5 out of 5 stars I so LOVE this band..........2007-05-23

One of the first of the 80s Non-Glam, Glam - LA scene bands. Taime Downe, Greg Steele and the guys are straight on rock... As one of my best friends says -- 'it sounds like Aerosmith and AC/DC had a baby and raised it on 50's music'... Just a grand party from beginning to end...

One of my favorites from back in the day -- and important enough to me to warrant buying yet another copy!!!

4 out of 5 stars Faster Pussycat = Whole lotta fun!!.......2006-02-25

A fun type music cd that came to us in the later part of the 80's. Taime Downe's vocals were very unique at the time. This cd is just fun barroom rock. Songs of interest include, Don't Change That Song, Bathroom Wall, Babylon, Smash Alley, & Bottle In Front Of Me. Purchase it, you won't regret it!!

5 out of 5 stars Faster Pussycats the best.......2006-02-05

see i listen to all 80's hair metal. and i wuz really into Guns N Roses, and L.A. Guns and stuff like that but i wanted something different. something raw and original that may not be all that popular but i wanted a band that i could in a way call it my own u kno. so i herd Don't Change That Song, and thought it wuz soooo good!!!!! then i listen to Bathroom wall, Poison Ivy, House of Pain, after these hits i knew this is what ive been lookin for. then i got this album for Christmas. i jus bout listen to it everyday. see people say o they wer the suckiest band in the 80's but they are wrong but its ok cuz i dont care cuz i knew they wer great and they always will be. jus dont understand y they wernt so popular cuz they had everything Greg Steel, and Brent Muscat were on the way to Slash's path. and the Singer so Original, Axl Rose has one of the best voices but he can sound like a chick and that screech can get a lil anoying in sum songs. but this guy has that voice that sounds more like a man tho. Faster Pussycat will remain in my book forever.

5 out of 5 stars You'd better be ready for this!.......2004-10-23

A sure-fire 5-star disk! I have always said, when asked, that the best album released since I was a high school graduate in 1985, is Appetite For Destruction, by Gn'R. However, I have always said that Appetite for Destruction's huge success, kept Faster Pussycat's BRILLIANT debut from achieving it's due.

Both albums were released around the same time. At that time, FP's album was getting much more publicity. But then "Sweet Child o' Mine" took off, and the Pussycats' album got buried.

It is a SOLID 5 star album! It is L.A. sleaze-metal-rock at it's best. You have the classics, in "Don't Change That Song" and "Bathroom Wall", as well as "Cathouse". But the whole Stones-meets-metal sound continues on solid tunes like "No Room For Emotion" and "City Has No Heart".

Frankly there is NO bad song on this whole disk! "Babylon", Shooting You Down" and "Bottle In Front Of Me" are good.

"City has No Heart " and "Ship Rolls In" are strong rockers that make this album much more than a "trash metal" album. It is a classic metal album!

3 out of 5 stars Not A Bad Effort.......2004-07-14

Even tho' their sophomore CD, 'Wake Me When It's Over', is better, this is a pretty good first effort. It sounds a little defferent than most of their hair band contemporaries, which can be good, cause sounding too much a like another band is just not too good. The songs are fun, catchy 80's style hard rockers, and they are better than some of the other lesser-known hair bands from the late 80's like Danger Danger or Shark Island.

3 out of 5 stars The One That Has You're So Vain.......2007-07-16

I agree with those that have said the only reason for a FP fan to really want this is for the song "You're So Vain", I'm really surprised it's so low in price, I am tempted to pay the 7 bucks for one song, but I have all 3 of thier studio Cd's, and for that one song seems strange.

Perhaps in the future a better collection of songs also, why "Bottle In Front Of Me" is on here I don't know, and only 10 songs it's a poor representation of the band. They might as well put out an essential 2 CD set and put "You're so Vain" at the end. Leave off 3 or 4 songs from "Whipped", and leave off maybe 1 or 2 from each of the first 2 CD's and there you have it.

This one is lacking, even for a band that only put out 3 CD's of studio material.

5 out of 5 stars i dont own this but.............2006-07-05

first of all i love the 80s the soft rock the heavy metal even some pop songs.and since being an 80s freak i totalyy love all the types of ballads put out at the time, and thats where FP comes in "I think and im pretty sure that the best ballad and song of all times is in fact without a doubt the amazing teary eyed ballad """""HOUSE OF PAIN"""""" and for the rest of the songs i have yet to find out.But this is a perfect ex. of a cd anyone should buy just for that perfect song.So please buy it at least just to hear a wonderful moment in the history of MUSIC.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent finisher to your Faster Pussycat catalog.......2006-03-11

It was with much surprise that I came across a "Greatest Hits" cd for Faster Pussycat, at random, in a department store a few years ago. Given their short recording career, they weren't one of the likely bands to get such a treatment. I was even more amazed to notice the hard-to-find Carly Simon cover 'You're So Vain'. I immediately bought it and haven't regretted it one bit.

The track listing on "Greatest Hits" includes a mix of songs (hits and non-singles) from the three studio albums released by Faster Pussycat between 1987-1992. The versions here are the original studio cuts, not cheap rerecorded versions or live cuts. Four of the tracks can be found on the 1987 self-titled debut, which include 'Cathouse', 'Don't change that song', 'Bathroom Wall' and 'Bottle in front of me.' While some may lament that tunes such as 'Shooting you down' and 'Babylon' were left off, keep in mind that only ten cuts are featured altogether. It is also worth noting that the self-titled Faster Pussycat effort is an album that contained no real filler, so pretty much anything would have fit on here.

The best-selling Faster Pussycat album, "Wake Me When It's Over" is also represented by four cuts. These are 'Poison Ivy', 'Slip of the tongue', 'Where there's a whip, there's a way' and 'House of Pain.' Again, there is little to be upset about regarding the track selection on this album. One more cut, 'Nonstop to nowhere', was the single from the 1992 release, "Whipped." "Whipped" was the final release by Faster Pussycat and the band went their separate ways after the commercial failure of this third studio album from the group. They did eventually reunite, which may have something to do with this album existing in the first place.

'You're So Vain' was a cover song performed by Faster Pussycat during the early 1990's. Until now, it was only able to be located on a various artists compilation album and also a limited edition ep from the band. The cover is very well done and worth the price of purchase alone, considering the low price of this greatest hits collection. A lot of fans have long demanded this song, making it a Faster Pussycat cult classic.

The negatives are that there are only ten song selections here and plenty of cuts could have easily made it onto this album. For some reason, the profanity in 'Slip of the tongue' is slickly edited out. This is the type of thing you'd see on a clean edit of a popular album. Really, it poses no problem for most people. If it matters all that much, it is easy enough to find the source album ("Wake Me When It's Over") that the tune comes from. There are no other songs edited in this fashion, so this is the only cut that doesn't appear in its original form. All ten of the tracks here do appear in full-length form, meaning they are not edited for running time. That is identical to the original albums, including 'Nonstop to nowhere' which runs close to seven minutes (a shorter radio single version of 'Nonstop' exists but thankfully that one was not used here).

Given the cost, there is no reason for a fan of Faster Pussycat to not pick this one up. This is the easiest way to locate 'You're So Vain' and it sure beats paying a hefty price for the 1992 ep it can be found on. The funny thing is that the 1987 debut, as a whole, is actually a little bit superior to this compilation. For that reason, this is one of those albums that should be purchased to finish the Faster Pussycat catalog, not start it. Most new fans looking into the band will want to start with the self-titled release, which introduced this underrated and underappreciated band to the world. That is just my opinion.

This "Greatest Hits" collection is not band approved, not that most of them are, but the liner notes and presentation on this one are both very respectable. The label that issued this collection has done similar compilations, of varying quality, for artists such as Foreigner, Twisted Sister, White Lion and Winger. Like this one, those come at the same low price and provide a good sampling of the catalog for each artist. You can't really go wrong here, not at all. Faster Pussycat "Greatest Hits" comes highly recommended. Perfect for the diehard, it is also the easiest way for the casual fan to obtain the one song that matters to most people, 'House of Pain.'

4 out of 5 stars Good Overview for Casual Fan.......2005-06-22

Yes, the song "Slip of the Tongue" has a slight edit (probably the radio version) but otherwise the songs seem untouched. While there are a few great tunes missing from their albums - most notably Babylon, Pulling Weeds, and No Room for Emotion - this is a fairly complete collection.

Where it is really a valuable collection is for the song "You're So Vain", as this is the only place I've been able to find this song. It was originally done for some kind of 25th anniversary CD in 1990 for their label, and I've been unable to locate that song or that CD anywhere for years. For that reason alone it's valuable for the Faster Pussycat fan, or anyone who enjoyed this genre.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2003-12-17

I have been purchasing albums that I had during my college days on cassette tape and replacing them with CD's. When I saw the Faster Pussycat Greatest Hits I couldn't wait to buy it. It claims to the "The Original Songs you remember by the Original Artists you love". Flashback Records is a division of Rhino and for some reason they released "CENSORED" songs on this cd. That is not the ORIGINALS as promised. There was no warning what so ever on the cd to claim it is CENSORED music. Do not buy this piece of crap!

5 out of 5 stars Faster Pussycat - Wake Me When Its Over.......2007-02-18

Terrific album, but it's much better live, and when you're friends with the band members!

3 out of 5 stars From the "Whatever happened to" file........2006-01-14

Yes, Faster Pussycat is one of those bands that will be remember as a one hit wonder with the ballad "House of Pain" which peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. They failed to match the success of Slaughter, Warrant, Firehouse, White Lion, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, AC/DC and Bad English.

This is from the "Whatever happened to" file.

5 out of 5 stars A Hollywood music milestone........2005-11-07

This CD belongs alongside the era's best, right up there with Appetite, Dr. Feelgood, and Hysteria.

A major improvement over the debut, every song is memorable. 'Tattoo' is my favorite! I saw F.P. on this tour and it was obvious that they wouldn't be around forever, but at least they put some great tunes down while they were.

5 out of 5 stars Only FP record worth buying, and it rocks.......2005-05-30

Late-`80s hair metal bands are a dime a dozen. As the trend reached its peak, labels signed furiously, systematically disregarding musical sincerity and talent.

Perhaps that's why this fantastic 1989 release slipped through the cracks. Though it was certified Gold and had a few hit singles, few remember it today.

Stylistically, "Wake Me When It's Over" sits somewhere between Poison and Guns N' Roses: glam enough to be somewhat cheesy at points, but hard-hitting enough to be taken seriously. They have toured with both bands.

The best track by far is the power ballad "House of Pain." It is a heartfelt song with lyrics about a deadbeat dad, so it doesn't feel as dated as most other `80s ballads ("Home Sweet Home," anyone?).

Though the rest of the record is overshadowed by "House of Pain," it is consistent and high-quality nonetheless. Much of the material revolves around the `80s-metal necessity of promiscuous sex, but others cover the topics of murder ("Cryin' Shame") and abortion ("Pullin' Weeds").

Standout tracks include the aggressive "Where There's a Whip There's a Way," the swaggering "Tattoo" and the love ballad "Please Dear."

Given the record sells used for about $5 nowadays, any fan of hair metal or blues-based hard rock will not be disappointed. It is one of `80s rock's best and most underrated moments.

Just wanted to say that although i am not a huge fan of Paul Oakenfold, he has me hooked on this song. And Brittany Murphy--who knew the damn girl could sing! She has a great voice, and, come to think of it, she kind of sounds like Esthero. Well, pick up the single only, the cd sucked, this is the only good song from it. Great sound, a lot of fun.

I am so amazed of the powerful voice that comes out of such a little person, her and Paul Oakenfold have done an amazing job. This single makes you want to dance and sing non stop!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Sleaze Rock at its Best.......2003-12-28

You might not be able to get a time machine to return to the Sunset Strip in the mid 80's, but you still can get the music from one of the more important bands that Hollywood produced during that era. The songs from "Whipped" represent the many of the unique signature traits the band is known for, along with the tongue-in-cheek humor nose snub to the conformists. This CD contains songs that hint at the slight incorporation of sleaze and industrial rock.

I had the opportunity to see them live on their 2003 tour. (Cleveland and Santa Ana) The Cleveland show was nothing short of amazing. They performed many songs off this disc, and did so with enough sleaze, and industrial steam train power to blast the rear wall out of the club.

As I stated earlier, this band was very under rated, and never really received the accolades they deserved. The singer, Taime Downe, has a style that is all his own, and is a perfect match for this music. But for people who know better, they can pick up this great disc and enjoy a glimpse of what the sleaze rock lifestyle was all about.

      5 out of 5 stars Great Cd.......2003-10-07

I bought this cd and i really liked it. Non-stop to nowhere is a really good song. Buy this cd!

I have been a Faster Pussycat fan since 1988, and this is the more Industrial side of Taime and Co. Its as if FPC and Al Jourgensen of Ministry had a brain child and produced one powerful punch re make of FPC songs! I frequently talk with Taime on Myspace and there's a new FPC Disc coming out this fall Titled "The power and the glory hole" and from what I heard, it RAWKS! Go to myspace, do a search for "Taime" and "Faster Pussycat" add e'm as a friend and check out the new tunes on the FPC page. Go get the Valley of the Ultra Pussy remix disc and RAWK OUT!
Remember, this fall...Faster Pussycat- The power and the glory hole" GET IT!!

      2 out of 5 stars Eh..........2004-03-18

I had no idea I was getting a remix album. Apparently, I missed the review as I bought it from this site. I was so excited to see what I thought was a Greatest Hits but as soon as I listened to it, I was like WTF. I hate remixes anyway and although, they sounded pretty cool, I have not listened to it since. I even gave it to my bf who normally loves remixes and he returned it to me saying it was awful. Thank goodness I didn't pay full price for it or I would have been pissed. I guess if you like remixes, buy it cuz they do sound really cool but if you are expecting old school FP, don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars Not Bad At All.......2003-09-24

Great album it may be a different sound but i definatly suggest you people go out and buy this cd its awesome!!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Creative Album!.......2003-09-02

Wow! I've been a Faster Pussycat fan since Wake Me When Its Over came out back when I was but 12 years old. At first, I didnt even get Valley of the Ultra Pussy 'cause I thought it was just another greatist hits cd and i had all of those songs. When I found out that it was a remix cd, I went out and got it, only to be completely amazed. This cd is absolutely awesome! Taime has gone back and remixed the best old Pussycat songs and literally breathed new live into great music. Its kind of a mix between glam, techno, electronic, with a bit of industrial and goth thrown into the mix. I know some people dont like this, but I am blown away by this album. I think its the best FP cd yet. I just love the new version of House of Pain, so much darker and much more haunting, really does the song justice to hear it from this new view.

      Taime, you are a genius!!

      1 out of 5 stars Um...Well..........2002-12-27

What can I say about this CD? Actually, I have a ton of things to say, but they don't allow words like that here. It's a shame that they don't negative ratings to choose from. I really like Faster Pussycat, and I THOUGHT I was buying a greatest hits CD...boy, was I wrong! Instead, what I got was a bunch of remixed songs, totally redone with synthesizers...even the voices were synthesized. In my opinion, these songs sound like a retarded robot is singing for a space-station dance club, and all the patrons need to be on a space drug to enjoy them. Remember KISS's "I Was Made For Loving You"? It already sounded like a dance tune, right? They even slaughtered this song! I only wish I had Real Player installed so I could have been able to hear samples from this CD. The ONLY positive thing on this CD is the unreleased demo "Blood." This song actually sounds like Faster Pussycat, and not some whacked-out space-alien punk/disco/dance/whatever that the rest of the songs sound like. If you want something different, then this CD is for you...if you're looking for their greatest hits CD (as I was), then DON'T buy this!

      4 out of 5 stars Not a remix album, a re-interpretation album.............2002-06-27

Yeah, It ain't old school FP, but it's still cool. I found it interesting to suddenly have new "versions" of the songs available, finding some of their older songs that I never liked or just couldn't really listen to anymore completely different and cool. I think it's worth a listen if you listen expecting something different.

And BTW.... other FP guys were involved in the making of this album, it was a complete Taime invention. It's been near 20 years.... I'd have HOPED they'd have all changed musically by now.

This is a great 4 song single. Both "Nonstop to Nowhere" and "You're So Vain" are classics from them. I really liked "Too Tight" and "Charge Me Up" and should have been released on Whipped!. A must have edition to go with Faster Pusseycat's "debut", "Wake Me When It's Over" and "Whipped!".
