SPECTACULAR metal, came out the same day as Nirvana launched...hair metal died that afternoon........2007-06-15
SPECTACULAR hair metal album --- every tune would've been a top ten or #1 if just released a year or so earlier. Really a perfect example of where our heads were at right before the Grunge movement.
Bangalore Choir's "On Target" launched the SAME DAY as NIRVANA -- hair metal died by 4pm that afternoon.
The ULTIMATE hair metal band you've never heard but HAVE to hear. Every tune is a real hit.
Producer Max Norman molested the songs to a high polish and changed a few essential minor chords into major chords -- so made it too radio friendly a la Def Leopard in some places, killed the extreme heaviness of the brutal, fresh demo that got them signed in the first place -- but a few tracks peel paint with heavy grooves, sick guitar tone -- and the whole project is really hook laden, catchy and well crafted -- and on top of it all Dave Reece's huge, deep, 'Big Man' voice is what David Coverdale could only dream of.
Performances from all musicians are just as tight and tasty as you could hope to find in that genre.
Sad story. Dave Reece, the singer, had an ego meltdown over wardrobe issues and dropped the drummer and bassist about a three weeks before the album was released (the ridiculously talented bassist Danny Greenberg, and tasty drummer Derek Thomas played all the tracks on the album -- good friends from the Sunset Strip scene, Ian Mayo and Jackie Ramos, stepped in right before the release and appear on the album photos but had nothing at all to do with the music in any way).
Bangalore's premiere video for 'Loaded Gun' (the softest track and not the best song to introduce the band to the world) appeared in heavy rotation on MTV for about two weeks -- then they disapppeared forever.
Sad, because Bangalore Choir probably would've been a giant stadium draw if they'd not just missed the timing by that crucial year or so...
If you like technically flawless power hair metal --- make sure to add this to your collection and tell two friends -- and so on and so on and so on .....
And by the way -- go to You Tube and punch in "Bangalore Choir" -- check the live bootleg video of "All Or Nothing" from 1990 Sunset Strip gig when Danny and Derek were still on board -- They had it goin on!

Awesome CD! One of the best ever! The musicianship was the best California had to offer & the songwriting had plenty of good hooks & memorable choruses. They had it all but Grunge killed all its potential. John Bon Jovi & Ritchie Sambora wrote "Doin' The Dance" & "Angel In Black" was written by Steve Plunkett of Autograph (This song also appears on Autograph's - Missing Pieces CD), but this version is way better. Overall This cd rocks & the ballads are beyond good. If you like Bon Jovi, Giant, Valentine or 21 Guns then you will love this cd.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........2006-01-27
Ahh, this is the kind of music that is truly timeless. John Swana is playing at the peak of his abilities in a setting which perfectly augments him. There's nothing like a guitar quartet made up of high quality players, and everyone playing on this album is very, very, very, very, very, high quality. John Patitucci is great, as always, Jesse Van Ruller is fantastic, he should really have more recognition, and Eric Harland is also quite wonderful. John Swana himself is, as I said before, at the peak of his talent, and each lyrical solo after the next sounds like a classically composed masterpiece, establishing the perfect ratio of melody and technique. He truly is one of the best players in jazz today, and he is sorely underappreciated. Buy this album now.
Best Swana album yet!!.......2004-05-26
After listening to all of John Swana's great crisscross albums, i feel this one is his best yet(In the Moment being his next best). Swana changes his instrumentation on this album from the standard Piano, Bass, Drums with Sax and trumpet up front..instead he is the sole horn with Guitarist Jesse VanRuller taking the chordal role. Every member of this quartet plays beautifully on the whole session. John Swana's writing and melodies are the strongest yet and show great growth and maturity. This Album has a very modern feel and there is great interplay between the musicians. I look forward to seeing what Swana will do next.

A great album sabotaged by the band's past...........2006-07-02
On Target is an album that has been misunderstood and unfairly dismissed since its release almost 20 years ago. After 4 marginally successful (at best) albums of bluesy hard rock, Fastway took a drastic turn with this album. After losing their major label contract and everyone else in the band (including longtime vocalist Dave King), Eddie Clarke renovated Fastway with a new line-up and sound. In retrospect, this was probably a bad move. Lea Hart and company proved to be capable musicians, but most Fastway fans believed there was no replacing King. The major controversy here was the severe change in sound. On Target was a slick production full of harmonizers and keyboards. It had more to do with 80s pop metal or AOR than Fastway's bluesy past. Many thought it was great in that context and the album did earn the group some new fans, but the backlash from Fastway's fan base basically sealed the band's fate. Issuing the album under a different band name may have been a better choice, but Clarke probably didn't have it in him to start from scratch a third time (once with Motorhead, once with Fastway and then again with a new project). Recommended for fans of Def Leppard, Prophet, House of Lords, etc..

Album Description
Updated versions of all eight cuts from the British metal group's 1989 'On Target' album, each featuring Eddie Clark having redone his original guitar work, as he was unhappy with the original sound & got the rights to the album back in 1998. Lea Hart, who's first album with the band was 'On Target', has helped out Clark here on remaking five Fastway classics (added as bonus tracks): 'Say What You Will', 'Trick Or Treat', 'Station', 'Make My Day' & 'Easy Livin''. 13 tracks total. 1998 Receiver Records release.
Customer Reviews:
This was just a bad idea!.......2006-11-24
The original release of On Target was excellent but this is just a butchery of it. If I had heard this reworked version first I may have felt different (but not likely). I think the two things that kill this album are that the production is just aweful compared to the original and that the song order doesn't work. The new recordings of the "classic" Fastway stuff should have been added at the end as bonus tracks. I think Lea Hart is a great vocalist but just doesn't pull off the old stuff very well. Also, two songs were omitted from this release - "A Fine Line" and "Close Your Eyes". It seems that most everything was re-recorded with the exception of drums, vocals and some keyboards (nearly all keyboards are deleted). Some drum parts are changed, for example "Let Him Rock" just doesn't rock as hard now! Overall the mix is poor and it sounds like when it was mastered that the levels were too high since the signal distorts at times. I would say this CD is for completists only.
No King No Glory...........2005-08-19
Well I admit seeing that they re-recorded a few classic tracks sparked my interest until Harts terrible vocal delivery just about made me cry instantly when he shreaks out the opening line of Trick Or Treat. He can't sing this song nor can he sing any classic Fastway. This band is nothing without Dave King. He is/was the most important ingredient to a smoking hard rock band. Now for the production sound on this release. It sounds like it was recorded in the giant drainage tube. Eddie's guitar sounds are processed with some cheesy effects that in no way highlight his playing. Maybe the worst song of their entire career is included here called "Dead Or Alive". This song just proves how much Dave King was an integral member of this outfit. Please don't buy this and reward Eddie or give him any ideas about making another Hart/Fastway album. The least he can do is grab Henrik Ostergood from Dirty Looks to sing any other reworking of classic Fastway. That way it won't completely suck...
Wow! What a bad album!.......2001-04-28
Like the previous reviewer said, this is just not fastway. However, that's not the worst of it. This is simply a terrible collection of songs. This album sounds like it could have been the sound track to a cheesy 80s high school teen flick - tons of keyboards, almost drum machine-sounding drums with tons of bad echo effects and just plain bad vocals. The focals are thin and full of sing-song pop harmonies. I'm sorry Fast Eddie, but this album has absolutely no redeeming value...NONE! I just want to make sure I have made it clear that this album is horrible on it's own. It does not need to be compared to other Fastway albums to be considered this bad.
Fastway without David King?.......2000-07-01
Let's see here.. hmmm.. Fastway without David King, really? No disrespect to Eddie Clark but without the outragous range of David King,, the band is not the same. As a bad Fastway is sooo overlooked for true '80s metal band. Eclipse by the "Hollywood Metal Band Scene" (i.e. Motley Crue, Ratt, Cinderella, etc) the bands true "energy" was never really appriciated. What made Fastway a great band was not complex guitar riffs that Eddie thinks are so important, but just the way they played as a "group". Infact, none of Fastways music was really complex at all, just good 'ol rock-n-roll basics, what made it special was the energy of "the group". If you want the real Fastway exsperiance, stick with the first album to start, then Trick or Treat I imagin, or anything with David King as lead singer of Fastway. This album just isnt Fastway,,.

On Target is very under rated!.......2006-11-23
I just recently picked up this CD and I think it is awesome. Yes I am one of those people that thought Fastway could not exist without Dave King but this is a worthy release. It is a continuation of the mainstream sound heard on "Waiting for the Roar" that is chock full of keyboards and catchy choruses. Lea Hart is a great vocalist and brings something different to the table than Dave King. Listen to this one with an open mind and I think you will be pleased.

How can a man say that Fasyway was better without Dave King? And then to contradict yourself by saying TRICK OR TREAT was their best record.......Anyways, this record is more on par with like, say Journey or Foreigner or something. If you like your hard rock a little on the lighter side give this a try. If you like it harder and dirtier buy the Dave King records. The original version of Fastway was more like AC/DC mixed with Led Zeppelin at their heaviest......
Fastway - 'On Target' (Enigma).......2005-06-15
I'm not saying this is all THAT bad of a CD.I'm just saying that it SIMPLY isn't Fastway.Certainly not the Fastway that I saw as support act for the AC/DC-'Flick Of The Switch' tour. Now,that was incredible!'On Target' is merely Fastway in name ONLY.Guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke should've changed the band's name as soon as vocalist Dave King left. The best Fastway CD reissues to snatch up a copy of are their self-titled debut,'All Fired Up' and 'Trick Or Treat'.
Fastway's 2nd best effort! A fine 80's release!.......2005-03-01
Fastway with Dave King was very different than this. The sound on here is more 80's friendly in the melodic metal area.I thought Fastway got better without Dave King.Although the Trick or Treat soundtrack they did with him was their best thing ever. This is stilla good album though.
1.Dead or Alive(10/10)This is one of those catchy 80's songs that will get stuck in your head for a while.A great Song!
2.Change of Heart(7/10)Not a bad song.Good metal tune with keyboard use.
3.A Fine Line(8/10)This is a ballad song that's very catchy. If you like the 80's melodic metal sound you'll love this.
4.Two Hearts(7/10)Song starts out slow, but picks up throughout listening to.
5.You(7/10)Another solid track keeping in tone with the others.
6.Let Him Rock(7/10)On par still with the others.
7.She is Danger(10/10)Great track, the album really picks up on this one.A great metal song.Guitar and keyborads sound great.
8.Show some Emotion(7/10)Another ballad attempt.Not bad,Still better than today's music.
9.These Dreams(9/10)A good solid rockin song!
10.Close your eyes(9/10)This one really grows on you.A great ballad.Done very tastefully.A real grabber this song is.
Fastway is a good band, and this is a good album by them. It's better than The Bad Bad Girls album, but the Trick or Treat soundtrack is their best body of work. Buy that with this one and you'll have all you need. And if you like those then buy every fasway album because in the end each one is good and appealing in it's own way. It's good 80's metal so buy it!

Barry Louis Polisar, little kids' answer to Adam Sandler, clearly was on the receiving end of some flak around the time he recorded 1978's Naughty Songs for Boys & Girls. "I've had to listen to my share of adults who are concerned that I might be giving children bad ideas," he writes in the CD liner notes, but "if my songs were acceptable to absolutely everyone, I wouldn't feel as if I was doing anything worth noting." That said, and rebel spirit intact, Polisar pelts his listeners with a perfectly polished batch of wacky, imagination-stretching, roundly hilarious songs suitable to any parent/child team willing to poke fun at itself. Included are the perfectly reasonable "Don't Put Your Finger up Your Nose" (which carries the equally logical lyric, "Don't stick your finger in your ear / 'Cause then your ear will find it hard to hear"), "Never Cook Your Sister in a Frying Pan," and "You Can't Say Psbpsbpsb on the Radio"--"psbpsbpsb" being the equivalent of a raspberry. There's also a smidgen--thankfully not an overdose--of sweet fare on this disc, in the form of "With a Giggle and a Hug and a Tickle and a Kiss" and "You're as Sweet as Sugar on a Stick." There's only one track on Naughty Songs conceivably capable of inciting young listeners to rebellion, and that's the exceptional last tune, the anthem "Marching Shoulder to Shoulder," featuring the fictitious Front for Kids' Liberation, led by Polisar. "One, two, three, four / Lower the doorknobs on the doors! / Five, six, seven, eight / Don't eat the dinner on your plate!" demand the Front's members. After spinning this disc in its entirety, one gets the sense that there's probably no better advocate for those under three feet. By refusing to make nice on his records and instead zooming in on the not so warm-and-fuzzy aspects of kids' lives, he gives them oft-overlooked props. That he's so funny is the kicker that ought to convince more folks to give him a listen. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
I too grew up with this album.......2007-07-05
Someone, my mom I think, bought me this album, in record form, when I was a kid. I played that thing for years and LOVED it. I can still remember most of the songs, and sing some of them to my 3 year old. She loves "don't stick your finger in your nose." I'll be picking up a cd for her soon, perhaps for her birthday. Personally I find nothing offensive in his music. Only humor.
Naughty Songs is a classic.......2006-11-21
As a teenager in the early 80's I bought the LP version of this for my sister's tenth birthday. I hadn't yet heard it, but comparing it to the other kiddy records and knowing my sister would probably play it continuously for the next few months made me think I could probably stand hearing songs like "My Mother Ran Away Today" over and over rather than the Strawberry Shortcake Rap or whatever insipid swill was passing as wholesome family entertainment. Not only did I stand it, but I actually liked this record. It was subversive and musical enough to satisfy me and silly enough to make my sister happy. Probably the only song we ever sang together was "Never Cook Your Sister in a Frying Pan." Twenty years later I have children of my own. To this day I admonish my kids singing "Don't Put Your Finger Up Your Nose," though I had forgotten most of the words and none of my family had heard the original until we came across the cassette of this at the local library last week. Everyone enjoyed listening to the album, laughing and singing along with nearly every tune (I admit I even like the sweet songs). Thus I feel compelled to say something favorable on behalf of Polisar's collection of good humored folksy songs. It's too bad the negative reviews here resort to insult and hyperbole. That probably says more about the commentators than the record itself. Fortunately this isn't another Loony Tunes, Strawberry Shortcake, Pokemon or Disney record. It is lovingly hand-crafted idiosyncratic fun in the vein of Shel Siverstein or Roald Dahl. I guess it isn't for everyone. Grandma always said I had a puny sense of humor which may explain the appeal. I don't know much about human emotions or connections to children but this record made enough of a positive impression on my family that I decided to make my first comment on Amazon in praise of Polisar's classic.
A throwback to when we weren't so darn sensitive!.......2006-03-10
This guy played my pre-school to a packed house and I remember it vividly. We had the albums and played them in our neighbors basement incessantly. I directly blame (or credit) Barry for my sense of humor even now as I purchase this album for my son. Barry teaches that everything doesn't have to be so darn serious and we really don't have to tip toe around everybody afraid that we might ruffle a few feathers. The world is an absurd place and Barry gets kids ready to laugh it all off when things get out of control!
It's Terrific! Bravo for Naughty Songs........2005-09-19
I have four children and we listen to this CD in the car all the time. Our favorite songs are: Thump, Thump, Thump; You can't say pthhht on the radio; Don't Cook Your Sister in A Frying Pan and The Poetry Lesson. It is a fun compilation of catchy tunes, with clever lyrics. It would also make a great gift.
I grew up with this!.......2004-11-20
When I was about, oh, nine years old, my Mom got me this album. I lived in Maryland then, only actually 15 minutes away from Barry's house. He performed once at the local mall, and I got to meet him.
I love this album still, and I am 34. I gave my sister the album when she had her first child, so I am going to buy the CD. Barry Louis Polisar will live on in this house!

Customer Reviews:
"La más sureña" never ceases to evolve.......1999-11-01
Great, modern album by the Sonora! "Fea", No Vale la Pena" and "Percusión" are definitely an example of where "La Ponceña" are headed in the next years. Pure Salsa sophistication. Since the 1970's this group has never ceased to amaze me. However, it's not a set of non-stop fascinating tracks like their previous albums had.

Album Description
It starts off in the bedroom and ends up on the road to Macon. In-between is a moving new collection of Susan's Room songs (plus Joe Jackson's "Be My Number Two") marked by musical and lyrical contrast. The lyrics sway from road fever to agoraphobia, from pre-wedding hope to marital discord. The music moves from beat driven jazzy folk-rock to quiet acoustic ballads and back. What ties it all together is singer-songwriter Susan Streitwieser's stand-out singing (the New Yorker: "a soulful, commanding voice"), her sharp songwriting, and inventive playing and production: "A great band" says JPFolks.com. "Susan gets my vote for lyricist of the year!"
