My Eureka Moment Finally Occurred While Sifting Through CDs In The 'Used' Section.......2007-07-28
This would turn out to be the sixth April Wine album and or CD which I was able to add to my collection. I felt like I really found something great because there was over 70 minutes of music found on this CD including a total of 19 songs. Some of these songs were songs I had never heard before (and I've been buying their albums/CDs since 1981). It is embarrassing to admit that I was not aware that they had been recording and releasing material since the early 70s. I started out a fan around the time of "The Nature of the Beast" (a flawless studio album released by April Wine in early '81). My high school graduation was that same year also and so a great album from that time, not too surprisingly, really has a special feeling and meaning associated with it. In addition to buying the "Nature Of the Beast", I also bought many others but I did not see anything in the album sections of theirs released before 1977. So I mostly knew of songs like "Roller" (circa 1977) up through "This could be the right one"(circa 1984). I realize now, however, that it is very hard to collect each and every release on vinyl and virtually impossible on CD but this compilation has all of the key album tracks and hits included on it with the exception of "I Like To Rock". But this song can be gotten easily by finding the "Harder, Faster" Album/CD from '79. If you know and like anything about April Wine you will more than likely love owning this CD. it is a multifacited look though time at all April Wine's magnificent contributions to the rock music world during the 70s and early 80s. There are plenty of rare songs to be found here also. So with all of that said.. Find it and buy it while you still can!
the best cd i have.......2006-10-07
i have over 800 cd's and 400 albums and this cd is one of the best.it has song after song that i like.i just can't play it enough of "TELL ME WHY-YOU WON'T DANCE WITH ME-LOVE HAS REMEMBERED ME"
Band is in crisis but has contractual obligations, I guess.........2005-01-12
Not much good I can say about this one. It only has one song I would put on a hit compilation - "Rock Myself To Sleep" - and only if it were a double CD compilation and had enough room for everything else. Simply don't buy it unless you are a hardcore fan and want to have everything by AW.
Almost All the Best from One of Canada's Greatest Bands.......2002-08-14
I first saw April Wine live at the Montreal Forum about twenty years ago. I just saw them again last Saturday night (08/10/02) at the Franklin County Fair in Upstate New York. I was expecting to see a bunch of old men going through the motions, but, while the bass player and drummer have added quite a few pounds, April Wine put on a great show, playing about half of the songs on this compilation.
April Wine has many compilations out there, and, except for their boxed set, none has all of their essential tracks. This one comes close, but I'm only giving it four stars instead of five because of the absence of "Bad Side of the Moon," "Oowatanite," "I Like to Rock," and "All Over Town." Those four tracks should have taken the place of the less essential tracks on this compilation: "Love Has Remembered Me"; "Tell Me Why"; "What If We Fall in Love"; and "You Won't Dance With Me."
But, all in all, a great compact disc with great music.
Excellent Hits CD.......2001-03-21
Pay no attention to the bad reviews of this CD. This is an excellent overview of April Wine's music. As a matter of fact, this Hits collection turned me into an April Wine fan. Now that I know more about them, I realize there are two sides to April Wine - the power ballad/mellow side and the rocking side. Both sides of this band are tremendous and so much better than any new band could hope to be. This CD is exactly what it is titled - The Hits. This is also a Canadian import. Unlike Greatest Hits packages put together in the USA, they know how to truly put all of the "hits" on a CD. But, as all April Wine fans know, there is also a harder edge to April Wine than what is found on this CD and most of the their hits. Do yourself a favor, purchase this CD as well as another import of April Wine music entitled "All The Rockers." These two CDs (a total of 36 tracks in all) combined, are representative of April Wine's best and will be a welcome addition to any rock & roll collection. Let's face it, we have to go back into the past for good rock & roll. Discover April Wine all over again! Or, for the first time. I also purchased both CDs: The Hits & All The Rockers for a friend of mine and he was thrilled.
