5 out of 5 stars Great...like all their CD's.......2006-07-07

These songs were co-produced by Josh Homme, and recorded right after the release of "The Action is Go," Fu's best CD in my opinion, and these songs are just an extension of that CD. Buy it--you won't be sorry.

Included are an early demo of "Mongoose," a track later refined and polished for "California Crossing," and a cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla," one of the greatest hard rock songs of the 70's. The other tracks are vintage Fu.

I love this band's music so much...I have everything they've ever done. I just ordered "Start the Machine" which is their newest release (2004?)...I haven't heard it yet, but I'm sure it's a winner, too. Unfortunately, the guys are getting older, and their sound has begun to change. There are a few songs on Crossing that I don't really care for, but from 1990 up until the release of "King of the Road," this band scorched the amps, tore holes in the drum skins, and left guitar strings in a ball of metallic twine. No one rocked the 90's as hard or as stoned as these guys. Get everything they released before "California Crossing," including Action, "In search Of...," "King of the Road," "Daredevil" and their first CD, "No One Rides for Free." All of them are 5 Stars in my opinion.

4 out of 5 stars Love it! .......2004-12-23

I have the recently re-issued copy of this with the alternate cover. I had read some reviews about the original release that weren't all that encouraging. But being a big Fu fan, and seeing how this album was hard to get for a while, I went for it. IMO the band sounds more raw and punishing. Kind of like they just went for it in the studio. Don't know if it is the recording quality or what but I like it! A few of the tunes are earlier, different versions of songs they released on later albums (i.e Mongoose). So if you have a lot of their albums chances are they aren't all new songs to you. But it's cool to hear how those songs have evolved to their present states. Definitely worth it if you are into the Fu!

4 out of 5 stars Great, but why soo expensive?!!.......2004-03-11

Crunching adrift whaling guiter riffs, fundamental of awesome sounds from a stoner-type, Sabbath heavy, go get'em & burn out on'em music. Worth more than they got on whoever tried to market them. Fun, aggressive listening, makes you wanna get out and ride that f*ckin bike.

5 out of 5 stars BEST GROUP EVER!.......2002-08-17

this is the best groupie in the wrold! ever! look at the name Fu Manchu, i was actually the founderr of this group thats why my name is manchu, no im just kitting but I had a dream i made this group listen to trac 4 and hear the verse "theres only one man who swings the bat more fierce than a batter, hes the only one whos opinions ever mattered, hes manchu wong, we shall repeat this verse as we continue our song." ah how beautiful that was, i love it, get all their ceedees its amazing! dont forgot, tea with green and yellow leaves is not tea, it is called toobrough.

4 out of 5 stars I didnt see a rating for this one..........2002-01-03

...so here it is. Not their best IMO, but it's the Fu and it still rocks.
Best tracks: "Godzilla" - slow and stoned. "Module Overload" - a riff that will stick in your brain for days. "Pigeon Toe" - I've seen them three times and they always close with this one.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece.......2001-03-04

If I had to make a list of the best heavy duty albums of all time this would be in the top ten. You get your money's worth with these guys. The song Eatin Dust will make your ear drums bleed and Mongoose is a masterpiece in itself. The mighty Sabbath would be proud.

4 out of 5 stars Not Their Best Work, But Still Rocks Like No Other.......2000-06-20

This is a very good effort by this Palm Desert band, but they lack a few things, like the more fuzzy riffs. This sounds more polished, but it still passes the test. Scott has a very cool voice, Brant's drumming is awesome, and the bass has some of the coolest lines yet. This is sure to rock very hard wherever you are. My favorite songs on here are Godzilla, Eatin' Dust, Mongoose, and Shift Kicker. For fans of Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult...

5 out of 5 stars groovy.......1999-07-02

This cd is a cd you put in when you just want to have a good time and head bang in your living room. It is excellent and even though the riffage hardly ever leaves the pentatonic scale they somehow manage to be original i love it. Scott's voice is great and brant has never sounded better on the drums. great cd.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......1999-05-29

Fu Man Chu is total So. Cal., you have to see them live to enjoy the groove and monster truck vibes that roll from this band. The album is great, as are the other disks available. Check em out with an open mind.

2 out of 5 stars Flunks as a Blue Cheer parody.......1999-05-04

First off, a version of Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla" dipped in molasses oozes from the speakers. But there's no Buck Dharma and the singer is _worse_ than Eric Bloom. Which takes some doing, lemme tell ya. Fu Manchu's "Eatin' Dust" almost makes it as a parody of Blue Cheer: raw and brutal guitar riffage steeped in Big Muff fuzz punctuated by a truly useless vocalist who can be counted on to interrupt the mood with bursts of tone-deaf and incomprehensible chatter that is passed off as chant-singing. On "Mongoose" and "Pigeon Toe" the drummer, bass player and one guitar player are allowed to develop a nice amount of head-bang without the singer wrecking things too much but by this time "Eatin' Dust" is almost over. Fu Manchu forgets the dirty little secret of heavy metal: No one who claims to like Blue Cheer actually listens to "OutsideInside" or "Vincebus Eruptum," ever. Probably an awesome live band, though.
