4 out of 5 stars MeloDeath from the Far East.......2007-07-28

This is the debut album of Japan's own: Blood Stain Child
This is quite a first. There's nothing in this record that would let you know these guys aren't from Finland or any other countries with strong ties to this style of music, this is how great they sound.
They establish right away two of their strong sides, Speed and Melodies.
But also their weakness, lyrics. Don't buy this hoping for deep meaningful writing.
There may be only seven songs on the album but they are all very good to great songs. BSC also use a more Organ (almost gothic at times) sound for their keybord unlike the more "standardized" sound of most MeloDeath bands. The only real complain I have with this LP (The only reason behind a 4 stars over 5) is the production value. It is quite inacceptable for a Metal record (post 2000) to sounds that weak. Especialy the drums. I mean, everything sounds "OK" but the drums recording seemed to have been an after tought. The bass drum sounds so weak it's laughable. Maybe you won't care but I sure do.
Beside this, this album is excellent and should be in any MeloDeath fans' collection. But if you have only one BSC album to get, pick up their second album: MYSTIC YOUR HEART (see my review for more infos)
Really great but not their best.

4 out of 5 stars Japanese Fury.......2004-01-28

I am a big fan of Melodic Death Metal. This genre is very popular in Europe. Outside of Europe you rarely find melodic death metal bands. When I went to Japan to visit my girlfriend, I entered the biggest cd shop in Tokyo and I said to myself "If there exist a Japanese Melodic Death Band, I will find it". I went up to the guy working on the Japanese music floor and with the help of my girlfriend I asked him about this music genre. Even though he was trying to help me out as much as he could, he only brought up some punk cd. I told him "I don't like this crap, you gotta find me the good stuff". So after an hour he remembered that a friend of his friend was in an heavy metal band. It took him only 5 minutes to get a hold of him. As soon as he put down the phone, he run across the room and brought back with him 2 cds. One was this "Silence of Northern Hell" by Blood Stain Child, and the other was a band called "Sorrow of Tranquility" (and yes, they spell it with only one "L"). Well by the name and cover art of these two cds, I knew I was on the right track.

To tell you the truth, I was and still am very amazed at these two bands. Blood Stain Child is very influenced by Children Of Bodom. Since amazon.com doesn't list the tracks on this album I shall,

1. Silence Of Northern Hell
2. Crimson Symphony
3. Under The Sin Of Grief
4. Legend Of Dark
5. Requiem
6. King Of The Sacred Sword
7. Infernal World

The similarity to Children Of Bodom can be heard in all the tracks but especially the intro to the song "Legend Of Dark". It seems to come out from a Children Of Bodom unreleased album.
All the tracks are pretty good, with some being pretty excellent. Tracks 3,4,5, and 7 are all excellent. The last track being my favourite. The other tracks are also very good. I have been listening to this band since I bought the album and I must tell you that their songs don't get boring. Ryuichi, the lead guitarist and songwriter is a very talented musician. The songs are very complex, fast, melodic, and brutal. I never thought a japanese person could scream like this.

Apparently, this band was the opener to Children Of Bodom when they toured Japan. But I'm not sure about this fact.
Overall this record is really good. It impressed me very much. The only bad things are that it is very short album and obviously one shouldn't take the lyrics seriously as it is rare to find a Japanese person who speaks english very well. For these two reasons I am forced to give this album 4 Stars.

This album is really good and any melodic death metal fan should get a hold of it, to broaden their knowledge of this genre and to see what musicians from the other side of the world are up to.

Yet... they totally rule. They are half CoB, half Ensiferum. You wouldn't even know they are from Japan. This beats CoB in my opinion. At least their newer stuff.
