Album Description
Founded by violinist Chris Vitas and guitarist Fred Benedetti, Keltik Kharma started as a duo. Chris and Fred were known as the "MIDI Bros." performing a variety of styles of music including Celtic with MIDI instruments. After many years Chris & Fred went back to their roots with acoustic violin & guitar and started to play traditional Celtic music, but with some interesting differencesthey would change meters (time feel) from 6/8 to 4/4, or 9/8 to 3/4. This was interesting for them and their audiences. The new CD Keltik Kharma is a departure from the traditional Celtic music that Chris & Fred play because 90% of it is original music. The tunes are written by outstanding musicians from the San Diego area that both Fred & Chris have known for many years. Some of the tunes from the CD, Loch Lavan Castle, As I Roved Out, and Keltik Kharma were on the top 10 of celtic music for over a month. Loch Lavan Castle, in fact was number one for most of the month of April, 2000.

Bring back some more of this..........2006-05-24
I bought this from MelodicRock.com's review. It has been played alot for the past couple years. I'm really getting into retro stuff recently. This is a nice mix of quality AOR music. Yes, I hear Styx, Foreigner, Journey (sorta), and countless others. For harder rock, try Wolfmother or Big Elf. I'm looking forward to more from Jet too.
First-class AOR album.......2006-03-15
It's great to finally see a band take advantage of Goran Edman's fantastic vocal talents. He had previously spent time providing brief vocal interludes between extended guitar solos for Yngwie Malmsteen, and fronted the group Glory, but with Kharma, Edman really has a chance to shine.
Wonderland (sadly, Kharma's only album) is a great mix of pomp rock and AOR. Styx, Kansas, and Journey are the obvious comparisons, but Kharma manages to blend the styles without sounding like a copycat. Much credit goes to Edman's vocal performance. He really sounds his best in an AOR setting, and his voice on Wonderland is strong, melodic, emotional, and dramatic - everything you could possibly ask for. I'm a Goran Edman fan, so I was inclined to like this album on the basis of his performance alone, but everything about this album works - the song structures, melodies, lyrics, and musicians' performance.
Wonderland is an absolute first-class melodic rock album, and should appeal to all AOR/classic rock fans, particularly fans of Styx, Kansas, Journey, and Queen.
Edman would go on to sing for the Journey-obsessed band Street Talk. A good AOR group to be sure, but just not as memorable or fun as Kharma.
A breath of fresh air.......2000-06-02
This is an absolutely killer arena-rock album; it sounds like someone put Queen, Styx and Kansas in a blender, and there has been nothing like it for at least ten years, probably more. The production is a little too over-the-top; the lyrics of "Burn Forever" are drowned out by keyboards, and "In Chains" would have been awesome at three and a half minutes, instead of borderline torturous at six and a half. Still, "Wonderland" and "Ray of Sunshine" are nothing short of masterpieces, and the rest of the album is solid and gets better with each listening. If any of the current crop of "melodic rock" bands has a shot at real commercial success, it's these guys.
[Similarities: Styx, Foreigner, Kansas].......2000-05-20
My initial thought on this disc was "TOTALLY unoriginal Styx cloning". But that was only because I wasn't paying that much attention at first. When I gave this album it's proper due I noticed that my first comment wasn't entirely fair. They sound like Styx, no doubt, but where they sound like it the most is on the glorious choruses (which is usually helps form the first impression). Beyond that, throw some huge helpings of early Foreigner, Kansas and even some Stryper and the end mix is mostly a monstrous piece of arena rock surrounded by some drab "by the numbers" melodic rock fillers. Singer Goran Edman is in fine form and complimented nicely by the beautiful keyboard work of Atilla Szabo. Of the thirteen songs, bits like "Free Yourself", "Knowing You", "Standing Alone" and "Ray Of Sunshine" are an AOR purists' wet dream and are some of the most instantly likable tracks I've heard (and will have you singing for days on end). At times though, like on the title track (which apes "The Grand Illusion" to a tee), that feeling of unoriginality hits pretty hard. Here and there a few tunes are also pretty average (the plodding "Part Time Lovers" or the dated "Spell On You" springs to mind) and probably could have been left out without a care. This is an album that sets the bar pretty high for AOR (and actually suffers from it as well) for when the band is on the music is spectacular. When they are off (even by the slightest bit), you cannot help but feel a little let down.

Jean Beauvoir shines on this album.......2003-05-12
Jean Beauvoir proves himself to be a multi-facetad performer on "Kharma". Crown of Thorns does their original compositions such as "Believer", a richly-lyriced song written by Jean, and "Before it Slips Away", a rocking love song. The most outstanding track on this album, however, is the amazingly executed cover of George Harrison's classic, "My Sweet Lord". Beauvoir is off the beaten path, but this Crown of Thorns CD is well worth the journey. Highly Recommended!

KHARMA ZU is RedHOT+RAD.......2000-04-16
Rahmani and his band added new flavor to the pop stew by combining the atmospheric complexity of modern American composers such as Dave Matthews and the Brand New Heavies. The sophisticated irony of their music reflects the best and worst of living in the 21st century they are helping to define. Diversity is this band's key to creating simply pleasurable music that has also managed to be mature and profound. Five stars and two thumbs up for Kharma Zhu.

Unitl my recent move to Atlanta, I have had the pleasure of seeing KZ live both in NJ and in New York City. Never once was I let down by a performance. I left every show pumped up and found myself humming the tunes for days afterwards. Every time I play the bands first CD in my car people ALWAYS ask "Hey! This is good what band is it?" An AMAZING group of guys, OUTSTANDING lyrics and music. (Yes, it's ALL their own) My only problem: they haven't played for me here in GEORGIA! What's the hold up guys! Miss ya all! A SOLID INVESTMENT.
Kharma Zhu is a drug, and I'm addicted!.......2000-03-13
You know that type of music that if you hear once and then twice... you NEED to here over again - well that is the appeal of Kharma Zhu's newest CD (and by far my favorite) NO LIES. These guys are just awesome - it starts off with a bang "Music in My World" is on fire. It really gets me on this music high and does not stop. From "Where I go" (the second track) to the conclusion "Like Brother", these guys get you hooked and wanting more.
I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes bands like Dave Mathews, rusted root, Counting Crows, or even the Gypsy Kings. I am definately flying into NY for their big St.Patricks day show at Bowery Ballroom! Cant wait for that! 5 stars for KZ!
Kharma Zhu ROCKS.......2000-02-10
I live in NYC, so i have had the pleasure of seeing these guys live many a time and have always walked away completely satisfied and on a great music high... the CD is no different! If anything, my roommates have to pry it from my portable CD player for their share of listening time as i have it in all the time!
"Music in my world" is by far my favorite...it is just an upbeat fun song, but I love love love the flamenco guitar intros on "Where I Go" and "Tomorrow"... Jade is absolutely AMAZING when he lets loose on the guitar! And for whatever reason, I love "I had to let you go"...i think it is because of the unique sound and the vocals that sets it apart! All in all it is a CD that I highly recommend... everyone that I have since then played it for has also given rave reviews!
