So I got this blastin at the gas station, and a customer says "You like that New Orleans music?" Well I considered it to be Minnesota Rockabilly, but hey, whadda I know.

This ain't bad, but compared to "Hubba Hubba" this is a little tame.

It's rock AND roll and goes well with old cars and beer.

    Thats exactly what I bought this for. There's some pretty good improv in the CD. Forget the songs. Its the awesome improvising you're after. The track "howling" is what the CD could've been if he focussed on showcasing his skill without the cheesy backing tracks.

    "Howling" ranks up there with "Stratovarious" by Greg Howe in the instrumental solo music category.

    This CD is not for general consumption.

    Dubbing himself the world's only "metal violinist", classically-trained American Mark Wood blazes through 10 appropriately named, mostly instrumental tracks like "The Howling" and "Sledgehammer Hop" on his debut album Voodoo Violence. Wood's arsenal of custom-made electric violins (including a six and nine-string double-neck, and a Flying V) sounds much like a Star Trek phaser set to overload and on the verge of exploding. The high-pitched squeal can have an unearthly effect, full of feedback and vibrato but with the texture and range of a keyboard. Voodoo Violence will likely appeal most to fans of such guitarists as Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai who are open to trying something a little further left-field.

    I guess I'd lump this into the "Typical Hendrix Tribute Disc" bin. When I saw the list of musicians performing on it, I had really high hopes. A few of the songs approached my expectations but on average, I found too many of them to be lackluster and sort of generally uninspired. For example, I'd hoped for an incredible "I Don't Live Today" from Pat Travers and instead got a so-so reading. I liked Lukather's 3rd Stone and part of Larry Corylell's House Burning Down plus parts of a few others but overall, I just wasn't moved by the mix.
