Ennio Morricone is well-known to moviegoers. His soundtracks for The Mission, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in America, Cinema Paradiso, and others are invariably warmly melodic and superbly suited to the films they grace. They not only add atmosphere; they help tell the story. For this CD Morricone has created new orchestrations for many of his scores, adding a solo cello part for the indefatigable Yo-Yo Ma, whose musical curiosity seems to be endless. Outside the films, these pieces tend to be lovely melodies, mostly pretty sentimental stuff, and, in the best way, gorgeous aural wallpaper. The most moving are the two selections from The Mission, but fans of Morricone's music will find plenty to enjoy here. Ma's playing, as always, is exquisite---warm, deeply felt (given the circumstances), and entirely idiomatic within the context. Perhaps not quite for the classical music lover, but an affectionate reworking of music by an important film composer. --Robert Levine

5 out of 5 stars Is it bad to say I like this better than the original soundtrack?.......2007-06-02

I never thought Yo-Yo Ma would do Gabriel's Oboe (Track 1) from THE MISSION justice, but I was wrong. There's a pureness to this version that makes it easier casual listening than the version(s) on the soundtrack CD itself. So no matter how much I love the theatrical "largeness" of the Original Soundtrack (not to mention the full choir), this is the version I grab for the CD player/iPod/whatever.

My two other recommendations are Main Theme from ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (Track 11) and Ecstasy of Gold from THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY (Track 12). I suggest playing these consecutively as a single medley. Track 11 *WILL* bring tears to the manliest among us --particularly if you remember in the movie where Sergio Leone pulls the camera up to reveal the town rising.

I get the feeling "hardcore" classical fans would dismiss movie scores as commercial work. I truly believe Ennio Morricone transcends that. Even moreso than, say, John Williams, and on a different plane than a Danny Elfman. And I can't say more about the emotion Yo-Yo Ma brings to the table than what's already been discussed.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Exquisite.......2007-05-15

The combination of Morricone and Ma is pure perfection. This CD fills my heart with so much joy that I could just cry. I listen to it almost daily and have given it away as a gift to my loved ones. I am captivated by their incredible talents, and I know you will be too.

4 out of 5 stars Yo Yo Ma and the Maestro Marvelous!!!.......2007-05-13

Having recently succumbed to Yo Yo Ma after a longtime love of Ennio Marricone I was excited to get this CD from Amazon. It is superb! All of the songs had to be recrafted by Morricone to suit Yo Yo Ma but it is a great listen as you sonically travel down memory lane through some of Maestro Moricone's musical marvels. "Gabriel's Oboe" from "The Mission" now becomes "Gabriel's Cello." I laugh as Yo Yo Ma bows his brains out on the "Ecstacy of Gold' from "The Good,The Bad, and The Ugly." I recommend this to all Yo Yo Ma and Morricone fans...a great listen. Soothing after a hard day!

5 out of 5 stars Better Every Time.......2007-05-09

This CD gets better with every listening. It was a great purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous CD.......2007-05-07

I love Morricone and this CD has some of the best versions of my favorite pieces. I have ordered several as gifts for friends.

The concluding chapter of director Sergio Leone's epochal Man With No Name trilogy ushered film scorer Ennio Morricone into the pop mainstream courtesy of a hit cover of its main title by American Hugo Montenegro. More importantly, it both showcased the composer's spectacularly inventive range and set him up for even greater triumphs to come with Leone and others. But aficionados of il Maestro Morricone's G,B&U soundtrack knew its original editions contained but the main thematic/musical elements of the spaghetti western epic -- until now. The addition of ten previously unissued cues on this newly remastered edition render the landmark score in its full glory, nearly doubling its running time in the bargain. While some of these new elements are but spare, haunting reworkings of familiar motifs (including Allessandro Allessandroni's trademark guitar riffs and the chilling vocal shrieks the composer used to evoke the howling of coyotes) that help expand its emotional dynamic, others like "Sentenza," "La Missione San Antonio" (a haunting instrumental version of "A Soldier's Story" that effectively presages his elegiac Once Upon A Time in The West and "Il Bandito Monco" significantly add to its expansive scope, firmly restating its claim as Morricone's first true classic. -- Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Even better without the imagery.......2007-05-12

One of the problems with listening to soundtracks, especially from movies that you are pretty familar with, is that music seems irrevocably tied with the visual imagery of the film. And while this is also true in this case-- the haunting, and by now culturally cliche motif at the heart of the film-- taking the visual away from the music lets you appreciate the music on its own. The "dessert" segment, which in the movie is merely backround, has a life and shape of it's own. With the exception of the oveture and final peice (the most familar to a movie goer) the rest of the music, taken out of the context of the film, has a vibrant, spirited life of its own.

You can listen to this for its own sake--and should.

5 out of 5 stars Marvelous expaned soundtrack........2007-03-24

Title says it all! I have the original, shorter, release on vinyl and was looking to get it on CD. This expanded version is great. Would recommend it for anyone who is a fan of G.B.U.

5 out of 5 stars The Good The Bad & The Ugly.......2007-02-12

I wanted the soundtrack from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for a picture video I am doing for my husband's 60th birthday. We have the soundtrack on an album. He loves the movie and the music. I thought I would have trouble getting it on a CD but you proved me wrong. My first try and I found the CD. He does alot of hunting so I am going to use the music for those pictures. Thanks for making it so easy for someone with little experience on the internet to find what I wanted.

1 out of 5 stars Go With The Import........2007-02-08

Get the import "Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo", by GDM. The sound quality is ten fold better. The expanded version does not do Morricone's talent any justice. And it still has the abridged version of "The Trio".

A bit off topic, I found the same problem with Ikura Ifukube. Again a brilliant composer (known for Godzilla), again short changed by American released CD's. Always go for the import it seems.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic.......2007-01-09

Just like "Two Mules for Sister Sara" and "For A Few Dollars More", a must have, can't go wrong soundtrack. Love It!

The latest Jerry Bruckheimer production focuses on five twenty-something women working their way through life at a fashionable bar in New York City. Four new LeAnn Rimes tracks highlight this collection. Though all from the pen of veteran songwriter Diane Warren, the tracks vary in style from diva pop ("Fight the Moonlight") to sentimental musings ("Please Remember"). It's only a matter of time before Rimes leaves country music completely behind for the sleek modern world of mainstream pop. The remaining songs are a hodgepodge of different eras. EMF's "Unbelievable" and Snap's "The Power" hark back to the early 1990s, while Don Henley and INXS deliver the dancebeat kick of the '80s. The firing fiddle of the Charlie Daniels Band's 1979 hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" seems out of context here. But then, this bar must have one odd jukebox to begin with. --Rob O'Connor

2 out of 5 stars Not My Style.......2007-05-11

This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

5 out of 5 stars Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Western Music.......2005-07-29

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

5 out of 5 stars A great follow-up.......2003-08-29

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars music frm the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.......2007-08-01

If you like instrumentals, you wont be disappointed with Montenegro's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. You can picture yourself setting around a camp fire, out out in the middle of nowhere with this music. It is very captivating. My wife and I fight over it all the time.

4 out of 5 stars Music from'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly' & 'A Fistful Of Dollars' &'For A Few Dollars More'.......2007-06-13

I grew up with the Spaggetti Westerns and these were my favorite, so when I had a chance to purchase on CD what I had on vinyl I grabbed the chance. The music gives on the sense of power, suspense, and feeling macho of being there and standing down an oppenent.

2 out of 5 stars Has No Pizzaz.......2007-04-12

This is pleasant enough listening, but after hearing the original performances, this is a watered-down version that has none of the haunting, sharp and unique sound that the originals had. I remember this album cover very well when it was first released as an LP record and a lot of copies must have sold. I am not sure why. Just buy the original soundtracks instead of this poor substitute.

3 out of 5 stars NOT the original motion picture soundtrack ........2007-02-22

This is not the original motion picture soundtrack . I felt disappointed , and a little bet insulted when I first listened to this album . the wild cries in the good , the bad and the ugly theme got replaced with flutes , guitars and drums - not the marching band drums but the beach boys drums - are included in all the tracks , and the macho chants muffled .

This is , shall we say the danceable version , the tribute version , the lounge music version , the politically correct version , an elevator music version and to sum it all up , not the original motion picture soundtrack.

It still manages to give the illusion of listening to the original, but that's it .

Should've paid more attention to other customer reviews , not just the ones on the top.I wouldn't have bought it if I new it was a tribute album .

Pick up the originals if you want to relive those wild and fresh scenes from the trilogy.

3 out of 5 stars No Fistful of Ennio.......2007-01-31

Ennio Morricone wrote great soundtrack music, that's for certain. But no retrospective of his work is complete without the inclusion of more than one lone example from the three mid-60's "spaghetti westerns" he scored for Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood. Anyone familiar with the UNITED ARTISTS label LPs of "Fistful Of Dollars," "For A Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" might agree with this.

As for what's here-- most of ENNIO MORRICONE * FILM MUSIC Volume 1 is forgettable incidental stuff. Except for "The Battle Of Algiers (Theme)," the opening and closing tracks are the best. They bookend what turns out to be a disappointing collection, lacking in both liner notes and the brilliance Morricone demonstrated over a 30 year span.

5 out of 5 stars I would call some of these pieces "newage"..........2006-08-02

Moscow Farewell is definitely my pick of the lot. Sacco And Vanzetti was a pleasant surprise once I listened to it a couple of times. It is lively and could be played on a wedding dance floor for the whole family. This is great album to listen to while in bed!

5 out of 5 stars Simply a 'Must Purchase' for those with a passing interest in Morricone's work.......2005-09-13

Arguably one of the greatest (if not the greatest) Film composer of the 20th Century. Not only has he scored some of the most influential and instantly recognisable pieces of film music during his roughly 50 years of composing atmospheric film scores. Whether he's providing the spooky dramatics for a spaghetti Western" or constructing the ingenious use of classical arrangements of brooding cinematic pieces, he has (in most cases) consistently delivered contemporary music that has provided the atmospheric foil for the picture in question. And with a collection of musical influences that were as far ranging as: classical, jazz, pop, rock, electronic, avant-garde, and Italian music, he is able to deliver a variety of film scores that are as diverse as they are beautifully composed.

This compilation is collection of some of the seminal, gritty, theatrical, and dramatic film music, that would go on to define his career, via reflective orchestration and memorable motifs, ingenious use of diverse arrangements and instrumentation. There is a majority of his highlights on this disc, with the magnificently brooding "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" opening the disk. what follows is a truly sublime collection of music that is in parts truly beautiful and utterly atmospheric, so tracks such as "Once Upon A Time In The West", benefit from the haunting melodies and stirring volins, that are possibly more in tone with orchestrated music than contemporary music. Or the quiet piano introspection and melancholic arrangements that make up "Moscow Farewell", are simply deserving of being placed amongst the finest soundtrack compositions ever. "Dedicace", contains some of the most litting melodies in recent memory, impossibly sad and affecting, it is a haunting bittersweet composition that is both organic & reflective, over which the volins provide the musical backdrop. And that's without the mention of "For Love One Can Die", the autumnal orchestrated track, that pulls from Italian sweeping gangster original film scores, and makes a hushed and dissonant recording, that feels like a sublime throwback to the mafia-related shenanigans of 60's chicago via the use of restrained piano, that really is quite lovely and adds substantial weight to the composition.

If you are looking for a Ennio Morricone compilation....short of buying a boxset, you'd be hard pressed in beating this for value for money. It's a fantastic summary of his work and covers a fair amount of material. And is the perfect introduction to his work, (especially if you just want to buy one compilation of his work). This is highly recommended to fans both old and new, and is boosted by the compilers making a great job of the selection. So if you don't want to have to splash out on an expensive disk, to hear his influential work...this really is the first place you should start.

5 out of 5 stars ENNIO MORRICONE - FILM MUSIC, VOL. 1 .......2005-08-16

HAVING HEARD EXERPTS OF THE MUSIC BEFORE, IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I
WANTED.

5 out of 5 stars A collection of Morricone's most popular and entertaining.......2005-07-31

Volume I of III, of this 'best of' Morricone trilogy, is the best of the three. This volume consists of music that can be listened to alone and socially, with some of the most catchy and minimalist rhythms you'll ever hear. You'll listen to this album and wonder what movie you've heard that song from before(Morricone's canon being primarily for film scores). If you're hear because you're trying to get the song from a movie, and you've never really heard of Morricone before, then you've luckily stumbled upon some of the best music I've ever heard. Or, if you're a Morricone fan and you'er looking for a good compilation, since Morricone has done too many film scores to even possibly own them all, then this is good to have. I wouldn't really reccommend Volume II and III unless you're looking or a very comprehensive collection of Morricone, since Volume I seems to me to carry his most absolute best. Definetely buy this album, it's very good.

If you want to listen to real Hip Hop that doesn't involve guns, rims, boasting & crack.. then this is an album for you. Nothing flashy, just his outlook on life. Great CD. Try something different.. you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars A classic.......2007-03-13

This album will always live close to my heart. When i bought this i had just gone through with a bad breakup with my girl of 5 years
"F*ck you Lucky" really helped me through it. It basicly described the way i felt and got me through it. The rest of the CD is so full of emotion and feeling. Slug opens up and isnt afraid to show that he is weak in alot of ways and thats why hes sooo Beloved in our hometown of Minneap. RHYMESAYERS 4 LIFE

Buy the album.. you will love it

Atmosphere knows how to make music. The album 'God Loves Ugly' hit the spot with Ant's (the Producer/DJ) creative, head-bobbing, and catchy beats; Slug (the emcee) can hold the beat with his strong vocals, tech vocab, and strong emotions like no other emcee alive. This album is jam packed with great song after great song. I feel that they didn't go wrong with a single song on this album. Many of my friends who aren't even into 'rap' have asked me if I could tell them where they could get this CD. Once in your player it seems to stay for days, weeks, and months. GET IT! SUPPORT music that is real. GET IT!

Most kids seem to like this best. I love it, it was my first taste of Atmosphere, but other albums such as Lucy Ford, Seven Head Shots, and Seven's Travels seem tighter to me. But then, they're all awesome!

sorry it just did...too dramatic not enough party tracks. i guess if you want that it's cool. but i like people under the stairs and ugly duckling better.

5 out of 5 stars EASTWOOD IS ALSO A GREAT SONGWRITER.......2007-06-11

This is a "semi" career spanning CD (and the only decent one in existence) of the movie themes from some great Eastwood movies. The earlier pieces are from his days in TV and transition to movies. The more mature work with Lennie Niehaus displays Clint's artistry, no not only as an actor, award winning director, but great composer. My only complaint is the disc is missing the off-beat and totally original jazzy "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" from THE GAUNTLET.

The disc does contain his wonderful A PERFECT WORLD and THE UNFORGIVEN. Why Eastwood never won an Oscar for some of his original scores is a mystery to me. He is more celebrated as a director than as an actor only because he won more awards in that category and his acting style was known for it's low-keyed and reactionary style. But the Clint Eastwood the musician cannot be dismissed and here is that more than proves his versatility. A known jazz lover, for fans of that genre, give a listen to WHY SHOULD I CARE from "True Crime", another great Eastwood composition.

The remainder of the disc is a salute to Eastwood and his work with a heavy emphasis on the jazz.

First rate. I've been a fan since his directoral debut in PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Little did I realize what a great composer he would turn out to be.

A must for any fans as there are no single soundtacks available from his movies featuring his work.

5 out of 5 stars Play Misty For Me.......2005-12-20

Nearly an hour and 20 minutes of "Music For the Movies of Clint Eastwood". What fan wouldn't be happy with this CD? 23 Tracks, and a great compilation. From the early TV days, the "Theme from Rawhide"(this was about the time I fell in love with Clint, I think I was about 8)performed by Frankie Lane, and Spaghetti Western, the "The, Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"(does anyone REALLY know the words to this one, and does it really matter?)to the romantic Doe Eyes"(the love theme from "Bridges of Madison County", the music will have you reliving the great moments from great films that just say Clint!

The first half of the album features both Clint's own works and the fabulous talented composers he has worked with. Ennio Moricone's oh so recognizable style("The Good, The Bad and the Ugly"), the moving music of Lennie Niehaus("Pale Rider"), the haunting sounds from Lalo Schfrin("Dirty Harry Theme", where you will relive Clint doing the, "Do you feel lucky punk?" speech), and some other wonderful musicians including the great Civil War and Western sounding "Theme from Outlaw Josey Wales", by Jerry Fielding, and Erroll Garner's"Play Misty For Me", a gorgeous piano rendition. Some of Clint's own works, included are "Claudia's Theme" from "Unforgiven" "Kate's Theme" from "Absolute Power", "Big Fran's Baby" from "A Perfect World", and of course the mesmerizing and above mentioned "Doe Eyes".

Second half is a 10 part instrumental suite, "Clint Eastwood, An American Filmmaker Suite". This is music composed and conducted by Lennie Niehaus for the PBS "American Masters" documentary " Eastwood: Out of the Shadows" The music tells Clint's story musically, and it flows beautifully and emotionally. It has a little of everyting, including some great jazzy numbers. The orchestration and the musicians capture the journey wonderfully. For list of all 23 track titles, see buying info. You can also listen to samples from there.

The quality of the CD is excellent. A pamphlet with some production notes, and the tracks is included. There are some great pix of Clint as well. It doesn't have ALL his films included. Hopefully the music form "Kelly's Heroes"("Burning Bridges) and "The Beguiled"(more from Lalo Schifrin) will make the sequel album!

Take it in your car and listen to it when you are stuck in traffic, and it will take you somewhere else for a while.Just say "Play Misty For Me" and hit track 8. Highly recommended for the Eastwood fan. And for those that can't get enough, I would also recommend the soundtrack to "Bridges of Madison County". One of the most romantic albums I ever heard.

"Head 'Em Up, Move 'Em On....Keep Them Doggies Rollin...Rawhide!"

Enjoy....Laurie

4 out of 5 stars "Go ahead, make your day!".......2004-06-21

There's really not too much to say about this, except that any big fan of "Clint Eastwood", or at least the majority of these movies should like this. What I enjoy most are the tracks from his westerns, as they all set a nice mood, but the rest are very good as well. I can't help but think this would have been twice as good had it contained dialogue from each of these films too. Overall a great collection for the fan. After all, if there's one thing "Clint" knows about as much as his acting, it's his music.

5 out of 5 stars Excellence!.......2007-04-22

These recordings range back to 1994, with a number of tracks being from Silva Screen's "Music from the Films of Clint Eatwood" compilation, with Derek Wadsworth conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic.

Those tracks are: "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "A Fistful of DOllars", "For a Few Dollars More", and "Two Mules for Sister Sara". "In The Line Of Fire' also appeared on that CD, performed electronically by Mark Ayres.

The next bunch of tracks is from Silva Screen's 1996 compilation, "Cinema Paradise: The Classic Film Music of Ennio Morricone", which included the majority of tracks here such as the extensive The Mission Suite, The Untouchables, Casulaties of War, Once Upon a Time In America, 1900, Chi Mai, Marco Polo, Once Upon a Time In The West (two tracks), Cinema Paradise, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly - Ecstacy of Gold, mostly being conducted by Paul Bateman, with Nic Raine doing some of the conducting duties as well.

Hamlet is from Silva's 1997 "Cinema's Classic Romances" compilation, while "The Thing" is from Silva's 2001 "Essential John Carpenter".

A Fistful of Dynamite - Duck You Sucker is from 2002's Way Out West: Essential Western Film Music Collection Volume Two.

The remaing tracks were newly recorded in 2004 for this release:
Days of Heaven, Exorcist II, Guns for San Sebastian, Moses the Lawgiver, My Name is Nobody, The Five Man Army, The Red Tent, The Men From Shiloh and The Sicilian Clan.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars "his domain of film scoring is legendary ~ Ennio Morricone".......2004-10-07

Silva America once again has outdone themselves with "Once Upon A Time:The Essential Ennio Morricone Film Music Collection", a double disc collection worth their weight in GOLD! ~ Morricone creates visual moods for each film he scores...action, adventure, mystery, romance, sentimental and suspense...the list could go on.

Ennio Morricone was born in Rome on October 11, 1928...attended the Santa Cecilia Conservatory...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s, then the WESTERNS and his name became a household word in the film industry ~ a new kind of western was on the horizon and Morricone was commissioned to score "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS" [1964] for Sergio Leone featuring Clint Eastwood, spaghetti westerns were born ~ next "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE" [1965] ~ and a bigger budget film "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" [1966], again featuring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and a third Eli Wallach whose performance was magical to watch on the big screen ~ violence and revenge gives Morricone an opportunity to feature electric guitars, flutes and jew's harp blending with a non lyrical chorus mixed with brass, strings, percussion with full orchestration that simply took your breath away...example is "ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST" [1968], featuring Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale, Jason Robards and our hero Charles Bronson the mysterious harmonica player, director Sergio Leone's tribute to the American Western, pulled out all the stops ~ the Western was just a small part of Maestro Morricone's career, in the next paragraph take a gander of just what our icon of film music accomplished.

Our composer didn't stop there as "ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA" [1984], featuring Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern, another Sergio Leone film..."THE MISSION" [1986], featuring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons and Aldan Quinn, is probably one of Morricone's crowning scores receiving an Academy Award nomination, very haunting and classical genre in substance..."THE UNTOUCHABLES" [1987], featuring Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro during the Al Capone '30s crime organization, Morricone conjures a powerful and dynamic arrangement of his unmistakable theme..."CINEMA PARADISO" [1988], featuring Phillippe Noiret, Antonella Attili and Pupella Maggio from director Giuseppe Tomatore as he recalls his early childhood, the score immediately captures your heart, so tender and compelling as Morricone can only deliver.

City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra featuring conductors Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine, Derek Wadsworth ~ Crouch End Festival Chorus featuring Choir Master David Temple ~ vocals performed by Charlotte Kinder, Marie Kopecka and Jill Washington ~ guitar, percussion and keyboards performed by Gareth Williams ~ all in all did a magnicent job in bringing the music of a composer who wrote for over 250 films, receiving recognition from the industry and fans which was long over-due ~ his work is in constant demand, scoring as many as over a half dozen films as year.

This collection contains an overlay of each cue in Morricone's distinctive style of legendary scoring ~ the man who made this possible, a tremendous asset to every project he undertakes is James Fitzpatrick [producer of the album] ~ symphonic suites with full orchestra fullfilling the "film-score-buffs" cravings for more of the same, just the way we like 'em!

4 out of 5 stars Actually these chaps were very wanted at the time.......2006-07-12

UKJ come into town on their one trick pony. The whole schtick of appealing to normal middle class kids desperate to think the world is against them.... Well the packaging sets that trick up nicely along with the title choice. Not to mention the song Neighbour as lead song.

But darn it all this pretty much works. Sure it's based on nothin' but air, a few squared off riffs and Whitfield Cranes engaging vocals but most of the time when you reach for the skip button something stops your hand. Tracks such as Come Tomorrow and Panhandlin' Prince work their witless charm though when the delve too deeply into whimsical territory things fall over (see Busy Bee).

Madman and Everything About You are regurgitated from the debut EP and everyone at the time became familiar with the bands take on Cats in the Cradle. This tune split many at the time - dunno 'bout you but I always felt the original spoke louder to parents, while UKJ's version with it's more youthful attack spoke more clearly to those not yet dads.

In summation a totally non essential release but definitely a good party album full of irreverent lyrics and simple cartoon style songs - some of which have some surprising heft such as Goddam Devil. Not to mention the closer, the track Mr Recordman which has a spark of maturity about it.

4 out of 5 stars I Liked It.......2006-03-18

This album is highly entertaining. Good lyrics, good rhymes, funny, catchy tunes, it's got everything. Everytime I listen to it, the world feels like a better place. A real mood uplifter.

3 out of 5 stars Average.......2005-03-14

This album I would say is average maybe a little above. I'd say it has two down falls lyrics and variety. All the songs kinda sound the same and are about the same thing. Basically the singer tries to hard to be "Metal". I'd say that if your looking for something very simular go for Skid Row or Motley Crue who do sound much like this band. The worst idea of all was however to cover the song "Cats In The Cradle". Heres why, the song is basically about a son and father who don't have enough time for each other. When the son is young he wants to spend time with his dad but he is too busy and when the dad gets older he wants to spend time with his son but he's too busy. Than to the to singing "And the cats in the cradle and the sliver spoon little jimmy... and the man on the moon" what is that supposed to mean. On the postive even though the songs sound a lot alike the instrumentals and singing got a different sound from typical metal. Plus with a name like that you'd think they would just be extremely terrible which they are not. In the end if you want a real metal cd stay away but if you like poppy music you may like this.

4 out of 5 stars I guess some things just can't compete with Blizzard Beasts.......2005-02-03

Before you decide whether to call someone's opinion helpful, read their other reviews. This CD was not overlooked in its time and yes, millions of people did in fact buy it. It is incredibly funny and the band is moderately musically talented. The lyrics are inane but the riffs and solos are top-notch.
As far as posterity goes, people will probably not buy a million more copies of this CD in the future. However, they will remember a few songs on it with a nod and maybe a chuckle. That's more than we can say for anything Overkill or Hollowman has produced or ever will produce.

4 out of 5 stars not for the serous-minded .......2004-11-01

this patrick dude is obviously jealous that his folk down under don't have any famous bands (except AC/DC and midnight oil, which are beyond anyone's notion of "bad"). i'm writing this review simply because i'm (...)that some (...)writing (...) about someone who's died very young in a tragic bike accident (whitfield's dead,...). this is one of the albums i grew up with so it sort of has a sentimental value for me. anyone who picks this up looking for superb musicianship, creative arrangements and deep, philosophical lyrics and sh*t is either misguided or just a(...). this is simply care-free, humorous biker/surfer/glam rock at its best. anyone who's heard "everything about you" knows what they're in store for. UKJ have later on actually taken a slightly more "serious" turn with "motel califiornia", but this is still a great album. fun to listen to. i listen to a lot of various (...), . but i like this just as same. a simplistic, fun and catchy album. perfect soundtrack for a ride by the beach on a hot summer's day (topped off with a cold beer, of course). they might not have a street named after them and they might not floor you with their mind-boggling musicianship and intricate lyrics and ideas, but in every person's life there are moments when you get sick of that cr*p (especially during the summer, when you feel just too good and light-hearted for anything else). well, "america's least wanted" just might be what you need right then.
