Just About His Best.......2007-07-10
Johnny Winter made a lot of great albums but, to me, "Still Alive and Well," produced with Rick Derringer, stands out as even better than the rest. This album marked tbe high point of his career.
"Rock Me Baby," "Rock N' Roll" and the title track are probably his most remembered from this album, but "Cheap Tequila" has always been my favorite. Another great track is the country and westernish "Ain't Nothing to Me": Like most great C&W tunes, it's all in the lyrics. And I don't want to leave out mention of the two covers of Rolling Stone songs, "Let It Bleed" and "Silver Train." Although it appears on the Stones' "Goats Head Soup" album, "Silver Train" was actually written by Jagger and Richards specifically for Johnny Winter.
There isn't a weak song on the album and, with the CD, you get two excellent bonus tracks that weren't on the original LP: "Lucille" and a kick a** version of Bob Dylan's "From a Buick Six."
Bye the way, Johnny Winter is still alive and well, although every now and then I think it's kinda hard to tell...
Pure Art!.......2007-04-04
Johnny Winter made the mean and nasty blues/rock gutair sound a staple. No other can compeat. Excellent recording.
I just wish the bonus songs had Johnny's signature gutair tracks on them, but hey, still superb!
I love this album!.......2007-01-05
This album / CD rocks! Can't stop playing it! Nuff said.
This album came out before i was born!!!!!!!!.......2007-01-03
And it is one of my all time favorites!!!!!!
I got it when Wherehouse music was going out of business-all the cassettes were 1/2 off. I got it just because I had "heard of" Johnny Winter. So I drove home with about 7 tapes and listened to this one and then the next........ A week later I was thinking of the songs on it and have been a fan since. Its got that vibe that great records have. I was floored by the slide work.I love this album. It is unlike his other albums as he is avid blues player. But on this album and another he lets go and rocks with the best. Give this one a chance and see what you think.
Polished , Hard And Maybe His Best Circa 1973 and 1974.......2006-12-25
Johnny Winter was poised and achieved heavy acclaim at the time of this release and his next "Saints @ Sinners" which also should not be missed for relative tight blues rock so in tune at the time....hailed as "comeback", Indeed, Still Alive and Well is a solid recording and this fine sounding CD featured tight blues from this Powerhouse Trio...An occasional mellotron (Todd Rundgren), piano and flute sweeten out the mix as the Winter band never strays from it's roots covering usual old blues covers, new tunes from the band and the occasional Stones (and bonus Dylan Cover) covers, in this case a really fine reworking of "Silver Train" that was heavily played on FM radio in New York at the time of "Goats Head Soup" while also covering the Stones "Let It Bleed"..
Dylan's 'From A Buick 6" (Highway 61 Revisited)is an added workout,Rick Derringer's "Still Alive And Well" is a kicker and the sweet "Cheap Tequila" and low down accoustic "Too Much Seconal" are the standouts.

Album Description
"If we've ran a million miles to get to this place, we'll keep the pace" sings LATTERMAN as We Are Still Alive begins...and with the release of their critically acclaimed No Matter Where We Go..!, inclusion in nearly every Best Of / Top 10 List last year, reissue of their classic Turn Up The Punk We'll Be Singing, six months on the road in the US plus two months in the UK and Europe, there's no end in sight. We Are Still Alive will strike a resounding chord with the legions of fans who recognize LATTERMAN's dedication to building something real. "If you think punk's dead / you haven't met our friends / they're always at it again and again" sings Latterman, reaffirming their hope about punk rock and the community it has the power to create. It's this search for a "home where we won't die alone," whether it lie in our hearts, in our hands or within our friends, that's the main theme on LATTERMAN's third record. They "never want to sing these songs alone"...and with all the spirited anthems, thought provoking lyrics and fist-pumping choruses on We Are Still Alive, LATTERMAN doesn't have a thing to worry about. Bands like this don't exist anymore...so wake up, pay attention and feel alive. Cause when they're done, I'm done too.
Customer Reviews:
a modern day classic. oh yeah, that good.......2007-02-21
There are only a handful of albums that you can listen to for weeks on end without getting tired of, and even fewer that you can listen to all the way through without skipping a song here and there. This album is one of those rare masterpieces. If you are at all familiar with Latterman, then you will already know that they have some of the catchiest chourses this side of the Misfits, but even more than that you will find that these songs have so much heart. Every song on this album is bursting with so much feeling that you can't help but find yourself screaming along with it out of pure joy. This is truly one of those albums that will stick with you for years to come and fill you with love and hope upon every listen. Of course this is all just my take on it, but truly these guys are one of the best kept secrets around. Clocking in at just over 30 minutes, it is one listen you will find yourself repeating again and again. Amazing!

Album Description
The rumors are true. DJ Mayonnaise is, indeed, Still Alive. Eight years after the release of his debut--Anticon's inaugural instrumental LP, 55 Stories--Mayo has returned in more ways than one. First, to his hometown of Portland, Maine--where he rediscovered inspiration amongst the dusty vinyl bins and damp seascapes of his youth--and now, to the waiting world with sophomore album in hand. Still Alive is both a fitting follow-up to Stories and a reinvention of sorts. While DJ Mayonnaise is still a master of sample and scratch, he's turned his attention to the art of composition and the subtlety of details. And though Still Alive has its moments of quiet, rainy-day beauty, these serve as counterpoints to a brightness that permeates the songs. Simply put, this album, too, is alive.

Hot on the heels of the speed-metal dandies' first-ever live retrospective, Rude Awakening, comes this most unusual (contract fulfilling?) release. Featuring six previously unreleased live songs captured in November 2001 during what's described as the band's last concerts, Still Alive and Well concludes with an additional six songs lifted wholesale from 2001's The World Needs a Hero, the group's last studio recording. The live tracks ("Time/Use the Man," "Conjuring," "In My Darkest Hour," "Sweating Bullets," "Symphony of Destruction," and "Holy Wars") are up to snuff--fast, bruising, and furious--but of little interest to anyone other than die-hard fans, who doubtless already own The World Needs a Hero. --Kim Hughes

awesome new live songs!.......2007-01-31
the three new live songs, conjuring, time and use the man are worth for it...the conjuring is the best performance by this line up!
Megadeth - 'Still Alive... And Well?' (Sanctuary Records).......2006-03-30
Since I've seen Megadeth perform live something like at least ten times over the years,I've pretty much gotten burned out on them.I'll still take out a CD of theirs time and again for a spin in my CD player.I thought that 'Still Alive...' is pretty much aimed toward the die-hard fans. It's got half live tracks, including "My Darkest Hour","Sweating Bullets","Symphony Of Destruction",the always nice to hear "Holy Wars"+ two more. Then you get six previously unreleased cuts.If you're a real big Megadeth fan, you'll obviously get more out of this CD than I did.Overall,it's decent.
sigh.......2004-07-12
Whatever happened to that raw energy of the 80's???
Don't get me wrong, I dig Dave and the boys. But, I believe old age is catching up. Is it just me, or does his vocals sound worse??? Where's that trademark GROWL?!? Sounds like a little kid with his nose pinched.
I think Marty needs to come back, too!
Peace Sells... but I'm no longer buying.
I'll answer the question: NOT WELL. Not here, anyway........2004-06-15
I'm a huge fan of Megadeth, and have been for a few years; I'd even go as far as saying I'm a completist (I own both the original AND the reissue of KILLING IS MY BUSINESS...). However, this is one Megadeth "album" that I will never waste my money on.
Even more absurd than most so-called "best-of" collections, STILL, ALIVE...AND WELL? is simply pointless. We have several tracks from one of the best albums from one of the best thrash acts ever, THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO, and two--count 'em, TWO--unreleased live tracks. Okay...why?
Indeed, I'll agree with other fans, this COULD have been another HIDDEN TREASURES, but instead it is a waste of money and time.
Trust me, just get THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO and as for the live tracks, you're not missing much. If they're THAT important to you, just look for them as downloads somewhere.
LUCKILY, Megadeth has re-formed, with a new bassist and drummer, and a suprising return of the almighty Chris Poland on guitars. Dave's arm is all better, and he's refreshed...and determined. NEW ALBUM COMING SOON!
Peace.
one of the last albums.......2004-04-27
first of all people that are new to megadeth don't know that hte band split, dave called it quits and released this for a memorial of megadeth not a new album. This albume features recorded songs from there last and I mean last concerts. So it's a great cd if you actually know what it is and why it's an honer to have to a real megadeth fan. Now lets hope dave's solo career is just as good.

Oldie, but Goodie.......2006-08-01
Well, I was not expecting to like this one. Its SO old, and very classic (Rodgers and Hart.) But one good thing about it being Rodgers and Hart, is it has lovely lyrics. Clever and witty on every song. Mark Twains book was done justice I think, but I've never read the book. I would suggest this to classic lovers, and newer Broadway fans who want to hear a`"classic" other than Oklahoma. This is a good one. The other great thing about this CD is you get not only A Connecticut Yankee, but also highlights from two other Rodgers and Hart musicals: Higher and Higher and By Jupiter. AWSOME. Favorite Song: "To Keep My Love Alive"
Once lost, now found and reissued on CD........2005-06-03
One of Decca's earliest cast albums (recorded just a few weeks after their famous OKLAHOMA! album) this very nearly became a lost treasure. Recorded on 16" glass masters in 1943, the original release was on 78 RPMS (complete witha booklet givinga detailed synopsis and all the lyrics.) The revival was not a success and when Long Playing records were introduced in the late 1940s, CONNECTICUT YANKEE was not reissued in the new format.
At one time in the 1960s Decca had the masters transferred to tape for a possible LP reissue. That reissue never happened, and in shipping the discs back to the storage facility, they were broken. The tape was taken from the company's archives and did not turn up until almost 30 years later. Though modern technology could probably have coaxed even better sound from the master discs, we must be thankful that the tape was made when it was.
In the meanwhile there were three unautherized isses of these tracks. A new York based private label called Box Office transferred the 78's to one side of an Lp in the 1970s. Later, AEI released an elaborate gatefold Lp with not only the full score (again dubbed from 78s) but also fabricated some additional tracks reprising some of the songs (in theatrical order) by editing portions from the existing tracks. Finally there was a release on CD from Box Office with horrible sound that stil sometimes turns up for sale. Avoid it. Decca actually sent a request that Box Office withdraw the bootleg Cd.
This edition has much better sound and the bonus tracks by Hildegard and Shirley Ross from BY JUPITER and HIGHER AND HIGHER make the package very worthwhile.
THOU SWELL. THE YANKEE WINS AGAIN!.......2003-02-09
"A Connecticut Yankee," by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers, contains more hit songs than the average Broadway season nowadays. "My Heart Stood," "Still," "Thou Swell" and the redoubtable "To Keep My Love Alive" all sound fresh and vibrant in this fabulously remastered 1943 recording. Particularly wonderful is the total and complete recording of "To Keep My Love Alive," sung by the one great (female) love of the Lyricist's life, Vivienne Segal ... nearly seven minutes of the wittiest ways to do in a husband. This is one of the first "original cast" recordings ever recorded, and it sounds as crisp and clear as a recording made today. Bravo! (Submitted by staff member Stephen J. Finn)
A Lost Gem.......2002-01-17
A wonderful rerelease of glass discs made for the 1943 revival of this charming musical. While the orchestra is less than polished (there is one particular trumpet you can hear over and over that is awful and flat!)--it has a lot of zest to it, and makes one yearn to see the play - indeed, to see more of the Rodgers and Hart shows performed.
Not complete and NOT first CD version.......2001-08-19
This CD collection of tracks from the 1943 revival of the Rodgers & Hart musical is advertised as the first CD presentation of these tracks. This is incorrect. I have a CD issued in 1999 by Box Office Recordings called "A Collector's Rodgers & Hart" which contains all the "Connecticut Yankee" tracks plus 14 additional tracks of Rodgers & Hart covers (different from the covers on the Decca CD).
Worse, I have an AEI LP recording of the revival which has three additional tracks from the show. Why weren't these selections included in this recording?
On the other hand, even the 9 tracks from Connecticut Yankee are worth owning. As a previous reviewer said, just Vivienne Segal's "To Keep My Love Alive" is worth the price of admission!

Still Alive is wonderful song and perfect for crusin' under the sun. The rest of the songs on the CD did not meet the same mark set by Still Alive.
I love Fons' voice.......2005-08-27
I attend church with this young man and I get to see his walk. He is an anointed singer for the Lord, even from when he sung with Spiritual Pieces. Keep it up Fons!
Anointed man of God.......2005-04-01
Haven't heard of this artist before but he is anointed of God and he worships from his heart. Still Alive ministered to me so much because I can look around my life and see that it is not because of who I am or anything that I've done but it is because of God's mercy and grace that I am still alive. Hallelujah!!!
