Addled, staggering, bleary-eyed, wired: that's how Buried Alive: New Barbariand Live in Marylan sounds. It's the band's charm, the reason this recoding has been long sought in bootleg form. And the irony of the New Barbarians' 1979 tour should be lost on no one. Keith Richards's sentence for his 1977 heroin and cocaine bust in Toronto was two days of charity work. What'd he do? He got his guitar-slinging partner from the Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood, to bring this ad hoc band--boasting himself and Richards on guitars, Ziggy Modeliste on drums, Ian McLagan on keys, and Stanley Clarke on bass--to play two dates for the Canadian Institute for the Blind. Describing how the band warmed up for the tour, the unnamed liner notician for this long-sought set writes that "[m]ost days rehearsals went on until the drugs ran out." So penance for the drug bust came in the form of a gig by a band who rehearsed until they couldn't get high anymore. As for the New Barbarians' tunes, they're ramshackle and shouted and bellowed and brilliant. The sound on these discs is remarkable, blurry only to the point you'd expect, given the sodden nature of the band members. --Andrew Bartlett

1 out of 5 stars not what you remember from 1979.......2007-04-22

I saw this tour the night it hit San Diego in May of '79. That was a fantastic show. The band was loosely tight, and the vocals were solid. Keith was magnificent that night. Not true about this show at the Capital Centre in Largo, Maryland. This would be bad even if it were a bootleg.. Maybe it's just the Cap Centre. I saw the Stones there in 1975 and that was not great either, and every other time I've seen them (37 times and counting) the've bested that performance. This release is a drag because the New Barbarians were a really good show, just not at this or the Ottawa shows.

3 out of 5 stars If you saw a New Barbarians show, you'll probably like this.......2007-03-17

First of all, this album is not for every Stones/Faces fan or the faint of heart. To say the vocals are rough is an understatement. Much as I love Ronnie Wood as a guitarist, his voice is another matter. And sorry Keith, you're also one of the best, but vocally, not much help. But as a live event, the shows on this tour were highly enjoyable. Saw them in Pittsburgh within days of the Maryland show captured here, and have many fond memories. The band was excellent; everybody seemed very relaxed and having a good time. It hardly mattered that the singing was bad. There was a Faces' kind of atmosphere with the emphasis on rocking, not perfectionism. Kind of hit or miss, maybe, but overall it satisfied. Although it doesn't compare to the live experience, the album brings back fond memories, and has its finer moments. Stanley Clarke's solo on the second disc is phenomenal, and when he sings in a Dylan-mode as on Seven Days, Ronnie is actually quite effective. Unfortunately, he doesn't fare quite so well in an R&B style. Overall, if you can hack the shortcomings, this album is a good souvenir of a fun little tour.

1 out of 5 stars sound's of barbarians.......2007-03-08

the sound of this record is very bad, musicians plays not well, just Stanley Clarke is playing well...

5 out of 5 stars Old-timers will love it, new kids might not. .......2007-02-24

I think for those of us who remember the late 70s as the last period of true genius for Keef Riff Hard and his twin brother Ronnie Wood, this release is long overdue. I've passed on bootlegs of this for years waiting for the official release to come out. There was a lot of buzz about these shows in the late 70s. So for us old-timers there is serious nostalgia going on with this release. The riffs and licks on this CD are Keith and Ronnie at their sloppy drunk best. Truely hard core rock and roll for the time. Not missing Jagger one bit. This CD is worth every penny of the $30 I spent.

As a serious guitar player for 25+ years who has played in several bands, I love the way Woody and Keith play guitar. I buy all their solo albums just to hear their unique styles and riffs. Keith's riffs in open tunings are something to admire. You really have to play a lot to play like that in open tunings with such ease and to make up such cool sounding riffs. Ronnie is just a great standard tuning player who plays a mean slide as well. I realize songwriting, lyrics and choir boy vocals are not their forte. It's the riffs and unadulterated rock and roll that gets me going. If that's not your bag, tune into "American Idol" or "Making the Band".

One reviewer here opined that Brian Jones and Mick Taylor were better guitarists. In my opinion, they are different guitarists. Woody is no slouch. Taylor was a great virtuoso and I loved his long guitar solos on the Stones tours and bootlegs of the early 70s. He's more like Clapton in that way. Ron Wood, of course is more like Keith Richards in that he is one of the great rock masters of hooks, riffs and fills. Brian Jones was a terrific and under rated blues guitarist for his time who could learn to play any instrument in short time. Genius in that regard. But I'd have to say Ron Wood has proven to be better in his time than Jones.

Recommendation: If you love the way Keith and Ronnie play guitar, this is a must have CD. If you simply want some insight into Stones history in the late 70s, you might like this CD. If you remember these shows and this time, it may be a nice trip down memory lane and worth the purchase price just for that. If you have to hear Jagger and must have a big production and 20 piece band with back up singers like they have done on recent tours then stay away from this CD. You would be better off with the cheesy live Licks CD from the 2002-3 tour.

2 out of 5 stars DON'T - BLEEP! - YOUR MONEY AWAY AS I DID.......2007-01-27

Despite just loving the song, "Stay With Me," I only hope that I'm permitted to live long enough to know of someone going up to Ron Wood, taking his guitar away from him (hopefully by force) and saying, "Now, Woody, you jus' go'n grow some mold or something." This thing is EL-SUCKO. True, I will purchase most anything that has Keith Richards on it - WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THAT GUNK W/"U2" - and, as a pretty decent bass player myself, it is my humble opinion that Stanley Clarke is second ONLY to Jaco. But even THEIR presense makes one opine, "They don't contribute enuf to this thing t' make it worth it, the effort involved in just drowning out the unmitigated noise that R Wood regurgitates on this thing." Said it before, and I'll say it again: KEEF NEEDS A >BLONDE < GUITARIST to bounce off of and work with: dig - Brian Jones...Mick Taylor...and "recently," Wino-Waddy Wachtel.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Blues!.......2007-03-09

I have not listened to a lot of blues in my lifetime, but I LOVE this CD. The artists' talents are so apparent and the music so catchy. I actually bought this as a gift because I loved my copy so much.

5 out of 5 stars Great Chicago blues sounds.......2007-01-22

This is a great CD and DVD, especially the title track. Anyone with half an interest in Chicago blues must own.

5 out of 5 stars RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "PLEASE RECORD ANOTHER CD BEFORE YOU GO!".......2007-01-11

This is a pure 5 star rating. Every song is good to great. A STRONG HELPFUL HINT: "Listen to the CD in full first, then watch the DVD." This is a fun, CD. What I mean by that is you can tell how much these aging veterans enjoy, reawaking the ghosts of the blues. It's also obvious they enjoy each other's company. The songs range from romping electric guitar, to "cooking" harp play by Corky. One song that is different from normal a Chicago Blues song is #3 "Walk Away" by Tracy Nelson. This is a ballad that you will play for your friends, because there is no female voice portrayed so powerfully, this side of an Italian opera singer. All I could tell my friends, is that Tracy has the type of voice, that should have sung the National Anthem on national TV, at the first baseball game played in New York after 9/11! This whole CD is a gas. With all the above being said, after listening to the entire CD, and only after! Watch the DVD. You can see not only how much all these people enjoy each other, but you will be given a lesson in the history of the Chicago Blues, all the way back to Muddy Waters. Interspersed between this historical lesson, are video portions of the CD (If you obediently listened to Rick "Shaq" Goldstein's genius instructions earlier in this review!) and you get to see first hand, what you only imagined while you were tapping your feet during the CD. The boys and gal in this reunion group are getting up in years, and I sure hope they have the foresight and desire to record at least one more of these classics, before it's too late, in the immediate future. I went to the Monterey Jazz Festival in June 2006 to see them, and Nick hobbled out in very bad shape, and they only played a few short songs. (Also, unfortunately, they had mike problems when Tracy performed "Walk Away", thus making the people near me in the stands, wonder what I was bracing them for. THREE FINAL CLOSING POINTS: 1. Buy this CD/DVD package. 2. Watch the CD and then the DVD as Shaq recommends. 3. To the Chicago Blues Reunion; please record another session now!

4 out of 5 stars Blues For The Lost Days.......2006-06-03

Well, I've heard the music, watched the DVD, and read the reviews and after doing so am slightly amused by the somewhat overwrought enthusiasm for Buried Alive In The Blues. Sure, I like the music and enjoy the commentary, but this CD is more nostalgia and an affirmation of a musical style than a bold statement.
We're all going to get old if we're lucky and at some point we are not going to be as good as we once were. And while it is a pleasure to see and hear these guys again, that truth will be brought starkly home to those who really remember how they were in the old days. The crown princes of white Chicago blues, Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield, are long gone. So what we are left with are a few core musicians like Nick Gravenites, Sam Lay and Corky Siegel, and those on the periphery like Harvey Mandel, Barry Goldberg, and Tracy Nelson who are more remembered for their days in San Francisco (in the case of Nelson, Nashville as well) than their time in Chicago. And none sound at all like they did in their heydays.
If you remember and love the Born In Chicago of Paul Butterfield's first album or the Drinkin' Wine of the Electric Flag's Long Time Comin' album, you will hear precisely what I mean. But what the musicians lack of the old intensity is made up for by their obvious enthusiasm. Some of the old fire is still apparent throughout, but my favorites are the Canned Heat-style GM Boogie, the smoky languor of Nick Gravenites' Left Handed Soul, Gravenites' Death of Muddy Waters, the swinging I've Gotta Find My Baby, a supercharged rendition of Harvey Mandel's old pseudopsychedelic classic Snake, and the concluding medley of old rock tunes featuring delightful vocals by Sam Lay. One I didn't like is New Truck, which is more of a redneck Top 40 country type song than it is blues. One of the reviewers mentioned it has been replaced on tour by Memphis Slim's Mother Earth. I'd rather have heard that here.
As enjoyable as the CD can be at times, the real gem is the DVD. Here, interviews with blues musicians and historians are interspersed with music clips of some of the Chicago Blues Reunion members playing with their old bands and more importantly with the old masters. Some of the best historical sketches are provided by BB King, Buddy Guy and Nick Gravenites. You see Butterfield, Bloomfield, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and others who were so important to the Chicago blues scene and find out how the white boys from the north side went to the black clubs of the south and west sides to learn the blues and refine their skills at the feet of the masters. One reviewer sneered that the Northside blues explosion only lasted a few years, and that is true, but its the nationwide blues mania that followed when the cream of Chicago's white bluesmen took their music to San Francisco that makes those couple of years so important. Music historians and critics still go on today about the Summer of Love and the San Francisco Sound. How long did that last? The point is, its not the length of an era but its legacy that counts.
I give Buried Alive In the Blues 3 and 1/2 stars for the music and 4 and 1/2 for the history lesson. I bought one labeled "Collector's Edition", its a shame that it contains no informative booklet with pictures and only cursory notes on the back cover. Had John Mayall not already called one of his albums Blues For the Lost Days, that would have been the perfect title for this set. If you have a taste for blues Chicago-style and remember how it used to be, then you should find this set to be a treat worth savoring.

5 out of 5 stars back to the sixties.......2005-11-19

The music on the cd is great, but the real value lies in the dvd, which takes you back to the development of the 60's "white" chicago blues scene with actual footage of icons like Muddy Waters and Mike Bloomfield (with The Electric Flag). All the musicians are interviewed at length, and there are great comments from B.B.King and Buddy Guy. The dvd is actually good enough to be shown as a documentary on public television, and it also includes "concert" footage of about half the songs featured on the cd.
Nick Gravenites and Tracy Nelson both look a little worn out by time, but they sound great, and the added attactions of barry goldberg , corky siegel and harvey mandel comprise an all star band. a guest vocal appearance by Sam Lay was a nice touch.
both the cd and the dvd exceed expectations

In contemporary rap, incarceration pays. Get locked up, and your aura grows--you soon become a 'hood economist, legendary and independently wealthy. When word leaked out that Shyne was negotiating multimillion-dollar record contracts from inside the big house, his fan base grew exponentially. It doesn't matter that his self-titled debut was only so-so. Rather than take the obvious bait and dis alleged snitch P Diddy across these 13 tracks, he instead goes after media darling 50 Cent. Phoning in his verses (literally) on "For the Record," he charges that 50 is a snitch and studio thug. Now that's gangsta. There are a few hidden gems here among the rehashed beats and songs. Kanye West continues to make everyone sound good; his brooding, string-laden soundscape on "More or Less" perfectly matches Shyne's gothic vocal tone and declarations: "hip-hop ain't responsible for violence in America/America's responsible for violence in America." Beat baron Just Blaze does his part on "Diamonds and Mac 10's," but most of the record is filled with muddy production. Nothing here matches the appeal of his debut's "Bad Boyz" collaboration with Barrington Levy, but this is still a timely, topical release. --Dalton Higgins

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Its alright (3 and 1/2 stars).......2007-06-13

You've got to admit that Shyne has been through a lot. When he first came in the game he was accused of being a B.I.G. clone so much that Biggie fanatics like Lil Kim(yeah this Michael Jackson lookalike is in position to talk about somebody LOL!) took shots at him in songs and reviews. After shooting up a club for an acne-faced weasel who would later turn his back on him, he gets jailed and does this album. The main problem with the album is not necessarily Shyne but the production. Quasi O G which samples Bob Marley's No More Trouble is an excellent track and I'll give Shyne some credit for talking about something of substance. The Kanye West produced More Or Less is a certified banger with Shyne spitting his best verses. We all know Behind The Walls was Kurupt song from the Oz soundtrack but the East Coast Gangsta mix is just a good and even though the song Shyne was on Swizz Beats' Ghetto Stories, I'll count it as a standout track. Shyne rips Fiddy a new one on For The Record(recorded while he was in jail) and Martyr is one of the best songs on here. Unfortunatly it goes down hill from there. Jimmy Choo is a halfhearted attempt at a club record with lifeless vocals from Ashanti on the chorus. Songs like Godfather and Edge are boring as Shyne spits uninspired rhymes over uninspired beats(I dont blame him fully I blame the producers too). The Gang is another lukewarm joint where Foxy Brown busts the only noteworthy verse on the song(she ripped it!). The Just Blaze produced tracks, Here With Me and Diamonds And Mack10's range from boring to horrendous plus those beats sound like leftovers from some Fabolous album. Bottom Line: GodFather Buried Alive is not the best that a rapper like Shyne can offer. The first six songs proved that if you put him over a dope beat he goes off. But the last six songs show that if you put him over an uninspired beat his raps will be as uninspired as the beat. All in all I would recommend it just be prepared to bump into everything I said.

4 out of 5 stars Godfather Buried Alive.......2006-02-18

Shyne Po has been manifesting lasting warfare memories long before droning gavel knockings set the prelude to his conviction. Although 2009 dates his prison release, Godfather Buried Alive not only provides answers for today, but stirs echoes of gangster classics past. Shyne radiates a newer street persuasion in the mafia epic; he sweeps up all lingering street savagery and combines it in an untamed version of a Brooklyn Scarface.

Not to be confused, Godfather... isn't gory as it is ruthless. Shyne callously rides into the sunset beginning with the Kanye West produced "More or Less," a drugstore cowboy cinematic revue, injected with Western whistles that screams modern day Clint Eastwood. Shyne's vigilant Wild West renegade arrives back at his locale, revisiting enemies that are soon to suffocate in his vengeance. As Foxy ignites a chorus behind Shyne's walk in fire, his flow breeds volatility unbridled in tenacity and tirade, "G is a G, a key is a key, a snitch is a fish, with no fins, they cant swim and I dump `em in the river." In another combo, "The Gang," the two surprise by co-signing their own hot Brooklyn signatures to the `95 Raekwon-Nas classic "Verbal Intercourse".

In fact, Godfather... is more about a by-product of Shyne's tumultuous brainstorming activity behind bars. He successfully composes intelligently twisted prison rhymes that instantly jump right off the paper. While Shyne refers to "talking about the life that's mine," his lyrical ability is unleashed in "Godfather," a devious New York City track driven by sinister strings and creaky violins. While some gangster rappers limp through illustrations of aggression and anger, Shyne expands to extended levels of mutilation and indecency, breathing wisps of vivid imagery into his own street story; "My minds poison, corrupted in disease, 360 keys, money make the world spin, I make your chest smoke, have your mother singing hymns, particles in your brains up on your timbs."

Longtime producer extraordinaire BucWild lays out Bob Marley's "No More Trouble" sample in "Quasi OG," a munificent track that leans towards Shyne's conscious side, revealing a recognition of hip-hop's lack of a political eye. From capitalism to conspiracy theory, Shyne acknowledges the dark social spectrum that looms over the direction of Black-American youth and his prison brethren. Another notable is the dramatic "Diamonds and Mac 10s," a Just Blaze produced track that is skillfully set in two tones: one of an emotive Shyne "dying and cryin' inside," pleading to God in redemptive calling for refuge and acceptance; the other is the opposite side of the prison wall healing worlds with exaltation, triumph and hope, discernible by big blasting trumpets and horns.

Not to his discredit, Shyne lays victim to a weaker side of production. "Shyne," an otherwise pop track in chorus and verse, is left embarrassingly unblessed by Swiss Beatz's humdrum claps, deadbeat bassline, and equally depressive weeping violin loop. "Jimmy Choo" is a similarly unsuccessful track that follows the same R&B formula as Shyne's previous hit "Bonnie and Shyne," but marginally lacks originality and the kick that even songstress Ashanti cannot save. Poorly laced with Murder Inc. dinky electronica disinherits any incidental chemistry between the two artists, thus making the track more suitable for a remix. "For the Record," is a response to the 50 Cent threat recorded through DAT, but the result is minimal (i.e. Canibus vs. LL) and less controversial than once initially regarded.

However, as Godfather... commits to a deeper truth, Shyne's catbird seat is high outside of Clinton Correctional Facility. He never shrouds his personal funeral hymns in anything but the darkest and most candid form of gangster-ism; appreciation of this amongst peers in the industry is widespread, but is soon met with the realization that that one of today's best is behind bars.

Album Description

ANGLAGARD is probably the first band of the Nineties to have become a legend of Progressive rock, and to have been considered at the same level as the Seventies giants. And this didn't happen by chance ! It's probably one of the best Swedish bands, and constitutes a dark counterpart to the resolutely optimistic THE FLOWER KINGS. Now mythical, this line-up unfortunately split-up, because the musicians thought they had said everything they had to say musically speaking. Its fast-track career was however built "Only" on two incredible albums ("Hybris" in 1993 and "Epilog" the following year) and some memorable tours. We'll just mention two simply huge stage performances at the 1993 and 1994 editions of the most famous modern festival dedicated to this forgotten style, the Los Angeles ProgFest. "Buried Alive" is an album that was issued after the split-up and that consists of the almost complete show there, (About) one hour fifteen minutes of 100% instrumental and breathtaking music ! Let's just say that the audience could feel privileged to witness such a memorable moment… And this shows on the album ! The art of ANGLAGARD can be characterized by a touch of GENESIS-like arpeggios, YES-like virtuosity, some soft flute melodies, a few bits of local folk, sudden Mellotron apparitions and unexpected, violent KING CRIMSON-like moments (Always beautifully controlled and performed). All of this also shows a paradoxically well defined personality mainly due to its quite Scandinavian and immediately recognizable melancholy. Add to this a perfect, not at all show-off musical interpretation that is subservient to the compositional skills and you can get the picture. The compositions themselves develop mostly with instrumental tracks that include sudden but always melodical rhythm changes. If ANGLAGARD had appeared twenty years ago, we could think that they could be equals to the bands that they acknowledge as influences: first KING CRIMSON, but also GENESIS and YES. How strange ! It's then not surprising that those six musicians have now managed to influence a lot of other groups such as their compatriots ANEKDOTEN, LANDBERK, BOOK OF HOURS and SINKADUS (But also DEADWOOD FOREST in the United States of America and NeBeLNeST in France). You should then (Re)-discover the only available live album by ANGLAGARD: it will probably blow up your pre-conceived values about Progressive rock !...

4 out of 5 stars Some pleasant surprises...a few disappointments..........2007-03-28

I actually steered clear of Anglagard and groups like them for a long time because their music has so frequently been characterized as "dark and brooding". (Plus their only two studio cd's are hard-to-find and expensive!) On this more affordable and accessible "farewell concert" recorded in 1994 in Los Angeles, I was surprised to find a lot of beautiful mellotron and flute passages (ala early Genesis) permeating their music, punctuated by bombastic angular outbreaks of polyphonic virtuosity (reminiscent of King Crimson and Yes). To me, their overall sound comes closest to Cathedral's "Stained Glass Stories". The vocals are sung in Swedish - not the group's best feature - but they only show up sporadically in a few songs, so no big deal. Other than the flute, there really is not much dominant soloing; instead, the group relies on a strong interplay among all instruments. The heavy Chris Squire-like bass is a real treat, and the drums are excellent. Unfortunately, some of the keyboard passages are mixed rather quietly here - I found the first four minutes of this cd almost tiresome.

I like this album, as uneven as it is in spots. You get all four songs from their studio debut "Hybris", plus three from the follow-up "Epilog". Probably not as clean as the studio versions, but well-done nevertheless.

Ideally, I like my prog a bit more on the melodic side, and with more vocal harmonies. But this is a very good complement to that style of prog, and proves very exciting in places; doesn't strike me as all that "dark and brooding" either! It was probably very fresh sounding when the band first came out in the early 90's; I question the near-cult status that many reviewers of their music attribute to them. There have been many, many bands both past and present with comparable playing and songwriting skills. But I have no trouble recommending this album as a worthy addition to your prog collection.

I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:
Music quality = 8.7/10; Performance = 8.8/10; Production = 7/10; CD length = 10/10.
Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 8.6 ("4 stars")

4 out of 5 stars Great performance.......2006-10-22

Since this seems to be the only disc available by these folks, without having to pay a fortune anyway, I thought I'd give it a shot. And I'm not disappointed. It's probably fortunate that I've only heard one studio version of the tracks performed, "Jordrok" (I swear I'm adicted to this song!!!) I say that because many times live renditions are quite anemic compared to their studio counterparts. But the tracks are very well performed, the band sounding quite tight. My only complaints are the first two tracks being so quiet (the levels set low.) The crowd almost drowns out the opener "Prolog," which could be due to the microphone placements. This is rectified on later tracks, where you may find yourself dialing- down the volume knob. But the sound quality is good. A little bass- heavy at times and the guitar gets somewhat buried in the mix (why do they always do that to us?) But overall a very pleasing sound, the MELLOTRON coming through quite well as well as the flute. And the drums.... I know there are some comparisons to Bill Bruford concerning other drummers, but Mattias Olsson comes closer to capturing the Bruford style and "sound" than anyone I've heard. Very talented and somewhat young at the time. And that brings me to another point.... I have to keep reminding myself that this was recorded in the 90's. It has a very 70's sound and atmosphere, which is awesome in my book. The vocals, as mentioned, are somewhat sub- par and it would be nice if the lyrics were in English, but I'm here for the music, which is outstanding. So don't let my petty gripes deter you, purchase on, Brothers ( and sisters!)

3 out of 5 stars be careful.......2006-04-14

If your'e a fan of Crimson, you would like it, it might even bring some nostalgies to you. If you want something more than that, you might as well pass it. Technically speaking they do well, apart from the singing, but it is too predictable.

This group has generally been all too overrated by the progscene and the reviewers. Yes, it is good, ok, no big problem, but not SO good. Basically all the compositions is based on a single idea, and when you have heard the dark mellotrone sound, sometimes accompanied by a flute, piercing through the structure of every little tune you get somewhat bored. The singing, when such occurs which isn't too often, is just awful, so try check the instrumental tracks.

If you insist to buy an Anglagard recording mind that basically all their three works sound pretty much the same so you might be well of with just one of them.

5 out of 5 stars To the first / initial reviewer.......2007-04-25

Personally, I love this CD... Scott Vogel's originating voice was amazingly powerful. He had more balls than Jasta ever has and ever will!! The fact that the music is so tight is another plus, however if you scan through the CD listening to only the first few seconds of each song, you will notice that they all pretty much start with an open D chord... which I find hillarious but I still love it. (To the first reviewer of this album) Dude who really buys CD's anymore anyway? If you're not technologically educated I suppose I could understand but.... you posted a review so I'd think you are at least enough to not have to buy CD's. One last thing, I know much of what they were doing had been done before.... but dude who really cares? They do it BETTER in the fact that their sound actually has BALLS!!

5 out of 5 stars WAY BETTER THAN TERROR.......2006-04-07

Buried Alive, one of the greatest hardcore bands from Buffalo, NY, also the home for such bands as Goo Goo dolls, Slugfest, Despair, Dead To the World, Snapcase, Infamous, Dead Hearts, No Time Left, The Fallen, and others. Given the fact that Buffalo is one of the toughest (and nicest) city to live in, the root of Buried Alive is easily accounted for. This CD is, without doubt, better than two Terror CDs. If you want the perfection, this CD is the answer because it possesses the outstanding combination of speed, heaviness, toughness, breakdowns, and integrity. People tend to compare them to Madball, but they are musically different. Madball is a pure NYHC which nobody can imitate. Anyway, Buried Alive's live was also phenomenal as I had witnessed several times. The band was one of the few and far between bands that can entertain audiances to full extent. I wish they would be back together again.

    5 out of 5 stars Nonstop.......2003-05-03

The vocals, the guitars, the speed, the breakdowns...all perfect. Buried Alive were one of my favorite hardcore bands. Of course, like all hardcore bands, they break up. Scott has re-emerged with Terror, which is a pretty decent continuation of Buried Alive, but the lyrics are way too simple and repetitive. Anyway, this CD is anger and energy, just what you need from your hardcore heroes. Amen.

    3 out of 5 stars maybe..........2000-11-18

if this cd was as good as they are live, but no. it is good, but they only redeemable thing i that jamey jasta (hatebreed) is on it.

4 out of 5 stars Another great Victory release!.......2000-09-29

Victory Records delivers... yet again. Buried Alive is yet another great hardcore band from Buffalo NY. If you like Victory youll like this release. STRAIGHTEDGE FOREVER!
