Walter Trout has to be one of the most under-appreciated guitarist ever! His soulful playing makes him sound as if he is one with the guitar. Where has this guy been all my life LOL?

Crank It Up!.......2006-12-10

My introduction to Walter Trout was via John Mayall's cover of the Trout-penned Life In The Jungle. And like the reviewer from New Zealand, I think Mayall's version is superior. That being said, I am glad that Mayall covered it else I might not have gotten to hear the music of Mr. Trout.
Before I bought any Trout recordings, I had the impression through articles I read about him that he is a blues guitarist. Well, he is, but not in the strictest sense. Much of this CD reminds me of the blues-rock of the early Allman Brothers Band. So Trout is as much about rock and roll as he is about the blues.
While the entire CD is pretty good, my favorites are Good Enough To Eat, the title cut, a searing Red House, and the duo of blues drenched tunes that close the album: Cold, Cold, Feeling and Serve Me Right To Suffer.
Life In the Jungle would be a hit at any party where good music is for more than just background noise. If you are one who enjoys the Allman Brothers, older Lynyrd Skynyrd, or even John Mayall, you are bound to like this. So crank it up and enjoy!

Great Album.......2006-11-03

This is a must-have album. I rarely write reviews but this album (and Walter Trout) simply cannot be ignored. Walter Trout is among the best guitarists in the world. What he does to his Fender Stratocaster should be outlawed! He effortlessly plays with amazing speed, accuracy and power. Pure and simple, he is a Guitar God, and you will play this album over and over..and loud! With so much trash being passed off as talent and/or rock and roll today, if you are looking for the real deal, then look no further. I grew up in the 60s and 70s with Zeppelin, Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, The Who, etc. and Water Trout is superior to all the lead guitrists from those bands. Yes, I love Jimmy Page and Led Zep, but Walter is better than Jimmy. There may never be another Jimi Hendrix, and with the exception of possibly SRV, I believe Walter Trout is better than any rock guitarist from the 70s and 80s. Eddie Van Halen could have possibly been one of the greats of all time but he wasted his life and is a shell of the rock giant he once was. I've been listening to rock for 40+ years, and with all due respect to the great bands of the 70s and 80s, none of them has/had a guitarist so polished and amazing as Walter Trout. Sure his band won't ever be as great as the super bands of the 70s, but his talent is so amazing it deserves a listen. Buy it and enjoy!

Guitarslinger delux.......2006-10-22

This is my first of more to come CD from Walter Trout. He is an a**kicking guitar player. He reminds me of SRV. His live rendition of Red House and his other two live songs are awesome. I hope he tours the US soon, as he is a must see for blues lovers.

Red House - Unbelievable!.......2006-06-20

Now, I haven't heard the album but I just bought it. I recently discovered Bluesville on XM radio and heard "Red House" late last week. I had to have it! I've heard some great guitar work but Walter Trout blows everyone (I've heard, anyway) away. I scoured record stores in town to come up with nothing. I'm getting the impression Walter Trout is bigger in Europe than here. Hopefully channels like Bluesville can increase awareness. I really was only a passing appreciator of the blues until I tuned in Bluesville a few weeks ago. I'm finding that it's not an acquired taste like jazz might be considered; you can just dump somebody into blues and they don't have any choice but to love it!

This is an excellent Drum n' Bass mix. I'm not sure if it deserves 5 out of 5 stars, but I couldn't give it anything less...If you like female vocals over DnB then this is the album for you.

sounds great.... BUT.......2004-02-22

don't get me wrong. i'm not hatin. however, please leave out the diva singers. if i wanted to hear that club-friendly poppish crap i would go to a gay club and listen to whitney houston house remixes while getting stared down by freakishly strange transvestites. i expect the contrary when i want my drum & bass sounds and i tend to agree heavily with the previous reviewer. HOWEVER, the mix between trak 4's "bizarre" by illformats and track 5's "now is the time" by dj abstract is the BADDEST mix i've ever heard in my life (no joke mofo). jeez.. its like the longest mix between 2 records i've ever heard in my life. so i'm not hatin. its an awesome cd. but i would still recommend resonance over this one. and yes! this is definately drum & bass... don't listen to those tech-step loving naysayers. its just alittle more friendly than all the purist are used too.

This album does not deserve 5 stars. It seriously lacks......DRUM AND BASS. 5 out of 16 tracks actually fit the genre. The other songs are nothing more than pure dark, twisted, hardcore TECHNO. I would never recommend this cd to another American in hopes they might expand their narrow-minded opinions about music. It has no cross-over appeal, unless of course you like the Pop-club progressive house you hear on your local radio stations. Drum and Bass Cd's should come hard or not at all. Drum and Bass, Thump and Kick. You should feel it hit your chest, consequently causing you to move your feet. It should not inspire you to twirl lights in a frenzy. Do not misunderstand me, the cd is not terrible.....it's just not Drum n' Bass. Check Out Bad Company, Adam F, and/or Dillinja/Lemon D if you wanna hear real DnB.

WOW!!.......2003-09-29

That's all I kept on saying to myself as each track unfolded. Holy crap was another popular one. To me Reid Speed is the best D n' B DJ in the world. She is bringing to the game something that her peers Dara, AK1200, Dieselboy and Goldie are missing, HEART. That's right Reid throws in enough vocals into this mix to keep the listeners attention and make them coming back for more. I would recommend this cd to anyone just getting into drum and bass AND experienced D n B listeners.

i love dnb but i don't purchase many cd's...
this one was a big surprise to me since Reid Speed is one of my favorite live dj's!!! pounding pounding beats with great progressive programming and some breaks thrown in to keep it interesting... all with a nice female touch!

Forgotten classics.......1999-07-14

First of all, ignore the clueless "Emap" review -- this is an wonderful CD. Secret Life is a collection of Material's early singles and contains much of their best work. This is the pre-jazz Material, the music is super groove-oriented with lots of minimalist, hard-edged funk, early 80's rock and a few avant touches. Bill Laswell and Fred Maher are a crack rhythm section, and there's great offbeat guitar work by Cliff Cultreri and Robert Quine.

I highly recommend picking this up before it goes out of print.

The only dud is 'I Ain't' got you' and 'Ridin' on the L&M' takes a while to warm up. Rajon. 2005.
