Two bad songs ruin what would be a great album.......2006-07-03
I'm a big Hellion/Ann Boleyn fan. I have all of their albums, even the many compilations, etc. Before I got Will Not Go Quietly I had a "Fan Club Sampler" CD with 3 of the not-yet-released tracks from the forthcoming CD and liked them all.
I liked Will Not Go Quietly until I got to track 10 called "User 7." This antisemitic, rasict song really bummed me out. I was disappointed in Ann for singing such material, and it's so unnecessary for someone with her talent to put out trash like that. Just turned me off to the whole CD. There is another song that bashed the USA which I also personally didn't care for, but I'm OK with anything political and free speech, if Ann Boleyn hates Americans and sings about the USA in a derogatory way to her European audience that's perfectly acceptable to me. Blatant racism against Jewish people as found on this CD however, does not amuse me and serves no purpose in my opinion.
As an interesting note, I was informed that the U.S. release of this album will not contain either of the two songs I mentioned, one being antisemitic and one anti-American.
Will Not Go Quietly could have been another great album from Hellion and Ann Boleyn, but the lyrical content ruined it for me.
This CD Grows on You.......2004-05-31
This is the kind of CD that grows on you. Ann Boleyn's vocals are the best when it comes to female metal singers. The guitar wirk is great, but I would have liked more solos. I think the guy who wrote the review before me is nutz, because I think there are a lot of similarities between Screams In the Night and Will Not Go Quietly. Same producer, same Chet Thompson, same Ann Boleyn, plus Ray Schenk from the original mile-up.

"Will Not Go Quietly" (there is no "I") is the long-awaited (13 years!) 3rd full-length studio album from HELLION.
It's been a while since I last played "The Black Book", the band's previous album; so I indulged. WHOA! what a difference...
"WNGQ" features 12 songs (11 tracks), most of which are full of energy and enthusiasm; but gone is what, in my opinion, made Hellion an interesting band (have no fear, Ann Boleyn is still there!). The melodies are somewhat too basic, and the "harmonic" guitar work almost absent; the production is somewhat compressed, and Ann's vocals are a bit flat.
There are still a few worthwhile tracks, but nothing that will become a "metal anthem". The last decade offered a number of releases featuring live recordings from the group, as well as a "best of" entitled "Queen Of Hell" released back in 2000; it included a "rough mix" of "Dead And Gone", the final version of which finally surfaces on "WNGQ".
There's plenty of "woomph" and "crunch", some good guitar breaks, but in general, I found the material a bit stale...
The band is now back in the studio, which makes me very, very worried about the next release: the material on "WNGQ" is not particularly original, so I hope they're not rushing into things.
Approach this release with an open mind; we're no longer in "Screams In The Night" or "The Black Book" territory; they sound very different these days...
