When a movie's main selling point is that it's really big and really loud, the soundtrack's got to keep up. But oddly, this CD falls short--tellingly, the first single is a power ballad by the Goo Goo Dolls, "Before It's Too Late," featuring the kind of emoting previously heard in Spider-Man's "Hero." The album's producers have mostly focused on arena guy rock circa 2007, with songs pulled from new or recent albums by the likes of Linkin Park or Taking Back Sunday. There should have been more tracks like the Smashing Pumpkins' rumbling juggernaut, "Doomsday Clock," Disturbed's compact "This Moment" or the Used's riff-a-rama "Pretty Handsome Awkward." Slightly surprising is the absence of electronics and hip-hop, the only exception (sort of) being Styles of Beyond's "Second to None," which sounds like the Beastie Boys on EPO, and Julien-K's "Technical Difficulties." While the big names are packed in the first two thirds of the CD, the last third serves as a showcase for upcoming bands (whose songs aren't in the movie) that sound exactly like their elders--glossy, huge, based on big guitar riffs. In the end, all this aggro energy feels more cosmetic and corporate than authentic. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

    1 out of 5 stars Where's the real score?.......2007-08-01

I went to see Transformers last night in the theatre and was all excited about finding the soundtrack online today. What a disappointment! The fantastic musical score isn't even on this "soundtrack". That's what I wanted to buy!

1 out of 5 stars A really piece of crap ..........2007-08-01

I see the movie first, I admit that I see the cartoon when I have teen years old, I was very impressed with the background music used in the Qatar desert part, when the A10 begins the strike againist Skorpenok. I think whoaaaa!! I MUST have the soundtrack. Then I found this crap, you know what is the really word that I should use, what a piece of junk! four songs "not in the film", what's that mean?, really a shame, the best of this is the statment of Sony Music: "At this time, there are no immediate plans regarding the release of the Transformers soundtrack score.", this simply indicates it is not currently in the works at Sony Music. I recommend you, stay away of this cd. To Mr. Jablonsky GOOD JOB.

    5 out of 5 stars quit bitching.......2007-07-30

if you want the damn score then look for the damn score!
this soundtrack happens to be f**kin GREAT aside from missing the few 80's songs that were in the movie and not here. so once again...if you like/love any/all the artists here you will LOVE this soundtrack...if you want the score...quit pissing on the soundtrack and LOOK FOR THE FRIGGIN SCORE, ya JACKASSES!

1 out of 5 stars Until the "real soundtrack is released...........2007-07-30

then maybe anyone with Limewire or other p2p software can be content with the music from the official game of Transformers the movie, which is scored by Steve Jablonski. Search as "Transformers game", this piece isn't the exact main theme from the film but uses similar riffs and elements (most reminiscent of the arrival of Optimus, Ratchet, Ironhide and Jazz in their protoforms).

1 out of 5 stars These songs have nothing to do with the movie at all...........2007-07-29

I think I remember 3 rock songs in it. Please release the true music that Steve Jablonsky wrote that the was the reason for movie doing so well. This soundtrack is an insult to someone that is really responsible for the mood of the movie. The music director that put this out sucks as much as this unnecessary album.

The double-disc soundtrack to the blockbuster Saturday Night Fever (available on a single CD) marks both the zenith and the nadir of disco. It was such a popular sensation that it catapulted the music to stratospheric levels of mainstream popularity, and the album was the bestselling movie soundtrack of all time (until The Bodyguard, and then Titanic). But "Disco Fever" became so hot, it could only flame out just as quickly (along with the careers of the Bee Gees). With this record, disco became a phenomenon and a fad. The Bee Gees' contributions are the strongest, especially the once-ubiquitous "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever," and they still hold up. Then there's Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven," a trivial piece of pop ephemera that may have set new standards for ephemeral triviality. How often will you listen to this record--and how much will you play when you do? There's no telling--but it remains a classic piece of pop history, and when you're in the mood it's a good thing to have around. --Jim Emerson

    5 out of 5 stars The best!.......2007-07-31

This cd has brought me back to when I was [...]. I remember having this movie on vhs. Then 17+ years later I got the new dvd, then I picked up this soundtrack. It's an awesome cd, if you loved the movie then pick this up and you'll love every track from it!

5 out of 5 stars You've got the touch, you've got the POWER.......2007-07-24

One of the major complaints I've heard about the old animated Transformers movie (besides character deaths aplenty, flimsy plot, bad animation, lack of characterization, etc.) was that the soundtrack was loud and rather jarring. I beg to differ -- the songs were pulse-raising and just plain fun, and while not the type of music one would expect to accompany giant robots beating the scrap out of each other, they fit in an odd way. Days after the movie ended I still found myself humming "The Touch" and "Dare To Be Stupid" at odd moments.

So naturally one of my first Amazon purchases was the Transformers soundtrack, which made me fall in love with the music all over again. I love 80s rock, and this soundtrack is a classic showcase of it. Even if you don't recognize the artists (Weird Al is the only one I knew before seeing the movie), these songs will still capture the spirit of the music of that era.

My one complaint (and this is VERY minor) is that the CD case was a little cracked when I received my order. This didn't affect the CD quality, however, and having worked in a bookstore that also sold music, I know how hard it is to avoid cracking the case during shipping. Also, I doubt the CD's going to spend much time in the case anyhow -- if it isn't in my CD player, it's most likely in my portable CD case in my car.

    5 out of 5 stars Gran colección.......2007-07-16

Este es un gran album para cualquier amante del G1 de transformers. El sonido es excelente y con los extras es aun mejor. Hay que aclarar que es el soundtrack de la película y no de la serie. Si ya tienen la película esta es una gran compra.

5 out of 5 stars The best Transformers soundtrack out there.......2007-07-15

First, I like to get the obvious out of the way. It may seem like a "duh" statement, but the more I see, the more I believe this has to be said. This is the soundtrack to the original 80's animated movie, not the '07 live action movie. If you're looking for the live action movie soundtrack, it's the one with the profile shot of the head of CGI Optimus. Try again. Now for the review of this release...

I first bought the 10-track soundtrack years ago. Even that version, without the four bonus tracks, I would have rated a solid five stars. It was great car driving music and there wasn't a single track that I would skip. If you've ever seen the movie, there isn't a single song or score on here that won't immediately conjure up images in your mind of the scene that it came from.

How much better is it now that it has four new bonus tracks? For one thing, even having said I'd rate the original album with five stars, there was one score that I always felt was missing, the Unicron theme. Now that this release has cleared up that minor oversight, I have to say that this album is nearly flawless.

Nearly flawless because I must admit I do skip over the new remix of the Transformers theme. But that's just personal preference. Besides, show me any other album where I only skip over one song, and I'd still have to rate it far above most other cd's out there.

With the inclusion of the Unicron Medley, Moon Base 2 score, Megatron Must be stopped scores and the original 10-tracks which I've already stated I never skip a track, this is a solid buy for any fan of the original Transformers Movie. In fact, if you dare to call yourself a Transformers fan, than this album deserves to be in your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Irresistable if you are a child of the 80's.......2007-07-12

I dare any fan of action cartoons from the 80's to not get chills running up and down their spine as they hear the opening bars of 'The Touch' by Stan Bush. This would have to be one of my favourite hard rock songs of all time and one that can instantly lift my mood no matter what.
Being more a fan of metal the tracks 'Instruments of Destruction' by NRG and 'Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way' by Spectre General are also stand out and it is hard not to be a fan of Kal Swan's soaring vocals on the Transformers Theme which is surely one of the best vocal tracks this guy has ever laid down.
Woven throughout these pumping rock tracks is the work of Vinnie DiCola, which is also able to transport you to various parts of the movie instantly with his talented compositions. I still get a bit misty eyed when I hear 'The Death Of Optimus Prime'.
Sheerly in terms of its nostalgic value this would have to be my favourite movie soundtrack of all time, without a doubt.

For better or worse, Andrew Lloyd Webber's adaptation of Gaston Leroux's gothic horror/romance novel has done for stage musicals what Spielberg's Jaws did for fish stories, with worldwide sales of its original cast album approaching 25 million. While director Joel Schumacher's film turns on his typically ambitious visual verve, its new film soundtrack recording has been paradoxically focused in scope, yet beefed up dynamically via the brawny presence of a hundred piece orchestra and The London Boys Choir. This single disc version showcases all of Phantom's key songs (a deluxe, double-disc edition is also available), with Gerard Butler imparting a welcome, youthful sensuality to his Phantom, making a fine foil for Emmy Rossum's ever-conflicted Christine. Original show orchestrator David Cullen has fashioned compelling new contemporary arrangements to frame Webber's songs -- which now conclude with the lilting, upbeat new ballad he wrote for the film, "Learn to Be Lonely," sung by Minnie Driver. --Jerry McCulley

The CD was in perfect condition and I am enjoying it very much. It was delivered in a very timely manner and the price was good. Thanks amazon!

    5 out of 5 stars Perfect music!.......2007-06-11

The Phantom of the Opera is my favorie musical of all time, simply put. The movie is absolutely incredible, so I just had to have the soundtrack. Though this one-disc version leaves out many excellent pieces, it still has the bulk of the music.
First of all, let me just say that Emmy Rossum (Christine) sounds MUCH more elegant and true than Sarah Brightman (who overpronounces to the point of absurdity) in the classic London Cast recording of the musical.
Second of all, Gerard Butler may not be as operatic as Michael Crawford, but he is a much better actor, and the simple sound of his voice IS the Phantom. "Music of the Night" is so beautiful when he sings it, unlike Michael Crawford's mockery of the piece as he tries to sing those bass notes and just ends up mushing it all together into a horrible, overpronounced, over-legato MESS!
Now, Patrick Wilson! He has such a wonderful voice it just makes me faint! Wow! He is, I swear, the greatest tenor alive. Anyone who criticizes his beautiful performance of Raoul is simply insane.
This soundtrack has some utterly perfect music, such as
    1. Gerard's incredible performance of "Music of the Night." He sings so beautifully at the end with that last "night" that one can scarcely believe it.
    2. "Down Once More," the final scene of the movie can produce tears even without images on a screen. Hearing the three characters' voices together is sheer perfection!
    3. "All I Ask of You" has wonderful emotion on all fronts, and Rossum and Wilson blend together into pure love. Bravo! Brava! Bravi!
    4. "All I Ask of You (Reprise)"... It is so truly heartbreaking that I can never stop crying. "You will curse the day you did not do... all that the Phantom asked of you!" It has such a blend of emotion that one can only sit and listen, in bliss and awe.
This soundtrack, though missing some songs (get the two-disc set if you want them all), is basically perfect. I will love this music and these wonderful singers forever.

5 out of 5 stars phantom of the opera is great!.......2007-06-08

Too many soundtracks feel interchangeable, and rare are the composers who really capture a movie's core. But Javier Navarrete has succeeded in his Oscar-nominated score for Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth, a dark fantasy set in 1944 Spain. The first cue, "Long, Long Time Ago," sets the melancholy tone with piano and voice; the spectral piano pops up several more times, and the theme is more fully developed in "Mercedes Lullaby." But it's the second track, the aptly titled "The Labyrinth," that really gives the listener insight into the movie's tenebrous universe. While Navarrete can certainly do short, intimate pieces dotted with telling arrangements (like the few trumpet notes adding a subtle Spanish flavor to "Rose, Dragon"), he excels on the longer tracks, such as "Not Human," which goes through a succession of moods, each one increasingly scary, without ever going overboard into cheap, demonstrative effects. Navarrete has already had a long career as a film scorer in Spain, and this won't be the last American audiences hear from him. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

    5 out of 5 stars A beautiful film score.......2007-07-26

PAN'S LABYRINTH is one of the best films I have seen in the past five years. The blending of fantasy with the ugliness of reality really captured my heart. One of the reasons was because of Javier Navarrete's gorgeous film score. The melody of the score is based on the lullaby that Mercedes sings to Ophelia when she has to move to a separate room away from her mother who is put on bed rest. The music flows effortlessly together. Javier's excellent compositions reminds me of John Williams and Hans Zimmer but more subtle and not so loud and bombastic during the intense scenes. I don't know if PAN'S LABYRINTH would have been as good if the director had gone with another composer. Javier's music really captured the essence of the film whether the scenes were treading in the brutal reality of the Spanish civil war or in the fantasy world of the faun. I hope that after the success of PAN'S LABYRINTH, the public will be hearing more from Javier Navarrete. His work in the Guillermo del Toro film is simply one of the best film scores I have heard in the past decade.

5 out of 5 stars Evocative, atmospheric... beautiful.......2007-07-22

This is the best soundtrack I have heard in a very, very long time. The film itself is a perfect joining of image and music, and this CD perfectly captures one half of it--I can't watch the movie without noticing the music, and I can't listen to this CD without thinking of the movie. That's the way it should be.

Establishing a simple, repeated lullaby early on, Javier Navarrete's entire score builds on this tune, exporing deeper, darker, and ever more complex tunes with every track before returning to the simple melody at the end.

This CD includes musical cues not actually used in the film, although after repeated viewings of the film and listening to the soundtrack dozens of times, I'm hard-pressed to tell you which are which. The music--all of it--is so beautiful that the listener is almost immediately lost in the world it evokes. And even at nearly an hour and fourteen minutes, the music rarely repeats itself and never gets old.

An excellent companion piece for anyone who enjoyed the movie or anyone who loves beautiful music. Highly recommended.

    5 out of 5 stars Wow.....I am speechless.......2007-07-06

I hardly can find the words to describe this music. Beautiful. Haunting and absolutely stirring. That is just the tip of the iceberg. I found the film itself, in it's own way, a great film but the music is what gave the film its ability to communicate with the viewer. My only regret is that the CD is not necessarily a CD to take a nap too. There are a few tracks that seem to keep me awake, making them great in their own way. But the music of Pan's Labrynth is some of the best music ever written for a film. Full of beautiful lullabies, dark, haunting brass and strings, and majestic, sweeping and imagination-driving moments. A must own CD. An ABSOLUTE must.

    5 out of 5 stars Intricate Simplicity.......2007-06-12

The movie was great, even though it was in Spanish the soundtrack pulled everything together for me. The music is simplistic in its melodies yet conveys deep emotions. I love to listen to it to relax or just for something different. I think it is one of the best scores I have ever heard.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Melodious.......2007-06-09

Many use the word "haunting" to describe the music on this CD, and that is certainly true. It compliments the movie wonderfully and leaves quite the impression. I found my emotions on a rollercoaster, from soothed and comforted to pensive to apprehensive, as each composition played through. I thought it all masterfully composed and unlike anything I've heard. I give it a solid recommendation.

It's not that surprising that Rent, a successful musical with a strong youth following, would have transferred from the New York stage to film. What is remarkable is that the material has aged very well and that most of the original cast have made the trip to the silver screen. This is no small feat since nearly ten years have elapsed since the show's Off-Broadway debut and the film's release. When it opened in 1996, Jonathan Larson's rock musical based on neobohemian life in the gritty East Village felt a bit hackneyed at times; now, Rent feels more like a Broadway fantasy about life on the edge, and that new element actually works in the show's favor. The two cast additions--Rosario Dawson (replacing Daphne Rubin-Vega as Mimi) and Tracie Thomas (replacing Fredi Walker as Joanne)--act well and with emotion, but aren't quite powerful enough. They are eclipsed by vets such as Anthony Rapp, Idina Menzel, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, and Taye Diggs, who of course had the chance to perfect their roles on stage and can also be heard on the original cast recording. It's a pleasure to hear these stalwarts New York performers strut their stuff again. This soundtrack will please the show's fans, and probably attract new ones. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

    Album Description

One of the longest-running shows (since 1996) in the history of Broadway, and one of its most beloved, RENT was the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Based on Puccini's classic opera "La Boheme," Jonathan Larson's revolutionary rock opera tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic in New York's gritty East Village. Now the powerful musical marks its 10th year on stage by coming to the big screen, accompanied by RENT The Motion Picture Soundtrack, produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morissette).

5 out of 5 stars Love this Musical!!.......2007-06-20

I absolutely loved this in the movie form and would love to see the live show. But since that will be a while in coming; getting the soundtrack is the next best thing. These people can SING! This way I can hear the songs anywhere at anytime; not just watching the movie.

    5 out of 5 stars great soundtrack.......2007-04-26

I have own this soundtrack pretty much since it came out...

I have never been that big on musicals, but when the movie first came out my friend dragged me to the movies with him to see the movie, and right away I fell in love with it...and for the next week I had the songs stuck in my head, they just wouldn't go away...they haunted me in my sleep, but in a good way...I fall in love with all the music, so i had to get this soundtrack so I would be able to listen to these wonderful songs all the time, especially till the movie came out onto dvd, which i also own and love to death. The songs are so addictive...I am actually listening to the soundtrack as I'm writing this review, I can't pick out one song that is my favorite, I love all of them. If i had to choice "Will I" or "Without You". "Will I" is such a touching song on its own, but when its patterned with the movie it hit me hard, great song, it brings tears to my eyes when i listen it. And the same goes with "Without You" its just a very touching song and it connects with my life. Overall one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard.

5 out of 5 stars First Time a Film has been as Good as the Original Musical.......2007-02-23

I will keep this short, because " M J Heilbron Jr. 'Dr. Mo' " said it perfectly.

I have never seen a movie that has been able to capture everything a musical did.

The actors were perfectly selected for the cast. The voices amazing and the acting flawless. Who knew Taye Diggs could act and sing.

Buy this CD. You will love it every bit as much as you loved the original Broadway CD... if not more.

Hitting theaters July 27th, this movie is certainly one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2007. It will feature all the voices of the original cast that has made the Simpson's TV show the longest running animated series in television history. The show has aired more than 375 episodes and will celebrate its 400th this season, scheduled to coincide with the film's opening. This CD contains the familiar themes from the show as well as the original movie score by award-winning composer/producer Hans Zimmer. A must for all Simpson's fans and donut lovers alike.

    5 out of 5 stars simpsons score.......2007-08-01

Even though parts of the score to The Simpsons Movie do get big, such as the opening orchestral version of Danny Elfman's theme, mostly it's kept much smaller in scale. This is nice to see both because of its contrast to other recent Zimmer scores, but also because it's very tastefully done in terms of telling the film's story in a more quirky and clever way.

In regards to other reviewers' complaints that there is no Homer singing Spiderpig on the CD, I found the CD version funnier. In the theater where I saw the film, everyone laughed at the version of Homer singing it, but not nearly as much as they laughed at the end credits CD version, which was longer and more unexpected.

5 out of 5 stars the good german.......2007-08-01

How could you not love this album?!? Hooray for The Simpsons !!! p.s. The donut smells divine !

4 out of 5 stars So a Green Day track would grant this album 4 more stars? Please..........2007-07-31

The soundtrack genre of music is actually two sub-genres. There are soundtrack releases that contain the pop/rock/vocal singles from the movie, and then there are those that feature a composer's actual scoring of the film -- usually instrumental and symphonic in orchestration. Some CD's contain both kinds of works, but there are cases where there's a clear divide. There are, for example, two different releases of the Shrek soundtrack: one subtitled "Music from the Original Motion Picture" and another subtitled "Original Motion Picture Score".

Those who complain that the Green Day tracks or Homer's interlude are not on this CD simply aren't in touch with instrumental film scores. And that's fine as a matter of personal preference, but that's no reason to dismiss the album as a whole.

If you like film scores written in a late Romantic idiom (or most of Hans Zimmer's other work for that matter), you'll probably also like this CD. It showcases how Zimmer can aptly score all kinds of films, like Spanglish , Gladiator, and everything in between.

    1 out of 5 stars a disapointment.......2007-07-30

yeah- its just a soundtrack. Now normally I like them, but I am so disapointed that there was not the Green day music, nor Homer singing spider pig, that I am very bummed out.

Oh, and that I could have bought the version in the metal doughnut for only a few bucks more....

and yes- the bonus content is totally bogus, and all in all I have to say this is the first item relating to the movie (to include the ads) I have been disapointed with. It feels like a total afterthopught, when everything eolse was so well planned out and cool.

    1 out of 5 stars it's "just" a soundtrack.......2007-07-29

If you are used to, and expecting the typical Simpsons cd: with snippets of dialog and song/music, you are going to be disappointed with this!

Put it this way.... the "Spider Pig" track... does NOT have Homer singing spider pig!
None of the Green Day stuff is on the Cd
Oh and the "bonus content" is just footage of them creating the soundtrack...which is available via a link that anyone can access

    What a big diddily disappointment.

Already a box office sensation with a million-selling soundtrack in its native France, writer/director Christopher Barratier's tale of a post-war music teacher's lasting impact on his young charges rode its formulaic Hollywood roots all the way to Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations as Best Foreign Language Film, as well as an Oscar nod for Best Song ("Look To Your Path [Vois Sur Ton Chemin]," a collaboration between the director and film composer Bruno Coulais). Taking his inspiration from the boy's chorus at the center of the film's drama, Coulais has concocted a masterful, classically rooted score that showcases the crystalline, youthful harmonies of Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc Choir. The composer bridges the baroque and modern eras in a collection of mostly Latin choruses and chants, a skillful, often haunting fusion that also netted Coulais' compelling score BAFTA and Cesar Awards in Britain and his native France, respectively. -- Jerry McCulley

      Album Description

The Chorus (Les Choristes), written and directed by Christophe Barratier, is already a French cinema phenomenon. The modestly budgeted film about a music teacher in a post-war France who wins over the troubled students at a boarding school arrived in French theatres last summer with little advance hype. Defying industry expectations, this affecting tale proceeded to break box-office records. The soundtrack to The Chorus (Les Choristes) features performers by the Lyon-based Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc and several haunting solo turns by 13 year-old boy soprano Jean-Baptiste Maunier, who also portrays the youthful protagonist of the film.
