melody doesn't make this less heavy........2007-08-02
The third effort by Static-X is a nice step back to form after what I consider a sophomore slump: Machine. However, there are some noticeable changes in the band. This is a more industrial-sounding album with a greater focus on melody. I still consider WI Death Trip to be their best cd, but even that had moments that were rough. This is not a sell-out. How do you define sell-out? Static-X is making the music they want to make. They are still as heavy as ever, but by adding more melody to their songs and more clean singing, they are immediately sell-outs? I would have become very bored with this band if they kept making WI Death Trip over and over. Wayne has a great singing voice for this type of music, so why not change things up a bit? This is a very fun record, as are Start A War and Cannibal. "Evil Disco" is still going strong. Having some songs that you can sing along to and not blow out your vocal cords is nice too.
This is a very strong cd, with no filler. Check it out.
ATTENTION WALMART CUSOMERS.......2007-02-22
why did you give this Cd a two overall? are you jelious because rappers have no talent, can't play an instrument. How can you not like Static x, If you like bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Disturbed, System of a down, Godsmack, Iron maiden, Anthrax, Stone sour, Slip knot, Korn, and rob zombie, you have to like Static x. They are easily a five and are in my top five all time favorites. Stop believing the people a walmart!! In order to understand and enjoy the thrash of Static x, you must sit down, give the songs a try, and acually listen to most of the song, not just the begining, like most of you do. You can't judge a song, just by what the begining sounds like. It might suck at first, but listen to what it has to show for.
The best songs on this CD are The Only, Dead World, Monster, and destroy all.

This record is not their heaviest or brightest but it's Funk as hell!
The energy on this album is Crunked up!
I like his singing voice it ain't bad.
It in my opinion sounds better than Korn's voice.
It's a fun listen.
YAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!.......2006-08-17
This new release from Korn,no I mean Limp Noodle-wait sorry Staind? Oh yeah Static something or another. Attention all ADD kids! Rush right out and waste 15 bucks on this unoriginal formulaic BOLOGNA!!!! POO POO! hey isnt nu-metal dead yet? Get Children of Bodom or Chimaera or Megadeth or Opeth or even Machine Head and use this disc for a frisbee. Im still pissed I actually bought it.
My favorite Static-X album. 5 stars all the way!!!.......2006-07-04
I absolutely love every track on this album. Theres more a more Industrial and dark sound to this album than the previous Machine album. Shadow Zone also contains many memories of good times for me.
Shadow Zone isnt exactly as heavy as Machine, but it makes up for it in the lyrics and overall sound of the album. If you liked the last two Static-X albums then you'll be sure to love this one. Some favorite tracks of mine are Otsegolectric, Dead World, The Only, Shadow Zone, and Destroy All.

Not their best.......2005-08-13
This is a new sound out of Static X and if you listen to the cd without making up your mind after the first song you will like it is is different. If you get used to where they are going with the music then it will be a good cd. If you are new to Static X and are not sure where to start listening to it I would start with Wisconsin Death Trip then Machine then Shadow Zone it will progress as you go.
Freaking Cool.......2005-05-31
This CD Is A Very Loud And Fast But It Also Haves It's Slow Not So Loud Moments.
Destroy All 8/10 A Very Loud Fast Short Song That Has A Lot Of Energy In It Great For Mosh Pits
Control It 8/10 Another Great Song But It Feels Empty In Some Spots
New Pain 7/10 Songs A Good Song A Little Catchy And That Could Be Annoying Ocasionaly
Shadow Zone 10/10 My Favorite Song On The CD No Complants
Dead World 8/10 Another Strong Powerful Song
Monster 9/10 Short And Sweet
The Only 7/10 Good Song But Got Bored Of It While Playing Need For Speed Underground. I Bought The CD For This Song. I'm Going To Go Listen To It Real Fast Hold On. I Would Like To Give It A 8 Instead Of A 7 Now
Kill Your Idols 8/10 He He Kill Your Idols That's Funny
All In Wait 7/10 Good Song
Otsegolectric 9/10 The Otsego Of Shadow Zone Very Pleasant
So 6/10 My Least Favorite Song On The CD I Usally Skip This One But It Is Worth Listening To
Transmission 6/10 I Usally Don't Like Music Only Tracks But This One Is Allllllright
Invincible 10/10 Another Great Static-X Song Very Mellow Great Ending For A Great CD
Bonus DVD 10/10 Love The Live Songs Very Good
Over All Shadow Zone Is A Great CD. The Front Cover Is Cool Looking. The Music On The Disc Is Great. The Band Rocks. Overall I Say This CD Is Better Than Machine And On The Same Level As Wisconsin Death Trip Both Killer Cds
...KOOL!.......2004-12-07
This is by-far the best of Static-X's albums. I am a heavy metal fan, but the best is static-x. They have changed over the years getting better and better each album! First with WDT, it was awesome, it had only one downfall... There lead guitarplayer sucked, i mean wayne did half of it anyway let alone singin, that guys riffs sounded the same very often, but still that album rocks! Now im on Machine. They now have Tripp Eisen... There the ultimate now, with there guitar riffs and waynes awesome howl, and kens drumming! they just rule, theres nothing else to it! Now im on Shadowzone. Now that Ken left...WE HAVE NICK! The drumming was awesome b4 and its awesomer now! i dont know how they can get any better! Then i noticed another thing, the guitars were much heavyer and much better than b4 making this album the best in the world. Then the BIGGEST thing i noticed was that wayne balances his awesome howl and his unique tone of voice out! Making them sound like they should win some kind of award for the best artist ever! If your friends try to tell you that anyone can scream into a mic then tell him its not a scream its an awesome heavy howl and amazing origional vocals that doesntcompare to you So STFU b4 i drop kik u in ur fat little head.
Quite the variety.......2004-10-31
This cd is incredible. Every song is unique, none are the same. It's really great to not hear the same thing over and over again.
Destroy All - 10/10 - Oh my god! this song just grabs you by the nuts and blows you away with incredibly heavy music. in a word, awesome.
Control It - 9/10 - A more fast song than the first but with less screaming.
New Pain - 10/10 - A slower song but with incredible vocals and guitar this song should go to heavy metal hall of fame.
Shadow Zone - 9/10 - The chorus is a little strange but the verses are really fast and heavy all at once.
Dead World - 7/10 - all the vocals in this song have a strong dose of waynes unique vocals. too much for my liking.
Monster - 10/10 - the vocals are so incredibly fast its hard to keep up with them. it sounds like he's saying ribbit in some parts tho.
The Only - 10/10 - This song was the first song I ever heard from static-x. I heard it on NFS: underground. It's really sweet. a slower song but very harmonic vocals from wayne.
Kill Your Idols - 10/10 - at first listen I didn't like this song but then I decided to listen again for it's heavy chorus and then I loved it. this song may seem kinda bad but give it a chance.
All In Wait - 10/10 - The songs flow of slow-verse to heavy-chorus works incredibly well. the long drawn out vocals in the verses are really captivating.
Ostegolectric - 10/10 - and so continues the tradition. as per every static-x cd there is a song called otstego_something. this song has a really good heavy chorus. and yeah thats about it.
So - 10/10 - the must have slow song on the album. very oriented verse and chorus lyrics. an awesome song.
Transmission - 10/10 - the all-music song on the album. most all-music songs are kinda slow and boring but this one is heavy! I was so excited over the ideah of a heavy all-music and this one blows me away.
Invincible - 10/10 - at first it's a slow song then about half way through it changes to a heavy song. really cool
DVD - 10/10 - the interviews with the band are really great but wayne should try to share the spotlight a bit more. The live performances are really awesome. especially "push it" and "destroy all".
Quite a disapointment.......2004-07-23
I started listening to Static-X when I bought their 2nd cd, Machine a few years back. I was amazed and very happy with my purchase... so happy I also purchased their first cd Wisconsin Death Trip. These two cds really enhanced my cd collection, and I couldn't wait for Shadow Zone. Yet, I got wind that Ken Jay, Static-X's drmmer, left the band! This really hurt my expectations... because his beats were the backbone of Machine. Anyway, the day comes and Shadow Zone is released, and to no surprise, it did not mesure up to their other two cds. I suggest, if you're just getting into Static-X, purchase WDT or Machine first, than maybe get Shadow Zone. If you're a long time listener (I'm sure you already have it but...) its still Static-X. Its still better than most $hit out there.

Horrible.......2007-01-08
I bought this a long time ago. At the time, I thought this was a strong candidate for the worst album of all time. This album truly has no redeeming qualities. The music is drab and lifeless. I had difficulty giving this away.
Standing In Line..........2006-12-23
The dirty rotten imbeciles better known as D.R.I. had a couple of claims to fame in the 80s. At one time, they were the fastest band in the world, pioneering the use of blastbeats. They were also considered Crossover scene leaders, helping break down a few of the barriers between the once mutually exclusive worlds of Metal and Hardcore. Positioned as they were, receiving critical acclaim from both scenes, `Thrash Zone' could have seen D.R.I. firmly cement their position as underground music legends. Instead, it saw the band fall by the wayside as little more than an interesting side note in the history of extreme music.
First track "Thrashard" starts promisingly enough, but basically just plods at pedestrian pace. And really, it sets the mood for the entire album. Guitarist Spike Cassidy doesn't seem to have any different tunings or effects for his guitar, and there are very few solos to speak of. In cricketing terms, drummer Felix Griffin plays either medium-fast or slow left arm, and there ain't nothing fancy about either. Kurt Brecht's shout is a bit tuneless, but is fairly standard 1980s Hardcore style, and is reasonably easy listening.
There's a social conscience in D.R.I.'s song writing for sure, but it is expressed in very simplistic, almost childish terms. Passages like "Gun control/We need gun control" and "I give a hoot/But I still pollute" stick in your mind hours later, but it's because they are so god awfully clumsy and badly written. The sentiments are noble, but the execution is lacking.
The overall impression of `Thrash Zone' is an album short on good ideas and variety, and of a band which has reached the end of it's creative tether. All is not entirely lost. "Kill The Words" uses the slow paced crunch prevalent throughout the album to best effect. "Strategy" almost winds up to a reasonable speed, and has a catchy tune, and "Worker Bee" is a top gear workout, but it's not enough to lift the hit/miss ratio to an acceptable level.
These guys were a highly influential band in their day, but `Thrash Zone' is memorable for the wrong reasons, and the dead horse D.R.I. was flogging was starting to reek.
The best D.R.I. album!!.......2006-06-12
In my opinion the most complete album and better production than the other releases. An incredible hardcore- punk- thrash influenced. If you didn't know about D.R.I., try first "Crossover" and later "Thrash Zone".
An overlooked band in a genre run by mediocre bands.......2005-10-30
I was glad when D.R.I. came out with an album entitled "Thrash Zone" because face it, they were a Thrash band. I went to see these guys in August '04 and some little punk rock kid saw I had my Nuclear Assault "Survive" tour tee on and said ever so sarcastically, "Metal, YEAHHH!" All I said was, "Hey moron, what kind of band do you think you're seeing? That's right a metal band. Go wack it to your DK records." (The kid was probably thirteen.) Sure they got the punk rock inspired lyrics and the Hardcore hollering and occasional riffs, but they were definitely in the Thrash genre if you had to pidgeon hole them.
Thrash Zone is interesting for a number of reasons, the lighting fast speed element is almost completely gone except on few numbers like "Worker Bee", the slow parts are really slow, almost like Obituary during their dirge moments on "Slowly We Rot". The production is the best of any D.R.I. album, famed Metal Blade producer Bill Metoyer uses a little to much compression but this ends up giving Spike Cassidy a boost in his awesome riffs. Some of the best guitar riffs of any D.R.I. album here. I was a little bit disappointed in Felix Griffin's drumming because he is an awesome drummer and one of the best in the genre. His drumming here is just too simple, there aren't any of those awesome breaks or tom fills that were on Crossover or Four of a Kind. Still some cool triplets though. Kurt's atonal voice is a little more in the background but still keeps everything together.
This album would then go on to close the most successful period for D.R.I. The later two albums would lack focus and be cast on the dust bin of history. They would also go on to loose a huge driving force in 1990, their drummer Felix Griffin. Their bassist would also get stabbed on tour in Mexico after this album, a further setback for the band. Worth having along with everything that came before. If you like D.R.I. then you should also check out the first two Hirax albums and Nuclear Assault pre-1991. For more underrated Thrash check out Forced Entry, Anacrusis, Coroner, ans N.J.'s Whiplash. They don't sound like D.R.I. but they are all awesome bands.
Classic!.......2005-10-01
I think this is their best work. They were also incredible at the Stone Pony last summer! :)
