One of my old favorites..........2007-05-23
This is my second copy of this album - I had a cassette 'back in the day'. Of course, I wore it out.
LA Guns was 'created' by Tracii Guns (original Guns of Guns n Roses) and fronted by Phil Lewis, whose slightly
accented (English) wailing makes them singularly different among their set (also comprised of GnR, Faster Pussycat, etc.) with a less polished look but similar 'sex, drugs, RnR' flavor to their music.
Although I never really got into their 'later' stuff (except for 'Ballad of Jayne' of course) this album has remained a 'must' whenever I need some hard, aggressive, screamy, FUN stuff...
Love them...
OGs in LA.......2007-02-07
solid rock album, plenty of blues influence, the original cast was always the best
L.A.Guns - self-titled (MCA).......2006-10-25
The heavy metal band's 1988 stunning debut record. Saw L.A.Guns on this very tour. No doubt about it,this band had their bout with stardom for a few years there. Tracks that I remember digging the most were "Sex Action","One More Reason","Electric Gypsy"(always loved the MTV video for this song),the rocking "B**ch Is Back" and "Hollywood Tease". Couldn't help BUT to notice their Aerosmith and Motley Crue influences. Line-up: Phil Lewis-vocals, Traci Guns & Mick Cripps (does he still have his day job at the Cleopatra label?) - guitars, Kelly Nickels-bass and one-time W.A.S.P. member Steve Riley-drums. Something I wanted mention here, is that L.A.Guns is currently on a stateside tour of clubs. Their ads usually read, 'With Original Vocalist'. What some of you may not know is that their ORIGINAL...'original' vocalist was Paul Black,NOT Phil Lewis. So keep that in mind if you decided to check them out. A should-have, if you a fan of this genre.
welcome to hollywood.......2006-07-20
if you like hard rock then you've come to the right place. the combo of phil lewis on vocals and tracii guns on lead guitar make it happen. definite head-bobbers: no mercy, sex action, electric gypsy, and hollywood tease highlight the disc but there are certainly not any throw aways. get this bad boy used @ a low price and find out for yourself, you won't be dissappointed.
Outstanding Debut!.......2005-09-19
For me this album was extremely hard to find and when I finally found it I was so excited to finally get to hear it and when I listened to it I was amazed, this album is a very solid debut, the beginning tracks are just outstanding and the last few tracks it seems that they kind of went down hill but they were still very solid tracks. This album just proves that L.A.Guns is a truly underrated band and should be ranked right up with the likes of Motley Crue and Poison. Recommended!

A HARD ROCKIN' GEM.......2007-05-26
ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM FROM A GREAT BAND. THESE GUYS ROCK! STAND OUT TRACKS INCLUDE "NEVER ENOUGH","RIP AND TEAR" AND "THE BALLAD OF JAYNE" WHICH WAS AMAZINGLY A TOP 40 HIT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RECORD TO ANY ROCKER.
Definitive L.A. Guns album.......2007-05-17
THE BAND: Tracii Guns (guitar, sitar), Philip Lewis (vocals), Mick Cripps (guitar, piano), Kelly Nickels (bass, harmonic), Steve Riley (drums & percussion).
THE DISC: (1989) 14 tracks clocking in at approximately 54 minutes. Included with the disc is a 4-page foldout containing song titles/credits/times, song lyrics, 2 band photos, and thank you's. This is the band's 2nd album. The album features guest appearances by Cheap Trick members Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen. Label - Vertigo / Polygram Records.
COMMENTS: Hands down, "Cocked & Loaded" is L.A.Guns' most polished and complete record... period. 14 tracks of rocking sleazy big aqua-net induced hair glam. One of their biggest hits and perhaps their most radio friendly tune, "The Ballad Of Jayne", is here... along with minor hits "Never Enough" and "Rip And Tear". Other highlights include "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Sleazy Come Easy Go", "Malaria", and "17 Crash". First and foremost this is a guitar album - this is Tracii Guns' band - and it shows. Great melodies, crunchy rhythms and ripping solos. With "Cocked & Loaded", L.A.Guns quickly established themselves as a band to be reckoned with on the Los Angeles late 80's music scene... right up there with the ranks of Motley Crue, Skid Row, Bullet Boys, Warrant, White Lion, Cinderella, Winger and Poison. Years later L.A.Guns is still hanging around (with several more albums under their belt), but none matched the songwriting and playing of this one (4.5 stars).
rip n' tear.......2006-07-20
there is not a hint of the 'sophmore slump' anywhere near this album. if your the kinda person who likes to put in a cd and hear it from cover to cover, then look no further. considerably their best album to date, this beaut leaves no doubt that LAG was at the top of their game. if your ready for a full assault on your ear drums, buy it. purchase it used @ low price and you can't go wrong.
One of their greatest.......2006-02-07
This album is absolutley one of L.A. Guns greatest albums ever and was ver underrated, there is not one bad spot on this album from beginning to end. Phil Lewis's voice has never sounded better specially on Never Enoughs chorus, leaves me speechless that he can sing like that. this album, like I said was underrated even though it did go platinum, the only song people seem to remember is "The Ballad of Jayne" which is a great song, but in my opinion is not the best, this whole cd is memorable and shouldnt just be known for just one song "highly recommended"
AWESOME hair metal/hard rock - genre fans will LOVE this!.......2006-01-12
Even though L.A. Guns weren't deemed "as good" or weren't as popular as Guns 'n' Roses or AC/DC, they were still very very good (for a couple albums). Most people seem to laugh at the thought of hair metal, but for those who can look past these criticisms this is just great fun! Singer Phil Lewis is an excellent and very likable vocalist who, although he arguably isn't as great as AC/DC's, for example, still gets the job done. L.A. Guns aren't bothered with trying to be the most politically aware or thought-provoking group on the planet, so it's at least good that every song here makes for a great and energetic hard rock album (minus the slow-natured "The Ballad Of Jayne"). Every song is good or great, and, although none are necessarily memorable, they're all fun to listen to while you're playing it. The lyrics, like I said, aren't intelligent at all, but they're catchy and fun - in this genre that's half the battle. Musically it's pretty standard hard rock, but they deliver in terms of catchy, fun and energetic rock songs. The musicianship, though derivative, is still really really good. This may not be music that everyone will like, but if you love hair metal then "Cocked & Loaded" is one of the best albums you can buy! Highly recommended!

the entire album!

guns guns guns.......2007-02-07
vampires is great, same great flavor of the first two albums, but a little more refined
Excellent CD - I just picked it up the other day.......2006-07-26
I have seen LA Guns 4X live and have several cd's by them, but I never purchased this one for some reason. Let me tell you, this cd is good, real good. Phil Lewis and the band have more of a blues sound on this release, yet still has that sleaze rock element that sets Guns apart from most. I rank Vampires up there with Tales, Waking and the first release. One thing that I have noticed is that Lewis is really what seperates the LA Guns releases with him singing on it compared to the other two w/o him. Lewis is an integral part of the band and they all shine on Vampires.
vamps.......2006-07-20
the much anticipated follow-up to cocked and loaded. yes, the sound is lighter which often leads people to knock the recording. that being said, the album does provide us a different look at the band, while also delivering the goods. we still have great tracks, such as: over the edge, kiss my love goodbye, here it comes, crystal eyes, it's over now, and dirty luv (my personal favorite). phil lewis probably does his best 'singing' on this album and well tracii guns is tracii guns. for LAG gun fans, a must have....for those casual listeners, check it out anyway, your probably gonna like it and for a couple of bucks used, there's no reason to not buy it.
Another solid album from the LA Guns.......2005-12-13
LA Guns third album "Hollywood Vampires" (1991) is perhaps the most underrated album in the band's catalogue. It was released at the very tail end of the pop-metal era that dominated the 80s and early 90s, right before the onslaught of the grunge revolution. Its singles unfortunately never really got a healthy run on the radio because in just a few short months of its release, Nirvana's "Nevermind" changed all the rules and the LA Guns were left out in the cold.
"Hollywood Vampires" pretty much takes up where "Cocked & Loaded" (1989) left-off, but this time the band incorporates some old-school Aerosmith, blues-based boogie-groves into their sound. The band's songwriting is as good as ever and the album lacks neither good hooks nor memorable melodies. "Hollywood Vampire" is basically the LA Guns "Toys in the Attic" (1975).
If "Hollywood Vampires" had been released just a year earlier, and gotten a good push, it could have maintained the momentum that the band built with its first two albums and even expanded their fan base. Instead, "Hollywood Vampires" ended up as an also-ran that has been largely forgotten.
If you are a fan of the bands first two album and missed "Hollywood Vampires" the first time around, this CD is highly recommended.
Awsome Album!.......2005-09-17
When I first heard this album, I loved it, and I still do, now I admitt that this cd wasnt AS good as Cocked & Loaded, but its still a really great cd. Their are a few songs that are "iffy" on this album, but for the most part this is a truly great cd. Highlights would be: Over the Edge, Kiss my love goodbye, My Koo Ka Choo, It's Over Now. My personal favorite was My Koo Ka Choo, and people have been saying "Oh, thats a stupid name for a song so it sucks because of that" Who cares what the name of the song is, as long as its a great Rock N'Roll song I dont care, and thats what it is a great Rock song, even better, a great Rock album!

Best L.A.Guns hits collection.......2005-09-20
Im a huge L.A.Guns fan and frankly im dissapointed with all of their recent "Greatest Hits" for 2 reasons.
1.Their are TOO MANY OF THEM
2.They're not original recordings
Now I understand that L.A.Guns were trying to "up" there original songs by re-recording them and I respect that, but they did it to many times, just look at how many they've came out with:
Golden Bullets
Greatest Hits & Black Beauties
The Very Best of...
Fully Loaded
Hollywood-a-go-go
ULTIMATE! L.A.Guns
and now this one...
the thing that makes this best of better then the rest is this one is all original recordings, and im sorry but id rather hear some kick-ass original recordings then hear a band keep trying and trying to re-recording them and not do a very good job, this is the greatest hits you should get!
The best L.A. Guns greatest hits collection, so far.......2005-07-19
Before this cd, there were a couple of other greatest hits compilations for L.A. Guns (in the US), both of which featured rerecordings or live versions of their hit songs. These were 'Greatest Hits and Black Beauties' (1999, Cleopatra) and 'Ultimate L.A. Guns' (2002, Cleopatra). While those albums had their moments, a lot of die-hard fans were very disappointed that neither of those collections featured original hit recordings.
The good news is that '20th Century Masters- The Millenium Collection: The Best of L.A. Guns' features original recordings of their hit songs. The first four full studio albums by the band (for Polygram) are all represented here. An ep called 'Cuts', which was a stop-gap release for L.A. Guns on Polygram, goes unrepresented but the majority of the buyers will barely notice.
Unlike most hits collections (pick a band), the track listing here is virtually flawless. The best songs of these albums are included. The selection borders heavier on the 'Hollywood Vampires' album (four songs in all), with the least amount of songs coming from the 'Vicious Circle' album. The other two albums covered, the self-titled debut and 'Cocked and Loaded' are each represented with three songs. The fact that the songs are listed in chronological order, based on the album they are taken from, is a nice touch.
"The Ballad of Jayne", "Face down", "Sex action" and "Over the edge" are four of the best on here. While not everything on this cd was a hit single, any L.A. Guns fan worth their salt will instantly recognize every last song on here. All the tracks, from one to twelve, either once were or still are concert staples in the L.A. Guns live set.
At this price, you won't find a better introduction to L.A. Guns. While there is nothing new or unreleased on here, the label did an extremely good job with the song selection. There isn't a weak track on here. Anybody who enjoys this would do well to try at least one or two of the original albums to see where the songs came from in the first place. There are good songs to be found that didn't make the cut here.
If you already have the original studio albums, you could probably skip this one. Nonetheless, this comes highly recommended to a new fan who will get the opportunity to hear L.A. Guns at their best and in their prime. '20th Century Masters' is a superior greatest hits collection to anything else out there for L.A. Guns. Unlike the other best-of's for L.A. Guns, these are the original versions that you remember and not cheap rerecordings.
ROCKN FRANK OF SO CAL.......2005-05-02
THIS COLLECTION SERVES AS A GOOD INTRODUCTION TO THE BAND. RE-
MASTERED, THIS CD COVERS THEIR CAREER FROM 1987 TO 1995. THE 12
TRACKS ARE PULLED FROM FOUR ALBUMS- LA GUNS, COCKED & LOADED,
HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES, AND VICIOUS CIRCLE. I PREFER ORIGINAL SONGS
OVER RE-RECORDINGS, ON THAT OTHER BEST OF COLLECTION THAT IS ON
THE MARKET. THIS IS AN INEXPENSIVE INTRO TO THE BAND. SEX ACTION, RIP & TEAR, BALLAD OF JAYNE, OVER THE EDGE, LONG TIME
DEAD, ONE MORE REASON, IT'S OVER NOW, ARE ALL HERE ON ONE CD.

Customer Reviews:
Not Bad...Not Great.......2007-07-25
This disc has gotten great reviews from numerous sources. And not just from die-hard L.A. Guns fans who would rave about anything the band put out on the market, regardless of who was in the band. And, for about 10 years, it's been nearly impossible to tell who IS in the band at any given time. Both on record and live.
That said, this is not a bad cd. But it certainly isn't great either. It's the 2nd disc of new material released since Phil Lewis rejoined the band around the turn of the millenium. It's great to hear Phil & Tracii back together again and the cover-art by Maxine Miller is excellent. In both look and sound, it appeared that vintage L.A. Guns were back at the top of their game.
There's only one problem...the songs! Tracii Guns continues to be under-appreciated as a guitarist and Phil's voice seems to be in fine form but something is missing. That energy. Attitude. Spark. That chemistry combined with great songs that made releases like "Cocked and Loaded" superb are just not here. It's an o.k. cd. And loyal L.A. Guns fanatics will love it. However, for the rest of us, it's just an average to good recording. So, I can't recommend going down to your local record store and dropping a $20 bill on this one. Sorry Tracii!
Super RAd.......2006-05-09
One of the best releases from the Guns, period. Their newest album "Tales from the Strip" rivals this one, but Waking the Dead is a masterpiece in its own form. There are some godly riffs from Tracii, killer vocals from everyone's favorite frontman Philly Lewis, and all the tracks are fantastic. The songs are very well produced and the bands' songwriting majesty really shows through on this one.
In conclusion...Killer album. I hope the L.A. guns make tons of money of this album and maybe theyll even be...LOADED.
Traci Guns screwed up ............................2006-04-21
Traci, you helped write this cd, you play lead guitar on it and then when the Guns went on tour, you quit them for Brides. F Traci Guns. This cd is excellent. Its LA Guns brand of metal, raw, yet produced w/ class. Oh and by the way, Stacey Blades does real well as THE LA Guns guitar player, he outperforms Traci, has a better demeanor and is a showman. Waking the Dead is another fine release by LA Guns.
Thats the shiittt!.......2005-09-28
As simple as this. If you like killer riffs and straight-from-the-hip rock, this album rocks from start to finish.
An unexpected gem this late in the game for the real Gunners!!!

This album OWNS!!!.......2007-06-13
This album shows why L.A. Guns were ust as good as Guns N Roses. Awesome album, hard and heavy Guns style. Best rock n roll out there. Sickly underrated!!
Re-Issue Please!.......2007-05-22
This is one of the studio albums I don't have by L.A. Guns, (the other being American Hardcore, for obvious reasons). I got A Night On The Strip (LIVE) for the reason that there are a few songs from this CD on it...still kicking myself for not purchasing this CD when it first came out in '95 I believe it was. Would be great if they would reissue, remaster, add some bonus cuts...whatever, with all the new albums they have had out lately like Waking The Dead, Man On The Moon you would think this one would deserve some notice also. Hopefully they will do it right, not re-recording, or re-releasing another greatest hits, but rather just remastering this one for long time fans who have overlooked this gem.
LA GUNS JOURNEY!.......2006-08-30
Let Mr. PHIL LEWIS take YOU on a journey! You may not want to return!!!! ha ha (I love this cd) EVERY single track is rockn' and really really makes U feel the music, keeps you wanting more and just keep rolling along on this magical music journey! LA GUNS just keeps giving us great music! Please do yourself a favor and purchase this magnificient cd! ENJOY! Miss Kelly
Unfairly never got a chance.......2005-12-17
After a three year hiatus, the LA Guns returned to the scene in 1994 for their fourth album "Vicious Circle." The musical landscape had seen a major change between the release of "Hollywood Vampires" (1991) and "Vicious Circle." The LA Guns brand of sleazy pop-metal that had so defined the band's first three albums was completely passé by the mid 90s. In 1994 it was all about grunge and alternative rock.
Pop metal bands who enjoyed success in the late 80s and early 90s generally responded to the public's change in taste in one of two ways. They either lived in a vacuum, acting as though Nirvana and Pearl Jam had never taken place (Vince Neil) or they embraced a pseudo grunge/alternative sound in an attempt to modernize (Motley Crue). The LA Guns opted for a third option; keep the main elements of their sound but make a very aggressive album.
So what you have with "Vicious Circle" is a 80s pop-metal band, a product of the sunset strip, trying to fit in to the alt-rock 90s without selling out. "Vicious Circe" succeeds in this attempt. The band still encompasses their signature Aerosmith/Zeppelin riffs, melody and sing along choruses, only the band eschews much of the sleaze that had been a major element of their first three albums. The band also sounds far more aggressive, but without sounding forced, a problem that pretty much ruined the band's next release "American Hardcore" (1996). Although the songs aren't quite as catchy or memorable as those on the first three albums, the band hadn't sounded this edgy or hungry since their self-titled debut (1988). Guitarist Tracii Guns came up with a batch of great riffs that leaves the listener feeling fully satisfied.
"Vicious Circle" would prove to be the end of an era. It was the band's last album with its (mostly) original lineup until 2001's "Man on the Moon." Phil Lewis, (vocals) Mick Cripps (guitar) and Kelly Nickels (bass) would not return for the follow-up album. Only Tracii Guns would be back for "American Hardcore." The band's usual drummer Steve Riley sat out "Vicious Circle" and is replaced by a number of studio players (he would be back for all subsequent LAG releases).
Although the LA Guns released a fine album, "Vicious Circle" unfortunately went nowhere commercially. After the release of Nirvana's "Nevermind" the line was drawn in the sand. With the emergence of grunge and alternative rock, many great bands had their careers torpedoed. The LA Guns were unfortunately one of grunge rock's victims. This is a shame, because while "Vicious Circle" isn't a masterpiece, it's still a better than average rock album that deserves to be heard.
If you are a fan of the band and missed "Vicious Circle" the first time around, try giving it a second chance today.
It All Started Here For Me.......2005-09-18
It all started with this L.A.Guns cd for me, it was the VERY first cd I ever owned, thats probably why I love it so much, but theres something more about this album that I love besides the fact that it was my first album. They got a little bit harder then what fans were use to hearing from the first 3 albums and I think thats a reason why some fans were dissapointed, but for me it was dissapointing at all, I dont know I just love this style that they did, its not what L.A.Guns is really about, but ive never heard this hard rock style sound so good, they did a great job on this album and I do recommend it for true L.A.Guns fans, give this album a chance, it will truly grow on you.

cool cd for diehards.......2004-11-04
This is an interesting cd for L.A. Guns fans. It's all demo versions of the songs that ended up on the first record and several more that did not make it onto that record. The sound quality is pretty good and some of the tracks are significantly different than what ended up on their self titled debut. It's definitely worth buying.

The opposite of excellent.......2006-01-04
My grandmother eating a ham sandwich sounds more like LA Guns than this does.
LA Guns weakest album.......2005-12-13
1996 saw the emergence of a new, (albeit short-lived) LA Guns. After almost a decade with the band, bassist Kelly Nickels, guitarist Mick Cripps and singer Phil Lewis left the band. The new lineup brought Johnny Crypt (bass) and Chris Van Dahl (vocals) into the fold. Holdovers Tracii Guns (Guitar) and Steve Riley (Drums) filled out the lineup.
Musically, American Hardcore takes up where "Vicious Circle" (1994) left off. With "Vicious Circle" the band had been eschewing their signature pop-metal in favor of a more aggressive sound. This worked with "Vicious Circle" because the band still came up with some good hooks and Phil Lewis added melody and made the songs memorable. The band is less successful, however, with "American Hardcore." Chris Van Dahl is by no means a bad singer. He would actually fit in just fine fronting a death metal or hardcore band, but he just isn't right for LA Guns. Dahl's throaty growl just doesn't mesh with the band. But it just isn't Dahl that ruins the album. The album sounds forced, as thought they were trying too hard to sound aggressive. The album isn't a total failure; there are some ideas here and there, and some good riffs and solos, but overall, the album doesn't work.
If you are a hard-core fan or collector, you will want to own this disc. Casual fans are advised to stay away.
10 years later and this still sounds like crap !.......2005-12-12
This crap makes death metal sound melodic. It's laughable at best and what's worse is that I saw them on this tour with Van Dahl on vocals and everyone walked out on the band because it was billed as L.A.Guns and this is not L.A. Guns. Suckups to the band will argue that it's just heavier than the normal L.A. Guns sound but that doesn't account for the despicable attempts at song writing that ended up on this cd. If you want to hear L.A. Guns sound heavier than usual, then buy Traci Guns solo cd. It is freakin' heavy and it rocks. The songs are great.
Nope.......2005-11-17
I had this cd for a while then proceeded to get rid of it. It's LA Guns trying to sound like Pantera, mainly because of the singer. The 'real' Guns albums are the ones with Phil Lewis who is a great singer. I dont want to hear Pantera when i put on a LA Guns cd. Keep that in mind if you buy this album.
Without Phil?.......2005-09-18
Now when I first recieved this album, I was really excited to hear it being an L.A.Guns fan, but when I listened to the first few tracks I was truly dissapointed, for a few reasons
1:They changed their name to "The L.A.Guns"
2:Tracii Guns was the only original member in this lineup
3:They went into the Heavy Metal scene which is NOT L.A.Guns style at all.
I didnt like how they changed to the heavy metal scene because im not all that into heavy metal for 1, and for 2 because it is not L.A.Guns, this album was just a pathetic attempt to gain new fans since they started to fall off the map after the Vicious Circle flop, now dont get me wrong, I thought Vicious Circles was a great album, but this album they took it a step to far, and with this album you can tell that they were truly hurting without the vocals of Phil Lewis. The only positive that came out of this album was some pretty cool guitar riffs. I only recommend this album if your a TRUE L.A.Guns fan.

Not as bad as people say.......2006-02-07
Well ok, maybe this recording isnt nearly as good as the original Cocked & Loaded, but it still isnt that bad, or atleast as bad as people say. As you may have read from other reviewers, Vertigo wouldnt release the original songs to L.A. Guns so they had to re-record them. On this re-recording of their master piece, you can tell that they didnt put half as much heart & energy into this then with there original recording, but there are some songs they did that proved to be just as good as the originals, there are some downsides aswell, they didnt seem like they found the same chemistry on the song Sleazy Come, Easy Go and in my opinion Malaria, but really those are the only downsides and yes Phil Lewis's voice sounds a little rusty but other then that this album wast half as bad as people say
I recommend this album for true L.A. Guns fans, for the fans who want to hear the best sound, grab the original Cocked & Loaded.
For the die-hards that already own the origanal.......2005-12-18
The premise of this album seems stupid. Why would a band re-record an album that is already a classic? But the LA Guns had their reasons. Because Vertigo Records owned the masters to the original "Cocked & Loaded" and wouldn't release them to the LA Guns, the band had no choice but to re-record the entire album if they wanted to do whatever they wanted to do with the songs.
Compared to the original "Cocked & Loaded," "Cocked & Re-Loaded" sounds far rawer, more live, more one-take, spur-of-the-moment. The band has obviously been playing these songs for years, went into the studio, cut their album, and went home, probably in a week. While "Cocked & Re-Loaded" can't compare to the original album, if you are a fan of the band and the original album, "Cocked & Re-Loaded" is worth owning, as it offers an interesting take on one of the band's finest recordings. The one real downside is that singer Phil Lewis's voice, while not shot, is not what it once was. Still, "Cocked & Reloaded" should please fans of the band and is recommended to those that already have the original. If you don't have the original "Cocked & Loaded," make sure to buy that first.
Ignore the harsh reviews.......2002-08-23
Being an LA GUNS fan since 88 I can say Cocked and Reloaded is far from a dissapointment.
It was never recorded to sound fresh and new it was recorded for the simple fact that Vertigo hold the rights to the recordings but not the songs and would not release them to LA Guns. So instead of a big battle they re-recorded the songs and if you ask me they sound a lot rawer and less polished than the original giving it the feel of the debut cd.
I love the new and old version and if you can get one or even both you are in for a real treat....
Phil Lewis has one of the best voices in rock.
Cocked & ReLoaded.......2001-02-01
Slap in the Face, Malaria, 17 Crash, and I'm Addicted are as good if not better then the orig, but the remander of this recording is not as good as Cocked & Loaded. Track down Cocked & Loaded and the Liberators CD instead if you can, Phils voice is much better on those recordings.
This one and Black Beauties are not the best of the 3 Cleopatra releases. Given the choice go for Live! A Night On The Strip. Phils voice recovered on that CD and proves that he can take the test of time.
Not at all What I Expected.......2000-12-23
This release was a big dissapointment. When I heard that they re recorded Cocked and Loaded I thought it was going to sound fresh and new, and that they were going to update the songs that I consider to be glam metal classics. Then when I saw it in the store I bought it thinking it was going to be good. From the outside the packaging looks really good but that like the album was also a dissapointment. First off this album sounds like it was recorded at a soundcheck, and secondly Phil Lewis' voice doesn't even sound that good. On this album they managed to ruin songs such as Sleazy Come Easy Go, Never Enough, Showdown, and the Ballad of Jayne. They do however redo some songs decently such as Slap in the Face, Malaria, 17 Crash, and Tracii's guitar solo I'm Addicted. As a matter of fact the only thing that saves this album is Tracii Guns' guitar playing. He proves that he is a very capable guitarist. The last song on the album is a remix of Rip and Tear. Which was just put on there to take up space and doesn't belong on any album the only place it belongs is in the garbage because that's what it is. As a long time Guns fan it kills me to say it but it's the truth, we'll just have to see what they come with in 2001. My advice to anyone is to get the original Cocked and Loaded, don't waste your money on this.

Customer Reviews:
Good...Not Great.......2007-08-02
I feel the exact same way about this disc as I did about "Waking the Dead." It's a good record w/ some exceptional songs. The hooks are there. The sound and production (by ex-Gunner Gilby Clarke) isn't bad. Maxine Miller provides some beautiful art work. Mark "Muddy" Dutton is on bass, who provided some necessary "intangibles" to Col. Parker's "Rock n' Roll Music" and Jizzy Pearl's "Vegas Must Die!" And it's great to have Phil & Tracii back together again. Most people would disagree, but there have been some moments where they've been able to compete with the Toxic Twins (Steven Tyler & Joe Perry), Axl & Slash, etc.
And that's the problem! While songs like the title-track, "Good Thing," and "Hypnotized" are excellent and Tracii's guitar playing has never sounded better, there just aren't enough stand-out songs to make this cd or "Waking the Dead" great. If you took the best songs from both of those discs, you'd have an album that would rank up there with "Cocked & Loaded." Instead, you just have another decent cd that is really only going to appeal to hard-core L.A. Guns fans and, possibly, a few casual hair-metal afficionados. And that's a shame!
This is L.A. Guns.......2007-05-31
This album is a rock N roll mater work. Tracii Guns belts ot amazing riffs, and power, being the guitar lord he is. Awesome return album!
A return to form.......2005-12-13
After going through numerous lineup changes throughout the latter half of the 90s, the (mostly) original lineup of the LA Guns reformed for 2001's "Man in the Moon." It was singer Phil Lewis and guitarist Mick Cripps first album with the band since 1994's "Vicious Circle."
Released in 2001, a full decade after the whole sunset strip scene ceased to be relevant, the LA Guns act as though grunge, post-grunge, and nu-metal never took place. The band pretty much pick up where they left off last time around with "Vicious Circle," only the band embraces more of their signature pop-metal sound that they had abandoned since "Hollywood Vampires (1991). Guitarist Tracii Guns still has his chops and can write mean riffs, and Phil Lewis sounds as good as ever. The band's music still encompasses the same themes as the LA Guns of the late 80s; only now, almost self-consciously aware that they are middle aged, sound more refined, more mature. The songwriting throughout the disc is mostly quite strong, with the title track, "Spider's Web" and "Scream" being particular standouts. The rest of the album is strong, although not quite as memorable as the self-titled album (1988), "Cocked and Loaded," (1989) or "Hollywood Vampires."
If you are a fan of the LA Guns and/or pop metal in general, this album is recommended.
Finally, L.A.Guns is back........2005-09-18
After a 7-year slump, L.A.Guns has finally given me a reason to purchase their ablums. I really missed Phil Lewis on their last 2 releases (American Hardcore & Shrinking Violet) and I know L.A.Guns were hurting without him to. On this album, Phils voice isnt quite what it was back in the 80's, but atleast he's back. This album has its high points and its low points, it seems like they really tried for the first few songs but as the album progressed its like they stopped trying but overall its a good album, not great but good. Recommended for L.A.Guns fans.
You're Better Off Waking The Dead.......2003-04-16
"Man in the Moon" is an awesome track, and I play it over and over and over and..well you get it, and track 2, "Beautiful" is nicely done and I enjoy it lots. And then that's it. Its nice to have Phil back in the band, there is no other vocalist for L.A. Guns than him, but I'm so glad Waking The Dead is out. I got this album based on two things..It's L.A. Guns and Phil Lewis is back, but they just dont make it work like they do on Waking. The tracks on here are just boring. Absolutely boring. "Man In the Moon" I can't say enough good things about it its just one my favourite all time songs. But I'm disappointed with the rest. And I feel bad for it. I just couldnt get it in to it. If anyone out there feels the way I do, you will be happy with Waking the Dead, thier 2002 release. Stick with that and other L.A. Guns CD that have Phil on it. May i suggest the wicked Vicious Circle??
