One of my favorite singers.......2006-07-31

Connor Burrowes is one of my very favorite trebles (or was I should say since he is now a baritone). I waver between Connor and his younger brother Edward as both have gorgeous voices but a different sound. Connor sounds brilliant on this recording, so pure and rich. It's very comforting music, nice to play while writing or working on things because it's not distracting and simply adds a bit of color to one's day. I highly recommend this CD as well as the Boys Air Choir CD's that Connor and Edward sing on -- especially Blue Bird which shows off Edward's talents and contains gorgeous songs.

I discovered this excellent CD of Connor Burrows on a trip to the university city of Cambridge, in a tiny ye olde world record shop. Very appropriate for the music in question.
Connor's straight clear direct singing, is an ideal vessel with which to convey both the melody of this very early music, and the lyrics...written in a very different manner to modern classical songs.
I feel Connor Burrows would have been a favourite singing these lovely madrigals in the Elizabethan court, from whence they were originally performed. Consort songs were not really designed for the etheral voiced chorister. Connor Burrows and the equally professional Amsterdam Loeki Stradust Quartet, blend well together in harmony and take the listener back in time...to when music didn't need synthsizers or microphones to be enjoyed in all its purity. A fine recording indeed.

An excellent selection of consort music, from the solemn to the upbeat. Connow Burrowes has a beautiful, strong, pure voice and is a delight to listen to. Highly recommended; some very lovely music.

It sucks to have never seen your favourite band live. Peaceville Records seems to be attempting to make up for the fact that My Dying Bride, the labelýs pride and glory, have only been to the States once and have been in ravenous demand ever since.

The album was recorded in March of 2001 in Holland for last yearýs Peacefest concert. The track list spans the bandýs entire career -- everything from a scorching return visit to the epic doom/death of ýSymphonaire Infernusýý to the sweeping languid melancholia of ýThe Cry Of Mankindý and on through ýA Cruel Taste Of Winterý from the bandýs latest full-length release ýThe Dreadful Hours.ý

I donýt know how many studio overdubs were made for this release, but the sound quality is superb and crystal clear! If the band really sounds this good live, then it is truly a crime that we have been deprived so long of experiencing it first hand. There absolutely had to have been some studio wizardry going on, but regardless, fans of the band will totally eat this up just to hear the slight differences from the studio versions.

The most notable differences appear courtesy of keyboardist Yasmin Ahmed. She does a fabulous job in filling the gaps left by the departure of longtime MDB violinist Martin Powell. Throughout the bandýs earlier songs, where the absence of violin would yield a glaringly incomplete sound, she provides some awesome atmospherics. Her style is very Gothic and Ambient oriented, as she has a penchant for layers of ghostly choirs, eerie harmonized orchestral strings, and all sorts of dense and heavily reverberated gloom. Granted you canýt necessarily replace the use of a live violinist, however, instead of trying to mimic the sound of a violin, she provides something decidedly different and almost more eerie at times. Following the notes, but using her own unique synth voices, her presence here definitely makes the entire CD noteworthy to hardcore fans that would notice and appreciate such minor nuances.

Vocally, Aaron sounds fantastic. His growls are downright frightening, even harsher than they were on the recent releases where he resurrected his guttural style once again. The overall effect of the heavier and faster passages of these songs is greatly accentuated, yielding a much more raw and aggressive effect.

The same also holds true for the more romantic and atmospheric parts. The clean vocal passages are emotionally shaken and full of earnest pathos. Indeed, Aaronýs voice is that of the wretched, both that of rage and anger, as well as crestfallen, beautiful despair. All the things My Dying Bride fans expect and count on from this band.

This album is a must for long time fans, as the familiar is given a fresh and unique spin. And the album is produced so well and sounds so good, that it is also a nice collection of the bandýs best material for curious newcomers to Gothic Metalýs finest and most beloved band.

Having no live albums released other than some bootlegs and the bonus CD of the "Angel and the Dark River" album this is the first official My Dying Bride live album. This album was recorded in March 2001 in the Netherlands and features some of the best songs My dying Bride ever recorded performed live. It is good to see that they do not forget their older songs and infact five of the ten songs are from their first albums. What's a real shame is the fact that Peaceville screwed up on the song titles and they are not presented correctly. Also the digipac version of this CD is nicely presented so try finding that if you can. What else can I say... the sound quality is very good, the song selection is good, the performance of all the members is good, so go and buy it. A must have for My Dying Bride fans.
