Slick Sleaze Rock.......2007-05-07

Released in 1989, Psycho Café was the debut studio album by Bang Tango, a late arrival to the L.A. hair metal scene. Bang Tango straddled the line between Poison's pop sensibilities and the Faster Pussycat/L.A. Guns sleaze rock sound. The result was an album of sleaze rock anthems that had the slick, polished production of an AOR release. Vocalist Joe Leste does his best Cinderella/Britny Fox impression, screaming his way through the entire album, and guitarist Mark Knight displays a lot more ability than you might expect from this kind of music.

Psycho Café has some good moments (Someone Like You, Breaking Up a Heart of Stone) and some bad (Love Injection), but overall it's a fun hard rock album from a fun hard rock scene. The band would refine their sound considerably for their follow-up album, 1991's Dancin' on Coals, but Psycho Café is still well worth checking out if you're a fan of the whole "hair metal" era (and you can find it).

Buy this record for the guitar and bass work. Dueling solos and slap bass. The guys in this band were incredible musicians.

I think you guys are being a little to harsh. There is more than one good song on this album. There are two. "Breaking Up a Heart of Stone" is also a strong cut - almost enough to make me break down and buy this disc. Just almost...

I remember the first time I saw the video for "Someone Like You" on MTV. I had to run out and go buy the album. I was 11 at the time so that was no easy feat since I lived in Iowa and Bang Tango was not exactly at the top of the hair band heap. However, they were hands down my favorite band and I have probably listened to Psycho Cafe more than any other album I have ever owned. Joe Leste was, in my opinion, the best screamer of the 80's (possibly only tied with Sebastian Bach) and I remember being completely disappointed by Dancing On Coals because it wasn't Psycho Cafe II. I like it better now, but this album will always remain of my favorites of all time. I only wish I was old enough at the time to go to a concert or something. Sorry that this isn't as much a review as it a remebrance...but you should check this out.

One great song..........2003-08-28

But the rest is AWFUL. It's a good thing that they released Someone Like You as a single because it is one of the best hair-metal songs ever committed to a CD. Unfortunately, the rest of the CD serves only to make a good frisbee. Someone like You is worth 2 stars in itself, and the rest of the CD adds nothing. Find the single on a compilation disc (or download if you are willing to brave the RIAA) and avoid this album like the plague.

Not what I expected.......2000-09-30

This compilation does not contain titles of real hit movies. It contains mostly sentimental or comic songs from old movies and even from the ones I managed to recognise only a handful were original. It struck me hard to find "Enae Volare" from "Les Visiteurs", the only title I ordered this compilation for, terribly altered but that might concern me alone. Finding "What a Feeling" from "Flashdance" similarly altered made me wonder... later, on the back of the box, I found a small note saying, as I could decrypt from French, that the songs in the album were not necessary original. I should've been warned about this in advance!
