Fun Family Music.......2007-04-11
This is a fun musical experience for kids of all ages. My son (age 9) has memorized almost all of the songs and loves the humor in the music. we have given this CD as a gift numerous times and every one seems to love it.
Truly a Family Party.......2007-01-19
Good CD to listen to with the kids. Great change of pace for when the kids start to wear out one of their other favorite CDs. A few of the songs are geared more for the adults than the kids but a good mix of songs for everyone.
New Mom...New Trout Fan.......2005-09-08
OK,I admit it...I ordered this CD because of one song, My Hair Had A Party Last Night (The phrase has become a regular morning greeting in our house.) The great surprise about this CD...every song is a winner. No telling kids what to do or think, just great songs about cool stuff that sounds like fun! We love it!
Buy it!!!.......2004-05-30
Love, love, love!!! I have given this CD numerous times as a gift. Just a great collection of songs! I DARE you to NOT try to count along with 18 Wheels on a Big Rig!
For "adult" Trout, check out "Reel Life"...I listen to it all the time, even after owning it for about 7 years now. Enjoy!
kids music for adults.......2004-05-10
For everyone who has ever said "not AGAIN" when loading traditional "kids" music in the car, this is the album for your family. We got ours on cassette and wore it out; we're still not tired of it. Who can resist a group that counts to 18 in roman numerals and gets it right? The songs are singable, danceable, and great fun. It's got just the right mix of fast and slow, silly and serious, and none of the annoying frenetic goofiness often heard in kids albums.

The Last Broadcast sees Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin and multi-instrumentalist brothers Andy and Jez Williams soaring to new if perhaps grandiose heights. The thundering opening beat and spiraling guitars of "Words" are reminiscent of Ride at their bombastic peak, and "There Goes the Fear" has relentlessly reverberating Latin rhythms, New Order-influenced guitars, and sweeping vocals that are nothing less than breathtaking. Quiet reprieve comes with "M62," a delicate haunting reworking of King Crimson's "Moonchild," bizarrely recorded under the M62 flyover in Manchester, and its desolate atmospherics are juxtaposed against the remainder of the album. With the thrusting onslaught of "Pounding," the obligatory earthy rock of "N.Y.," and the joyous pastoral acoustic-led splendor of "Caught by the River," the Doves have crafted a liberating sophomore album that happily combines the uplifting anthemic essence of dance with good old rock & roll. --Christopher Barret
Album Details
The Follow Up to the Critically Acclaimed 'lost Souls' Dispels Any Prior Notion that this Band Are Melancholy. Their Collective Confidence and Cohesion as Well as Strong Positive Attitude Come Through Each Note of this Album as You'll Hear the Moment the Laser Hits the Disc. This is an Auspicious Occasion Where the Band Prove to the World that They Indeed Belong in that Class of Groups with Radiohead, U2, Oasis and all the Rest...where Everything They Do Justifies Attention and the Praise Heaped on them from the Beginning. The First Album was Born Out of Frustration and Countless Setbacks. This Time, It's Solid and as Nme Says, 'something Fresh and New. It's a Euphoric Experience...and One that Finally Reveals What a Great Band the Doves Are.'
Customer Reviews:
fantastic.......2007-02-25
To me this is their best album so far ( 2007). It's absolutely incredible. After falling head over heel for this one I bought their other albums and although they're good they don't match the quality of this one, for me. This is a perfect album, no dud and plenty of full force space rock. The vocals are amazing and the sound is grandiose. I'll be enjoying this one for years.
Grandiose!, Epic! Mancunian!.......2006-11-11
A great album from a band that hasn't even begun to hit their stride! If I were to make a list of the cd's that I would take with me to a deserted island, this cd would be near the top.
Simply dull .......2006-08-15
Dull and uninspiring, listening to this CD I couldn't see what distinguished the Doves from the other insipid sound-a-like bands that plague the modern music scene. If you like The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers then be grateful that they've saved rock music from boring dross like this!
A Beautiful Thing.......2006-07-06
I bought this album last year after having had it recommended to me. I bought without any previous experience of the band whatsoever (despite coming from Britain) but a single listen was all it took to turn me into a diehard Doves fan. You should wallow in the album. It envelops you, it draws you in. It tugs the heartstrings without being mawkish. It is a Beautiful Thing.
On an album full of highlights my personal favourite which hasn't really been highlighted in previous reviews is `Friday's Dust', a haunting, orchestral piece that still puts the hairs on the back of my neck on edge. It is a sensational track which will pass many casual listeners by as it was never released as a single and is not particularly radio-friendly. However it is a song that, along with track 2 `Words', really sums up what Doves are about. They are far more insightful than Coldplay or Travis ever could be but they are still a rock and roll band capable of writing hits to unite the most demanding festival crowd.
Doves should be saluted for this album. In an era when most new British rock bands are looking at the past for inspiration (step forward the cringingly awful ska-cum-Smiths wannabes The Ordinary Boys and a multitude of The Jam clones) Doves are making profound music that sounds like it belongs to the 21st century whilst paying the proper respect to music history that it should. Synthesisers mix freely with acoustic guitars, orchestras and eerie sound effects to create an overall sound that makes all the songs on this album instantly recognisable from either of Doves other offerings.
My Favorite Doves Album.......2006-03-16
The Last Broadcast is the musical expression of where one goes when one hides from one's emotional vulnerabilities into the realm of the depths of one's imagination.
I like every song on this album including the two tracks which are really build ups into other songs.
There Goes the Fear
Words
Sulphur Man
Pounding
Caught by River
and Satellites (which almost reminds me of an updated variation of XTC's "Satellites") are all songs that are pockets of proud melancholy.
The deep baritone vocals are reminiscent of Red House Painters or Ride. The music is reminiscent of The Verve.
But the sound is very unique and the album is as good as any I've got in my collection.

A vibrant tribute to MGM's legendary confluence of brains, talent, hard work, ambition--and dare we say it?--massive egos, Singin' in the Rain long ago took its rightful place among the first rank of the studio's dizzying catalog of film musicals. This double-disc, 46-track 50th-anniversary edition features all of the film's familiar songs, as well as numerous outtakes and extended versions, many culled directly from the film's original recording masters. Its second disc also chronicles the film's clever--if studio imposed--self-referential musical gambit of recycling a slate of Arthur Freed/Nacio Herb Brown songs from Metro's first decade by including 14 of the originals, including performances by Jeanette McDonald, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Freed himself. Featuring a dozen previously unreleased recordings and an illustrated booklet containing the insightful reminiscences of the film's original writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it's the ultimate musical companion to one of cinema's magical, enduring masterpieces. --Jerry McCulley

the perfect movie.......2007-03-10
My old Gene did it: the perfect movie, the perfect american history, the perfect music. Some people think musicals are "B" movies. I say them: look about the dream, the performance, the music.
Who can say what is beatiful? Look at faces of Gene and Stan during the shooting on the set: whole concentration and attention for everything.
This is a unique moment in their story, and in the story of cinema.
Unforgettable.
I LOVE MY FAVORITE SONG, AND THANKS TO THIS CD I CAN LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY LONG!!.......2007-01-28
I love Singin' in the Rain. It was the movie that made me like musicals, not those simple, mellow movies like South Pacific and the Sound of Music, but REAL musicals, with people like Fred Astaire or Eleanor Powell tapping their hearts out, or great singers like Frances Langford or Dick Powell putting over a song like they mean it.The Singin' in the Rain 2disc special edition introduced me to my favorite movie, the Broadway Melody of 1936, the MOST AMAZING MOVIE EVER! So I was so glad when my parents got me the soundtrack to Singin' in the Rain, and besides the music of the 1951 versions of the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed, there are also the original versions of the songs in their original movies. I am so glad that Rhino put the duet of Robert Taylor and June Knight singing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' on this CD set! It's my favorite song, and now I can listen to it! Hooray!! It's the best song EVER!! There's also vocals of Charles King singing the Broadway Melody, which is great! And many more, like Bing Crosby, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, and other great singers I can't think of right now. This CD set is great, the sound is nice and un-staticy (mostly), there are 30-plus songs, and the price is phenomenal. I love my favorite song, and now I can listen to it all day long!! Yay! :)
Wonderful Soundtrack to a Wonderful Movie.......2006-06-16
Yes, this is it--the first real musical I ever saw. Okay, I saw "Wizard of Oz" and "The Sound of Music", and I love both of those musicals dearly. I had even seen "My Fair Lady." I thought musicals were all like those. Until this one. I had never seen such dancing. And this CD causes me to relive the joy of the musical each time I listen to it. Complete with the tap sounds. I love that they included even the deleted songs. Now we just need a DVD that has all the deleted scenes in context. But the studio probably threw all those away. Oh well, our imaginations can take care of what is missing.
Great CD.......2006-03-20
This is a great CD of music for your family to listen to. Our family enjoys it very much.
musical memories.......2006-03-14
I enjoyed this CD very much, as I remember seeing the movie years ago. I grew up watching MGM musicals and this was one of the best. I loved all of the wonderful songs that came from this movie. Great sound on this CD.

I'll Remember You Girl,..............2005-09-19
Ah, man, the 1980's.What a great time it must of been, so mellow and carefree, A LOT of very fine music came out of this decade that can almost now be dubbed with the "Classic" moniker.Although I'm a casual fan, I wouldn't be able to remember it, for I arrived in 87'.Which, in retrospect, is even more of a reason why this disc(or-LP?????!!!)can be considered great music. Few albums like this one can be enjoyed even after all this time.Which brings me to this overlooked gem. Ok, so we have Cutting Crew with their debut and unfortunately last popular album;"The Broadcast". The year, in fact, is 1987(!!!!!) and lord knows the amazing single"(I Just) Died in Your Arms" is being played all over the radio. Ok, while still a well-writtened and melodic song, this tune was doomed to over-exposure.The talented outfit known as Cutting Crew was destined to be remembered only for this now ubiquitous 80's hit. But truth be told people, this song, taken out of context, sounds like it could've came from the 90's AS WELL!In addition, ALL of the songs on this album could've (SHOULD'VE!) been hits, bar-none.
What about the music itself you ask? Well, Cutting Crew certainly carved a sound all their own. The music could be classified as almost"jazzy" up-beat pop rock.Nick Van Edee's voice is smooth and has a pattened light -hearted energy to it. All the songs are very well written and the production is inpeccable.Synth's are employed but if only to add soothing atmosphere and hold the songs together. This music is NOT in anyway "New Wave".The band sounds as if they had been playing together for years. My personal favorite is the closing "Broadcast"- this song will leave you speechless, and almost take you on a journey. Put on the headphones, chill out, and listen to this tune and I promise you the stress will just dissolve. Definately a must have for any music fan.Check it out!
A Guilty Pleasure.......2005-04-14
Being a hard-rockin' kind of guy, I am hesitant to review this CD. The fact of the matter is, this album is jam packed with great, catchy songs you will have a hard time getting out of your head. It is the kind of CD that when you're playing it, your mother will ask you what you're listening too. Anyway, don't tell anyone, but I love this CD!
A terrific slice of new wave.......2005-02-04
I stumbled onto Broadcast at a used records store and decided to give it a whirl. It turned out to be a surprisingly awesome album. I'm used to some 80s new wave bands lacking depth on their albums beside their standout single - while When in Rome has some nice songs on their album, "The Promise" clearly stands alone.
Cutting Crew has a hard-hitting album, that confidently places the power single - "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" in the sixth slot. In between the beginning and the song we all knew beforehand are a pack of remarkably good songs. The first four are particularly effective - the energy of "Any Colour" carries over brilliantly into the passionate "One For the Mockingbird". "I've Been in Love Before" makes a smooth, total transition into emotional territory before the dramatic heights of "Life in a Dangerous Time" (a song written about 15 years too early).
By the time we come to "(I Just) Died in Your Arms", the power single isn't needed to convince us of the talent and vision of Cutting Crew - it only confirms what we already know.
Other strong songs on the album include the deceptively sedate "Sahara" and "It Shouldn't Take Too Long." The title track sounds curiously similar to the music of Howard Jones.
The above seven are, I think, the strongest songs on the album, but Cutting Crew makes no real mistakes with any of their songs. This is a remarkably packed album, and an essential addition to the collection of any 80s fan.
-----
As an aside, I should caution people not to put any stock in reviews that rip on Cutting Crew's main single and the album as a whole, without mentioning anything about the other songs. Transparent reviews like that clearly illustrate the reviewer's failure to listen to the album. Sad, but true.
Oh! The 80's!.......2004-06-15
This was my favorite album when it was released way back when. I Just died In Your Arms was my favorite song. Cutting Crew's music was mixing the new wave sound of the early decade with the hard rock acts that came along later that decade, like Bon Jovi and Motley Crue. All the songs have those great synths and guitars. The singer's voice is amazing. Any true fan of 80's pop rock must own this album. It is a tried and true classic.
Remember the time............2004-03-03
This album aided in my first heart break
True love not meant to be
Now it aids me in my quest
Listen to the words
Makes sense of the mess

Album Description
Produced by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Social Distortion, Silverstein ,Tenacious D) and the band, Broadcast to the World proves it was worth waiting for with smart, razor-sharp rockers like "Rated U for Ugly," "Karma Flavored Whisky" and "Broadcast to the World."
Against a big, buoyant backdrop painted by guitarist Greg Bergdorf, drummer Ed Udhus and bassist Ben Osmundson, Lewis and rapper Ali Tabatabaee detail scenarios of betrayal ("Here's to You"), domestic troubles ("Your New Girlsfriend Wears Girlpants") and soured relationships ("Back to Normal"). With new addition to zebrahead Matty Lewis on this album you can tell the band means business.
Broadcast to the World is the successor to zebrahead's critically acclaimed third release, MFZB. MFZB had the highest testing alternative song for months running with "Rescue Me". MFZB also went gold in Japan! Playmate of the Year, released in 2000 to rave reviews, the album's infectious title track received over 4000 spins on Modern Rock and Rock radio, garnering airplay on some of the nation's biggest alternative stations. Meanwhile, its provocative companion video, which co-starred a harem of curvy Playboy playmates and was shot at the Playboy mansion, was steaming up television screens across the country. Broadcast to the World has all the electrifying energy of a live zebrahead show, blending raging tempos and ringing guitar lines into surging, insistent choruses that stick after a single listen.
Customer Reviews:
This is one of the best albums i've ever heard........2007-04-19
Seriously. No lie. It starts out amazing with the first 4 tracks (Broadcast to the World, Rated U For Ugly, Anthem, and Enemy). Then you think to yourself, "this is where the album falls apart like every other album in existence." Wrong. The rest of the songs (all of them), are awesome. Some are stronger then others, but all good.
What makes this album so great is the rocking choruses (these guys know how to write a good hook!) and simple but rocking riffs filled with tons of energy. You can these guys are really comfortable with their instruments, as they are technically solid.
Not only is this CD good and lighthearted, but also it may be the best CD you have ever purchased.
This band has become so much more and I can't wait to here more from them.
Zebrahead has changed? *Gasp* No way!.......2007-04-01
Okay, lets set the facts straight first. This is Zebraheads first record with new singer Matty Lewis, who is argueably less talented than former Co-frontman Justin Mauriello. This is Zebraheads 4th album, discounting the Yellow album and Waste of MFZB. In their 'debut' album, Waste of Mind, we saw funky basslines, a unique blend of reggae, punk, and funk, and the at-the-time popular 2 frontmen. It was a mindblowing album. POTY followed, it introducing a more pop-driven Zebrahead, with even more catchy lyrics then their debut. MFZB came around, and Zebrahead no longer had the funky basslines and their original patented OC punk-reggae sound.
But it was a phenominal album. It was labeled as being 'Pop Punk,' and whatever the hell that is, they one-uped all the other Blink ripoffs easily. Then their singer Justin left, and Matty came in. Matty sounds like Justin... but doesn't seem to have that powerful, booming depth that Justin displayed at times. Despite that, 'Broadcast' delivers the same delightfully ear friendly tunes that MFZB so beautifully displayed. As if yearning to be the band they once were, you can still see the funk influences in BTTW, however only in one song, "Back to Normal."
The title song and "Karma Flavored Whiskey" are hard hitting songs with an almost metal edge to them. "Here's To You" is one of the catchiest songs Zebrahead has ever written. The first single, "Anthem" is amazing to sing along to.
But heres the catch: MFZB was a downright jawdropping album. Their were no "bad" songs. BTTW continued the new, faster paced, angstier Zebrahead flow, however, it argueably does have a few "bad" songs. The last 2 tracks are snoozers. "Enemy" tries to mix things up, with Zebrahead setting a darker atmosphere, but it fails.
Bottom line? If you LOVED MFZB, you'll thoroughly enjoy BTTW. But MFZB still is the better of the two.
Zebrahead used to be good before this.......2007-03-01
MFZB and Playmate are two of my favorite cd's out there and this one sure makes the band sound like crap. The new singer just isnt as good as the previous one. He makes the band sound like another pop band like Good Charlotte that is targeting the audience of teenage girls. A few songs are good, but overall the CD is crap and I cant bring myself to listen to it as much as previous Zebrahead cd's. It doesnt have the same energy as previous albums.
BROADCAST TO THE WORLD REVIEW.......2006-12-17
If you are a Zebrahead fan or just trying it for the first time let me tell you this, THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST CDS TO OWN!!!! In their debut in 1998 the band Zebrahead had created there first cd, Waste of Mind. A Rap/Rock cd with very catchy lyrics took people by storm. And even though none of Zebrahead's cd had never been like there other cds yet had some links between each other, Broadcast to the World trys new ideas and still keeps their same funky, catchy style. (Even though Justin, the former band leader and creater.)
Broadcast To The World.......2006-10-24
MFZB was probably the best pop-punk record released in 2003, with unique dual vocals and better hooks than most bands can say they've ever written. With the release of Broadcast To The World, two things become evident. 1) Justin is no longer in the band. 2) Zebrahead have lost alot of the hip-hop/funk element that made them so unique. Broadcast To The World is not a bad record by any means, but after such a stellar LP like MFZB, I was expecting ALOT more! The hooks here are catchy, but at the same time, they just aren't as memorable as the ones on past releases. I really tried to get into matty's singing voice too, but he sounds so much like simple plan's Pierre that it's almost hard to ignore. The production as a whole is nothing to write home about either, although, to be fair, I've heard alot worse.
If you caved and bought the record months ago when it came out, you got two b-sides/ bonus tracks. If you waited, pat yourself on the back. Both Riot Girl and Down In Flames are two of the worst Zebrahead b-sides I've ever heard.

great music, interesting collaborations from jxl.......2006-04-21
I first heard about Junkie XL through a radio appearance where he was interviewed and some of the tracks off this album were played. The two which really struck me were Crusher (sung by Saffron) and Angels (the Gary Numan track). Based on that, I bought the album and I'm quite pleased with it. Of the two CDs, I prefer the 3pm CD. The three Saffron tracks (Crusher, Sprits, Beauty Never Fades) remain my favorites, but the the rest of the CD is strong as well. The 3am CD is not bad, but the higher energy of the 3pm CD is what I keep coming back to.
Shortly after buying this CD I also bought Junkie XL's companion album entitled 7am, which is available for download off his website. That one is 19 tracks divided into two discs: 7am - ambient, and 7am - dance. It's just under two hours of additional music, and has some interesting reworkings of the Computer Hell Cabin material. If you really like this album, I recommend 7am as well.
Where's the edge?.......2006-03-19
Apparently Tom mellowed to accustom his music to the guest artists and not the other way around, making this CD somewhat of a dissappointement, considering the high quality of the earlier two albums.
It's a pop CD, nothing more than that. The collaborations with Elvis and Solomon Burke are worth getting the CD for, but otherwise... not too special I'm afraid.
Let's hope he gets the big beat edge back soon.
This CD is brilliant!!.......2005-09-29
When I first bought this CD I wasnt too familiar with JXL's own production. Only remixes he had done of other artists. What attracted me to the album was first watching "The UMF Experience", a sort of documentary on the closing event of the Winter Music Conference in Miami FL thats held every year. I had watched and really liked the 2 songs of his played on the program (Breezer and Beauty Never Fades...the program also brought me to attend UMF 2005 but thats another story). From the moment I heard the radio jingles on the Intro I was hooked. In my opinion the man is a musical genius. 3 PM is his own take on daytime radio and very interesting. Even if you arent into elcetronica I would think Crusher, Reload, Perfect Ble Sky and Access to the Excess are worth checking out. 3 AM is what I'm all about (being an Electronic Dance Music DJ myself). I could listen to this disc over and over and not get tired of it. From the ambience of Chilled...to the flight of Breezer..to the slam of Nudge and Beauty Never Fades. Together both CD's combine to make what I think is one of the best pieces of music ever made.
What a disapointment.......2005-05-31
I'll sum up my feelings for this album in two characters... : (
I was extremely disapointed when I popped this CD in... I had such high hopes, being a fan of Saturday Teenage Kick and LOVING Big Sounds of the Drags. Obviously it was the "unkie" in Junkie XL that supplied the quality beats, as after he dropped it for his version of "Little Less Conversation" things went seriously downhill.
I'm just gonna sit here and listen to Love Like Razorblade and reminisce the good old days...
Just like this years Ultra Fest.......2005-05-08
This is def a great cd and mix for Junkie. This album has go just what you need to get you in the mood. This album reminds me a lot of his performance at this years Ultra Fest7 in Miami Fl March 26,2005. I saw him live and it was SICK keep up the good work.late.

good.......2006-11-28
Broadcast has always been a big favorite of mine. They have been in California many times in the past few years. There are two great albums, and now like a collection of b-sides and rarities. Maybe not so new to the hardcore Broadcast fan. A majority of the material was done in 1999-2001. There are some songs from the Pendulum EP too. This CD represents the more experiment and more non-commercial side of the band. Most of it comes from rare and hard to find releases, mostly on Warp Records. It is an excellent bunch of songs. I am glad that Broadcast is able to show off their many sides.
Great B-Sides!.......2006-08-25
How can someone say they do not like Work and Non-Work!? That is a great album! Okay, now getting back to Furure Crayon! This has some good 60's Psychedelics on this album as well as Electronic Melodies! I am buying the vinly this weekend! Get this album if you enjoy their other work!
futuristic "Crayon".......2006-08-23
I have to admit that I've never been wild about the B-sides from Broadcast -- as much as I adore "Haha Sound" and "The Noise Made By People," but their early doodlings in "Work and Non-Work" just never grabbed me.
Fortunately their later B-sides, UK EPs, rarities and discards are far superior, as displayed in "Future Crayon." While not perfect -- some songs just never gel together as music -- some of the songs on here are perfect gems, and others are just chilly trippy music.
It open with the steady, solid "Illumination," where a steady bassline is wrapped up in airy synth, while Trish Keenan's clear voice croons a hard-to-decipher song. The music gets even harder in the second song, which is a droning ballad that sounds like a robot love song.
From there on, the spattering of B-sides and rarities takes all sorts of directions -- they do twinkly yet ominous pop melodies, meditative noodling, abrasive little sci-fi jazz numbers that never really form into songs, Middle-Eastern trip-hop, buzzy folk, angular electronica, and airy ambient numbers that drift off while you listen to them.
It's hard to really describe the sound of Broadcast, while avoiding words like "retro." In fact, it doesn't really sound like a retro band, but like a bunch of ghosts and meditative robots who have formed a sixties cover band, and are playing on a wintry morning. Yep, that's how it really sounds at times.
And the surprising thing about "Futuristic Crayon" is that many of the songs do seem to fit together, even though they were not made as an album -- the buzzy synth and ambiguous melodies tie together from song to song, so that if you didn't know better, you might think they had all been made together. Even in the folkier numbers like "Unchanging Window/Chord Simple," they put in some fuzz bass and touches of electronica.
There are a few duds, however -- "One Hour Empire" is basically one long drum solo with some flourishes thrown in, and it never actually becomes something listenable. And some of the songs just need tightening up, since they have bits that just waffle around aimlessly.
Trish Keenan's voice is one of Broadcast's most important assets -- her voice is clear, cool and thoughtful. James Cargill's music serves as the perfect backdrop for her singing and the cool, intelligent lyrics. "Some words cannot be bound/no anchor can be found/this land which used/will be too confused/and when they shake your hand/the ground will break away..."
If those few dud tracks had been excised, "Future Crayon" could have been the rare B-sides album that is mistaken for a full-length release. Like a flawed but still beautiful crystal.

Eric Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops have done it again. This is a spectacular collection. It makes you feel like getting dressed up with a lot of glitz and glam and going dancing. Though I must admit that Fredrica Von Stade's rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" will definitely touch your heart.

Customer Reviews:
Disorderly conduct.......2007-01-19
It's a bit tricky to be a musician today, for many reasons. In particular, the endless directions and methods available to composers, something artists of the 20th century fought tooth and nail to provide, can prove paralytical when you're approaching a "blank canvas". Throw the ready availability of computers into the mix and it's overwhelming. Just how the hell does one limit his possibilities and actually complete a piece of music?
Broadcast had a novel idea: use it all.
HaHa Sound is a good example what a talented band can do in an era of infinite possibilities. Truly, the album's diversity knows very few limits and reads like a musical history lesson. Psychedelia, classic electroacoustics, rock, folk and even Bach-like fugues fight for the spotlight, yet never get in each other's way. "Colour Me In" begins with a (pre-drug addled) Marianne Faithfull tune, seemingly infected by broken machines: almost-identifiable samples (I think there's a bike falling off the porch in there) explode, bubble and mesh with buzzing 8-bit string sounds, harpsichord/carousel melodies and Trish Keenan's straight-out-of-a-time-machine, Euro-hippie-chic vocals. "Pendulum" shifts gears with steady lo-fi drums, organ licks and Venusian guitars; it shoegazes and glides like the greatest My Bloody Valentine B-side ever. "Before We Begin" conjures images of a kitsch-stuffed video -- all cheesy star-wipes, spinning lights and hippie slogans painted across go-go dancers' midsections.
Broadcast have done some serious research, evident in their impeccable explorations, but their true genius is their ability to work with structured and not-so-structured ideas and make them feel natural. Most of the songs on HaHa Sound begin with a clear melody (usually held down in the vocals) and some other steady pattern (drums, synth blobs). These are pitched against complete dissonance created by guitars, laptops and microtonal synths -- I can't imagine how Keenan keeps her pitch when she's playing live. It's as if two bands collided onstage, but somehow fused their polar opposite personalities to make something organic, even if that cohesion sometimes hangs by a thread ("Distorsion", "Hawk").
Broadcast evidently have no qualms about living in ambiguity, using whatever tools are available and turning chaos into catchy cohesion. As a result, HaHa Sound is a disorderly delight.
Broadcast's lovely "sound.......2004-06-28
What is Broadcast? Broadcast is dreamy, swirly indie-pop-rock that manages to be experimental and familiar all at once, with hints of jazz, trip-hop, and general melodic confusion. Does the British band's third release, "Haha Sound," pull itself together into a good album? In a word, yes.
A gently dischordant opener kicks off the entrancing, quirky "Colour Me In." Following it up is the slightly staticky rockers like "Pendulum" and the vaguely spooky "Man is Not A Bird," sparkly pop like "Lunch Hour Pops" and "Ominous Cloud," and offbeat ballads like "Before We Begin" and the ethereal "Valerie." Not to mention stately soundscapes like the shimmering "Minim" and experimental spazzing in "Distorsion."
You don't really expect rock to be pretty, or pop to explore new musical ground. But Broadcast manages both at the same time. They effortlessly switch from mellow to childlike to jaded. And their music is a neo-60s tangle that sorts itself out into simple, jangly melodies.
Trish Keenan's voice is well suited to the dreamy music; she has that sort of high, sweet voice that is often associated with schoolgirls. But in some songs like "Little Bell," her voice dips down and becomes much throatier. Okay, you can't really understand what she's saying, but if you dig down to the lyrics, you'll get some evocative, wintry songs with lots of references to sleep, snow, ice and cold. At times the lyrics can border on sappy ("You are the only one/To keep me sane when all is wrong") but it never quite crosses that border.
Psychedelic guitar riffs are the core of Broadcast's sound in this CD. But not the only part of the sound: There's quite a bit of distortion and fuzziness in some of the rock songs, augmented by some subtle work on the drums -- particularly the eerie, drippy solo at the end of "Man Is Not A Bird." Adding to the atmosphere are the cymbals, and adding a more delicate note is the triangle.
The retro-60s sound of Broadcast is polished further in "Haha Sound," a pretty collection of musically adventurous pop-rock. Highly recommended.

Mo Pop.......2004-04-21
I first heard Broadcast a few years ago. I heard one of their EPs and was disappointed. I had high hopes because other people mentioned them to me often. But recently I saw them play this year and heard this new full album. I was excited by it. It seems like everything you would want in a record: psychedelic, dreamy, and rhythmic... You often hear John Barry and Morricione mentioned when people talk about Broadcast. I think that Broadcast takes soundtrack music to a more interesting and darker place. "Pendulum" is a great song and it's great that they include it on this album. Where other bands like them have either went electro or loss their focus or even quit altogether, it's wonderful that Broadcast has come out this year seeming like one of the freshest, most original bands of the year. Songs like "Before We Begin" and "Valerie" show off their more subtle and mellow side. You then remember that they are on Warp Records and not some independent French label. The album length allows them to explore sound and use noise. They do this as well as more regular songs. It's important in music today to be original and not just rehash your record collection. Broadcast are definitely one of those special groups that have a distinct sound that looks forward and backwards, and celebrates everything great in music about right now. History is bunk. Hopefully more people will stop following trends and worrying about what is cool, and just listen to bands like Broadcast. Who cares about your haircut?
Captivating!.......2004-03-30
Broadcast is one of the few current bands that I give two nickels about, and this disc proves that they continue to evolve and grow. I remember being a poor teen who could only afford (or convince his parents to purchase) one or two 'tapes' a month. Of course, I listened-the-heck out of those tapes, which is something I do less often now, seeing how I have more CDs and less time to listen to them (if only I could make the $ without working). Upon buying Haha Sound, though, I listened-the-heck out of it for five days straight - this disc reeled me in, and I was forced to explore what was going on. Come on!! You can't even tell what instrument is being played half the time, or how it's being played. Some moments on this disc are the poppiest Broadcast moments ever (pop='emotionally affecting', not 'sell-out'), yet others push the rollercoaster of weirdness to greater heights. Broadcast, like every great band, has influences and roots in the past, yet they continue to push forward and create music that couldn't have existed at any other time. This is what, years from now, will put Broadcast heads and shoulders above the legions of revivalists and imitators littering the scene right now. With this album, Broadcast continues to move ahead, while taking rock and pop with them.

Album Description
On their fourth LP, the consistently amazing and ethereal BROADCAST return with their most complete album to date, a concise and lovely song-oriented electronic album for the masses. Behind the opium-soaked beauty of TRISH KEENAN's voice & the well constructed 14-song arrangement, the band swirls guitar, live and programmed drums, and keys together to produce a stellar & expertly produced set.
Customer Reviews:
That special sound is gone!.......2007-03-19
Im always for experimentation and i guess Broadcast could do no better than their first two amazing unique stellar albums on warp. Tender Buttons has 3 or 4 songs i liked but the rest was not only lacking their usually ghostly sound but the loss of their excellent live jazzy lounge drummer is the end of this band in my opinion. In many cases a drummer can make or break a band and though the female singer Trish and songwriter are left theyve lost that special something they had. Annoying drum machines clatter away synths sequenced to simplistic motifs- fragments of songs that in the past were carried by unique arrangements falter under the sound of what i guess was hip in electronica a few years ago. For the uninitiated- please get Noise made by People and HAHA Sound- two of the most original and special records from the last ten years.
Through Thin Ice Into Non-Music.......2007-02-19
I have been a huge fan of this band and wanted to follow them to what ever austere soundscape or haunting lullaby they cast in their wake. Tender Buttons is a major disappointment, however, abandoning melody, pacing and balanced construction along with their ex-members. Haha Sound pointed toward this atonal soup, but still had enough songs and mood pieces to create a whole; the experimental electronic interludes they produce are an essential element of their persona. But here they overwhelm all other content; noise for it's own sake.
Being daring and experimental requires discipline and a certain restraint. Too much noodling and even the most hip cutting edge group can evoke the incoherence of a jam band on a bad night. Their previous efforts, especially the brilliant Noise Made By People were accomplished and experimental at the same time. Tender Buttons is the sound of a band going over a cliff, the loss of the pure light that complimented the subconscious darkness, leaving a murky quagmire instead of art.
Pushes All The Right Buttons.......2006-07-14
The musical prowess of Broadcast is not to be fully appreciated until you've listened to a goodly portion of their catalog. They certainly know how to convey a message poignantly. And though I always feel like I'm listening to a fusion of specific other favorite bands when listening to them (I won't name names), I've come to learn that they frequently transcend the sounds that they seem to be emulating. Broadcast is the real deal, and Tender Buttons is a tremendous addition to their body of work -- definitely going one better than Haha Sound and approaching, if not equalling (yeah, equalling), their older stuff.
Ping Pong Static.......2006-02-24
The broadcast know how to use static, and white noise better than most acts; not only do they rely on noise to creat atmosophere but also to create a beat.
Tender Buttons is a definite experiment for Broadcast, how much farther could they take noise and keep it dancey/listenable. The overall album falls prey to it's own ambitions occasionally, especially in comparison to the over-all well versed and paced Noise Made By People or Pendulum. If you are a fan of Broadcast, than you must join them to continue on this path of new sounds and you will be rewarded. But if this is your first time to Broadcast territory, you may want to grab Ha Ha Sound or The Noise Made By People albums first.
Some very good electro-rock music - genre fans will like this a lot! - 4.5 stars.......2006-01-16
Broadcast's "Tender Buttons" is indeed a very good electro-rock album that even manages to cook up a few GREAT songs (see "Black Cat" for one of my favorite songs of 2005). Fortunately every song here is good or decent, but they definitely aren't as good or catchy as the second track "Black Cat". This is easily the album's standout track. The female vocalist here does a pretty good job, but I don't think she's universally likable - I could see some people not enjoying her. However, she at least somewhat fits the music. Lyrically the album is pretty easy to make out and is usually pretty interesting to hear, though I've yet to figure out what the songs are really about - I still think you'll have a good time paying close attention to them. Musically the album is sort of like a lo-fi electronic-rock set - it's a little hard to explain, but I suppose that's a good thing considering I don't know any other band that sounds like Broadcast. At times they also slow things down a bit with a couple "electro-folk" pieces that make some pretty good mellow or background music. It's definitely a unique style, but it's one that I'm not sure most people will like. "Tender Buttons" is essentially a very good album that I think will most likely only appeal to fans of the genre, but they will most certainly be pleased. Highly recommended!
