Customer Reviews:
great!.......2007-05-12
After the lucky Jailbreak album, this Johnny the fox is full of great song, like the title track, don't believe a word, massacre.
another lizzy milestone.......2006-12-12
Another highlight from their best period, which covers the Gorham-Robertson era.
Johnny the Fox has increased the capacity of Thin Lizzy to make good songs, with a more mature sound quality, and compositions are less raw hard rock riffs and goes more into a solid rock album.
Released in the same year as it's precedure "Jailbreak", 1976, "Johnny the Fox" shows a development of the ideas from this line-up, the band was trying to reach the mainstream.
Once again, the guitar duo makes things work a lot, creating unique riffs to support Phil's chronicles. And let's not forget Downey's work on drums, he's in great shape and has developed a great trademark since "jailbreak".
Although when I come to listen to Thin Lizzy, I am not really looking for ballads, maybe that's why I prefer "Jailbreak" than Johnny the Fox"; however it's undeniable the good sense of melody put in this record.
Great, great classics for hard rock fans are here: Johnny (it's alright to lose your heart, but never lose your head), Rocky, Don' t believe a word, Fool's gold (wow!, that's great), Johnny the Fox (funky!!!). Enough to become a standard classic.
Maybe Thin Lizzy will never reach a massive cult, even because I think that it's not the band to listen when you are looking for heavy stuff pushing the stereos to the limit, Thin Lizzy may sound even "light" and pretty dated for radical ears, that's a huge mistake. We should look at this band (or listen) as four very talented rock musicians playing pure basic hard rock music, simple as that.
One of Lizzy's Best.......2005-10-21
Man, what can be said about this band? One of the most overlooked of the "classic" rock bands, their name is rarely mentioned in the same sentence as Led Zep, the Stones, or the Who, but they surely deserve a place among the upper echelons of the genre. This album is one of the reasons why: the songs are top notch, the playing is tight and inspired, and the vocals courtesy of Phil Lynott are just breathtaking. Sort of an underworld "concept" LP (IMHO), the album just flows very naturally. Highlights include the hard rocking opener "Johnny", the funky "Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed", the 70's metal mania of "Boogie Woogie Dance", and the soulful "Borderline" (one reviewer remarked that it was a great drinking song, I agree). But my all time fave on the record is the ballad "Sweet Marie". This song should be a staple on classic rock stations, but unfortunately US radio stations never gave it play. It is simply put one of the most beautiful rock songs ever recorded, and if it were the only song on the CD, it would still be worth it. If you like classic rock, then just buy this, and enjoy.
Classic Rock Album Ignored!.......2005-07-20
Thin Lizzy made classic rock albums and radio and critics
ingored them in America. They were big everywhere else in
the world! This album proves they were just as good if not
better than the so called greatest rock n' roll bands that
are still played on radio. This album is one of the greatest
rock albums every made and Thin Lizzy is the greatest band
in rock history as far as I'm concerned. If you don't have
this Lizzy album or any buy it and them and hear what real
rock music is suppose to sound like! Johnny the Fox is a classic.
Upgrade, The Sound Is Fantastic..........2005-05-03
The music on this album is 5 stars, no argument. This review is mainly for Thin Lizzy fans debating on whether to purchase this "remastered" import.....DO IT! From the very first track, "Johnny", I was flat out blown away by the improvement in the sound compared to previous releases (the sweep of Brian Downey's drum fills on "Johnny" from the right to left channel are right in your face and super clean....I knew right then this was going to be a fantastic listen). So if you still have this album on vinyl or are thinking about upgrading from your current cd version, add to cart now. You will not regret this purchase, I guarantee it. Lastly, look int zShops, you can get this album at a really, really fair price.

"top film scores of the 1960's ~ Percy Faith".......2004-02-18
If you are a collector of Percy Faith, you must run out to your local music store and pick this one up ~ "Plays The Academy Award Winner Born Free and Other Great Movie Themes" (originally released on Columbia Records CS 9450 in 1967) and "Windmills of Your Mind" (originally released on Columbia Records CS 9835 in 1969) ~ following the formula of previous Columbia Records releases featuring Faith's classic style of sweeping strings and haunting arrangements, they've come up with two more winners.
Master of arranging, Faith's formula is so natural in keeping the arrangements fresh and new with his distinctive style ~ his tasteful treatment always highlights the quality of the composition ~ ultimately making them a hit all over again. Remember the days when you could turn on the radio and hear Percy Faith with many familiar pop standards ~ when you put this compact disc on your player, get ready for the "Percy Faith Touch" sprinkled with pure magic over the orchestration and leaves you simply in that unforgettable mood.
Top performances inclusive for the twenty two tracks of film score themes ~ "A MAN AND A WOMAN" (Barouh/Lai), "A TIME FOR LOVE" (Webster/Mandel), "ALFIE"(David/Bacharach), "AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME" (Lionel Bart), "BORN FREE"(John Barry), "CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG" (Richard M. Sherman/Robert B. Sherman), "ELVIRA'S THEME" (Percy Faith), "FOR LOVE OF IVY" (Russell/Quincy Jones), "THEME FROM "THE FOX" (Lalo Schlfrin), "FUNNY GIRL" (Merrill/Styne), "GEORGY GIRL"(Dale/Springfield), "THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER" (Peggy Lee/David Grusin), "HOW ARE THINGS IN GLOCCA MORRA?"(Harburg/Lane), "THE LION IN THE WINTER"(John Barry), "SONG FROM "THE OSCAR" (Evans/Livingston/Percy Faith), "THEME FROM "THE SAND PEPPLES" (Bricusse/Goldsmith), "SOMEWHERE MY LOVE(Lara's Theme from "Dr. Zhivago")"(Webster/Jarre), "STAR" (Cahn/Van Heusen), "THIS IS MY SONG" (Charles Chaplin), "THIS HOTEL" (Keating/Quine), "THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND" and "THE WISHING DOLL" (David/Bernstein) ~ notice two of the selections were composed by the man himself Percy Faith! Impressive line up of top movie songs that will surely satisfy the appetite of all "film-score-buffs" and Percy Faith fans...gotta love it!
Total Time: 63:41 on 22 Tracks ~ Collectables 7428 ~ (2/19/2002)
Born Free/Windmills of your mind.......2002-03-02
Another perfect reissiue by collectibles music,This album contains themes from movies. Most of these songs have been unavailable by Faith since Lps went out. This album contains such songs as somewhere my love, this hotel,And we were lovers,This is my song,Alfie,How are things in Glacca Morra and many more. All of these songs are beautifully done Faith style. The album empasizes just his orchestra.Their's no chrous here. The original liner notes to born free are included in the bookelet as well as pictures of Faith probebly from born free under the clear cd holder. The liner notes to Windmills of your mind are not included. If your a collector of Percy Faith's music you have to get this cd since many of these songs are on cd for the first time.

Product Description
Original folk-rock tunes feature a simple organic combination of vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin, bass and drum kit (brush style).------------- TRACKS: 1 Half Time
2 Modern Waste
3 There & Back Again
4 Fear The Night Shift
5 E.63rd Street Blues
6 Outcome Obvious
7 Lords of Long Island
------------- Today, Cuomo's musical style has flourished into one that has fused modern folk rock with an innovative Irish twist. If a comparison is necessary, imagine David Gray singing a Bob Dylan tune. Being the consummate musician that he is, Cuomo is not the type of entertainer that will stand in front of a microphone strumming out aimless chords on an acoustic guitar.
He constantly aims to dazzle by showing off his other musical exploits. For instance, Cuomo plays bass guitar, harmonica, tenor banjo, Irish flute, and mandolin. Pretty impressive, to say the least. With percussionist Jerry Arias keeping the beat, There and Back Again artfully showcases Cuomo's diverse influences and talents, providing listeners with a ground-breakingly unique musical experience.
The disc opens with he enchanting track "Half Time." The initial parade of drums eases the listener into a moody guitar that establishes an aquatic, sea-faring feel. The melody is addictive in its impressive blending of high and low tones, foreshadowing an artist who plays beyond his years. The title track, "There and Back Again," is the only one of its kind on the album, offering a more hardcore taste of traditional cheery Irish beats. It truly makes one wish Michael Flatley would jump out and do an Irish step dance to it.
