Product Description
Maxmillion sees the reunion of Jason & Bobby whose musical vision was responsible for years of uncompromising & pioneering sludge in the band 16 (yes, that's right, they of the classic 1996 album, 'Drop Out'). This record represents the next step for Jason & Bobby & has seen them join together with Chris Jones (bass) to create a monstrously heavy, thick & evil sound. Comparisons will be difficult, but Maxmillion pull together elements of sludge, metalcore, doom & thrash resulting in one severe experience of pure sonic heaviness. Retribute Records. 2002.

A demo has been released prior the this selftitled longplayer.
Sure thanks to the fact of the originators of the band some slight similaritys to 16 are here.
But giving the album the first listening sessions I can come up with the knowing, that MAXMILLION got a much darker side to it.
The opening track WASTE OF RELATIONS is based around a wicked SLUDGE guitarriff and the vocals are dark, desperate somewhere near GRIEF. The second THE ANGEL THAT FELL THROUGH EARTH is almost a clear DOOM track, convincing.
PURE BLACK suprises with clear vocals that are soon be followed by the brutal scream style, a contrast not to new but it works fine on this track. The guitar work on this track could also stand on a 16 album. To lighten the record up a little bit even some GRIND parts found use on COLD STEEL WARM HEART. All the tracks have simple but effective songstructures, guitar solos(except from a very short one in DILATED EYES) or anything fancy like that is not to be found here, pure minimalism.
In my ears all the tracks have a misantrophic, nihilistic side to it and in my case this is more than welcome.
The production is mudy, not to clear it helps to develops the darkside even more. The album sounds almost dirty, fine.
If you got still no idea what they are about, try to think of GRIEF/16 with a dark SLUDGE/DOOM touch on the march through hell.
Kerrang Magazine Review 4/2003.......2003-05-01
Opening track 'Waste Of Relations' sets out the rules clearly from the start-there's no space to breathe or room to think, instead Maxmillion simply flatten the listener with the sheer weight of their sound. It's a noise that sounds like EyeHateGod and a 70s cocaine-fuelled Sabbath fighting over the last of the Melvins' drugs. Don't say you haven't been warned.
