Based on Somerset Maugham's middling novel Theater, Annette Bening stars as the title character, an aging star of the London stage whose life and the melodramas she performs have come to mirror each other. Composer Mychael Danna sets those conflicts to a score that emphasizes theatrical surfaces and rigid role-playing, utilizing a finely honed classical pastiche approach with parallels to his previous period-evoking work on Vanity Fair. His cues here are rooted in the light romantic chamber music of the 19th century, though they frequently bristle with a more contemporary energy and aplomb. Offering counterpoint to Danna's dignified, oft-precious classical confections and mining the story's more sensual human dimensions are pop chestnuts from the era (The Andrews Sisters' saucy "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon" and Mills Brothers' jaunty "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries"), as well as fine contemporary takes of "They Didn't Believe Me" and Noel Coward's "Mad About the Boy" by Denzel Sinclair and Alison Jicar's elegant read of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." --Jerry McCulley

Being Julia OST has a beautiful main melody which occurs over and over again throughout the tracks. I especially like "Curtain Up" and "Quite Alone". However, Being Julia OST doesn't have other strong melody to show along side with the main melody which seems a little too simple for a complete album. The movie is great too. Annette Bening's performance is outstanding.

      This listing does not tell you that this version is totally remixed. It's still a good album if you like black metal and some industrial effects added in. The ORIGINAL version IS BETTER!

      Don't even bother with reisues of this album. It is not metal. It is industrial. If you like industrial then you will really like this album. If you're looking for one of the greatest black metal albums ever, search a record store in Norway. This isn't it.

        As we all know, this release of "In Times Before The Light" is a re-issued version of the original recording. The original version of this album is incredible. I am lucky enough to own a copy. The reason they re-issued the album is because they shared the same name as a band from Sweden. Beacuase of this they were forced to change their name to The Kovenant. After the name changed, unfortunately so did the bands sound. This not being a good change at all. If you do ever get to hear / own a copy of the original Black Metal version, listen to that rather than this. As another reviewer stated, the whole atmoshpere of the original recording has been lost. The album doesn't feel the same.

        I stumbled across this band largely by accident, and am a fan of the genre. On the whole, the album is generally good. So why the low marks? The songs are well constructed on this album and the guitar work is generally less redundant than that of the band's more recent releases. The feature to this album though is indefinately the eerie aura that the infectious keyboard melodies contribute to the album. While the album is well constructed its achilles heel is the production. Specifically the guitar and drums. What happened? The beat is great and the guitars are searing, however, the mix on this album is extremely poor and the guitar and drums sound as though they are constantly playing through transistor radio. Parting shot, the album is well written and the songs are good but the poor production makes the album seem lack luster and somewhat disappointing.

        once again, Nagash (or lex icon as i say) destroyed one of my most all-time favorite release of this album.

        i HAVE the original version and i love it....until then he screwed this remix (or reissued?) up. they need to get rid of that lady from COF, i don't like her. this album sounds so corny, it's not even funny. they removed the darkest parts of all the songs anr replaced it with gay BOUNCY BEAT keyboards.

        if you want the original version, you better try hard, cuz i'm not sure if you can still find it. you'll most likely find this crap in stores. but get the original version. it's way better, believe me

        No cd on earth can be found that can compare to this. None can be so thought invoking. Great album, great lyrics, great riffs, great everything. I've come up with a lot of my philosophical theories while listening to this album.

        As Lex Icon says in the liner, "This album is not representative for the music we do today but its a good way to experience the band in its dark adolescence." Its a good cd on its own. Just don't expect another Animatronics or you might be disappointed. It stands on its own.
