborhood", it's one non-stop rock blow out. Plus the sound quality is incredible. Buy this one and crank it up!!!!

Singer-songwriter Bryan Adams has been turning out hits for more than 20 years now, despite being dismissed as a lightweight with little more than a cocky attitude and an ear for a hook. But there were no nay-sayers at Tokyo's Budokan auditorium when Adams appeared there in June 2000; indeed, the young Japanese audience knows every word of every tune, screams out the names of his musicians, and seems generally enraptured by anything he does. There are no frills here--not only is the band stripped-down (Adams plays bass, with Mickey Curry on drums and Keith Scott on guitar), but there's no stage show to speak of and precious little patter. Still, Adams and his white-clad mates clearly deliver what the people want: i.e., one catchy tune after another. A whole lot of 'em, too: the DVD contains 22 songs, plus four bonus tracks, and the accompanying CD has 15. --Sam Graham

    5 out of 5 stars BRYAN's...best live DVD...and...1 live CD! .......2005-06-07

BRYAN...sells more CDs in...JAPAN than any where else in the WORLD , per capita.

    In JAPAN...he is as big as...OZZY...DEEP PURPLE...and...AEROSMITH.

This show was filmed and recorded by...the JAPANESE NATIONAL T.V [NHK]
for the whole country to see [100,000 million people]

The JAPANESE...know something about the recording of sound and pictures...After all , SONY and PHILIPS[Dutch] invented the CD and they have allot of other great stuff like great cars , videos games , stereos , DVD players , music re-masters and Anime...ect.

So the sound and production on this live DVD are second to none.

BRYAN....has never sounded better vocally...and...KEITH...has never been better on guitar all in D.D. 5.1 surround sound!

Because there are only 3 band numbers [it is like the...BRYAN...and...KEITH...show , T.V. split screens and all] the electic guitar makes up for the lack of the any key boards.

    We also don't have...TINA TURNER...for the song...IT'S ONLY LOVE...but...KEITH...does her part on guitar...You don't miss...TINA...either!

BRYAN...uses photo lights [he is also a photographer] to light the stage and has an amazing special effect during the song...INTO THE FIRE...Then he has car tracks on a screen during the song...GETAWAY...He also added is the song...REMEMBER...from his first CD although he did write songs at 18 years old for the Canadian band...PRISM...for their CD called...ARMAGEDDON...His first band was...SWEENY TODD [ROXY ROLLER] and has a remastered greatest hits CD from that band!

This live DVD has...26 SONGS...6 more than the live DVD...SLANE CASTLE...and the song...INTO THE FIRE...is in the main set NOT in the BONUS songs area , as it is on the live DVD...SLANE CASTLE.

This * 1 live DVD + 1 live CD * [Is like...Bryan...live to go] is a must have if you like his more ROCKING stuff and love...BRYAN's...whole career.

    ENJOY!

    * If you don't want the CD as well and would just like to get the live DVD , this live DVD does come in a single DVD edition...for about 10$ *

The BEST choice to go with his new 2 CDs best of...ANTHOLOGY!

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD Rock Concert.......2005-01-30

If you have a good 5.1 channel DVD setup, take the CD and throw it away, you will never use it. Best rock concert I've ever been to, without acually going to the concert. So far the only surround sound concert I know about on DVD, it's like your in the audience. Of course the music rocks, but there is something more going on here, hopefully there will be more surround sound concerts from other artists, if you have the sound equipment, it's a great ride.

    5 out of 5 stars Fabulous CD.......2003-10-17

I didn't expect to enjoy this CD, but I did. I didn't expect to like just the threesome of Bryan, Keith and Mickey, but I did. I didn't expect to like Bryan on the bass, but I did. I didn't think anything could match the greatness of the "Unplugged" record, but the more electrified sound of this recording is fun, too. Fabulous CD.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as it should have been.......2003-08-05

I love the 'Live Live Live' album - where Byan and the gang was in top form. I mainly bought this album because I wanted to hear the new songs in their live versions - and the album coming with a DVD was an incentive as well. My first disappointment was, that 'How do ya feel tonight' was cut off after about 1 minute. Bryan's voice in the beginning sounds weird, until he finally kicks in during Summer of '69. 'Have you ever really loved a woman ?' is even worse than the studio version - but the biggest 'crime' is 'When you're gone'. The Japanese girl singing with Bryan should not even be allowed on a Karaoke stage - plus she does not know the lyrics... this might have been funny during the concert, but on a CD where you spend good money on, they should have used a professional singer. The rest of the concert is ok, but the band never really looses up. The best moments are 'Getaway' and 'Run to you'. Also, they could have put more songs from the DVD on the CD - there is plenty of space on the disc. The DVD is nice, but if you are after Bryan 'live', buy 'Live Live Live' instead, where he really rocks the night away.

5 out of 5 stars In Top Form.......2003-06-21

I didn't know what to expect from this collection. I,ve always been a Bryan Adams fan and a live album collector. Live Live Live was great, Unplugged was weak. This one is unbelievable. Although Live Live Live was somewhat more rocking, this one shows Bryan and his two bandmates in top form in a more polished effort. Bryan has tended to mellow in his later years as have his peers but even the later ballads are brought back to life here. Musicianship is top notch and the sound quality is impeccable. I only wish the cd would have more closely mirrored the dvd. Clocking in at about 62 minutes, there certainly was room. I would reccomend this one be played loud!

2 out of 5 stars Sonic Blunder of the Greg Lake/ASIA.......2006-11-29

Way back in 1984, MTV aired a Special Concert called "ASIA in ASIA". Like lot's of other Concerts {shown Commercial Free & Un-Edited} I taped this on a BETA tape and via a Digital Pulse Mod transfered the Audio to Standard Cassette tape for my Private Listening.

To see the release of " Live at Budokan " on CD a few decades later with little Product Information made me wonder if it was to be the very same Concert I had Recorded or one of many other shows that ASIA had performed in Tokyo since then. Well, it IS the " ASIA in ASIA " show of 84 but there are a few Promblems of note: First: The Sound Quality is POOR, this is No Way taken from the Original Multi-Tracks, the Original Show as Broadcast has way Better Sound and after a Digital Upgrade {as I did 22 years ago with my PCM} the sound is almost as good as any medium grade CD out there. With the Transfer Equipment available today it is a fact that the Sound { if taken from the Original Masters } would be be STELLAR... You will not find THAT sound here I am sorry to say.

Second: As this is a Single CD you do not have the Entire Concert presented here, this SHOULD have been a DOUBLE DISC SET so you could hear it as originally Presented. And with a Proper Remix from the Mult-Track Source and Good Liner Notes to Explain that this was not just another Concert, This Tour with Greg Lake replacing John Wetton on Lead Vocals & Bass Guitar was Unique, But it NEEDS to be Released as such..

I still have my BETA and a few Cassetes of the Original "ASIA in ASIA" show and i will continue to enjoy them...Not this CRAPPY RE-ISSUE that is out for the bucks!!! and DOES NOT give you the Show as it SHOULD be heard.. BOO, ON THIS ONE....TWO STARS...

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection.......2006-09-28

I missed the original Asia in Asia performance on MTV. It was a school night. I did see a video years later. Now I have the cd! This is an excellent mix (unlike Quadra), and an excellent addition to my Asia collection. It was well worth the price.

The mind-bending success of the reality TV series The Osbournes has made Ozzy Osbourne more famous for his shaky hands and swearing tantrums than infernal heavy-metal racket. Time for a quick fix, then. Recorded at the Tokyo arena first made famous by Cheap Trick's 1979 disc Live at Budokan, Live at the Budokan (note subtle difference) is a rudimentary primer on Osbourne's musical activities over the last 30-odd years. There are serviceable renditions of monster solo hits like "No More Tears" and "Bark at the Moon," an encore of Black Sabbath's warhorse "Paranoid," and an impressive amount of cursing between songs. Astoundingly, Osbourne sounds no worse for wear than he did on 1993's similarly primordial--if slightly more generous--Live & Loud. --Aidin Vaziri

4 out of 5 stars OZZY LIVE IN THE 21st CENTURY ! (this official release delivers the goods).......2007-07-25

Ozzy Osbourne's Live At Budokan (2002) is a superb album. The band is fantastic, the overall sound is excellant, and Ozzy sounds as good as he always has, or as good as can be expected. All of his classic songs are here, including Paranoid from his days with Black Sabbath. The Japanese fans are very enthusiastic, and Ozzy urges them on with "I can't hear you!" and "Louder!". He's obviously having a great time. Some listeners might object to the banter, but it's really not that much of a distraction. Long time Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde and the band couldn't be any better, and the song selection is on the mark. Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Bark At The Moon, No More Tears, and Mama I'm Coming Home all sound inspired, professional, and heavy metal loud, just as the other songs do. If you like Ozzy, you'll like his 21st century live album, Live At Budokan. ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the best bands Ozzy has ever put together since the origional Black Sabbath period! With Zakk on lead guitar and Rob playing bass it gave this album and Ozzy what it needed a swift kick in the a$$ Don't choke buy it. And if your really smart buy the dvd you won't be sorry.

    1 out of 5 stars Live Ozzy.......2005-08-04

This album is bloody awful. The worst live album ever recorded. Ozzy's foul mouth and an audience that is louder than the songs. The songs are played awful and the mix is worse. Ozzy should just hang it up. It is a shame that someone who put out a string of brilliant albums with Black Sabbath and his first two solo albums (also brilliant), doesn't know when to quit. It is also sad that such superb 90's releases by Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Peter Frampton and others are given no promotion whatsoever. This thug (idiot) just keeps getting support and airplay of new music. The music industry executives are complete idiots making way too much money.

Within months of the U.S. release of Budokan, originally intended only for the Japanese fans who'd made them superstars half a world away, tongue-in-cheek rockers Cheap Trick went from opening American arena shows to headlining them. Rather than remaining eternal could-haves, metallic pop nuggets such as "I Want You to Want Me" and "Surrender" instead became radio mainstays in these versions.
