Comes packaged in a thick, CD-sized black cardboard box with embossed gold lettering. 1999 release.

Good idea, but too expensive.......2004-03-06

Through the course of their entire career, Van Halen was a rock band that almost never failed to please. As anyone will tell you, a widely-debated topic is who was the better vocalist - David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar. In recent years in Japan, two box sets were released - one for the Roth years, and one for the Hagar years. Read on for my review of the latter box.

PROS:
-As stated above, all of the Sammy Hagar-era Van Halen albums are in this set. This includes the live album.
-The package includes a handy booklet.
-In addition to the things you'd normally expect in a package like this, you get a disc that features two rare bonus tracks!

CONS:
-This set is too expensive. You can buy these albums separately for considerably less. The purpose of box sets like this is to REDUCE the price of a set of albums, not INCREASE it!
-The set wastes some CD space. In some cases, more than one album would have fit on one CD.

OVERALL:
Overall this set is an excellent idea, but I think the record company could have pulled it off a little better. Take my advice and just buy the albums separately. Warner Bros. reissued their albums in America not too long ago, so you should be able to come across them in most stores.

Why would you bother.......2004-02-15

Buy each CD seperately for $10 to $15.
Especially since they've let us down and haven't reunited.
Roth was better anyway.

Van Hagar At It's All Time Best!.......2000-08-02

YOU CAN DEBATE THE FACTS OF WHO WAS THE BETTER VOCALIST IN VAN HALEN, BUT THE TRUTH IS THEY KICKED-ASS WITH SAMMY. SAMMY BROUGHT HIS INCREDIBLE WRITING ABILITY TO AN ALREADY TALENTED BAND AND IF YOU ONLY OWN ONE OR ALL OF THE VAN HALEN MUSIC WITH SAMMY THIS IS A MUST, ESPECIALLY FOR THE COLLECTOR! IF YOU DON'T OWN ANY VAN HAGAR THEN THIS SET IS A MUST HAVE! THE PACKAGING IS AWESOME AND THE PRODUCTION VALUE IS EQUALLY AS GOOD! I AM PERSONALLY A BIGGER FAN OF DIAMOND DAVE, BUT THIS COLLECTION IS A KICK IN THE BEHIND!
