Customer Reviews:
Great Music, Terrible Production.......2007-07-04
This is the most overlooked album in the Suffocation catalog, and it is sadly out of press. Is it because of the musical performance in here? No, they did an excellent job at that. The reason why "Breeding The Spawn" is such an overlooked record is because of a terrible producing job done. Sub-par production isn't always a bad thing as long as it fits in with the music, but when it comes to Suffocation, and thinking this album came out after "Effigy of the Forgotten", it's just sad that this CD had to have such lame production. Thanks to that, the guitar tone is thin, the bass is barely audible, Frank Mullen's vocals sound like he has a sore throat, and the CD sounds like it was recorded in a garage.
There are golden elements in this album. Excellent riffage in songs like "Beginning of Sorrow" and the title track, the bass solo in "Epitaph of the Credulous", and excellent drumming make this another CD worth listening despite the terrible production.
Overall, this is a good CD. It's solid, well-played death metal. However, if you're new to the band, check out "Effigy of the Forgotten" first, and save this for later.
Suffocation strikes back with another great album!!.......2006-07-25
Despite the bad production, this album still kicks alot of a-s-s. The highlite of "Breeding the Spawn" is that the bass is more audible than in other Suffocation albums, and audible bass is good; this is kinda like "Hell Awaits" by Slayer, the production lags, but in turn, it delivers a cooler sound to the vibe.
While "Effigy of the Forgotten" was a pure speed fest, this album has some slow, sludgy riffs in songs like "Epitaph of the Credulous;" but don't worry, there's still plenty of speed and sweet guitar solos, low-pitched growls, and machine gun-drumming.
Every song kicks, but my favorites are "Breeding the Spawn," "Epitaph of the Credulous," "Prelude to Repulsion," and "Ornaments of Decrepancy."
This album is pretty hard to find, but its worth finding. If you love death metal, and good music in general, this is for you.
If your favorite bands are Kittie, Slipknot, Mudvayne, and the Deftones, steer clear of this as you'd soil your adult diapers from the first ten seconds of listening.
Suffocations worst - Pick up Effigy of the Forgotten or Pierced From Within.......2006-02-10
Within 5 seconds of listening to this disc you can hear how poorly produced it is. It actually sounds like you are listening to a warped cassette tape !! After Effigy of the Forgotten, you have to wonder what they were thinking when this was released. Was it because of pressure from the record company that caused them to release this album with such a poor sound? The bass-heavy, in your face brutality of Effigy of the Forgotten is gone. Instead we are left yearning for so much more while trying to make out low, thin guitars and the barely audible drums. I have tried to listen to this for years and I just cant find anything good.
The first song and the title track are good songs, but beyond that the rest of the album is weak. The beginning of the last song, Ignorant Deprivation, just sounds so damn cheezy because of the horrid guitar sound. Maybe if they re-recorded these songs (like they did with Breeding the Spawn on Pierced From Within) you would be able to hear what they are supposed to sound like.
I do not recommend picking this album up. I see that other people love this album, but it is clearly Suffocation's worst.
AMAZING.......2005-12-13
This is the only suffocation album you need!! This is the best of the bunch and I reccomend it to anyone who likes any kind of metal. Fans that don't like death Metal should listen anyway, and even more so if you are a drummer or fan of drums. I consider Mike to be one of the best in the death genere, so take a good listen to what he is doing. YOu will be amazed.
Suffocation's Best.......2005-09-17
I must say that this is the only Suffocation album that I can listen to in its entirety without taking a break. I found Effigy and Pierced to be very boring and annoying. But this is a good listen despite the so called poor production, I think it helped bring out their true sound. If you are thinking of buying a Suffocation CD then get this, but if you want excellent death metal then then look no further than VADER - The Ultimate Incantation, and MALEVOLENT CREATION - Retribution, 2 excellent albums every death metal fan should own.
