great music, but I can't stand the vocals!.......2004-12-01

This is the only release from Edguy I have heard, so the singer may have improved on newer releases - I don't know... These vocals are just way too goofy for me, and I am pretty lenient! Even the lyrics are questionable, what's with the religious stuff???
Anyway, the music is dead-on, so if you are a fan of Angra or Blind Guardian(two other bands with silly vocals) you will like Edguy!

Incredible work of art, a magnum opus.......2004-01-10

You can't go wrong buying this album. Every song on the album is great and unique. Edguy is a band composed of talented musicians, and the songs are hard evidence. I can't wait for king of fools ep to come out, hope this reviews helps and will lead you to salvation.

Grand.......2003-11-27

Like melodic metal but think some of the stuff might be a little too cheesy for your tastes? Looking for a band that sounds like Iron Maiden without being a rip-off? Edguy probably fits the bill - fast, bombastic metal with melody (no screaming either) and great musicianship but they don't quite stray into the over-the-top territory that make some bands uncomfortable for the average listener. So if you're not a Mighty Warrior of Steel Fighting For Metal Glory, but like metal, check this band out. (If you are the aforementioned type, you probably already like this band!)

My one gripe with Edguy, (and by association, Avantasia) is that they tend to overexaggerate the transitions - there are a number of places where they hold chords for easily twice as long as good tastes mandates and as a result, a musical idea that would have been great as a subtlety is crammed down the listener's throat. That's it - my only gripe. And it's not all over the album, it's just in a few spots.

On the positive side, Tobias Sammet is an AMAZING singer. I can't stress this enough. He rules behind the microphone. Seriously. His vibrato is to die for. And, if the writings in the booklets are any indication, he is a great guy to meet in person. The guitar solos stay more in the hummable-melody area than the show-off shred stuff, although there is plenty of exciting leadwork to be found here. Very symphonic, and the last track is epic. Lyrically this, like most Edguy material, is a questioning of religious conventions and the issue remains mostly unresolved at the end, despite the title track's "positive" sounding final section. And for those who complain that power metal bands take themselves too seriously, let the last track play on after the song ends for a taste of Tobias's goofy sense of humor!

Bottom line, this is great German metal and truly deserves to be compared to the old-time greats. Great music, no ego, great fun, no pretention.

POWER METAL ACTS.......2003-10-27

Edguy rulz!!!!! is one of the finest metal acts in the world, they are very good musicians, all Edguy albums are great, and the new one "Burnin down the Opera" its superb!!!!!!! They are obviously influenced by metal gods Helloween, but who cannot be influenced by such band...????? Listen carefully to any of the Edguy albums, you wont be disapointed........STAY HEAVY!

A stunning effort by Edguy.......2003-07-28

From the Opening chords of Healing Vision to the incredible Theater of Salvation, this album is a complete rocker. It is stylish, clean and melodic rock at its best, the songs are catchy and the riffs hit hard. Major improvement from earlier records, and a sign of what to expect. Its maybe a bit more commercial sound, more mainstream, but sometimes you need to shift focus and look around. Putting some melodies and some more enjoyable music into what you do, can help a lot. And thats what this album does. It perfects a formula, until the part where it becomes a little too clean and on the edge of being too predictable. Thats the only drawback, unlike Mandrake, this album doesnt sound as new and fresh. When thats said, this album more than deserves its 4 stars. Songs like my favorite Land of the Miracle, Falling Down and Theater of Salvation is just awesome, and they are worth the price alone. The rest of the songs are quite good, and no one falls under average, which is quite a result.
Edguy, which becomes better and better for every album, certainly knows how to take their experience to the next level. From the good Vain Glory Opera, to Theater of Salvation, to the fantastic Mandrake, they are met with high expectations for their next studio album.

Theater of Salvation is a very good album. As said, its only flaw is the somehow predictable songs, but that doesnt make them any less good. I always think of Pink Floyd everytime I hear the song Theater of Salvation, and thats as good praise as any band can get, and in a way, Edguy manages to be what they try, a superb Heavy Metal Band, with excellent musicians, solid lyrics, impressive vocals and hard hitting, yet wonderful melodies.

In July of 1991, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles became the first US gay chorus to tour Central Europe, giving performances in Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. Their performances inspired gay pride, liberty, and community in untold numbers of gay men and women there. These experiences were captured in Diversity, an inviting mixture of both popular and innovative songs for men's chorus which resonate with pride and courage. The title track (an original commission which has since become a signature song for the Chorus), works by Ned Rorem, Paul Monette, and Stephen Sondheim create a glowing journey through the magical landscape of the gay experience.

Best male choral ensemble on the west coast!.......2000-02-12

I know this is GMCLA's first recording, but unlike most first attempts, this one is a superior collection of songs. From the incredible piano accompanament of "Canto de Esperanza" to the warm choral sound of "Ave Maria", these guys are professionals all the way. You'll love their rendition of "Family" from the Broadway hit "Dreamgirls". The beautiful "Somewhere" medley combines "Over the Rainbow" from "The Wizard of OZ", "Somewhere" from "West Side Story" and "Somewhere out There" from Disney's "An American Tail". Definitely a CD you can enjoy over and over again!

The best "Helloween clone" money can buy........2003-02-11

Edguy could probably be accused of being very derivative at times, namely of Helloween, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius and others,.It can be said that Edguy have such catchy and memorable songs, that they transcend any notion of being derivative. In fact, they have such a knack (or mainman Tobias does) of writing such good songs they are nearly better than any of those bands.
Helloween clone? Well, I want to say it sounds very similar to Keepers Helloween, but more developed and more Symphonic. Edguy don't always have the speed often displayed on Gamma Ray albums, and they sometimes opt for a Stratovariusesque mid ranged tempo songwriting style. I would say I like them 100 times better than Stratovarius though, and part of this can be attributed to Edguy's singer.
Tobias Sammett sounds a lot like Bruce Dickinson, but has more range and control that is almost more in line with someone like Geoff Tate. In a word, awesome! The best singer around today that is!
Edguy are my favorite post 80's power metal band, bar none, and put on a schorching performance at Prog Power. Its weird when a band almost outshines their (obvious) influences, but this is definitely a case of that. Highly recommended to any fan of melodic metal. And I secretly wish I could have Tobias as vocalist for my own band someday!

Excellent German power metal.......1999-10-03

Edguy is right up there with Gamma Ray, Helloween, Running Wild, and Stratovarius. The lead singer sounds very much like Bruce Dickinson, with that big operatic style that made Iron Maiden famous. Musically, these guys are most similar to Stratovarius, with the occassional harpsichord and very fast rhythm guitars making some songs sound like they could have come from Stratovarius's Visions disc.

The only downside of this album is the ballads, which are mighty sappy and sound a bit too close to the theme music from Cheers.

Complimenti a questa band tedesca. Se vi piace il genere speedpower vi consiglio vivamente questo album.Un grande ritmo,veloce,potente,diverse parti corali a supportare l'ottima voce di Tobias Sammet(a tratti ricorda Bruce Dickinson). La qualità dell'album è eccellente dall'inizio alla fine,ma volendo citare due brani direi "Babylon" e il lento "Another time".

Best Power Metal ablum ever.......1999-07-21

A friend picked this CD up for me in Germany... I listened to it and right when the song Babylong kicked in I knew that the whole album would rock. After listening to the whole thing I can honestly say that EDGUY is the best power metal band I have ever heard... no filler songs on this CD. Babylon, Wake up the King, Falling Down, and Theater of Salvation are probably the best songs of the CD, but the rest are very good as well. The 2 ballads on this CD don't compare to Scarlet Rose off of Vain Glory Opera, but the fast songs are better then anything of VGO. Buy this CD if you love Helloween, Stratovarious, Blind Guardian or Iron Maiden. You will be very happy you did.

An album of unprecidented power........1999-04-02

If you like German Power metal, eg (Helloween, Manowar) you'll like Edguy! Going through The songs on this album (for the mostpart)they rock! "Babylon" is fast paced, yet diverse. The heavy classical element shows very well in this song. I listened to this album, and the first thing I said was, "These guys can sing!" Full vocal harminozation impressed me greatly! "Land of the Miracle" was one of the best power ballads I've heard in a LONG time. Their keyboard player is very good, as well as strong guitarists, and a heavy deep bass. The vocals are especially strong, the lead singer has a pleasant voice. I highly highly recommend this album! All the songs are strong written, and highly enjoyable from a progressive metal point of view!

Amazing brass playing.......2002-09-30

There is only one word to describe the playing of this ensemble, AMAZING! Several players from the Chicago area come together to create this fine recording. The tracks that mainly got me hooked on this CD were the Funeral March by Grieg and the Susato Dances. The ensemble is the most balanced that one will find, and they create the perfect organ-like effect. All I can really say is that I highly recommend this CD.

Spirit Lifting and Soul Moving.......2004-12-24

I picked up this CD by accident. To much of my surprise, I was so moved from the very first song, until the last note of the CD. It not only makes me wanting to listen to it over and over again, it makes me to sing along with some of the songs. Irish blessings is a great song, and the chorus makes it even a better song. I highly recommend this CD.
