believe it or not, it actually works.......2005-07-15
you pretty much know the motley crew here: whit crane, logan, josh freese, trujillo layin' down the bass for their s/t EP, and so on. yeah, i was pretty skeptical myself, to say the least. but surprisingly enough, it works. yeah, it does have just a tiny little bit of that whole nu-metal vibe (that we all hate) happening, but they seem to have taken all of those few positive aspects of the genre (think catchy massiveness, don't go thinking some groovy bullsh*t), with whit ditching that UKJ sh*t and opting for "normal" vocals, that occasionally get more aggressive or got that keith caputo thing going on during some of the choruses (if you didn't know it was whit singing on this thing, you'd NEVER guess it) but then again there's a darker current underneath it all (think cure-ish sh*t), with "underground" probably being one of the best songs on the album (the bridge/chorus is simply AMAZING). so yeah, it's a pretty unique sound, IMHO. i can only think of two reasons why this band never got too big: 1) the band members opting for a smaller label so that they could do their thing uncurbed, 2) narrowminded pr*cks stuck in the past, expecting machineheadish riffs from logan, or being prejudiced because of whit's presence in the band, expecting he'll do his beach dude UKJ sh*t all over again. but people are stupid, so who cares. the only reason i'm not giving this baby five stars is because i'm never an overzealous, unrealistic fan that won't admit that parts of a song or two aren't that great, but on the whole, this is an awesome album that should be checked out by anyone with an open mind. these cats have a unique sound, so there's no point in trying to describe it, best check it out for yourselves. anyone being foolish enough to go expecting "burn your eyes pt. 2" or logan "going back to his roots" is likely to get pissed, but i doubt logan wants that type of people as fans anyway, so...
2 words: Buy It!.......2004-02-15
Let me clear this up now. Anyone buying this album expecting Machine Head part 2 is going to hate this album. Everyone else, please proceed. Most of this album is awesome, with great heaviness and one of the best softer songs I've ever heard("Underground"). It is a bit lighter than the self-titled EP, and there are a couple songs that aren't too great, but the good stuff on here more than makes up for it. Just buy the album and hear it for yourself. Can't wait to hear Logan's new band, Stereo Black. Medication R.I.P.
Dissapointing doesn't even come close..........2003-02-01
My god, this album is a disgrace. I heard Logan Mader was in a new band, and I was psyched to say the least, but when I hear this CD, I was all but in tears. The riffs are non-existent, something I was especially dissapointed by (it's Logan friggin' Mader for Christs sake!), the songs are just wanky drones, sounding more like Placebo than any decent music. I tried and tried to like this CD, but I couldnt. Avoid this like the plague (as if a band with Whitfield Crane out front needs a warning!).
Heavy and Melodic.......2002-09-03
This album was a pleasant surprise. The songs are at times dark, sometimes bright, but usually very melodic. Medication frequently uses contrasting guitar parts - a heavy, distorted, detuned rhythm guitar and a cleaner reverbed lead. It's a great effect. Whitfield Crane sounds great, and the rhythm section is tight. Definately a nice change from the current cookie cutter hard rock scene.
An awesome album.......2002-08-21
When i first heard Logan Mader was in a new band I was excited. His previous work with Machine Head was nothing short of incredible. This album is no exception. Its pretty much phenomenal all the way through. While i didnt care for any of his previous bands, Whit's vocals also really shine especially in songs like "underground" and "something new". This album isnt overly heavy but it does have great melodies and wonderful songs. If your tired of all the nu-metal junk taking over the airwaves then i'd suggest you pick this album up you wont be disappointed.
