Album Description

Khymera features Kansas vocalist Steve Walsh & Daniele Liverani (the Italian musician responsible for the creation of the rock opera, 'Genius'). The songs on this stunning melodic rock album were written by Jim Peterik (Survivor), Kip Winger, Mark Spiro (House Of Lords), Neal Schon (Journey), Russ Ballard (Rainbow), & Giorgio Moroder. Frontiers Records. 2003.

Steve Walsh has still GOT IT! Great CD.......2004-04-02

If you ever loved Kansas in their heyday, you have to own this album! Steve sounds great after all these years. Having recently seen Kansas in concert (at their ages of 50-something, they still ROCK), I felt like Steve's voice was a little lost in the production. With Khymera, its all Steve all the time. OK, that said (I happen to be a lover of vocals and lyrics), I have to say that the musicianship and songwriting is outstanding as well. This is quite literally a work of art and a MUST OWN for any fan of prog rock!! ENJOY it like I am!!! And God bless Steve Walsh!!!

Kymera - A new promise.......2006-03-24

I have not heard this album yet, It contains a song " Looking for You", which was written by Don Barnes of 38 Special. Don wrote this song for a record company that got absorbed by another giant. This song was to be released as a solo album project for Don around 89 or 90. I have always been disapointed that Don Barnes was not recognized for his great work on that album. Many great tunes were passed over and sit in some archive because the record company wants to hold his work for ransom. I guess a little of his brilliance will shine through with these artists. If they do half as well on their version of this song, they should have several hits off of this album. Strickly MY opinion.

2005 AOR CD.......2005-12-16

Khymera is fronted by Ex Pink Cream 69 vocalist Dennis Ward. The CD has a modern feel to it and Dennis sings his heart out on this project. I am glad to see more people putting all they have into their music. As for the rest of the band, they are awesome as well. They must of fed off the energy of Dennis or maybe it was vice versa but this is one top release. Standouts are: Looking For You, All That I Have, The Damage Is Done (cover of Unruly Child song)& Tomorrow Never Comes. If you are tired of the same old same old contemporary music on the radio, then pick this up to see what true talent is all about.

I dunno..........2005-12-16

I will agree that Steve Walsh's voice seems remarkably smooth here. Not near Schemer-Dreamer...much more Walsh to the core. However the melodies are very stong and harken back to the '80s prog/metal flavor. Some of the stuff seems a little weak in terms of subject matter and content...BUT...I'll admit that this CD creates a strong impulse to turn the volume up as far as you can stand it. ( ;

Tears On the Pages..too smarmy. yuk. It's just kinda trite.
Without Warning 'could' be a Kansas tune.
Who's Gonna Love You Tonight is good. Reminds me of Audio Visions.

All in all...you should have it in your collection, especially if'n yer a wheathead.

Walsh & Liverani come up big!.......2003-05-11

Khymera is comprised of multi-instrumentalist Daniele Liverani, and Kansas frontman Steve Walsh. Utilizing unreleased songs by legendary melodic rock writers like Jim Peterik, David Foster and Neil Schon, Liverani and Walsh construct a very strong album. There is a good mix of hard rock tracks and ballads. The harder tracks, such as "Without Warning" and "Written In The Wind" have bombastic production and choruses that will hook you fast. Throughout the record, Steve Walsh puts forth his best studio performance in almost 15 years. No where is this more evident than on the gorgeous ballad, "Bless A Brand New Angel" on which Walsh hits unbelievably high notes with smoothness and ease. Another highlight is the mid-tempo gem, "Who's Gonna Love You Tonight," which was written by David Foster. Throughout the album Liverani creates a rich soundscape of swirling guitars and keyboards which provides the perfect backdrop for Walsh's stellar delivery. In the midst of these great tracks are a couple of weak ones such as "Shadows" and "Love Leads The Way". Both are certainly decent, but not up to the quality of the rest of the album. On the whole, this is a first-class melodic rock album that is sure to please fans of this genre. Liverani should be praised for his instrumental virtuosity and meticulous production but there is an even greater starin this project, and that is Steve Walsh. He shows a clarity and range on this album he hasn't put forth since the late 1980s. Five years ago people were ready to close his casket, but since then he has risen from the ashes and regained his title as one of the best singers around. Highly recommended.
