5 out of 5 stars A valuable resource for creativity.......2007-07-11

I have found Jeffery Thompson's Theta CDs a useful aid to creativity over the past 4-5yrs promoting calming and focus. I play it through Windows media player with SoundSpectum's G-Force frequency responsive image software to reinforce the effect and involve the visual brain.

5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2007-06-26

I am very pleased with this CD, the music is very calming and relaxing. I don't know if it actually gets me into a theta state as I have no way of measuring my brain waves with an EEG device but it does get me more relaxed and stress-free and thats what I care about. Highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Takes the edge off..........2007-06-13

I find this CD really helps me rejuvenate and re-energize if I haven't had enough sleep or otherwise feel fatigued. It's particularly helpful on days following a night of insomnia, and leaves me feeling as if I'd caught up on the missed sleep. It also provides powerful assistance for creative visualization sessions.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT.......2007-03-19

I LOVED THE CD'S, HOWEVER I DIDN'T GET THE BOOK. ALL OF THIS GUYS MUSIC IS PHENOMINAL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful!.......2007-02-16

I have bought several guided imagery cd's for relaxation and have found the voices on them to be irritating or the content to be kinda stupid. So I bought some nature sounds like ocean waves etc and found them to be relaxing but not exactly trance inducing. This cd is amazing. At first it just sounds like a new age cd but when you use it to meditate it pulls you in to a state of very deep relaxation. My whole body felt tingly. I don't think I have ever felt so at peace. I plan on buying all his cd's and using them every day!!!

2 out of 5 stars Blah.......2007-07-22

Hmm, the items I regret most buying seem to get the rave reviews. I guess that's because I am the only one with my taste stupid enough to buy them. Anyway, the CD was ok. I liked the songs, but they got old fairly quickly because they were all so similar. It was great to dance to! But you can only dance to the same song so many times... And the lyrics? Well, I don't really pay much attention to most lyrics... until I've listened to the song quite a few times. Once I did, I realized the lyrics were all 100% cliché. But, I suppose, what can you expect from music like this? If you have money to burn and want a CD you can listen to for a few weeks or only once in a great while, this may be for you. I personally prefer a little bit higher quality, artistically speaking - I who don't really have high standards when it comes to pop music. Still prefer it to some of the junk on the radio, though - that's cliché, too.

5 out of 5 stars My Personal Favorite.......2007-07-03

There's one way to describe this album...ecstacy...without the need for substance abuse. Play this disc start to finish. It's serene.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Trance Albums Ever.......2007-03-30

This album is perhaps the best pop vocal trance album ever, with the others being Ian Van Dahl's "Lost and Found," Alice Deejay's "Who Needs Guitars Anyway," and 4 Strings "Believe." There is no filler here, almost every single track has an amazing hook and beat. Unlike most trance albums, the lyrics are actually really good and the songs don't all sound alike. As a matter of fact, each song is somewhat different. This album is proof to the naysayers who claim that trance music is not art. This is a gem of an album, and look for the follow-up "Unique" in May 2007!

This CD brings together some of the greatest cool jazz ever recorded--Tristano's 1949 sextet sessions for Capitol and Marsh's 1956 masterpiece Jazz of Two Cities. Tristano's sessions (which feature Marsh and Lee Konitz on sax) are breathtaking displays of exciting and intellectually challenging bop, and the final two cuts--"Intuition" and "Digression"--prefigure free jazz. While less adventurous, Marsh's 1956 outing (with Ted Brown on tenor sax) is a beautiful collection of standards and originals. It clearly demonstrates why Tristano thought Marsh was one of the great jazz improvisers. --Bill Holdship

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Way Ahead of the Times!.......2002-08-29

Tristano was a musician more talked about than listened to during his heyday. But he was way ahead of his time...really music hasn't truly caught up with him (as it hasn't really caught up with any of the great innovators.) This album contains all of Tristano's classic 1949 sides recorded for Capitol with his sextet. On the surface, this stuff sounds like bop...but listen closely, it is really another world.

Most of the tunes are based on traditional chord changes, like bop heads. But the heads are more intricate, requiring more arrangement, sometimes quite complex arrangement. Warne Marsh and Lee Konitz are terrific in their solos. Both show a penchant for long winding lines that explore the farthest reaches of the chord changes, and an approach to rhythm that is both smooth and angular at the same time. The phrasing is quick and light, but the accents of the lines reach accross the time signatures.

Tristano is a wonder. He was the master of the impossibly long line...melodic material spins out from his fingers in seemingly endless streams. Tristano is all about invention. He doesn't seem to have any licks at all. You never know where line will end up. It is endlessly inventive and exciting playing. And his harmonic structure is nearly Scriabinesque.

The revolutionary cuts from this period are Intuition and Digression. Both are examples of completely free playing, something that Tristano'sgroups had been experimenting with for many years in their live gigs. This is not the kind of free playing that you would hear from the great avant-gardists of the 60's. Rather, it is full of feeling, but not emotive...exploratory but not dissonant for dissonance's sake. The players form an almost telepathic bond, with motives and phrases past around from member to member. The freedom, which is intense, never descends into chaos, as it could in the worst examples of the New York energy school. And Tristano, like Cecil Taylor after him, directs everything from the keyboard. These are experiments, but ones that every musician should hear. Close study of Tristano would put alot of energy back into the worn out "New Traditionalist" movement in jazz.

The Warne Marsh cuts from the late 50s initially disappointed me, partly because I hadn't looked carefully at the cover info, and I was expecting all Tristano. Compared to the adventurousness of the 1949 cuts, the Marsh sides sound like alot of other "West Coast School" jazz albums. But that's just a superficial reading of the recordings. More careful listening shows that Marsh really profitted from his time in New York with Tristano. His lines are still exploratory and "out" in a way that Chet Baker and even Gerry Mulligan never really approached. Marsh may have been one of the more underrated tenor players of the 50's. This set swings, but repays careful listening as well.

tThe remastering of the sides is terrific. They both sound much more modern than their dates would suggest...the Tristano sides sound cleaner than I've ever heard them, even on vinyl!

So get this disc for the Tristano sides, they are classic. But the Marsh sides are worth a listen too. You owe it to yourself to listen to these searching musicians. They will expand your appreciation of the art form of jazz.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you Amazon Listomania!.......2001-10-05

If not for listomania and the people who have chosen this cd as one of their favorites; as well as giving it glowing reviews, I never would have found it. I've never heard of Lennie Tristano in my life, but after finding this cd on Amazon I thought that I would give it a try. You can tell by my rating that I was very pleased with the results. Thanks again, everyone who recommended this one to me. I never would have discovered it without you guys.

5 out of 5 stars this music sounds as fresh today as the day it was recorded!.......1999-07-26

Years ago as a high school student, one evening after midnight, I turned on my bedside radio and came upon radio station WJZ from New York. The DJ was Symphony Sid Torin who played jazz from midnight to five A.M. That was the first time heard WOW which appears on this CD. That tune got me hooked on the players of the Tristano school. The music was entirely different than what was happening at the time and remains so today. This music sounds as fresh today as the day it was recorded. All tunes except Digression and Intuition which are the first recorded attempts at free form playing, are based on the chord progressions of standard tunes. Marionette is September in the rain, Sax of a kind is on the Fine and Dandy changes and so forth. The Warne Marsh Quintet recordings originally released in mono as Jazz of Two Cities and stereo as The Winds of Marsh, are a lot looser and more swinging. Every selection in this CD has stood the test of time. I had the 78rpm copies of the Tristano material, later on LP, and also the Warne Marsh LP. The Warne Marsh tracks also feature tenor saxophonist Ted Brown who I believe to be the freshest improviser in jazz today. Two fine examples of Ted's more current playing can be heard on the Lee Konitz CD called Figure and Spirit and Ted's own date for Criss Cross called Free Spirit. Don't miss hearing it.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest cool jazz artists you never heard of...........1999-01-13

After falling in love with The Cool (Chet Baker, Mulligan, Miles, McCoy Tyner and others) I was searching for new names. BINGO. This recording is up there with the best of the them. Buy this if you're wondering if anything will ever approach birth of the cool....

5 out of 5 stars This is beautiful music by some under-appreciated musicians.......1998-12-02

Before buying this wonderful CD, I had read that Lennie Tristano was an under-appreciated musical genius. After buying it, I understand that he was a genius and needs to be listened to by more people. I can't believe that Tristano was making music like this in the late '40s. It is complex, but beautiful. The song "Yesterdays" is a flowing melody between piano and guitar that is one of the prettiest pieces of music I have ever heard. I sincerely hope that more music enthusiasts will introduce themselves to Lennie Tristano.

By the way, the Warne Marsh tracks are almost as beautiful. Buy this music!!!

5 out of 5 stars Funk on the backburner.......2001-02-10

Joey Baron, one of the most in-demand drummers around, assembles an band of major weight: Arthur Blythe on alto sax, bassist Ron Carter, and guitarist extraordinaire Bill Frisell. The songs, all written by Baron, are mostly either laidback struttin'-it grooves or haunting ballads - quite a contrast. On the struttin' numbers Frisell riffs along, working that one chord for all it's worth until it's time to let loose with a twangy guitar solo. Carter locks in with Baron's drums on the funky numbers and gets suitably mellow on the ballads; on the swinging "Crock Pot" he does some serious walking. Blythe, who is always good, sounds plaintive on the ballads; when it's time to play over the funk he riffs without falling into cliches. Half rent party, half winding-down, "Down Home" is a new type of R&B recording. The same band also contributes to Baron's "We'll Soon Find Out".

    5 out of 5 stars Funky...groovaholic...oh..baby!!!.......1999-08-26

How to have the most fun in the world. The instruction are inside. I certainly agree with all the others posting before me. This CD is a must. "What" takes the cake though. It's the most exciting one chord vamp tune I've ever heard ... funk and syncopation never sounded better!

5 out of 5 stars Stuff so funky you can smell it a mile away..........1999-08-07

Baron has put together an incredible group of improvisors and groovaholics. This CD shows what Acid Jazz should have been, and what it can become. Years ahead of his time, Joey Baron quickly gives you a fun beat to play with, then takes it away and plays with it himself. He dances rings around claves and leaves 4/4 in the dust, only to return to a groove so funky it makes you stand up and clap your hands. One of the best groove CDs ever made, one that is a MUST for anyone that likes groove, acid, or even just jazz. If you don't believe me, just listen to Little Boy and Mighty Fine, you'll catch on.

    5 out of 5 stars How Refreshing!.......1999-05-27

Joey Baron has written and produced a purely refreshing piece of work. While it's elegant in its simplicity, I defy most listeners to count tempo in "What". I still can't find the first beat of the bar. All four musicians are legendary in their own right but there is no showing off here. Truely a CD where less is more . . . so much more.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful CD - Jazz lives!.......1999-04-26

Joey Baron has made a fantastic CD featuring Bill Frisell, Ron Carter, and Arthur Blythe. Bill Frisell fans especially will love his work on this disc, as it contains several of those uniquely strange yet beautiful Frisell melodies and heads and some of his smoothest playing. There is a definate funky overtone to this Jazz CD. If you love bands like Medeski, Martin & Wood or any of Frisell's recent albums, you should definately check this out.

    5 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful.......2006-11-21

This is one of the best duo or otherwise albums in a acoustic jazz format that you could listen to period. Making this record was supposedly a dream of Bill's since Eddie Gomez joined the trio. At this time the current drummer Marty Morell had left the trio and instead of filling his spot, Bill chose to work as a duo and to make this record. There is a mixture of well known standards some originals and some lesser known tunes. The album opens with the classic Kaper song Invitation and it is a classic with threads of Chopin given the classic rhapsidic threatment. Two of my all time favorites are Track 4 The Nature of Things and track 6 A face without a name, written by Claus Ogerman who collaborated with Evans on another killer album Symbiosis. I think that A Face without a name is one of the best things that Bill has ever recorded. Eddie Gomez plays impecablly throughout, check out track 5 for killer Eddie. Also worth note is the last track Hi Li Hi Lo dedicated here to Evans late girlfriend Ellaine who had committed suicide a year earlier. Overall this album is one of the best and is in my opinon overlooked. If your a fan of killer music buy this disc now. Also check out Montreaux three which is also a duo.

4 out of 5 stars You Must Listen to Hi Lili Hi Lo.......2005-07-18

This Bill Evans release has received less exposure than some of his earlier material on Riverside and Verve, partially due to the sheer number of titles the artist cut during this period of his career (early 1970's). Most of the titles Evans made for Fantasy are of very high calibre musically, due to the production talents of his then manager, the late Helen Keane, and this release is no exception to that fact. Evans was, not surprisingly, an inveterate musical perfectionist and his dissatisfaction with some of his recordings 1ed the record company (Fantasy) to release albums with little promotion or fanfare. What is most significant about this release is that it was Bill's first studio duo outing with the great bassist Eddie Gomez, who was probably the finest accompanist who ever played with him (with a salute to Scott Lafaro of course). Eddie was also Bill's longest-standing musical partner (10 years) over the course of the artist's 25-plus years career. Some purists may not care for several titles on this release where Evans plays electric piano but at this time (1974) the Fender Rhodes was at the height of its popularity, championed by Joe Zawinal from Cannonball Adderley's tremendously successful outfit. The single outstanding title from the Intuition release is the haunting melody Hi Lili Hi Lo, penned by Hollywood film score writer Bronislaw Kaper. There are few songs in the history of modern popular music with such overwhelming beauty as this number (played on acoustic piano by Evans). Evans played it just once in the studio and this is it. Buy this release for this song. You will never forget it.

    5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking!.......2005-01-10

Among the Fantasy recordings, this and "I Will Say Goodbye" are the two best albums/CDs, in my opinion. But it's not really an inter-play filled duo album one might expect if Bill and Scott La Faro ever recorded a drums-less album together.
The absence of drums better features Bill's piano playing a lot more than a usual trio format, while Eddie's bass remains aside most of the time. My favorite tunes are "A Face Without A Name" and "Falling Grace." Both of them are breathtaking and I seem to get back to those tunes whenever I play this CD.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW!!!.......2006-09-10

Wow! This CD is amazing; real soul music. I got the CD because I loved the song that was showcased on Putamayo's World Blues CD. I listen to a lot of world music and The Unseen Guest is the best of East meets West that I have seen around in a long time. The combination of blues guitar and Indian instruments fits so nicely that it brings you to a place that you haven't had the pleasure to visit before. The lyrics are mysterious and haunting at times. There is a true sense of other worldiness in this music. It is refreshing and new and we are lucky to have such talented and innovative artists out there to bring us this truly unique sound. A vey special CD!

5 out of 5 stars It grows on you, quite like how .......2005-11-17

The afore mentioned affable 4-headed andavan 'Brahma' recommended the band and music.
For once someone has pulled of the 'East meets West' credo! Declan's voice rocks. Kinda like Eddie Vedder after some 'Californian Purple haze'.(which is a good thing). Amith's acoustics sound 'rich'. "Let me in" is a rendition of a genre that would have toasted Dave Mathews chilling with Dr. Balasubramanian.

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a tangent to their otherwise boring lifestyles involving nothing but routine S&M (oh wait that might just be me..)

My personal rating is a 4.9 out of 5. Only because you didnt have Miles Davis on.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent debut effort from this eclectic duo.......2005-11-15

Amith and Declan have just embarked on putting their music out for people to hear, albeit they've been musicians for long. I could go really verbose talking about their music, but that exercise would seem a little pointless considering [...] This is the kind of music that grows on you. Excellent piece of work!! Higly recommended!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Acoustic delight!!!!.......2002-08-02

It's amazing what kind of perfect alchemy these three musicians can create with "simple" instruments .... such as percussions, double bass and an acoustic guitar. Be prepared, the music contained in this album has extraordinary deepness, complexity, armony, balance. Ok moneys are important fame is important, but why the hell Kevin Eubanks doesn't dedicate himself completely to serious music (as the one presented here)? My God, he could be remembered as one of the 3/4 more talented guitarist in the jazz history!! Hope he will record more in the future!! No words for Holland and Cinelu. How can you describe perfection?

5 out of 5 stars An Astonishing Album.......2001-10-09

This is one of the best -- and most under-noticed -- releases of the last five years. Eubanks, Cinelu, and the sublime Dave Holland achieve Vulcan mind-meld status as an ensemble on this spirited, swinging collection of acoustic guitar, bass, and percussion grooves. If you're a fan of albums like Tim Sparks' luminous "Tanz" on the Tzaddik label, you must get this. If you're a Holland enthusiast, you will supremely dig Holland's super-muscular virtuosity here. If you know nothing about Eubanks other than his "Tonight Show" gig (I mean, whatever), prepare to be astounded by his fine taste, depth, and fluid imagination.

    This is a superb record!

    5 out of 5 stars Artistically Phenominal.......1998-11-04

After first listening to this on a bootleg tape in early 1998, I new I had to find it on CD and add it to my collection! World Trio (with Kevin Eubanks from the tonight show) along with Holland and Cinelu put together an amazing collection of very spiritual and soothing music. I enjoy putting it on while reading a book, taking a nap, doing yoga, or driving in traffic. It is very intense, but relaxing. You can really appreciate what these 3 artists can do! Enjoy!

Guy Klucevsek (United States), Maria Kalaniemi (Finland), Bratko Bibic (Slovenia), Lars Hollmer (Sweden), and Otto Lechner (Austria) all come from different nations, different backgrounds, and indeed, very different genres of music. Klucevsek is the "downtowner" of the bunch, with ties to the Knitting Factory new music scene. Kalaniemi has grown from folk revivalist into a sharp composer of romantic music. Bibic brings a raw, folk-rooted energy. Hollmer is a self-trained musician with no boundaries, no genre, and a dazzling array of ideas. Lechner offers a dark European neo-classicism. What's the common thread? They all play and compose for the accordion, and this set of live recordings during a three week European tour exemplifies the brilliant intensity that can develop between kindred spirits with diverse inspiration. In pieces that range from gentle solos to chaotic quintets, they all use each other's strengths to give their compositions new angles, strange twists, and a little humor. --Louis Gibson

    5 out of 5 stars Interesting Collection.......2000-10-11

This is quite an interesting collection. I had to listen to it a few times before I started to appreciate the musicianship and talent involved. These folks have a sense of humor too as displayed by "Mad Cow". "accordion tribe" would definitely push the musical envelope for the casual listener. If you have an open mind/ear than certainly purchase this CD, you will come to appreciate it with a couple of listens. I did.

    1 out of 5 stars Accordian Tribe.......2000-09-07

A friend once joked to me that the music in heaven is played on a harp, while music in hell is played on an accordian. At the time, I was offended because I've enjoyed accordian music since my childhood. After hearing this CD, I must agree with my friend. I consider listening to it a second time much worse than a trip to hades. I can't give it away for fear of losing a friend, and it lacks the aerodynamic qualities of a Frisbee. Perhaps I could send it to the earlier reviewer as a replacement for his CD after he wears it out from repeated playing?

5 out of 5 stars Try it, you'll like it!.......2000-05-31

Not just for accordion aficionados, Accordion Tribe is filled with inventive, joyful music...composed and performed by virtuosos who obviously had a great time playing together. Although they appear to push the sonic limits of the instrument, musicality isn't sacrificed for effect.

If you're an accordion fan, you're missing out if you haven't listened to Accordion Tribe. If you think the accordion is only for playing polkas, you're in for a most enjoyable ear-opener.

    3 out of 5 stars Intuition.......2006-01-09

Angela Bofill is one of the singers whose georgeous voice shines through even though I find this disc a little too producer driven and on some songs, that seems to shadow her voice.

Although as a whole, this is not one of my favorite Angela Bofill albums, I do have a few favorite songs: DOWN THE LINE, FOR YOU & I, EVERLASTING LOVE, LOVE IS IN YOUR EYES & a great remake, I JUST WANNA STOP.

Overall, it is a good disc for her fans to add to their collection but to the uninitiated, I'd recommend sticking to her earlier releases to get a better sense of this magnificent woman's talent.

    5 out of 5 stars A Smash In The Heart Of A Love's Nest.......2004-06-10

Angela's Capitol debut "Intuition" is a smash. I found my copy from my fiance's aunt. She told me to keep it so I did! I was looking for 16 years for this and I can honestly say it's a great album. I cannot stop playing this cd! "In Your Lover's Eyes" is my favorite song out of the entire cd! Reason why I love this cd is due to the background singers that she employed.
She worked with Karyn White (Superwoman fame), Sharon Bryant
(Atlantic Starr fame), Tramaine Hawkins (gospel great), and
Linda Clifford (Runaway Love fame), just to name you a few and I was hooked on the scatting sequence. Very sensusal. This is a must have. It should had recieved better promotion and more air play, but once you get this, you will be hooked! Grade:A+++

5 out of 5 stars This Could Have Been Angela's Pinnacle for the 80's.......2004-04-12

This is a Bofill title that has been out of circulation for years. Fortunately, I found my copy at a used cd shop for an awesome bargain price.

Angela Bofill, born of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, she has never been an R & B singer to really fit or be simply categorized in just that genre (particularly if any of you have heard her first 2 albums from the late 70's). Her early efforts were more GRP light jazz and at times expressed theatrical like production numbers on her early material. She has done background vocal works for numerous artists over the years. But once you hear this songbird's own upfront solo work you will become hooked !

Intuition showcases Angela in the late 80's in a very studio and sophisticated polished production-like atmoshpere or surroundings. It was probably one of the last true female soul/R&B albums before the rage of rap and hip-hop, etc. would dominate the airwaves. I almost want to say that this album is on par with Vanessa Williams debut the Right Stuff at about the same time with it's slick production numbers and captivating ballads. However, where William's album was marketed a lot better and got serious music video airplay, Bofill's was purely on the R&B radio stations rotational play list and word of mouth status. It didn't get the recognition it so deserved.

The opening track Love Is In Your Eyes is a pure and sassy soulful confection induced uplifting ballad about romance at it's best ! The title track,Intuition, is where the listener can see the typical funky dance hooks of the late 80's but can still manage to capture attention. The rest of the album is pure magic with each track that merits a sure listen whether for toe tapping or a good midnight listen !!!

4 out of 5 stars A very fine album that deserved better........2003-07-03

Like Jean Carne's long-deleted "You're A Part Of Me" (1988), this album got almost no radio airplay and did not do even remotely as well saleswise as it could have done. The lush and beautiful Quiet Storm ballads "Special Lover", "Love Is In Your Eyes", "I Just Wanna Stop", "Everlasting Love" and "Fragile, Handle With Care" would have been right at home on any of Angela's first four albums. If you can find them, I wholeheartedly recommend your buying both this CD and the above-mentioned Jean Carne CD-- both are excellent examples of Quiet Storm balladry at its smoothest and finest.
