Further proof that the 15-year-old male is the nexus of contemporary popular entertainment, this anthology of music from and "inspired by" the sequel to the earth-conquering Halo saga also showcases how capably the video game industry can trump even Hollywood's vaunted production values. The original synth-heavy underscore by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori is filled with enough brooding, mock-Goth atmospherics, and pulsing exotica of indeterminate ethnicity to give the Hans Zimmer stable a run for their money, while a slate of (mostly) worthy rock star guest turns give it a welcome edge. Legendary axe-slinger Steve Vai's sinewy riffing punches up the reworked main theme and "Never Surrender," while alt.metal contenders Breaking Benjamin serve up the suitably dramatic inspired-by cut "Blow Me Away." But it's Incubus' four-part "Odyssey" suite that's the centerpiece, bridging 1970s prog and modern rock with its moody aura and evocative musical dramatics. --Jerry McCulley

This CD stayed in my truck's CD player for months before getting tired of it. Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars Great game - great music.......2007-01-10

My son wanted this Cd. I had never sat long enough to listen to the music when he played Halo, so I didn't have a clue what I was buying. He let me listen to some of the tracks once it arrived and I had to "borrow" it from him so I could download the cd onto my pc. Needless to say I bought volume 2 and the original Halo soundtrack cd as well. They may belong to my son, but I love these cds too!

3 out of 5 stars Hug your pillows girls.......2006-08-06

THe only reason I am writing anything about this album is because it contains the Odyssey by Incubus, and its probably some of their best work and will go down as their most unnoticed. While the rest of your nerds are huggin your pillows at night thinking about your video games and the "gnarly instrumentals" on this album you sit there and bash Incubus' work. The first track by them, Follow, is not all that great however it was re-released on an additional cd with their Alive at Red Rocks DVD and it sounds sooooooo much better on that cd (with some real lyrics) But after listening to the Odyssey I was really hoping this to be a new direction for Incubus, a more proggressive/conceptual sound. Whether this is the direction they go on with their new album is yet to be heard. Its a shame that this work will go unnoticed, and the only reason it will be that way because a bunch of losers decide to try and impress people with (what they think) is a sense of music just because its of a classical nature. Yes, the rest of the music on the album is amazing, and I give big ups to its composition, but come on people, show some love to good music when its presented to your faces.

5 out of 5 stars best video game soundtrack ever........2006-08-03

i understand that many people are a bit angry with breaking benjamin and hoobastank being in here. i'm not particularly happy myself with the last track, but i think contemporary music is appropriate here, albeit lyrics may not be the greatest form of expressing the mysterious feeling behind everything. i think o'donnel and salvatori have what it takes to compose a score of music, but it's not a score, it's a soundtrack. i found that if you don't like them you can just skip them. the second to last track is a great way to end the soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars classical music listeners stop complaining.......2006-05-10

The worst part of this album was songs with lyrics (breaking benjamin, techno, hoobastank)...i dont understand then why people are upset with the incubus - follow has one word the whole song (two if you count "yeah") and their instrumental songs are brilliant, floyd-esque at times. for those of you reading others criticizing this album, ignore them, ignore the three bad songs on this album, and purchase it and enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars More than just a "classic".......2007-05-26

Paid in full is more than a classic. It was a masterpiece that is among the greatest records ever made in rap history. I'd say it was the perfect blend of catchy beats and rhymes that flowed like water. My favorite song of all time is My Melody especially when Rakim dropped "I'll take 7 mc's....." (u know the rest). I Ain't No Joke, Move The Crowd, I Know You Got Soul, and Paid in Full were also hot. This is one you gotta have in the collection cause it was one for the ages.

5 out of 5 stars A Pinnacle in Hip-Hop.......2007-04-03

1987's Paid In Full instantly upon its release set the height of the brass ring that every contender needed to aim for (and usually missed by a yard) in order to make a definitive rap album. By today's standards, the beats may be a little old-school and the master-of-the-microphone lyrics a bit out of date but the musicianship, style, and class are not to be ignored. As I said about Follow The Leader, it's refreshing in this day and age to be able to listen to a phenomenal rap album without hearing about bitches and the like. A landmark in rap and music in general. I own the 2005 reissue which has 3 bonus remixes and stellar sound.

5 out of 5 stars This one's for real........2007-02-12

Wow. I love this album. I am filing this one under Quality. This album is raw and experimental. The rhymes on here are ingenious and consistently creative. Paid in Full and I Know You Got Soul have to be two of my favorite songs ever. I don't want to be one of those old school whiners who complains how everything these days is crap and this is when it was done right, but upon listening to this I have to say that, wow, this is how it's done. And let me tell you, "the beat is fresh". Eric B. and Rakim were opening some innovative doors with this one. I have more to say but I got to get back to listening. Peace.

5 out of 5 stars It's THAT "Paid in Full".......2007-01-06

I should't really have much to say about "Paid in Full" that hasn't been said by all the other reviewers. Along with Run-DMC's earliest albums, this is one of the records that would go on to revolutionize hip hop and the music industry at large. This allowed rap music to make the shift from single-driven rap albums to entire LPs, and from looping party music to intelligent, musical, and original products. And even though "Paid in Full" is one of the blueprints of hip hop music and sounds a little dated (this is from 20 years ago, after all!) it's amazing to hear how completely relevant it is. I can't even begin to think of how many times I've heard the bassline from the title track sampled. This is without a doubt the most sampled album in hip hop history, I think I've heard each of the ten tracks sampled at one time or another. But besides its influence, this album is still a joy to listen to. Rakim's monotone flow delivers punchlines up the wazoo and perfected the style of bragadacio rap. This album would earn him the title of one of the greatest rappers of all time, a title that he would hold for the rest of his life. Rakim's lyrics still sound ten times as fresh as 90% of today's rappers, and Eric B's bass and sample heavy grooves are still enough to make my head bob every time. James Brown was a favorite sampling subject, and he also introduced heavy horn instrumentation and vocal samples along with his hard drumbeats in many of the songs. Every song here is a classic and that's more than can be said of almost any other piece of music. "Paid in Full" is one of a select few rap albums that was completely revolutionary and is a must have for any hip hop collection.

The album begins with "I Ain't No Joke," a song where Rakim represents the duo and boasts of their talent as musicians, over a catchy saxophone-laced beat. The entertaining instrumental "Eric B Is on the Cut" follows, preceding the heavy and infamous "My Melody." The thumping drums and bass on this track are excellent, as are Rakim's legendary rap verses. "I Know You Got Soul" is upbeat and lyrically inventive. "Move the Crowd" is a product of excellent sampling of funky horn instrumentation and another great job by Rakim. The previously mentioned title cut is probably the most well-known instrumental on the album, having the phenomenal, oft-used bassline and fun lyrics. "As the Rhyme Goes On" follows, containing so many simple yet classic lines ("I'm the R, the A to the K-I-M / If I wasn't, then why would I say I am?"). "Chinese Arithmetic" is the most musically inventive, using an Asian instrumental along with the hard snare. The phenomenal "Eric B Is President" will forever be considered a masterpiece, and the closing instrumental "Extended Beat" is a nice touch.

"Paid in Full" is every bit the masterpiece that its legend would suggest, both musically and lyrically. It sounds like a cliche, but it is true that if it were not for "Paid in Full," hip hop would not sound quite the way it does today. I highly recommend that any fan of hip hop shell out ten bucks to own one of the most respected pieces of hip hop music ever. This is legendary for a reason, and is plain fun to listen to besides.

5 out of 5 stars (Rating: 10 out of 10) So This Is What People Were Bumping Back In Eighty-Six.......2006-10-08

"My favourite rappers used to say 'check-check out My Melody'" -50 Cent from The Game's "Hate It Or Love It" (sorry for quoting him on this review).

Hearing rappers between 1993 and today, a lot of them quote Rakim or said that he was their influence. But after watching the "I Ain't No Joke" on BET one day, I immediately went and bought this album. Rakim's rhymes were a good distance ahead of their time. Listening to the long track "My Melody" would perfectly describe how his wordplay was. And what I like about this album is everything is so basic, no gimmics or anything compared to other albums I've heard. Another one of my favorites is the well known "Paid In Full" (I'd be here all day naming the artists that bit this song) as Rakim starts off the song "Thinking of a master plan/it ain't nothing but sweat inside my hand..."(and you know the rest...).

But Rakim isn't the only person who was involved in this classic. DJ Eric B. contibutes just as much as Rakim does. His cuts are outstanding. "Eric B. Is On The Cut" as well as the creative "Chineese Arithmetic" are dope as hell. Production is 80's flavor, so thats good. It might be odd for some people to think 10 tracks makes the album kind of short, but many albums from the 80's were about the same length.

This album is a classic to name. I'm pretty sure people were playing this album like crazy back in the day. Me and this album are roughly the same age, and having discover this here I see where many artists got their style from. If you're a new hip hop head, this is another one of those albums that belongs in your starter kit. Each album that this group made together is dope (I personally like "Follow The Leader" better than this one) and recommend that you check out all of them.

Despite the middling quality of his previous two albums, Snoop Dogg's sixth full-length effort firmly places this "professor of G-ology" back on top of the game. Snoop comes off surprisingly spry on Paid tha Cost, offering one of his best-balanced albums in years. His pimpalistic style is still draped in silk and fur, especially on "Bo$$ Playa," "Suited 'n' Booted," and "Ballin'." But "I Believe in You" is an unexpectedly sensitive, irony-free love ballad, while Snoop's pairings with the Neptunes and Gang Starr's DJ Premier result in two of his hardest hitting cuts ever, "From tha Chuuuch to da Palace" and "The One and Only" respectively. Combine this with his unfettered attack on Suge Knight ("Pimp Slapp'd") and this is a Snoop Dogg charging forward rather than lazily leaning back. Taking the helm at the dawn of the new decade, this old Dogg still has some new tricks. --Oliver Wang

Ha ha ha!!!! I know why you haven't sent a review full of comebacks. Exactly you got your a** kicked, admit it. You are with no doubt one of the worst reviewers on amazon. At least I didn't have to write a whole lot hate reviews to get the amount helpful votes i've got. I know there are a lot of other dumb haters like yourself who will give you helpful votes for your stupid hate reviews. Snoop Dogg is tha doggfather of rap and is better than Nas and Eminem any day and if you don't like it than you can suck his d***. I can see you simply have no idea what your talking about. When you say you'd judge records as good records despite the offensive content, than why did you leave Doggystyle the same review and rating. Well you admitted that you enjoyed Gin And Juice. You couldn't grasp all his misogyny when you were 11 so you enjoyed it. Then you get put off when you work out that it has offensiveness, but its enjoyable despite that. Doggystyle is a sensational production and very easily the best rap album of all time. I think you'd better delete your review for Doggystyle, because you only judged it on its offensiveness to woman and you should have judged it as a good record despite that. Why did you tell me I don't look like Einstein, well your hating, hypocrisy and arrogance ain't making you look like a genius either. I honestly have no idea why you think amazon needs your reviews. Reviews on this site are actually supposed to help customers to chose whether or not to buy the product. You hardly ever even discuss the products, mostly you just plain talk rubbish about the people. I can't why amazon excepts your reviews. Oh and I read your comeback on Dixie Chick's Fly for S Moore from Texas. Obviously you don't care about anyone on amazon other than yourself. People are sick of your dumb a** reviews and your so arrogant that you don't care about what they think, why are you being a hypocrite by saying Bill Maher is arrogant and thinks the majority of America is dumb when you present yourself exactly the same. I suppose you've met Snoop Dogg and he said hi Biaaaatch and slapped you in the face or something, huh? Well unless you have than your presenting yourself dumber than a box of rocks for thinking that just because he talks like that when his being recorded that his like that in real life. He also talks about murdering people, do you really think that he does all that, confesses it in his music and stays out of jail?, Well if your thinking that he in real life does hate woman than you must also think that he actually also goes out and murders people and sells drugs etc when his got about 50 million in the bank and he hasn't gotten any jail sentences yet. You have no evidence to support your arguement that his actually like that in real life when you've never been around him when his not being recorded. Its just the whole gangsta character, all gangstas talk about that sort of stuff in their music. And you think that Snoop Dogg fans have an I.Q. equal to their shoe size. God well you seem to be a fan of Eminem and he curses a hell of a lot, talks for a good amount of time about raping and killing woman and talks about being gangsta and s***. You said most of his music is really good and a good percentage of it contains a good amount of the things I listed. So if what you said is true than you must have an I.Q. the same as the people your accusing. Fans aren't dumb, haters are dumb as f***!!!!!

Snoop did alright with this release. Its a pity he can't do as good as Doggystyle but its still alright. I'm a diehard fan of Snoop so I had to get this and being such a big fan I was able to enjoy it. He has his amazing voice and a few dope beats. This is another album for all Snoop fans.

4 out of 5 stars Hey Alica Jiles Right Guess Who's Back.......2006-07-31

Thanks for saying something for everything I said in my review as Tupac. Now how about I do the same thing to you.
Paid Da Cost...isn't a good record, therefore it doesn't deserve a good rating.
_Now you tell me, you didn't say s*** about what you thought of the record in your whole review.

You must be if Snoop Dogg is one of your favorite rappers.
-So i'm dumb just because I can enjoy good hip hop music, I get it.

If you know it, it makes me wonder why you like it so much, unless you share the same sexist mentality. That's something I wouldn't readily admit if I were you.
-How about the fact that not all of us are concerned with the s*** your concerned with, jacka**. If you think that anyone who can enjoy Snoop's music shares the same sexist mentality, think again.

Hmmm, more misogyny. Seems like Snoop Dogg's lyrics are rubbing off on you: calling a woman a "biotch." Very original. Who says rap music holds no effect on its listeners? Also, why do YOU have the right to express your opinions, but I don't? More sexism.
-Ever heard of an insult? Rap music hasn't effected me 1 bit, I just like to insult retards like you who can't take a hint. Well if you want to p** people off with your stupid reviews than go ahead. Just proves that your a pure idiot and a vindictive cow.

No Eminem is not more offensive. Furthermore, Paid Tha Cost... is not a good record. If it were, I would judge it as a good record despite the offensive content. If you want to do background checks, I suggest you look at ALL my reviews, not just the ones that help your argument.
-If you don't think that Eminem is at least as offensive than why not stop writing dumb reviews and go and listen to some of his albums? Well like I said, now you tell me what you think of the record. You never said s*** about it in your review. Well just because you don't like it doesn't mean its a bad record. Also you gave Snoop's Doggystyle the same review and rating and its one of the top rap CDs of all time. Explain that? Honestly, You can't be serious about your reviews. Your a joke, get over it.

I guess if having a problem with the way ghetto morons are degrading and mistreating women and showing that they have absolutely no class is a sign of idiocy, then I'll be an idiot. Furthermore, your rant doesn't exactly make you look like Einstein.
-Why don't you just forget about it. Who's forcing you to listen to Snoop? If your life is having a problem with music artists you don't even have to listen to than get a life! Thanks for saying i'm no Einstein, Lots of people consider me a nerd and i'm glad you don't think so.

I know you probably abuse women and think you're the boss of them, but I'm not one of your ho-es. Don't tell me what to do.
-Your determined to spend your whole life being a total [...], aren't you? Why are you s*** talking on Snoop?, he doesn't s*** talk on you.

Fo-sheezy my neezy - Hmm it looks like the Snoop hater is talking Snoop talk, How pathetic you are.

Any way this is an alright Snoop album. I miss the old Snoop Doggy Dogg however I lke all Snoop's albums. My fave famous song would have to be From Tha Chuuuch To Da Palace and my fave non famous song would have to be Bo$$ Playa. I own all of Snoop's albums and this isn't my best but I would'nt say its my worst. If you like this you should alos get albums like Da Game Is To Be Sold Not To Be Told, No Limit Top Dogg and Tha Last Meal.

Well well well, I knew you'd come back with a neg review. Well i'll just give you another neg review. No i'm not some stupid sex friek and even if I was as if i'd want to like you said pull my pants down in front of someone as ugly as you if my life depended on it. Yeah i'm a Snoop fan so what? the problem with you is you seem to have a problem with that. Reviews posted on this site are actually supposed to help customers to chose whether or not to buy it. Yeah his offensive to woman boo hoo. I don't see any other woman having a cry on this site like you do. That may be because most woman are grown up enough to except that CDs like this are out there and they just don't have to listen to them. I may feel different about Snoop if I was a woman however if I was a woman i'd really give all the crying about it a miss. I understand, however if your life is hating on people like Snoop for this than get a life. I'm sorry but Eminem is very offensive to woman. He even talks about killing woman let alone raping them and calling them bad names. So don't even get me started on that. I'm trying to tell you what to do as if your my b**** or some s*** like that am I, seriously give me a break your way to old for me miss. I'm just saying your reviews are very useless and inappropriate and anyone who says they are helpful is dumb as hell. You need to learn to stick to your own s***. If you hate Snoop's albums so much than why waste time writing unhelpful reviews? And seriously get over your whole attitude, you sound like a spoilt teenager in your neg review on me. And that s*** you said about me not being Einstein, thanks I'm glad that someone doesn't consider me a nerd.

Go ahead write another neg review full of smart a** comments. I will just laugh at you.

I'll write about the album now that i've got that over with. This is definitely not Snoop at his best however if you are a diehard fan you can appreciate this. Snoop's voice is definitely not a let down, it is just something you can't not like. My fave famous song would have to be From Tha Chuuuch To Da Palace and my fave non famous song would have to be Bo$$ Playa. This wouldn't be Snoop's best no limit but it is still kick a** material

I'm so sick of this "Alicia Jiles Right" moron. I can't figure this clown out, she gave Eminem's music 5 stars and said its really good and Eminem is just as if not more offensive to women as Snoop Dogg. You obviously think we're all dumb don't you? Snoop Dogg disrespects woman etc do you think we don't know that? I don't know you but I bet your are pure idiot. Lay off Snoop Dogg and any other rappers your trashing neg reviews on. Keep your f***** opinions to yourself Biotch!

Anyway I miss the old Snoop Doggy Dogg. It seems this guy can't top his debut however if you are a fan of Snoop like me you should purchase this album along with all the others

As usual, the Supersuckers come out with both barrels blazing and all bottles empty on this six-song EP, which spotlights disaster-prone relationships, disparities between man and woman, and long days on the road--all with the hard-charging, gut-busting approach the Seattle-based band has relied on for 15 years. The full-throttle title track is the first of four new songs, and it revs up on the raunchy riffs of Dan "Thunder" Bolton before giving way to an apologetic ballad that lead singer Eddie Spaghetti wraps his vocal cords around like a country radio player. The band needs just 97 ear-splitting seconds to proclaim its many affections in "I Like It All, Man," which segues contentedly into the catchy "Here I Am," a Spaghetti confessional that crosses off all the rock-star trappings. And what is a Supersuckers record without tongues planted firmly in cheek? Two long-time favorites, "Roadworn and Weary" and "Creepy Jackalope Eye," that wind down the party, were both re-recorded on 6/6/6. --Scott Holter

Saw the Little Steven's tour last night, and the Supersuckers didn't disappoint. They played "Paid" and rocked the house. Good tune that fits in well with their line-up of great songs.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the purchase.......2006-10-17

This EP has been met with some mixed reviews (not just on here, but within my group of friends as well), but I'm going to tilt the scales some more in favor of it because I absolutely love it. It brings you a nice sampling of everything the 'suckers are great at. Having heard Breaking Honey's Heart live a few times prior to this release, I was pleasantly surprised that it's on the EP as a slower track. I like the sped up, rockin version they play live, but I like this one just as much. I know that some people don't like the reworked versions of Roadworn & Weary and Creepy Jackalope Eye. Some even think of it as "cheating" to re-work 2 previously done songs for a 6 track EP. And that's cool if you like the original styles better, but it is definitely a treat to have a rocked out version of Roadworn & Weary as well as a mellow, bluesier version of Creepy Jackalope Eye. I personally feel that when bands rework their songs, especially when they do it right, it forces you to take a step back and re-examine your perspective on the song. All in all, this EP is an excellent release, I adore it, and I think it is a fine example of why the 'suckers are the greatest rock n roll band in the world.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet, and syrupy; just the way it should be........2006-10-12

Chamillionaire and Paul Wall are two of the few emcees I like in the mainstream scene. It's not because they have anything truly provocative to say, but simply because they present their rap with so much flair and style, that it's impossible to overlook them. Chamillionaire has gone a more lyrical route, while Paul Wall is continuing the subject matter that the Screwed Up Click made famous in the underground in the mid-nineties. On this release, it's easy to tell both men were brought up listening to Screw's music, much like the rest of the Houston scene, and they use the perfect mix of harmonizing flows about 'Lacs and grills, over trippy, and hypnotic beats.

While it's true that Paul nor Chamillionaire are profound lyricists, dropping GZA knowledge on this release, they are both damn good rappers, able to flip sweet punchlines galore. Clever metaphores abound throughout this album, while Chamillionaire sings the hooks in each song. I know Cham gets some flack for singing the hooks in his songs, and has even be labeled "50 Cent Jr." by some people because of it, but for the Chamillionaire detractors, face it; Chamillionaire has a slick voice, and is one of the few rappers who SHOULD handle his own hooks(the only other I can think of is Cee-Lo, and, well, he's made a career out of crooning now).

The Swishahouse crew handle production duties, and as one would expect, that's a good thing. It's hard to get an album sounding this authentic to the Houston sound Screw crafted over a decade ago, but 4 years ago, Swishahouse brought it; and they're still bringing the tight production today. These aren't songs to 'get crunk' to; these are songs to chill to. This is an ideal album to listen to whether you're taking a late night drive, or simply chilling out in your home with your headphones on. Calm, cool, and downright dope, the production on this album matches the charismatic duo perfectly.

If you're a fan of the H-Town sound, then this is perfect for you. Even if you're not, it's still incredibly difficult not to love this release. If you can find it, pick it up. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Still N Luv Wit My $$$.......2006-02-12

I had just moved back to Houston from Seattle when this LP dropped and was in heavy radio-rotation around H-Town. Being away from the South for so long actually made me come back with a greater appreciation for Southern hip hop and the H-Town sound.

This probably isn't the album 4 you if you're looking for a Nas' "Illmatic," Jay-Z "Reasonable Doubt" or Wu-Tang "36 Chambers" type of album -- lyrical masterpieces.

That's not to hate on Paul and Cham b/c they got somethin' 2 say.

This is definitely an album you can ride 2 ... N Luv With My Money is still one of my favorites.

It's really too bad Paul and Cham fell out after this album though I'm not sure I'd even want them to try to top this LP if they got right again.

Fun, fun, fun hip hop album. Recommended for those who like to chill, have a good time and ride to some highly entertaining hiphop music.

    4 out of 5 stars Worthwhile.......2006-02-08

I enjoyed this CD quite a bit. The production is pretty good, while both rappers do show some nice lyricism throughout the CD. In my opinion does a better job than Paul Wall, but that's just me. Either way, this CD is worth buying.

anybody who likes chamillionare is trippin'. his flows are weak and his lyrics are weaker. come on "bullet proof vest on my chest so i won't get shot by cupid". is he still in kindergarten cause his flows sound like he's on a playground. paul wall is ok but he should stick to his day job makin' grillz. chamillionare needs to take his iced chain and melt it into a pacifier cause he's still an infant in da game.

5 out of 5 stars The Only Good Album With Paul Wall.......2005-11-06

Ladies and Gentleman....... Koopa is the King..... This album I have owned for a number of years and is still my favorite Chamillionaire album ever... This is such a good album even Paul Wall was good... In case you dont already know this album unlike Controversy Sells was approved by Chamillion and Paul Wall... This is not a garbage thrown together album like Controversy Sells and if you have never heard a Chamillion album this should definetly be your first and if you have never heard a Paul Wall album then you should only buy this one cause all the others with exceptions for The Color Changin Click albums is Boo-Boo... I knew it 5 years ago I still know it today when the Sound Of Revenge drops the sky is the limit for the Color Changin Reptile... Dyke Jones Phoney

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars FIRE!!!!!.......2005-11-04

After listening to it non-stop since I got it last week, my verdict is this. It is clear that this sincere, gifted girl loves JESUS and is not ashamed of it. Yet, at the same time she comes CORRECT with a tight R&B style that could easily get played with all those hits on secular radio...And yes I appreciate the way she sings about RELATIONSHIPS (gasp!), because she is teaching these cats out here that you can sing beautiful songs about marriage and relationships and so forth and yet you don't have to get FREAKY to do it! ("If you want a freak boy that ain't me/If you want a one-night stand boy that ain't me" - now how many times do we get to hear that message on the radio??!!)
So, needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend this CD. First off, the vocals are beautiful - she has such a pretty tone which is a notch above most that you hear today, she is truly GIFTED vocally and I always appreciate being able to hear some pipes on an album. Also, the songs are real, talking about some of the things people are REALLY going through, ya heard? And the message is Christ - take a listen to No 2, 3 (I LOVE this one - creative), and the last ones ("He can fix it" - powerful!).
Now, the only complaint I have is some of the skits were a little predictable, if you don't like skits on CDs those might annoy you. But please, that does not by any means take away from the blessing that is wrapped up in these songs! Every single one of them is like, a hand-wrapped gift from God to so many in the hip-hop generation, showing how it's supposed to be DONE!

5 out of 5 stars The hottest new female artist yet............2005-11-01

I loved the life in stereo cd but this cd takes it up a notch. I agree with everything the previous reviewer said. He summed it up quite well. On this Cd, she is living the Christ like lifestyle. It is more life situations than Jesus talk on every song. I can especially relate because I see so many gospel artists that have Jesus on every song but their life doesn't reflect what they sing. Shei holds on barres about her lifestyle and you can tell who she represents on everysong eventhough Jesus's name may not be mentioned. Whether she is telling you about how God spared her life, or how to reconsile your marriage
or how to difuse a bad situation or how to respect your self as a lady. Shei is doing pure ministry in its rawest form. Then she summs it all up after the last song with an invitation to accept Jesus. Mannn. That's Hot...... SHei keep doin' your thing girl, you are setting a new standard. Even if you just love good R&B this CD is a must have....

5 out of 5 stars Not your average Christian album, but it's a must-buy!.......2005-10-28

On Shei Atkins' first CD "Life In Stereo," there were about certain songs that were good enough to keep rewinding over and over again, though overall it's a good album. This time around on "The Lita Mae Show," every track will have you rewinding. And this CD is different from other Christian album simply because the focal point of the album is moreso about relationships than it is talking about Jesus, which was the format of her last album.

By relationships I mean situations where your friends encourage you to reconcile their marriage("Call Me,") , leaving that other man or woman to go back to your spouse("I'm Going Home"), dropping that man that's clearly not trying to be about you("Sudden Change"), resisting to temptation to smack that woman who's going around town talking about your man("Lose My Cool"), and my favorite, not trusting the gossip when people say they saw your man/woman with someone else("Try Again Part 3").

She also gives shout-outs to all children who have big dreams("One Day") and the men who are working hard to support and love their women and families("Ladies to the Fellas"), which as a man I really appreciate. She tells the story about how God spared her life on "I Got Shot." But don't worry, she does have songs dedicated to Jesus. There's the upbeat "No One," and the slow tracks "He Can Fix It" and "He's There."

This CD is also different because it layed out like a talk show, hence the title. Think of a cleaner version of Jerry Springer done as a musical. For example, "Lose My Cool" starts off with some girl coming on stage who shamelessly talks about someone's man and taunts her, saying "Yeah I talked about your man, and what?!? What you gonna do about it?" and then it cuts to "Lose My Cool." So it's really a creative album, and the skits are too funny!

Overall it's a very well produced album, the tracks are hot, the skits are too funny, and there's definitely a godly message about relationships. But even if you're not into Christian music, this is a high quality CD that anyone can enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Richard Marx: Paid Vacation (1994).......2005-02-25

After the release of RUSH STREET, along with the release of the album's five singles, Richard Marx decided to take a two to three year break. In 1994, Richard Marx returned to the countdown with his long anticipated fourth album entitled, PAID VACATION. This album, does not quite match up to that of his first three albums, but I am, indeed, a person, who does have enough decency and common sense to give this album the chance it most certainly deserves. This album really is not that bad. You'll find out why.

    THE WAY SHE LOVES ME
The second single from the album. This song does not fit in well with Richard's previous material, but what can I say? This is a great song. You all might enjoy this one if you are a diehard Richard Marx fan.

    ONE MORE TRY
A song that I can listen to all day long. The sound is also something Richard hasn't done before, but it is very well to my liking. From the first 30 seconds, I knew the song was going somewhere. By the way, Richard's song and George Michael's song are two different songs with the same title.

    SILENT SCREAM
The fourth & final single from the album. Not bad. Basically because I was hoping that it would've been a ballad because the title makes it sound like it should have been a ballad.

    NOTHING TO HIDE
Sounds like for this song, Richard decided to go back to his original sound. This is one of my favorite songs from this album.

    SOUL MOTION
Usually, I hate when a pop/rock artist records a song that is on the side of R&B, but Richard Marx recorded this song with an R&B sound that was nowhere near hateful. This song is this album's ultimate classic.

    NOW AND FOREVER
The first single from the album. I knew off the bat that this song was a ballad and I was right. But I was hoping for a better song than this. I was very disappointed in the sound of this song. Richard's vocals were perfect and that is the only highlight of this song.

    GOODBYE HOLLYWOOD
Do you know what I heard when I was listening to this song? I heard a hit single. This song sounds like it had a lot of potential to be released as a single and I feel that if it was a released as a single, it would have been a hit. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

    HEAVEN'S WAITING
This sound was not what I had expected to hear, but the song is really catchy and it did more than just seek my approval. It made itself another favorite of mine.

    NOTHING LEFT BEHIND US
The second single from the album. Sounds a bit like a country song, fused with slight pop, but it is a song that I have enjoyed, since the first time I heard it. A song nobody should miss.

    WHAT YOU WANT
Another song featuring the sound of his first three albums. A song that I cannot stop playing. This is the song for you if you a Richard Marx fan like me. Listen to this one before you advance to the next song.

    ONE MAN
This is the ballad that Now And Forever should have been. I got more of a feeling out of this one than I did with Now And Forever. This is a very heartfelt ballad that I cannot get enough of. And there really should be only one man for every woman in this world. They just have to find us.

    BABY BLUES (Live Performance)
This is, obviously, a live performance. Frankly, this song is the worst on this album. It makes Now And Forever sound like the best song on the album. But I'll give Richard the credit he deserves, because from what I heard, he sounds great when performing live. Not just hearing other people's opinion, but also by hearing this live performance.

This album sounds like it should have sold more. If you have listened to Richard's first three albums, they sounded like he was still growing up as a solo artist and performer. When he released his first album, "Richard Marx", in 1987, he was only 24 years old. When he released his second album, "Repeat Offender", in 1989, he was only 26 years old. With the release of his third album, "Rush Street", in 1991, He was only 28. For this album, he decided to bring on album that was much more mature, than the others. One way to tell of the maturity he brought to this album was his appearance. If you look at his first three albums, he had that long dark hair. Now, with this album, his hair is short and combed very nicely, making him look more mature. This album is amazing in every way, with the exception of two songs. So, buy a copy of this album and enjoy like I have.

4 out of 5 stars The other side of Richard Marx.......2004-06-22

This is a more mature or grown-up side of Richard Marx compared to some of his other previous albums. I love his song "Now and Forever". It's a beautiful ballad. Some of the other stuff on here is pretty good too! Finally, an album cover where Richard is not wearing raggedy clothes and he finally cut his hair short! It's got some great rock songs on here too, but again they're not loud and head-banging like his previous albums. Way to go, Richard!

5 out of 5 stars The Family's Favourite Holiday Album.......2002-03-23

Richard Marx has always been a family favourite and we own every single one of his album is some shape or form (I own his first album on vinyl, my Mum and Dad have Repeat Offender on tape, I have Rush Street on CD, they also have this album and Flesh And Bone on CD and I own the Alvalon album on CD (Which I actually don't have in my posession at this moment in time since a friend is getting it to me).

I personally really liked a lot of the tracks on "Rush Street" especially the haunting "Hazard". Sadly, too much of it was pretty heavy on the rock side, so it is not a consistant album to listen to.

This album is one that I can sit through (except the last track). Some people believe this was the end of Richard Marx's days of greatness, but it seems artists that move on to bigger and better things are often misunderstood and classified as 'has beens'. This album is just fantastic, and the best track in my opinion would have to be "There Ain't Nothing Left Behind Us" since it always reminds me of the 'good old days' when we used to take a drive to the country when I was in grade 3.

A very laidback effort, but nonetheless I can't understand why anyone would not like it. It will always remain a special album to me since it is a part of my childhood that I will cherish.

4 out of 5 stars Take This Vacation!.......2002-03-04

Marx returned after his big "Rock" album "Rush Street" a few years earlier in 1991, with this smashing good CD. That album alienated some of his core audience, so Marx returned to a softer sound with this one. This album was the beginning of a new chapter for Marx as an artist and composer. A change for the good. This is his most stripped down and laid back album of his career. He was no longer the innocent pop star of the teen world in the late 80's. Things have changed and people grow up. Richard started too with this CD. His fans have followed, no matter what a review says on this page. "Now And Forever" was the big top ten hit single here, and it was one of his nicest ballads. No big splashy string arrangement or piano, it was just Richard and a guitar and a pretty melody with nice lyrics. "The Way She Loves Me" is a fun, happy up-tempo little number. Leaves a smile on your face. "One Man" is a strong song. One of his strongest to date. There are some fun up tempo songs here, like - "What You Want", "Goodbye Hollywood", "Nothing To Hide", and my personal favorite, "Heaven's Waiting". Then there is the soulfulish R&B number "Soul Motion". All in all, this is a very accoustic and mature CD. It would only get better with his follow up, "Flesh And Bones". This album pretty much signified the end of his splashy pop from his heyday. As much fun as it was, it needed to end. A maturing artist can't do that type of music forever, just like Backstreet Boys and N' Sync can't do the music they do when they get to their mid 30's or so. Richard has grown, and so has his talent and music. It's taken him in new and interesting directions with wonderful music. This one is no exception.

4 out of 5 stars Good pop, but the end of any rock.......2002-01-25

People know Richard Marx best for his ballads. With songs like "Hold On To The Nights", "Right Here Waiting", and the biggest hit off of this album "Now And Forever", it is clear to see that this man has had a bunch of memorable radio ballad hits. Nonetheless, he also had a few big rocker hits on the radio, and if you listen to any of his first three albums you will hear a lot of quality rock-sounding songs. By this album, however, most traces of that are gone, and as it turned out Richard would never venture back into rock music again.

There is no denying the quality of some of the music here. "The Way She Loves Me" is a very catchy, slightly uptempo hit, and "Soul Motion" has strong R & B sensibilities that take his music in a moody, mystical direction. "Nothing Left Behind Us" is one of the prettiest, stongest ballads he has ever done (and that's saying something!). However, the only track resembling rock on the entire album is the decent but not spectacular "What You Want" near the end of the album. Songs like "One More Try" and "One Heart" are decent but should instead be replaced by rockers. Overall, the album falls just a bit flat compared to its three predecessors.

After this, Richard went entirely in an R & B and soft rock direction. The one time I tried to listen to his follow-up album to this, "Flesh And Bone", I fell asleep! All I've heard about him since then is that he has actually written songs for boy bands. Too bad, for sure, as this artist once had just about perfect melodic pop/rock sensibilities. While this album is still very good musically, it truly was "the beginning of the end" of Richard's career as his original fans knew it.
