Album Description
"An extraordinary haunting score ... [this] soundtrack is destined for greater things." - HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
"Entrancing and often funny pic spins a tall tale about deep-space voyages to and from Earth via a mixture of original material, archival clips, and footage shot in space by astronauts. Achingly beautiful music by Ernst Reijseger completes the ace package." - VARIETY
Music has always played a central role in the art of Werner Herzog. This musical vision led to extraordinary recording sessions in Paris and Ludwigsburg with Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger, Senegalese singer Mola Sylla, and the Tenore e Cuncordu de Orosei.

Mesmerizing.......2006-12-01
This is an incredible soundtrack. I watched the movie, "Wild Blue Yonder" on DVD and fell in love with the music score.
Beyond category........2006-11-17
Recently, a local movie theater held a festival of films by director Werner Herzog. A favorite of mine, I checked out as many of the films as I could, with a particular eye towards films I hadn't seen, on that list was "The Wild Blue Yonder". As intriguing as that movie is, what really caught me about it was the score-- largely cello accompanying an unusual voice choir. Similar to things I heard but not quite anything in my experience.
I did a little digging and discovered Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger was primarily responsible for the score and picked up a number of albums by him as the score was unavailable. Having enjoyed all of them thoroughly, you could imagine my excitement when I found out this score was coming-- "Requiem for a Dying Planet" combines the scores for "The Wild Blue Yonder" and "The white Diamond" (also by Herzog, though I haven't seen it). Arranged by Reijseger, the scores feature vocalist Senegalese singer Molla Sylla (who also performed with Reijseger on the superb album "Janna") and Sardinian voice choir Tenore e Cuncordu de Orosei (who collaborated with Reijseger on "Colla Voche"). This grouping leads to some rather stunning music-- Reijseger's cemented deep in a number of traditions-- classical, jazz, avant-garde and improv, and features a stunning technique and range of sounds-- playing above and below the bridge, arco and pizzicato. Sylla's vocals are deeply passionate and resonant and feature a remarkable ability to communicate-- singing in languages I'm unfamiliar with, I find when Sylla sings, I can understand his meaning. The Tenore e Cuncordu de Orosei is unusual for unfamiliar ears-- canto a tenore features a five part polyphonic vocalization-- meaning at least some of the singers produce multiple tones at once. It can be unusual on first listen, but has a delicate beauty all of its own.
The best description I can give for the album is the comment by David Jenkins of the Sunday Telegraph, the score "is mesmerizing and beyond categorization." Reijseger arranged a number of traditional religious pieces ("A Una Rosa", "Libere Me, Domine", "Kyrie", among others) and blended them with several originals to produce a spiritual sound-- delicate chants, powerful calls and responses and superb depths of emotion combine to form something at times otherworldly and at times sticking close to its roots. What's constant is that the music is superb throughout and completely beyond categorization. If you're here, you'll probably love this. Highly recommended.

New W.A.S.P. is Good.......2007-06-30
I became a fan of shock rockers W.A.S.P. with Double Live Assassins, a showcase gig that got me hooked. After a long detour with W.A.S.P. because the albums were suddenly now even more over priced, I got their self titled debut and still loved it, with that being their best album. Also have Neon God 1 and The Sting. I had every W.A.S.P. album but Electric Circus and The Last Command. Runs the gamut to masterpieces like the debut to stinkers like Helldorado. As it is, W.A.S.P. are one of the more unprediuctable big name global metal bands besides Cradle of Filth. An acronymn for We Are [...], this album is somewhere in between on the W.A.S.P. hall of greatness. The opener is fantastic, and the rest of the alkbum never lets up so it becomes like Blacki Lawless' No More Tears. Worth buying at a reduced price. 100 dollars is nothing in reality- 8 W.A.S.P. albums...???
Dark, Political, Unapologetic; classic W.A.S.P........2007-06-21
I'll be honest, I didn't care much for this album the first couple times I heard it. I am an avid W.A.S.P. fan so I continued to stay with it and sure enough it grew on me! Now, this album I feel is right up there with "Headless Children" and "Unholy Terror." A very dark album that focuses on the politics and true direction of anarchy this country is heading in; as always, done with lyrical prowess and a haunting musical euphoria!
1. Shadow Man - The album kicks off as always in true W.A.S.P. form. This is one track that takes no time getting into. Heavy and dark, yet it is a true rocking song that can stand on its own without the rest of the album. 4.5/5
2. My Wicked Heart - This is one of the songs that took me awhile to truly enjoy. To me, it seemed a bit rushed and it seemed as though Blackie wanted to cram as much into this track as possible. Heavy guitars and heavy drums more than make up for this however and it turns out to be a good song overall. 3.5/5
3. Black Bone Torso - This song is very dark, and has a nice slow haunting pace to it. A song with a sad, depressing message that revolves around the constant scandles of churches and even religion in general. Blackie really points out the problems with these scandles with this song. One of the best on the album. 4.5/5
4. Hell For Eternity - This was another track that I didn't really get at first, but boy after a few listens it finally clicked. Focused on the anger and feeling of revenge after September 11th, this song is all about what will happen to those that dared to question just what kind of country we are. What's really awesome about this song however is that Blackie can get the message across and still focus on the music surrounding it! A heavy tune that gets you pumped and rocking! 4/5
5. Hallowed Ground - This is THE SONG on this album! No words can truly describe this song but once you hear it, it will stick with you for days at a time. It is a nice ballad of a song that focuses on the destruction and the lives lost during the September 11th attacks. The story is told from the perspective of those people. A truly beautiful song written by Blackie and is, in all honesty (and in my opinion) their best ballad ever to be on an album. 5/5
6. Revengeance - After a very powerful and emotion ballad, W.A.S.P. kick it back up ten notches with this heavy and unrelenting tune; about what else, revenge! Sticking with this theme for the past few songs, Blackie truly lets it all go on this track and let's the world know exactly how he feels! Great roking song, with an awesome theme! 4.5/5
7. Trail of Tears - This song I found to be very much like "Black Bone Torso" and that is a good thing. It is a song that doesn't seem that long at all, but really is, and yet nothing is lost in the length. In the same vein as "Hallowed Ground" this song holds the message of all the lives lost in the attacks but does so in a bit heavier tone. Great song and an under-rated gem on the album. 5/5
8. Stone Cold Killers - This song took me awhile to get into as well, and to be honest I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. It is a heavy tune that rocks, but it seems to be a bit lost in the context of the album. It remains in true W.A.S.P. form and for that alone is enough to appreciate. 4/5
9. Rubber Man - I cannot get into this song at all. I don't know why and I cannot pin-point exactly what it is I dislike about it, but something does not gel here. It feels like another track that Blackie poured so much into, that everything got jumbled up and nothing flowed together. In my opinion the weakest track on the album. 3/5
10. Hallowed Ground (Take #5 Acoustic) - Thankfully the reprise of "Hallowed Ground" follows. It remains true to the previous version, but is even more haunting with the acoustics and crafty voice of Blackie! This is truly an awesome way to end an album with so much political pull! 5/5
Overall, this album is another one that all fans must own! Remember tastes differ so you might like it even more. It is also an album that shows once again what kind of song-writer Blackie really is. Dark, powerful, and very unapologetic... everyone just may be Dying for the World!
W.a.s.p vs. Anger.......2007-01-03
This album is a very good album. Blackie has a way with stale sounds and lousy albums. He seems to hit and miss all the time. This album is a hit, he captured a sound that relates to a sad time in American history.
This album and my opinion of this album are such.
It has an angry sound, it is right after 9/11 and the pain shows on this album.
Blackie said once that NYC was his home not SoCal, ever time he would leave or arrive he would see the massive towers. Towers that were built by hard working Americans and friends and family of the famous frontman.
Where is my home now? no towers, the landscape has changed.
Songs like Hell for Eternity, songs about anger towards Osama, and his evil doers.
This album has to be the best from W.A.S.P. it has timeless tunes and the beats are tight. This album is 5 stars, sadly that album will never be replecated by the wild man, hope he comes close in the future.
Good bye Mr. Holms........2004-10-04
This is Blackie and the boys' finest hour; finest hour sans Chris Holmes that is. Anyone who's heard Still Not Black Enough can attest to the auditory anguish of a W.A.S.P. album absent of booze guzzling mogul and lead guitarist Chris Holmes. Dying for the World is nothing new. It treads no uncharted waters and falls more in the vein of The Headless Children than their much touted comeback album Helldorado. The songs are dark and the overall tone is of horror and despair. All in all there's not a stinker present, even the mellower Hallowed Ground that addresses the issues and tragedies of September 11th holds up rather well. Alleged rocker Bruce Springsteen was given awards for this opportunistic approach, as was Kentucky fried Country picker Alan Jackson. W.A.S.P. cancelled their North American tour.

WASP is BACK.......2004-07-04
When Blackie came out with Helldorado, I was thrilled that he returned to his vintage sound and rock roots and was no longer swayed by the crap that has infected the music industry since the 1990's. Although the album started to run together and sound the same, it was great to hear the ballsy, energetic sound was back. Double Live Assasins was a phenomenal production with excellent sound quality. I figured that was the end right there as the music industry would permit only so much talent in the post-80's era before they would go pushing non-talented bands born from the 90's disgrace that was nirvana, pearl jam and the new 90's metallica. When Unholy Terror came back, Blackie showed continued the energy and continued to return ever closer to the 80's sound. I did not think Dying for The World could top Unholy Terror but it did. The sound/production of the album is a phenomenal high energy assault that one would expect from WASP combined with some potent, well thought out lyrics. Usually when an artist goes political, the music suffers. This album proves that whether Blackie sings about laying pipe or political controversies,he is back to his true form. I am so unbelieveably thrilled by this album's sound that I had to write in even though my time is limited during my first year of medical residency. I have to congratulate Blackie and thank him for returning to his roots and striving to excellence with each sucessive post-90's effort.

Not to be missed!!!.......2007-04-30
This CD is simply excellent! Anybody who ever cared for TV soundtracks should give it a chance. The only better thing is Barry Gray's music for "UFO" TV series, which has been promised from Silva Screen (and has been published by "Fanderson" and since sould out). So, whatever somebody think of the series, this music will not fail to delight. Impressive and nostalgic, mysterious and enthralling, this music really deserves to be heard by everybody.
Great year one compilation.......2007-01-09
This remastered version of Space:1999 year one or series one sounds excellent. It is very clear and you can better appreciate Barry Gray wonderful job.
If you are Space:1999 fan, it is a must have.
An Excellent CD.......2006-07-27
Talk about bringing back memories. The music is crisp-clear & updated. For the 1999 fans-this is a must have.
Fantastic Future Score.......2005-04-01
Space:1999 - the series - may be one of the most controversial SF shows ever. People either love it, or they hate it... there seems to be little middle ground. As a kid I was thrilled with the series, although even then I could see the weaknesses in science, story, and characterization. But from a purely visual and aural standpoint, the first series rarely disappointed.
Especially when it came to the music. As many fans know, Barry Gray scored only 4 episodes - the rest being rounded out by reusing his cues for those episodes, plus liberal doses of library music. This disc gives a good overview of the magnificent music written specifically for the series, as well as a sampling of some of those library cues. As a previous reviewer said, the ultimate soundtrack to the series was released several years ago by the Fanderson organization ( which one had to join as a member to be able to order ) and is sadly out of print. Copies can be found on the internet, often selling for prohibitive prices. Unless you are a diehard collector, willing to shell out a good sized portion of your paycheck, this single disc is the way to go.
Sound quality is superb, and in some cases surpasses the previously mentioned two disc set, as several of the tracks have been remastered to remove wow, flutter, and distortion that could be heard on the Fanderson set. The main title was remixed to make it truer to the on-screen version, and the tracks from the episode "Black Sun" are in stereo on CD here for the first time ever. The previous release featured the episode's complete score, but only as a monophonic version, as many of the multitrack masters for that particular episode have been lost. For that alone, this disc is worth owning, even if you have the Fanderson set.
However, it is Gray's music that is the true reason to own this soundtrack - regardless of your feelings about the series. Full bodied, sweeping, emotional and grand... not at all your typical seventies television soundtrack. Years before John Williams revived the popularity of orchestral scores for science fiction projects, Barry Gray was filling small screen speakers with epic music that would have sounded perfectly at home in a motion picture theatre.
Space 1999 Year One Soundtrack Available Once Again!.......2005-03-09
I give this soundtrack 5 stars only because the soundtrack is awesome, but if you want a more complete compilation, you need to find the Fanderson version.
The year 1 music definately set the tone for the TV show back in 1975. It gave it beautiful character and feeling for the show. It was ashame that for the second year that they had changed so much (even the music) and lost that character and feeling (but that is a whole other debate).
In 1976, RCA records released the year 1 soundtrack with a beautiful gate fold cover and for about 20+ years, that is all we had, until Fanderson. The year 1 soundtrack is no longer available through them, but it is the most complete. This CD, however, does well to capture the feeling of year 1 and does throw an additional track for you sun bathers out there. It is a nice 30 year anniversary gift to myself. Happy 30th Birthday: SPACE 1999!!!

Customer Reviews:
I dunno.......2006-10-27
Not bad but after a while you get tired of it. Very often the novelty of Japanese groups like these disappears for some reason. It is also very expensive.
