Customer Reviews:
Awesome CD, awesome band........2007-06-13
I love European music, and Sinergy is one of my favorite U-Metal bands. I only wish these bands were more famous in the US, which would make their music more accessible. I adore Kim Goss, because she's more hardcore than most female singers. Her vocals are hard and rough, instead of light and feathery, and the band takes full advantage of this. Also, I love Marco's voice as well. This CD is amazing, and tracks I recommend are "I Spit on Your Grave", "The Sin Trade", "Written in Stone", and "Shadow Island".
Sinergy strike gold.......2006-07-06
Sinergy has had a convoluted history, nobody could claim it's been an easy road for this mob.
This album rips out of the blocks with I Spit on Your Grave and doesn't take it's foot off the throttle in terms of conviction for the rest of the album.
While this band is somewhat of a side project as long as they keep on producing albums like this I'll be handing over my cash. Given the fluid nature of membership of Sinergy over the years here is a quick heads up as to the line up for this album; Kimberly Goss (V), Alexi Laiho (G) Roope Latvala (G), Marco Hietala (B) and Tommi Lillman (D).
Rather than go into a track by track synopsis I'll just present my critical two cents worth in point form in terms of positives and negative.
For = The guitars just rip. As other reviewers have noted, the guitar assault here is totally awesome. Top notch stuff. This is a fully metal album and the androgynous vocals add a certain element. A sample is probably the best way for the undecided punter to make up their mind as to whether to buy this disc.
The production values are good and there is a certain amount of interest factor here in terms of both Kimberly and Alexi having been in (and still are in) other bands. Which means that plenty of people were probably interested in seeing what sort of product this mob would produce. Always nice to have a ready mande audience...
The passion there trackes are attacked with - my personal faves would be I Spit on Your Grave and Nowhere for No One.
Negatives = Not much at all. But the vocals are perhaps an acquired taste and some fans of other bands of these guys might just find that this traditional metal isn't quite what they expected/wanted. And the subject matter - dudes lighten up just a touch eh?
But for the general metal fan this is really a great album to get hold of. Unlike a bunch of the female fronted bands they actually play total metal. Even the lighter tunes are metal and everything gels to produce a fine, mature total metal release.
Female Fronted Power Metal.......2006-04-14
"Oh Yeah Maiden. If you like Rob Halferd then you will like the lead singer of sinergy. It has the same problem as maiden the music rocks and the frontman kills it. Listen to Arch Enemy if you like the guitar cause that is where Alexi went after Sinergy."
First of all Rob Halford is the Lead Vocalist of Judas Priest NOT Iron Maiden, Maidens frontman is Bruce Dickenson. Alexi Laiho not only is still in Sinergy playing lead guitar but as formally mentioned is also is as always the frontman of his far more popular band Children of Bodom. You want to put this band down, Thats fine with me.. But try to use FACTS next time!
Now, On to Sinergy's Suicide by My Side. This is straight forward Power Metal, No filler attached. Prepare to hear mindnumbing Dual Guitars that(to be honest)sound extremely similar to the guitar work on early Bodom records, Perhaps a bit more melodic. Power Metal isn't known for great bass lines, And this is continued here. They aren't bad B-Lines, They fit well and are fairly complex, But as with most PM bands are overthrown by the wailing guitar most of the time. The Drumming is very good and prospers well with the minor B-Lines and Outstanding Guitar work. Now, The most vivid point aside Alexi is Kimberly Goss as vocalist. In one word, Amazing. Goss sticks to standard Power Metal High Pitched Vocals.. But being female she can bend and soar her voice in ways men can not, Besides perhaps the almost ironically misplaced Rob Halford. And don't think Nightwish.. Operatic.. Think Iced Earth as far as vocals. All in all every album Sinergy have released thus far has been high above expectations, and the Dual Guitar wizards leave no man or woman standing once the deed is done. Be prepared to here Alexi's trademark breakneck spped solo's cause they are included.
On another note if your interested in Kimberly Goss' other work, Check out the Black Metal album 'The Cainian Chronicle' by the band 'Ancient' she was a guest vocalist through out the album. A word of Caution Ancient is a Traditional Black Metal band.. Its much heavier then Sinergy.. Much.
magnificent.......2005-10-25
Ok, first of all disregard the idiot below comparing Kim Goss to rob halford (and even apparently not recognizing the fact that a woman is singing not a man) and also saying "listen to Arch Enemy because that is where alexi went after sinergy" Moron! Alexi Laiho was not/ is not/ will never be in Arch enemy, that band has the mighty Amott brothers on guitar. Alexi is in Sinergy still and the more popular band Children of Bodom. This album is great, Spit on your grave is the best Sinergy song ever. Some other standouts are "Written in Stone", "The Sin Trade", "Violated", and "Me, Myself, My Enemy". Definitely worth picking up, more so than the previous sinergy albums.
Best of their catelog.......2005-09-30
Frontman kills it? Try frontwoman. She is one of the best vocalists out there and this album is no exceptions. She sings much harsher than their previous albums and along side now husband Alexi Loho they make a rediculous team. Alexi's guitar playing is some of his best and the melodies are crushing. By the way, Maiden's vocalist definitely does not "kill" the music and Kimberly Goss does not even sound remotely like Rob Halford. Case in point, this is one of the best powermetal releases out there and definitely the best of their catelog.
