Album Description
"Depeche Mode collides with Rush" is how one listener described the debut Project Vector CD, Reality Show. While that might be an overly brief summary, it gives an idea of the kind of seeming polar opposites that come together on this unusual 2005 release. Elements of modern techno, industrial, '80s synth music, progressive rock, and even grunge freely interweave in a sound that's always in flux but somehow manages to work as a cohesive whole. Singer/keyboardist/bassist/guitarist Dave Gastambide's full, resonant vocals cut through the lush sonic background loud and clear, dealing with emotionally-charged and controversial subjects like Internet addiction, school violence, gay teen suicide, and modern society's new favorite pastime, reality television.Progressive rock fans will enjoy the aggressive bass guitar parts and "thinking man's" lyrics, and techno lovers will dig the vast array of both retro and modern synthesizer textures, not to mention the infectious grooves. Reality Show is an ambitious experiment in fusing genres that few would consider attempting to combine quite like this. Project Vector has been likened to Thomas Dolby and Trent Reznor in regard to the willingness to explore new combinations of sounds and styles that might seem bizarre at first. Anyone looking to add something genuinely different to their CD collection need look no further.

Reality Show--Not for the sqeamish!.......2002-09-15
It was with some trepidation that I scored the live set. I knew that I would either love it or hate it, but nothing prepared me for the sonic assault I was in for. The disk opens with a relatively quiet "How High The Moon", which I was not familiar with, but it gave no hint on what was coming. The Blue Garden, Doraldina's Prophecies, and other songs covered on the first two albums were like revisting old freinds but just different enough for the live venue that I will never get tired of neither studio or live versions. The disk is full of hooks and the beautiful "Jindalee Jindalie" duet just went further to illustrate the versatility of Master Goss. After that brief interlude, they never let up. "Ants in the Kitchen/Goin' Down" was so cleverly interwoven that it sent shivers up my spine. Another gut-wrencher was also an interwoven production of "Tilt-a-Whirl/Swingeroo Joe", that you just can't sit still for while listening to it. Finishing up the set was a powerful rendition of "100 Years (Of Tears On The Wind)", which wrapped things up in a most satisfying way. I have not put anything else on my changer for a week now. The only thing better would be another live offering covering the Western Lodge and Deep in a Hole. My life would be complete.
I believe this disk would be more for fans that know the group and are familiar with their work, and that the new fans would be better off getting to know the studio works first. This might be snobbish, but I feel like only the true fan of MOR can truly appreciate this disk like it deserves to be.
Also a word about the 5 stars. That was a tuff one for me as I think very few recordings merit 5 stars, but the MOR just can't do a whole lot wrong in my book, and with this offering especially, I just could not see giving it anything less. Buy this explosive little CD and I think you'll see what I mean.
