These guys deserve to be heard.......2003-11-01
When I listen to heavy music I tend to like it really heavy and really dark. Along the lines of black metal and death metal. It takes a lot for a band that's not that heavy and not that dark to impress me with it's vibe and energy. These guys achieved that and more. Songs like "Type A Male" build and maintain a killer groove that makes you want to listen for the pay-off at the end of the song. And songs like "Alseep At The Wheel" more than deliver when the pay-off comes around. You pretty much wait through the whole song for the blast beat to kick in under the chorus because they tease you with it, doing an off-time rest that tracks perfectly with the guitar line. Then around 3:02 into the song the chorus gets it's blast beat and if you aren't at least nodding your head to it there must be something wrong with your neck. The CD is full of surprising twists and the excellent rhythm section really shines through in most of the tracks. This is one of the few expensive cds I'd say are worth the cost.
finally someone who kicks ..........2003-08-06
it's been very rare in the past 10 or so years that a band really rock me - these guys do it
to me, it sounds like a combination of the post punk of bauhaus, killing joke, wire, gang of four with the assault and thickness of melvins, early nirvana and shellac
ches smith's drumming crushes
alex newport's guitar playing switches back and forth between minimal dissonant antifunk and pure metallic sludge while his vocals make me think maybe this is what robert smith would sound like if he had balls
buy this - you won't be disappointed
and if you ever get the chance, see them live
and don't forget your earplugs
