From a Nilsson Fanatic.......2007-01-15

I first heard of Nilsson from a song he did with John Lennon on Lennon's album Walls and Bridges. I later found out that the hypnotizing backing vocals on Ringo Starr's cover of "You're Sixteen" were also Nilsson's. So when I found out that Nilsson was declared the Beatles favorite singer I realized I had to check him out. This album is simply sensational all the songs show a man who loves to sing and who can sing with the best of them. Pandemonium Shadow show has the powerful and humorous "Ten little Indians" the beautiful and heartwrenching "1941", the wry and catchy "cuddly toy", the gorgeous "sleep late my lady friend" the simply genius "without Her" and the clever Beatles tributes "You Can't Do That" and "She's leaving home". These tracks are all of high quality and are sung beautifully.
The next album Aerial Ballet starts with the fun, catchy, and unsettling "daddy's song" the adorable "Good Old Desk" the beautiful "Don't Leave Me" the thought provoking "Mr. Richland's Fav. Song" which, according to legend, was John Lennon's favorite. The legendary cover of "Everybody's Talkin'" which made Nilsson a Star and the song does not disappoint. Three Dog night also covered Nilsson's original song "One" which is both haunting and reminiscent of Paul McCartney's Rubber Soul-Revolver songs while maintaining a distinctive voice of it's own. The remix album besides being the first one in history is fun and the bonus tracks are smashing. Overall this compilation is fantastic and if I have not convinced you then I will say that this music is perfect for dating because it sets a terrific and fun mood. Thanks Nilsson for all the wonderful music!

THE BEST AUDIO VERSION AVAILABLE.......2006-08-17

If you are looking for the best audio versions, navigating the array of domestic, European and Japanese releases for each Nilsson album can be a frustrating experience.

I have purchased and painstakingly A/B'd them all, and have posted this review on the best editions of each Nilsson title. All you have to do is find this review and the guesswork is eliminated.

As with all my A/B reviews, the discs were compared on two Sony XA7 transports wired via identical Acoustic Zen coax cables to a Camelot Uther DAC.

The entire catalog was issued in 2002 with Japanese K2 remastering. In terms of remastering, K2 would usually be the end of the story, but this catalog is the rare exception: The final six albums in the K2 offering are the best audio versions, but in the front half of the catalog, the UK and one domestic editions are superior.

The 2004 RCA remaster of "Schmilsson" is the only domestic release that is better than the imports.

The three 2000 BMG Camden UK releases offer more clarity than the Japanese K2's. Perhaps they were working from better source material.

However, the Japanese K2's are definitely better than the UK "2-fer" discs in the later titles. Unfortunately, the K2's are now OOP, more difficult and expensive to locate, although the Japanese frequently re-issue catalog titles.

Before purchasing any OOP Nilsson title off Amazon Marketplace, Half or eBay, I would highly suggest e-mailing the seller (with the catalog number info I have provided above) and confirm the listing. The seller may have another edition of these titles mis-listed.

Essential two-albuns-in-one-cd and gorgeous bonus tracks!!!.......2005-11-18

Harry Nilsson entered in my life about a couple of years ago and God, I just don't knew what I was losing!!! I firstly bought a twenty-two-tracks-best-of, but rapidly I was delighted and got his records in single cd's...But I was mad to find his first two, "Pandemonium Shadow Show" and "Aerial Ballet" and only this compilation could satisfy my true desire!! I must say that the sound of this Camden Deluxe is not the clearest, but damn that, I was so happy (and moved) in hear this beautiful songs of a superlative composer/singer, I think too (and shamelly!) underrated...
Well, we can forget, for moments, the remix-album "Aerial Pandemonium Ballet" (seems it was the "first" remix-album, chronologically!) that came with this edition, it's only a experted reworking of some songs of both albuns, with a couple of good ideas...In fact, I'll give all the money for the bonus-tracks, everyone of higher quality, not deserving the second-hand interest. "As I wander Lonely" (hey, is it Divine Comedy!??), "Miss Butter's Lament" and "Wasting My Time" are prime-Harry Nilsson moving songs, with that peculiar melancholic tenderness. And "Sister Marie" a bit appart with a much more acid arrangement (dubbed keyboards?).
But first cd is a masterpiece, both of records being a perfect collection of songs...Harry Nilsson is so inventive in his solid musical ground, playing with a dozen of recording possibilities, just in time with the masters Beatles, certainly his great influence. It's not saying that he was the nearest american-clone of Lennon-McCartney (like a Janus statue!), no, he just deserves a great place in musical pantheon and be recognized by the masses!!
What we could say about the intrepid rhythm of "Ten Little Indians" with intriguing nursery-rhyme lyrics; the truly sentimental beauty of "1941" (delicious harmonium and trombone!) and "Sleep Late, My Lady Friend" (gorgeous, gorgeous!) or the happy-erotic keyboard (with Nilsson's comment "Oh, beautiful") of "Cuddly Toy"??? Say nothing, just give a thousand listens and bring joy to our life!!
The two covers here are quite great, in fact I think "She's Leaving Home" surpasses the original, more rich in details (magic tablas here!); "River Deep-Mountain High" is not so "Spectoresque" but it works in dramatic pulsation...
Nilsson is simply gorgeous in love songs, giving only the essential, sometimes with a sad regret and disappointment, like in "There Will Never Be" (a lonely dance), "It's Been So Long" and "Without Her", the latter one the most perfect whispered love song (great flute!), the true loneliness without indulgence...In another hand, he chose happy counterpoints in the ragtime approach of "Freckles" or the extraordinary meddle of Beatles work "You Can't Do That"...
"Aerial Ballet" is a kind of second chapter to "Pandemonium...", some more of magnificient crafted songs in an ecclectic manner (Nilsson's scat is a copyright!), so distinctive and not a single moment dated!! Truly masterpieces here are "Don't Leave Me" (another touching love song! Notice the superlative last scat!), "Together" (probably his second best song!!Impeccable!!), "I Said Goodbye To Me" (superb bass backing vocals!) and all the last four tracks!! More commercial-oriented hits like "Mr.Richland's Favorite Song" and "Everybody's Talkin'" aren't also easy listening.
"Mr.Tinker" is a deep social meditation of a lonely person; "One" is probably Nilsson's best song (beautiful lamenting cello at the middle section) and "The Wailing of the Willow" is that late-sixties new thing called "bossa-nova" so softly inspired in Nilsson's hands!! "Bath" is a remarkable shouting farewell...And then go straight to bonus tracks again, the remix-album is just a interesting variation, this edition is an essential one!!!!

Changing the name of your favourite song..........2002-03-01

This is an irresistible package for anyone tracing (or revisiting) Harry Nilsson's sadly under-rated and neglected catalogue.

The "Pandemonium Shadow Show" album is a 1967 charmer, introducing Nilsson's unique and brilliant singing/songwriting talents. It features classics like "1941" and "Without Her". It could be accused of being overly in the thrall of the Beatles, but that would be to deny the charm of "You Can't Do That", which manages to cram much of the Beatles stylistic repertoire into one arrangement. At least he's wearing it on his sleeve. This playfulness remained one of Nilsson's many endearing characteristics.

The "Aerial Ballet" album is a real revelation; an achievement on equal terms with the Beatles, rather than standing in their shadow. With only one non-original song on the album ("Everybody's Talkin'", the one Nilsson song I guess everyone's familiar with), the strength of the songwriting ("Good Old Desk", "I Said Goodbye To Me", "One", etc) would stand alone even without the often breathtaking vocal performances. Most of the songs dissolve into Nilsson's inimitable "scat" vocalising in the final verse, which adds a level of poignancy and poetry beyond language. Running out of lyrics was an opportunity for such a talent! The vocal multilayering is very effective, and, I guess, technically advanced for its time.

The "Aerial Pandemonium Ballet" remix album is an interesting addition for the sake of completion. It was more successful saleswise than the original two albums, but I find myself sticking more with the original versions of the songs.
The bonus tracks are all very worthwhile, particularly the spine-tingling "Wasting My Time".

The sound quality appears to be fine, although I have my doubts about the "remastering" on these BMG reissues. I have nothing to compare "PSS" and "AB" to, but the reissue of "The Point" (double with "Skidoo") sounds markedly inferior to my original CD of that album.
Now, speaking of reissues, what about the post "Pussycats" albums?

The original mastertapes were in shambles. When BMG went back to Harry's original masters for his first two albums for the Personal Best Anthology they found that the tapes needed tender loving care to bring out the best sound. Like lots of recordings from the same time frame, the tapes hadn't aged well.

This 2 disc set gets things right. Yes, there is still a significant amount of hiss but, trust me on this, it's better than having BMG reissue these classics using sonic solutions no noise (which was used on the Badfinger reissues from Apple--it's one of the reasons they sound so bad).

Of the three albums included here APB sounds the best. Harry went back and remixed many of these tracks reducing many of the overdubs and, hence, improving the sound quality in many cases. Fans should note, however, that the bonus tracks on APB here are different from those found on the US edition.

Missed Opportunity.......2007-03-15

When The Time reunited in 1990-I like many Time fans was ecstatic. I had dreamed about it for years-so for it to actually come to fruition was like a dream come true. Jesse Johnson, Morris Day, Monte Moir, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jellybean Johnson and yes even Jerome-what more could you ask for? Unfortunately, the reality did not quite live up to the fantasy. I know, I know the album was critically acclaimed and Rolling Stone magazine gave it 4 out of 5 stars but...the problem with this album is that it tries to be new jack swing-which is not in line with The Time's musical roots-and then there is Morris Day.

I love Morris Day, however on this album he is no longer COOL. His pimp bravado gets old after a while. It gets to the point where it is overkill and not before long-it becomes kind of corny. I just wish he would have done some channeling to reconnect with his inner coolness-or done something to cause him to remember what made him cool in the first place-and just stuck to that.

The album begins with the self-aggrandizing but appropriate-Dreamland sequence where we hear a person (Morris) snoring, and in his dream a crowd can be heard cheering as The Time are brought back to the stage by former BET host Donnie Simpson. There are some good songs on this album, the top ten hit Jerk Out, the song Chocolate. But even Chocolate in some ways misses the mark because of Morris Day's antics. Jesse Johnson, who is probably one of the best guitar players there is, displays his exceptional guitar skills on songs "Skillet" and "Blondie" which are straight up and down rock songs. Fans are given the opportunity to hear those masterful guitar skills of Jesse's that were so intimidating to Prince. These songs would have fit in very well on any rock station. The title track Pandemonium is good, while the song Data Bank has a good sound-but I am not overwhelmed by it. It sounds like it would have been very at ease on any Alexander O'Neal album. As for the rest of the album, (which is quite a bit) it is relatively undistinguished. The skits/segues/fillers (or whatever you want to call them) Sexy Socialites, Yount, Cooking Class and Pretty Little Women are unnecessary and in some cases in poor taste and don't really make sense. The songs Sometimes I get Lonely, Donald Trump (Black Version), It's Your World and My Summertime Thang are mediocre at best.

So let's recap-7 good tracks and 8 not so good tracks (including the fillers). Overall, Pandemonium is a flawed album, however all of The Time's albums have some flaws. This album offers quite a bit-but whether or not this is a good thing is another matter. The Time were a great band of extremely talented gentleman capable of MUCH, MUCH more-unfortunately they must not have felt that way or decided to take the easy way out by settling for mediocrity. I just believe this album could have easily been better. Maybe this album just wasn't a priority and the guys felt that they would just throw something together just for the sake of it all-which if true, is unfair to their legacy and the fans. When you have such a group of talented individuals-namely Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Jesse Johnson this album should have been a masterpiece. Again there are some good songs (some better than others) on this album as I mentioned above, however for every good song there is a not so hot song or filler which in my opinion detracts from the album. And then there is the Morris Day factor-which also detracts from the album. So this album is unfortunately a mixed bag-I think if some songs and skits/fillers were eliminated and Morris Day was reeled in a bit then this would have been a MUCH better album. I also feel that it was a victim of its time-maybe if they waited a few years it possibly would have been a better album and better received because admittedly, it is a lot better than most of the platinum selling albums these days. But despite its problems Pandemonium is an album that should be in any fan of The Time's music collection.

The Time have their time.......2005-09-22

After regaining contact with The Time by converting my LPs, this CD album was a ray of sunshine. Not only were they the good old gang,they were polished as well. So glad I spotted the buy as Pandemonium was not in my collection!

Reunion? Yeah,I was hype. THE TIME in the 90's i-ight! Not such a good comeback though.

Sure the originals are here. Morris,Jerome,Terry,Jimmy Jam,Jellybean,Jesse and Monte. But the new jack 90's wasn't doin' for THE TIME. Songs like "Chocolate" which is their sound couldn't get them funkateers from the early 80's back in the groove. Not even the so-called rappin' "Jerk Out" jerked them back. Ballads like "Sometimes I Get Lonely" is a "Gigolos Get Lonely Too" part two. "It's Your World",motivating but not moving and the attempt to crossover to rock like "Jungle Love" and "777-9311" did,THE TIME gets JESSE to rock on "Blondie" and "Skillet". Dust off "My Drawers" y'all. Oh,the stoopid skits inbetween the songs like "Sexy Socialites",for example,put an even more stamp on this downhill CD.

It was great to see the 7 of them all together again. The effort was there but I guess it just wasn't their TIME. Oh,that was bad.

Funky fresh from the 80s.......2004-07-14

The Time are in pretty good shape here, coming together again to record some more fly tunes with the one and only Morris Day.

Highlights include Jerk Out, with Morris smacking his ladies-man lips in anticipation for the funk; Chocolate, with crazy-Prince-styled funk for a main course and a dessert of Prince and Morris talking goofy; Data Bank, a smooth jam with all the elements for a mixed drink; and Sometimes I Get Lonely, about the most introspective dish you'll ever hear Morris Day get.

I purchased the CD for one single song, "Cooking Class," which was sampled to make a great early 1990s .mod file called "Cooking it Up." The lyrics sampled were "Gimme little bit o' that pepper, gimme little bit o' that salt, put it in a skillet and cook it, on that stove I bought!" These lyrics were even hummed by Chef in South Park on one episode near the beginning of the show's run.

Fans of Parliament Funkadelic will find some similarly-flavored funk to sink teeth into here, with not quite as much self-referential, crazy stuff: it's a little more down-to-earth, but still plenty o' fun.

Original Time members are back!!!!!!!.......2004-03-14

I put this album in the category of the first two albums by the Time (The Time & What Time is it?). On this album you can tell they had alot of fun as the first two. Ice Cream Castle album didn't have the same feel, although my favorites off that album was "Jungle Love", "My Drawers" and "The Bird". If you are a dedicated Prince fan, you know that some of these songs on this album has a hint of Prince on it, just like the first two albums. It was Prince who actually wrote (and possibly played) on "Jerk Out","Chocolate"(you can hear Prince doing his impression of the waiter sounding like Morris near the end of the album.), "Donald Trump Black Version","Databank"(there's a free for all jam on one of Prince's bootlegs called "Pretty Face", but he sings "Databank",the arrangement is faster, the bass line is the same and lyrics are similar), and "My Summertime Thang"(which is the same as "The Latest Fashion" from the "Graffitti Bridge" album by Prince). But overall, it was the band that actually got to play on this album, unlike the first two, with the exception of Jesse Johnson. I happen to like the funky "Its Your World". Jazz saxophonist Candy Dulfer adds her two cents on this album.

Classic - Hold the Chills.......2006-06-25

This is a fine collection of mostly classical themes.
Some of them have nice creepy moments, but on the whole, it's just some solid music. Not something to buy if you want really "spooky" music, but worthwhile for some interesting listening.

This is an awesome album. It starts off with thunder crashing, running footsteps, a gate creaking, the wind howling, a cat screeching, a door opening, a woman crying that she needs help....and then SCREAMING! And then straight into track 2, the overture to 'The Phantom of the Opera'. Wow! The rest of the cd also features 'creepy' music from various sources, such as Alfred Hitchcock films, like Psycho, various classic works like Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Night on Bald Mountain', and also some other creepy sound effects. A good album not only for Halloween but I dare you to listen to it during a dark night with a thunderstorm raging outside.

A real work-out for your system.............1999-12-11

I've owned the "Chiller" CD since it's release in '89. At the time, I was working for a local Audio/Video/Music dealer, and was looking for 'demo' CD's containing not necessarily heavy bass, but ones displaying incredible dynamic range, and sharp transient peaks. I already owned a copy of "Time Warp", also on Telarc, and was intrigued when I read about "Chiller. Needless to say, I was extremely pleased with this disc. Not only did I get a disc containing some great treatments of classics, but the re-make of the "Psycho" suite is wonderful (the shower sequence is very faithful to the original)! A word of warning.....the dynamic range of this disc is not to be underestimated.....I drove an older amplifier into thermal shutdown VERY quickly with track #1. I haven't tried it since I've upgraded my home system....hmmm....might have to scare the neighbors tonight (or at least rattle a few dental fillings)!

This CD contains tons of great classic Halloween tunes. Even though the names might sound unfamiliar, you probably know most of the music on here through cultural osmosis. Heck, it's worth it just for "Funeral March of a Marionette" (the Alfred Hitchcock show theme.)

With the release of "Into the Pandemonium," the band nixed the black make-up, upside down crosses and chain mail, and took a bit different approach--they just made cutting edge music. The darkness was still there, as was the evil undertones. But now, the band was pulling technology into the mix. Remember--by 1987, speed metal and death metal was played out. The only bands left to play fast and scary were Slayer, Anthrax and Kreator and a whole slew of crappy wannabe bands. If they didn't sound like one of those three bands, they weren't playing speed metal. By the late 80's we saw bands like Circle Jerks, DRI and the Descendents rising and falling in fame. Metallica had changed their sound for the radio. Megadeth now sucked profusely. It is safe to say that Speed/Death Metal was A FLASH IN THE PAN.

Now--back to CF. "Into the Pandemonium" paved the way for the next generation of metal...the sludge, the rock infusion, interwining melody with mayhem, orchestration with chaos, good with evil.

It opens with a Wall of Voodoo cover, MEXICAN RADIO. What a re-do! Drummer Reed St. Mark rips this song to shreds. Great opener, much in the same vain as an early 80's metal song.

Next, we hear MESMERIZED, an introduction to the new CF. This song is so dark, so evil, so progressive...Ive never heard anything like it in my life. Dark, droning guitars, the sound of an acoustic drifting in the background, and TG WArrior's vocals--the sound of a dying man taking his last breath.

INNER SANCTUM is next. They do this one well live. It is a blistering, fast, bludgeoning song, with remnants of Morbid Tales pushing it along. One of the most aggressive tracks on the CD.

Depending on your verion, the next song is either SORROWS OF THE MOON or TRISTESSES DE LA LUNE. It is the same song. Sorrows is the metal version, Tristesses is the orchestral version. Equally evil, dark, we hear the dying man's groan voice again. I am glad that the orchestral version is included on some pressings--it really goes to show you how closely their metal songs are tied to classical, European orchestral arrangements, with violins, tympanies and the like.

BABYLON FELL and CARESS INTO OBLIVION are next, a two-part selection which is the highlight of the CD. These two will remind you of "To Mega Therion," both in sound and theme. Evil, slow, then fast, dark, and scary.

ONE IN THEIR PRIDE is a highly dated, experimental tune, consisting of a drum machine and sampled voices from a shuttle launch. Now that rap, hip hop and R&B are so prevalent, this song sucks.

I WON'T DANCE is the gem of this CD. It may not be the best, but this song paved the way for music to come. This song ROCKS...plain and simple. It sounds like it could be a White Zombie song! It is my firm belief that this song influenced so many of our grunge rockers of the 90's, and metal bands like Cathedral. I've played this song for friends of mine who don't like metal, and they are mesmerized (no pun intended). The drums, of course, are excellent.

REX IRAE is a pretty cool song. In 87, most of the people I'd play this for were freaked out, and didn't like it. It's basically an orchestral arrangement, with a symphonic band, plus guitar and drums. It is about the death of a king, and the vocals trade between the dying king, a female nymph, and them TG Warrior's evil grunts. An errie guitar solo is performed by guest musician Andres Dobbler.

ORIENTAL MASQERADE is a short orchestral procession, complete with guitars and drums, much like Rex Irae. In fact, it can be argued that this song is actually the funeral procession for the dead king--sort of an after thought for Rex Irae.

On the remasterd version of the CD, there are a number of additional songs added which I think take away from this masterpiece of an album. They were recorded much later, with different musicians, and don't at all sound or feel like "Into the Pandemonium." The original release ended with Oriental Masquerade.

IF YOU ARE A LOVER OF BOTH CLASSICAL, SYMPHONIC, ORCHESTRAL MUSIC AND ALSO METAL, THIS ALBUM WILL BE YOU OWN PERSONAL NATIONAL ANTHEM. 10 STARS!!!!

Highlight music.........2006-03-27

There were so many fabulous albums during the 80's.This is one of them.We don't talk about a usual metal lp.This so much more.So perfectly built.Musicians have excelled and surpassed themselves.It is a blend of dark-death-gothic-black metal experiment which finally turns to be magnificent.Vocals are eerie dark and have a strange beauty..Guitars kick with amazing rhythm sessions..Check the drummer,he was so progressive and ahead...About the spoilers now..They better buy a britney spears cd..

Think that I am joking about 1 1/2 stars? Wish I could say that I was, and the only reason I am not giving this a complete zero is because at the time of this release Metal was still mostly underground, espcially Thrash and Death Metal, so they get some credit just for trying.... But on to the review. I can't say that I can rip people for liking this band. Celtic Frost has a very "tight" following and fan base that is loyal, and has stayed loyal throughout the years. But I really dont see what all the fuss is about. First off, even though their style of Metal was pretty much unheard of at the time ( I cant say that it is Death or Black, but almost like their own kind of style that is very hard to describe), it seems like every single song that they do is the same thing over and over. OF course, I am not talking about their style, as MetalHeads will know that bands like Bolt Thrower and Six Feet Under have a very constant to their music, but at least it is good. Celtic Frost musicanship has to be questioned. I mean the drummer is doing nothing unique or special, I can t even hear the damn bassiest, and the guitar players are nothing special. The only thing that I do like is the vocal. To sum it up, I guess I have to say its like listening to the same beat over and over, with no change, no solos, and no EXCITEMENT. This is really boring Metal, and there is stuff that is so much more worthy then Celtic Frost. If you want really good 1980's Thrash, Death, or Black Metal, then you have to go with Kreator, SLayer, Death, Venom, Overkill, Testament and Exodus. Those bands are so much better and have much more to offer musically. Unless you are a Die Hard Celtic Frost fan, I just cant reccomend them.

4.5 stars.. There`s nothing else that sounds like this album..............2005-08-09

...and that`s a good thing. I have owned this album since it was new. One of the best things about CELTIC FROST is that no two releases sound alike, which works for them (except for the album that followed this one "COLD LAKE", and even that one had some great moments). INTO THE PANDEMONIUM cannot be compared to anything else because as I stated earlier, there is nothing else that remotely sounds like it. Another reviewer called this a love it or hate it album, and for the most part that is an accurate description. I for one love it. From the opening notes of the bizarre choice of a cover song, WALL OF VOODOO`s " Mexican Radio" to the final moments of the operatic " Rex Irae" CELTIC FROST takes you on a bizarre journey into their chaotic vision. Although the sound production may not live up to some people`s standards ( as was prevelent on most of that era`s releases on smaller music labels) ther is a real atmospheric feel to INTO THE PANDEMONIUM.
Highlights include MEXICAN RADIO, BABYLON FELL, CARESS INTO OBLIVION, REX IRAE, and my personal fave; I WONT DANCE(THE ELDER`S ORIENT.
Also, if you are looking for something new from CELTIC FROST, check out their website for their free download of "Ground" from their long awaited new album. With many bands currently making their comebacks, I for one am eagerly anticipating their new release.
While INTO THE PANDEMONIUM may not appeal to every listener, there are many of us out there that recognize the genius of CELTIC FROST. The Metal Historian hath spoken and recommends highly.
P.S. For those who hated the COLD LAKE album and never listened beyond that, check out VANITY/ NEMESIS. That album is also quite good.

B2K re-released Pandemonium in a special edition about three months after the oringal verisonw as released. Pandemonium Special Edition was included with a crappt bonus DVD a few new tracks. Two of the tracks written by R.Kelly are the strongest on the album which are Girlfriend & What A Girl Wants. While both these tracks are cool there really was no need for a re-lease hence my low rating. Another compliant on the CD is Why I Love You is repeated from B2K's debut release once again,

This album has everything that you're looking for in an R&B group. These boys are more than just hot and I would give anything for them to get back together again and make another allbum. Here's my opinion of how the songs were off of this album.

1. "Intro"- I really hated the intro (Although I hate everyone's intro). It took a whole recording studio staff to write this and it wasn't even good.

2. "Bump, Bump, Bump"- This is a great song featuring Diddy and I love the beat and lyrics to this song. The music video is great(and it's on the DVD!). I love the way B2K dances and I love that they dance in most of their music videos. I especially love their music video "Uh-Huh" but it is not on the DVD included with the album.

3."Girlfriend"- This song is good to listen to. I love Lil' Fizz's rap and I like the beat.

4."You Can Get It"- This song is one of the best songs on this album. It has a great beat, great lyrics, and their vocals are very sexy.

5."One Kiss"- This song isn't ne of my favorites but it's okay to listen to when you're in the mood for something slow and steady.

6."Bump That"- A really upbeat song. I love the Lil' Fizz rap.

7. "My Girl"- Great song but the lyrics are a little simple. It's fast but you won't feel the song as much as you feel the other songs.

8. "What A Girl Wants"- Slow and very long. Good to listen to when you're in the mood for something slow.

9. Sleepin'"- Slow and emotional. Great vocals and good to listen to.

10.- "Would You Be Here"- Good song about whether you're with them for the money or for the love. Slow but satisfying.I would be with Lil'Fizz whether he has a million or is living out on the streets.

11. "Everything"- Bets lyrics and vocals on their whole album. Slow and heartfelt.

12. "Tease"- Good but not as good as the other songs.

13. "Back It Up"- Good song, not so great lyrics, but okay.

14. "Where Did We Go Wrong"- Fast and long.

15. "Pretty Young Thing"- Have you ever heard a song where the first verse is the second verse too? It happens in this song, but it's good to dance and listen to.

16. "I Beat You To It (Turn This Party Out)"- Great beat and everything. Lil' Fizz raps every verse in this song. I love him!

17. "The Other Guy"- Slow and great.

18. "Why I Love You"- I like the dancing in the director's cut of this video but I don't really care for this song.

19. "Boys 4 Life"- Great song sbout how they came along.

20. "Girlfriend (Ron G Remix)"- Same lyrics as the original but a kind of like 50 Cent's song "It's Your Birthday".

21. "Dog"- This song is by Jhene. It's okay but kind of ameteur.
Jhene's songs are stupid. Did they give her the reject songs?(Listen to clips from her album.)

I love this CD and I hope you will too. If you like B2K then you'll like my 2nd best group B5.

A Mature Side Of Them.......2005-11-11

This is a very sexy and mature side of B2K and I love it. The songs on here are touching to the ladies and men could relate to it. One of my favourite songs has got to be "Why I Love You" because the melody is great, the vocals and production are hot and the lyrics are beautiful. Sometimes, you just need to get away from all those horrible sounding music of rock, country and some rap, and listen to some true, introspective and authentic R&B, like this CD. If you are into Usher, Pretty Ricky, Mario and B5, then this is the CD for you. I just hope they reunite in the future.

B2K may live to regret their name--an acronym for Boys For 2000--as they age. Especially since they've taken great pains to try to convince listeners how much they've grown up on Pandemonium!, their second disc in less than nine months. To that effort, the underage musicians studded the disc with enough sexual innuendo to make even R. Kelly. In fact, the Los Angeles quartet engaged the services of the beleaguered rap impresario to write, produce, and arrange "Bump, Bump, Bump," a rather randy track that kicks off the disc featuring P. Diddy's cheeky rap about his utter appreciation of the female anatomy. And the escapades don't stop there, the bittersweet "Sleepin'" finds B2K apologizing to an erstwhile girlfriend for catting around, "You Can Get It," shows them in hot pursuit of another man's women, while "Tease" finds them pouting over an unconsummated encounter. But just when you're about to write them off as unrepentant hound dogs the pendulum swings, and B2K drop the swagger and bravado to deliver the sweet valentines of "My Everything," and the wistful innocence and regret of "One Kiss," so like the yearning ballads that made fans swoon for the band in the first place. --Jaan Uhelszki

The ballads make it work.......2007-01-13

Most R&B either excel at slow jams or up-tempo tracks. B2K falls into the former category and the slow jams are what make this CD work. A lot of love topics on this CD are covered regrets is covered in Sleepin and, sung with the great feeling. While accusations that the woman addressed is only interested in money in Would You Be Here. The other slow jam worth mentioning is the hidden track What You Get, which showcases Omarion's tenor. The only up-tempo track worth mentioning is the advance single Bump, Bump, Bump which was produced, written, and arranged by R. Kelly and which is co-billed to rapper P. Diddy. Sadly B2K never got the chance to mature into a credible R&B group, but what can you do !

I got this album about 2 years ago,and thought that i owed you loyal viewers a personal review. The first album was definetly better. Creatively I think they were in a better place. The standout songs are "Bump, Bump, Bump" "One Kiss" "Everything" "Tease". The others were just album fillers, but if you love B2K you should buy this album, Because they are true musicians, despite the disappointment of the final album.

The first "remix" album?.......2001-11-11

"Aerial Pandemonium Ballet" was Nilsson's 1971 remix project, on which he took tracks from 1967's "Pandemonium Shadow Show" and 1968's "Aerial Ballet" and re-worked them, remixing some songs, recording new vocals, and slowing down tempos. It was a new concept at the time of this album's release, and people didn't quite know what to make of it: The album only managed to reach #149 on Billboard's album chart, and dropped off the chart after only three weeks. This CD is worth a listen, though, especially for those who are familiar with the original versions of these songs.

Some of these re-worked versions are, of course, more effective than others: For the remix of "Without Her" (not to be confused with "Without You"), Nilsson re-recorded his vocals in a higher key, and added a guitar which was muted until the last verse on the original. The result is startlingly different, yet just as good as the original, which is one of my favorite Nilsson songs. The re-worked version of "Daddy's Song," which also appears on the "All-Time Greatest Hits" CD, is superior to the original version, which appeared on first pressings of the "Aerial Ballet" vinyl LP (The CD booklet erroneously states that this song only appeared on promotional copies of the LP), as well as later CD reissues. While I prefer the original versions of "1941" and "Good Old Desk" over the slowed-down versions presented here, the only re-worked song which flat-out doesn't work is "Together," where the musical backing sounds clunky and awkward and the ending segues VERY awkwardly into "One."

This CD reissue includes five bonus tracks. The best of these is a cover of the Everly Brothers' "Walk Right Back," recorded during the sessions for the "Nilsson Schmillson" LP. This song alone is worth the price of the CD: It's one of the best songs Nilsson recorded. The disc concludes with a short, unlisted track which Nilsson recorded especially for the 8-track version of "Aerial Pandemonium Ballet." This track showcases Nilsson's wonderfully offbeat sense of humor: He was informed by someone at RCA that the four programs on an 8-track tape needed to have identical running times, and this was his solution.

Very Cool.......2001-11-02

Now, this album is not better than the original 2 however it IS a must for real Nilsson fans. This C.D is definitly a supplement to any Nilsson fans'collection. Sometimes I want to hear Pandemonium Shadow by its self there were songs on that C.D that aren't included on this C.D like "Ten little indians","She sang hymes out of tune," and "There will never be." However sometimes I like hearing the alternative versions on this C.D. "Walk right back" is definitly awesome. I truly don't think Nilssons' nod to Phil Spector (River deep-moutain high) ever goes out of style. Nilssons songwritting always reminded me of songwritting by Jimmy Webb. They (to me) always had alot in common as far as their songs' tones go.

The silencing of Harry Nilsson's voice rocked my world. For years, I mourned the fact that there would be no more albums in his remarkable catalogue. Then, came the import Camden rereleases with extra tracks, and now this American labor of love.

I admit that I found the choice of Aerial Pandemonium Ballet surprising -- it's not Harry's best album -- but it's growing on me. A lot. Buddah Records made a wise decision in making this release.

For one thing, the liner notes by Curtis Armstrong (yes, THE Curtis Armstrong) are a delight to read and take me back to the days when LPs reigned. Secondly, Aerial Pandemonium Ballet is a rare instance of an artist taking two of his early albums, blending them and sharpening the tracks when his voice was at its peak. And then we have the Bonus Material...

The haunting track Isolation is worth the purchase price alone, but Walk Right Back... There's something profoundly ironic about hearing Nilsson singing the Everly's classic. Walk Right Back was written by Sonny Curtis shortly after Buddy Holly's death. It's a one-verse song. It's luminous. It's the last track on the CD. And it says it all.

"Walk Right Back to me this minute... I'm so lonesome every day."

Thanks to Buddah Records and this CD, Harry Nilsson's legacy lives. And his amazing voice walks right back into my heart one more time.

Harry takes flight in remade masterpiece..........2000-10-25

With the luxury of success, Harry Nilsson decided to retool his first two albums. He went back and re-recorded vocals, changed arrangements, varied tempos to produce an album that stands as one of his finest. APB finds Harry in both great voice and with a top notch batch of self penned songs and remakes.

The rearrangements work for almost all the songs on this disc. River Deep, Mountain High sounds better than the original (an awkward horn part disappeared replaced by a vocal part), but still manages to come off sounding dated and stilted (even by 1971 standards). Everything else sounds marvelous and if not an improvement on the original versions is at least the equal of them (for example in Mr. Richland's Favorite Song Harry manages to dovetail a witty reference to his song One which became a hit for 3 Dog Night quite a bit after the original was released).

The bonus tracks are a welcome addition to this great album. Harry's remake of Isolation although not radically different from John Lennon's captures both the sense of desperation from the original while adding a melodic vocal as a counterpoint to the sparse arrangement. Walk Right Back (with Cathy's Clown interpolated) captures Harry at what he did best; he could generate interest with just voice and piano. The treat from the original 8 track version of the album at the end is a delightful surprise.

The booklet ranks as one of the best from a reissued album. Curtis Armstrong's essay is both informative and fun to read. The mastering and sound quality could only have been imrproved if it were done in a higher resolution format (i.e., HDCD or 24 bit mastering). The entire album sounds spectacular captures the esssence of the original vinyl while improving upon it.

APB stands as one of Harry's finest albums (along with the more successful Nilsson Schmillson and Son of Schmillson)and the songwriting hasn't aged a bit. That speaks volumes and is the true testimony to the greatness of an artist.

not even close to their best.......2003-02-22

I don't even need to write much here becasue eveoflone hit the nail on the head. Sludgy is the perfect word. this album is lacking melody. I would agree that there are 3 or 4 songs that are pretty good but I am having trouble stomaching the rest. It just isn't fun music like back in the 80's and 90's. Is life this bleek? sad?!?!?!

I Agree with the first Review. This CD Rocks! The other two reviewers do not have a clue. (They must like Limp Biskuit).
Looking forward to the new CD Biosphere. Hope they tour the US.

Excellent CD!!!.......2002-03-28

...Pandemonium" is an excellent cd...This is one of Loudness's best. Excellent guitar work, Great lyrics, Minoru has never sounded better, Fantastic drums.
With hard rocking songs like "Bloody Doom", "Suicide Doll", "Snake Venom", "Ya Stepped On A Mine" this cd hasn't left my cd player sense I got it!
Check out the new "Pandemonium - Tour" DVD/Video too, thier expensive but well worth the money.

I was really lookin new loudness cd with English lyricks.
I cant tell you how disappointed i am with this album after listening it couple of times. how it is possible that this band has done so great albums like Thunder,disillusion,The law...etc
Akira and boys have only one good song in this album: Inflame is little bit of that magic what loudness used to be.
THIS ALBUM TOTALLY SUCKS. Dont waste yoy money on this. Rather listen old albums and forget this re union [stuff]. loudness has allways been my favourite band and i have their all albums and this really hurts me. I really waited this new comin,but it is totally disaster.

Don't take me wrong: I like this formation... usually...

As much as I thought "Spiritual Canoe" took a step forward from the "Dragon" and "Engine" albums, this latest effort brings us back to the genre of music the band explored in the 90s. Unlike "SC", the lyrics are sung in english (thanks to the contributions of a few translators), but the music is relatively insignificant... (no real melodies per se)

There are a few selections like "Suicide Doll", "Chaos" and "Real Man" that show some inspiration, but the largest part of the album unfortunately omits 1 key element: direction. Most songs have very little construction, or, more appropriately, sound like they've been written on a napkin. The whole thing is somewhat disjointed, and generally unappealing. Tracks like "Ya Stepped On A Mine" and "The Pandemonium" are so "sludgy" that you can't tell if those are demos from 15-year-olds playing in one of their buddy's garage or veterans of the music scene that have been performing for over 20 years.

I typically listen to an album 3 to 5 times before making a review, simply because every album deserves some exploration before I'm able to provide some kind of cohesive impression.

There are too many weak parts to this effort to make it a "recommended" purchase, even if, as usual, guitarist Takasaki demonstrates some creative and original performances (even on tracks I don't like). I think this CD makes for a risky investment, compounded by the fact that's it's a japanese import... If you know someone you bought it, try borrowing it first so you can judge for yourself whether it's to your liking or not.

And before you ask, no, you can't borrow mine...

My favourite album ever?.......2006-08-03

I can honestly say that no album comes close to Pandemonium for pure sonic diversity and thus remains my favourite twelve years after it's release. If you have the original CD release don't bother with this reissue as the couple of bonus tracks are not so great and probably spoil the "balance" of the original track-listing. In a world where people listen to acts simply because they are fashionable Killing Joke remain an individual listening choice...

A masterpiece........2005-08-10

After a messy few years filled with trouble-- including the loss of original drummer Paul Fergeson, a Jaz Coleman solo album forced out by the record label as a Killing Joke album (and rushed to be finished at that), and a disasterous reunion with industrial drummer Martin Atkins that broke the band up, Killing Joke looked done for good. But when guitarist Geordie called original bassist Youth while assembling a "best-of" compilation (the superb "Laugh? I Nearly Bought One!"), they talked about working together again. The result, after getting in touch with vocalist Jaz Coleman, is probably the strongest Killing Joke album in a long time.

"Pandemonium" is really a reflection of what the band members have been up to since the last time the three of them worked together-- the more industrial edged sounds of the previous album ("Extremities, Dirt & Various Repressed Emotions") and side project Murder, Inc. (Martin Atkins-assembled group of all the KJ members past and present minus Coleman) is apparent ("Exorcism", "Black Moon"), but so is the Middle Eastern music that has so heavily influenced Coleman's compositional works ("Pandemonium", "Millenium" and "Communion" in particular, all among the best of the Killing Joke catalog) and the Youth's techno/ambient production work ("Labyrinth" and the relentless "Whiteout"). Its really a standout album-- sort of tribal Killing Joke sounds meets Middle Eastern percussion meets industrial. Lyrically, Coleman is largely concerned with his belief that the world will reduce into tribes (a theme that would reoccur on the followup), although some songs are far more human in nature-- notably the swirling "Jana", about a woman with A.I.D.S. There's a couple moments that aren't particularly exciting ("Pleasures of the Flesh"), but these are few and far between.

This reissue is remastered with a couple bonus tracks and at least one unexpected surprise. Sonically, by and large there's minimal differences to the original issue-- the bass is somewhat subdued (it was positively thunderous on the album), but there is one key difference. "Pandemonium" hasn't just been remastered, its been remixed-- guitar lines that were previously not there or well buried rise and fall and the main riff drops out during the verses, which it never did before. Honestly, I'm not so pleased with this, though I may change my mind.

The bonus tracks include two remixes-- the "A Thread of Steel in the Suspension Bridge of Time and Space Mix" of "Pandemonium" is largely disposable-- its like the old dub mixes Killing Joke used to do, but adds a dance beat to the mix. I'm generally not looking for that, and the "Portobello mix" of a piece called "Another Cult Goes Down". Same deal with the sound, though I'm not familiar with the original (is it released?).

This album is essential for any Killing Joke fan, or any industrial fan, or anyone interested in genre-fusing music. Its a great record, highly recommended.

A nice addition to the music collections of Metal fans everywhere. A rarity that is like a cherry on top of your sundae. I know no other band that is like Killing Joke. Their style is welcome in my book. I cannot comment on their other albums because I don't own them, but Pandemonium is killer good. This is the newer version with a couple extra tracks. Buy it!
