This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Perfect To Fall Asleep To.......2006-07-20

I bought this CD because I didn't really know which type of sound I'd relax most too be it ocean, rain, forest, etc. Well I love all the sounds on this sampler, and I play it every night. My hubby says that 20 mins into the CD there's a rooster crowing, but I wouldn't know because by that time I'm already fast asleep. Great stuff!

This excellent compilation of 20 different Nature Sound albums was out of print, but is now finally available again through ONLY NEW AGE MUSIC(repackaged and remastered). This album creates a journey through different Nature scenes all recorded by Chuck Plaisance, with a special microphone that simulates human hearing. The sounds were then edited and composed, arranged and mixed like an orchestrated piece but still remain pure Sounds of Nature. Among his most enjoyable CDs........2007-01-07

Jeffrey Osborne experienced a career rebirth thanks to this near-perfect CD. The gorgeous, lushly-produced and arranged ballads "Sending You A Love Song", "Nitetime", "Getting Better All The Time", the title track and the timeless "The Morning After I Made Love To You"are all nclassy Quiet Storm ballads that hold their own with t6hose from the '60s and '70s--something you can't say about most post-1986 R&B--but it's true indeed here. Get it while you still can.

Good Things DO Come to Those Who Wait!.......2003-04-02

The above title is taken from cut number three on this 1990 release. Those that missed the opportunity to purchase this exceptional recording during its initial release should not pass it up now. Osborne, the voice behind so many memorable songs from the group LTD as well as having a remarkable solo career, has never gotten the pop attention that he so richly deserves. Perhaps, his "instrument" is too soulful to cross over. But, this is the American audience's loss because his is a voice that only comes once in a lifetime.

With all the clichés behind me now, it's time for me to relate why this is such a good album. "Only Human" offers the hearer a myriad of auditory delights.

Starting with the timely "If My Brother's in Trouble", Osborn never lets up in showing the prowess that others wish they had. The title track possesses a lyric that is perfect for anyone in a relationship that is being tested. Cuts four and five ("The Morning After I Made Love to You" & "Lay Your Head") should've been placed in reverse order, but they still pack a two-fisted punch when one wants to say the right words to one's partner.

Quiet storm gets no better than "Sending You a Love Song", "Back in Your Arms" (a Freddie Jackson-type ballad)" and "Nitetime". The album ends with a truly soul-wrenching melody in "Getting Better All the Time".

Above all, however, is Osborne's remake of Roberta Flack's "Feel Like Making Love". This just proves that Osborne can take another's hit and fashion something totally original.

That's the mark of a good singer!

My Absolute Favorite Album.......2003-03-10

Jeffrey Osborne...what can I not say about him... What A Talent. The one album that deserves to be back in print. I have had 2 copies both of which i got after it was years out of print. Anyway, this is the album that turned me on to the man, it is my favorite because it is simply some of the best R&B of it's time. It's a Joy to hear a quiet storm master at his best. Every song is amazing, and I love it from start to finish. I know all the songs by heart even. Thank you Jeffrey, you're truly an inspiration!!

That recommendation comes from Hold Your fire (track 5), and this music will surely help you do exactly that! Very, very good basic power metal with decent lyrics, rocking instrumentals and a powerful vocalist. Listening to The Metal Opera, I found the Pope's voice, Oliver Hartmann, particularly interesting so did a little investigation to see what other works he might be involved in. From his discography I chose this CD and am quite pleased with the results. I have been listening repeatedly to all the tracks (64 minutes worth) and that is my general requirement for five stars, so that is what it gets. Track 6 is their version of Spring, which shows just how close Metal and Mozart can be. (I know Vivaldi did The Four Seasons, but metal and Mozart sounds better than metal and Vivaldi.) I just received a copy of this disc and was impressed. I heard about Dina on another website and luckily got a copy of this disc used. I'd never heard any music by her before so I was pleasantly surprised with the high quality of the music! Her voice is beautiful and the musical arrangements on each track is impressive. If I had to compare her to another singer, I'd say that she most reminds me of Taylor Dane - another strong bluesy & soulful vocalist.

The disc features great ballads mixed with a few really good dance tracks which makes for a balanced highly enjoyable cd to listen to & I'd highly recommend it if you're curious about Dina's music.

One great soul-ful voice to come to my ears in a very long time. It is apparent how much passion and soul this artist puts into achieveing her goal of wonderful music. She is diverse in many ways as well as gifted. Lovely ballads as well as catchy finger snapping tunes. this album is no longer in print. I would reccomend it to anybody that can get their hands on it.

At Vance at their best...more than Human!.......2007-03-23

Take a cauldron forged in the purest steel of Germany and put it to boil; then add some "Rainbow" epic style, then some Malmsteen "Marching out" era, a part of Stratovarius "episode" period, a lot of classical music (Great the rendering of the Spring from Vivaldi's Four Seasons) and then let them boil for about an hour or more and you'll get in the end one of the best product in power metal of the year 2k2, At Vance!
In this cd Olaf Lenk and co. create great atmospheres, groovy songs and reinterpretate the "word" spread once by Rainbow covering their "I Surrender" (as a bonus track). After the opening song "Time has come" we find one of the masterpieces of the cd, the "Only Human" song; great power metal influenced by Stratovarius with a catch refrain that take path directly in your ears and in your head and it will never leave you easily! Then we have the granitic "Fly to the rainbow" where the shadow of His Majesty Yngwie Johann Malmsteen appears between the notes and solos of this song, really well played and felt by the group. "Take me away" is a little hymn for all the headbangers, mostly the youngsters, while it took in minds the older ones the great eighties movement. Something particular ,even not so extravagant, "Witches Dance" presents us with an incredible taste for the early 80's and something "ancestral" feelings I cannot really describe...
Great the artwork done by Luis Royo who really fit the groove, the inner strenght of this cd...Let's take a chance to these guys!

Old-School quality METAL.......2006-10-24

WOW! I had never heard of these guys when I stumbled upon them through a sound bite on a website. I was amazed. With all the bands out there that sound the same, these guys rise above. They have leanings toward Yngwie Malmsteen, but yet are different. They can write a good song with catchy riffs, good vocals and choruses you want to sing along with!!! I am always impressed with bands that write good songs that are melodic and not just loud guitars with no ryhme or reason. The title track "Only Human" is amazing! probably the best of the CD. "Fly to the Rainbow" shows off the vocal range of this singer. Truely amazing! The cover song of Rainbows "I surrender" is a great way to end this CD. anyone who is a fan of Yngwie Malmsteen or neo/classical bands need to pick this one up for their collection. Although this is a review for this CD you should also check out two of their better CD's "Dragon Chaser" and "Heart of Steel".

Where did they come from?.......2002-07-31

A man in a shop told me to check these guys out. And I'm SO glad I did.

These boys have been around for some time, but this is apparently their best and best produced release.

How to describe them...neoclassical rock/metal, with commercial leanings, I guess. The vocalist is from the R J Dio school, the guitarist does a pretty good impression of Yngwie, although he's not quite a total clone, the keys are of similar extraction, bass and drums solid, with flashes of brilliance.

And the all-important songs. Well, they can certainly pen a decent tune. Big choruses abound, in particular the title track. And each song has a decent melody line to keep the listener interested, before the band go off into an instrumental work-out. The tempos vary from full-on double bass drum thrashers (aka Stratovarius), to power ballads, with some good ol' stompers thrown in, and a couple of instrumentals (The 4 seasons??!!!)

My version also has a cover of I Surrender, which I think is pretty good, especially the extended outro. In fact it reminds me of when I saw Yngwie in 1989 with J L Turner on vocals, and they did it too.

Lesser AD2.......2007-01-28

This was the last album from AD2 before their several reformations first for Vortex then again in the 90's & to today. It shows a band still capable of recording decent songs but without John Weinzerel's incredible guitar playing it all sounds a little bit flat. While not their best, it certainly doesn't deserve the trashing it's gotten over the years. AD2 at their worst is better than most bands at their best and this album only suffers in comparison to their own earlier albums. The bonus track, while not the strongest song, helps to flesh a sort of short album out a bit. Recomended mostly to fans, but interstingly this is the only AD2 album that I've heard sampled on other artists recordings.

Anyone who can pull off a psychedelic disco album is okay with me.

I have the original for now, but the "Kirk Morgan" remix on this Inside-Out reissue is actually GOOD. Wouldn't be out of place on an Air album. Don't hate 'til you've at least heard that one track.

Terrible Amon Duul II album.......2006-06-25

Originally released in 1978.This is Amon Duul II?Really?Sure doesn't sound like Amon Dull II,not at all.Only two tracks here that I was somewhat impressed with were "Don't Turn To Stone" and "Spaniards And Spacemen".Oh the music isn't bad,just not your traditional AD II.I'd best describe it as second class progressive.Didn't do much for me.Two bonus cuts have been tagged onto this CD reissue.Nice humorous cover,though.As I've actually BEEN in that very position;only my black cat wasn't holding the match...I was blowing smoke in her face when she didn't seem to mind.Ever gotten your cat high?Fun,isn't it?Okay,Beavis that's all for today.

Huh?!?!?!.......2005-05-10

First of all, the shock of a PROG ROCK band releasing an album in the DISCO AGE. Freaky. Upon release in 1978, as well as 2005. Freaky too, that it works as well as it does. The prog-kraut-rock experimentation is present, though buried beneath flashes of pop, Spanish and Middle Eastern influenced sounds, as well as the already noted disco influence. BEWARE, however, that these songs are REMIXED, sometimes extensively. Acknowledging that this is not their best effort and perhaps in response to the fact that the album has been sampled by hip hop artists, it was decided to augment the songs. It's a little disorienting to hear Kirk Morgan sped up, Don't Turn Too Stone crowded with extra instrumentation, and Ruby Lane with added effects and sounds. I'll have to take a star away for this -- I'm a bit nolstalgic for the original mix -- but I'll add a star for the bonus tracks, which continue the international flavor of the album.

Changamire defies easy categorization: her vocals can be sultry, cool, hip, warm, playful, soulful...but always with great sensitivity and style. She possesses a rare melodic and lyrical sensibility which is beautifully complimented by the top-rate material she has chosen for her debut album, particularly the songs by Lincoln Ross. "It's Over" is a real gem, both for its fluid and memorable melody and Changamire's impeccable ear for classic jazz stylings. The arrangements, orchestrations and production are all first-class, as they should be for a vocalist of this breadth and depth. Unlike so many of her contemporaries, Changamire is truly an "artist" of the highest musical caliber. I highly recommend this!

Changamire is a gem on the verge of being discovered. I love the title track, "Only Human", and the melancholy "It's Over". Her intonation is flawless, her style original and genuine, and her delivery sincere. "The Key" is charming and upbeat.Give yourself a treat and listen to this collection!

I was plesantly surprised when I first heard this CD. The more I listened to it the more it grew on me. My favorite song is "In the Bag". I have turned several friends on to Only Human.
This younglady has alot of potential and can only get better with time. Thanks Changamire for some decent listening music.
