Essential British Hardcore.......2006-04-24

GBH, along with DISCHARGE, were at the head of the punk/metal movement of the early 80's in England. Although both bands would probably consider themselves as true punks the reality is that their sonic assault owes as much to MOTORHEAD as to THE RAMONES. This compilation should satisfy those GBH fans looking for the ultra rare (and expensive) "THE CLAY YEARS" CD, as this CD contains all of the songs of "Clay Years" plus a newly remastered sound. The same thing goes for those looking for the "Leather, Bristles and Studs". These were GBH's first recordings and the sound is fast and loud and very similar to what DISCHARGE was up to. It's hard to say which songs are stand outs, but "Necrophilia", "Self Destruct", "Lycanthropy" and "Knife's Edge" are particularly amazing. This is the type of hardcore punk that is sorely missed and has virtually nothing to do with what parades as "punk" these days. The production, while primitive, is pretty ballsy and all instruments stand out and have a nice balance. MOTORHEAD fans should take notice as there is very little difference between this and early 80's MOTORHEAD.
Fans of early 80's/vintage hardcore punk should not let this album go by! You won't be disappointed!

You might think about getting this for your collection........2005-09-27

There are a lot of rare stuff in this comp. that isn't in some other comps or albums (like the first 3 tracks, Noddy, any late 80s material). Unless you have a comp from a different label, this is very good to have.

What can I say.. THIS ALBUM KICKS... It contains live tracks (Apocolypse Punk Tour 1981), Singles and Demos. All from the years of 1981 - 1984. If your a fan of this lot then there's stuff here that you are gonna find cool. For example, the demos (most notibly Noddy in the studio) show how the band "matured" (not often ya hear that) as the album progresses.
For people who are new to The League then I recommend this album and thier first album "We Are... The League". Tho don't let yer momma hear them, she prolly wouldn't appreciate all those naughty words.
The booklet comes with some background on the tracks, lyrics for some of the songs and even an intro written by Animal himself.
