5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Metal/Hardcore Releases.......2007-07-14

An Epic final album from IKTPQ. All 9 tracks are amazing, with brutal sounds complimented by tight production. It up there with Parkway Drive's ' Killing With A Smile '. I'll be waiting for their return with an open casket!

2 out of 5 stars I Killed the Prom Queen ~Music for the Recently Deceased~.......2007-05-20

As the first notes of ""Shakes in Your Mouth"" and ""Say Goodbye"" wrong through my speakers, there's one band that comes to mind immediately: As I Lay Dying. These guys are performing a style of Gothenburg hardcore made famous over here in the States by As I Lay Dying. In fact, it would be tough to say that there is much of anything separating the two bands save the few thousand miles between Australia and America.

Slow beatdown sections, fast paced Gothenburg riffs that sound eerily like In Flames/At The Gates b-sides and clean vocals that tie back to the aforementioned As I Lay Dying sum up what this band is about. It gets so bad that ""The Deepest Sleep"" sounds like it could be a cover of an As I Lay Dying song.

Skip it.

2 out of 5 stars Too Predictable.......2007-03-21

I seriously think it's about time we gave this metalcore craze a rest. Well, there are bands of that style who make themselves unique and get more respect, but for each one of those, we have about 20 generic Caliban/As I Lay Dying/KsE clones that do nothing new. This CD has what your average metalcore CD has: rehashed melodeath-inspired riffs, average screaming/clean singing vocals, and don't forget the breakdowns. Overall, this CD, while it's not unlistenable, is rather mediocre at best and represents well that the metalcore sponge cannot absorb any more. If you don't care about originality and like the styles of the bands I mentioned earlier, then you might like this. However, if you're looking for metalcore that's, well, not boring, go for Parkway Drive, Misery Signals, Heaven Shall Burn, All That Remains, and Unearth.

5 out of 5 stars radddd.......2007-03-09

this is such a rad cd..everythign is great about it..it sucks that Ed (lead vocals) left the band..but they are still great in my book

3 out of 5 stars Pretty boring.......2007-03-03

I Killed The Prom Queen (who hail from Australia, the same homeland as Parkway Drive, a metalcore band that caught America's attention earlier in the year) fill their songs with Swedish-influenced thrash riffs, busy blast beats, bludgeoning rhythms, hardcore-worthy breakdowns, violent lyrics (i.e. "Your Shirt Would Look Better With A Columbian Neck-Tie") aggressive, phlegm-filled bellows, and the occasional clean, sing-song-y refrains. You know what this means, don't you? They are a Johnny-come-lately if there ever was one. Even the band's name is faulty, and seems as if it were manufactured by the music industry with American teenagers as the target audience (see, in Australia they don't even know what "prom" is!)

For the record, though, I listened to "Music For The Recently Deceased" with an open mind. After all, I kind of dig Parkway Drive, and I've never been one to slam any heavy music album for no reason. But, simply put, IKTPQ do nothing - and I mean NOTHING - to turn the head of any casual modern-day metal fan. (The musicianship isn't overly technical, there are no guitar solos whatsoever, the lyrics aren't exactly thought provoking, etc.) Sure, there are some signs of greatness, and even a few flashes of innovation here and there: For example, I Killed The Prom Queen seem to have a larger awareness of death and black metal than most metalcore bands nowadays. But that in no way means that "Music For The Recently Deafened" is very (if at all) exciting, memorable, or offensive, and thus, it's impossible to get past the record's overpowering stench of being generic and mediocre.

And even if the metal/deathcore scene weren't completely glutted at the moment, "Music For The Recently Deafened" would still be heavily flawed. For one, there are no real brains to go along with the band's excessively amounts of brawn: The album tries desperately to beat the listener into a bloody pulp, but it all seems a bit pointless, mindless, and uninspired. There's no groove to latch onto, and there certainly aren't many memorable hooks, so nothing here will stick with you for more than a few, fleeting moments. Next, the album quickly becomes very predictable and monotonous, because every song plows along at the same speed. And there may be a lot of big, meaty riffs here, but upon close listen, it's clear that most of them are recycled from earlier songs (or even the same song!) Finally, the clean vocal refrains don't help I Killed The Prom Queen's cause, either, and they actually make the album even more annoying and formulaic. (It's almost as if I Killed The Prom Queen were afraid of being too heavy, so they tacked on a bit of crooning to the end of nearly every song in a desperate attempt to try to stay mainstream.)

IKTPQ are the poor man's deathcore band. "Music For The Recently Deafened" makes for a decent quick headbanging fix, and it might be an exciting and interesting listen if you've never heard a deathcore album before (in which case you'd have to have been living under a rock on Mars for the past five years). Otherwise, you'll find that this record doesn't amount to much more than average fare. Skip it.

4 out of 5 stars Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21

The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.

2 out of 5 stars Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15

As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2006-05-17

The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06

I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24

Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

Album Description

After two acclaimed albums Xasthur return with their Napalm/Moribund debut. Telepathic With the Deceased is isolated visionary Malefic's darkest jewel yet, culminating his clandestine efforts into an hour-long voyage deep within his distorted psyche. Spanning icy sojourns to decaying ambience to paralyzing funeral doom, Malefic brings his horrific visions to you. Beware! You may already be Telepathic...

"The black metal equivalent to a Sergio Leone epic masterpiece film! This album is not of this world..." Bruni/BW&BK

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Yeesh........2006-03-03

Psychedelic black metal. The black metal equivalent of shoegazer metal or rock: piles of distorted guitars burying a broken, pained voice. This makes My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club seem like happy, upbeat, toe-tapping fun. Which, coincidentally, most of it is.

This album is no fun. But it is spectacular, atmospheric, and adventurous. Remarkable stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Malefic's most experimental work.......2006-02-25

Telepathic with the Deceased was met with a lot of criticism when it was first released. Many people argue that this album was rushed along with its counterpart, To Violate the Oblivious, and that it wasn't as memorable as past releases. To be frank, I don't think there is anything wrong with putting out a lot of material. Malefic has a lot of time to record. He is not touring the country. He is sitting in his house in sunny California and harvesting the hatred inside of himself. What is so wrong with that? Ultimately, I think Malefic has improved as a producer. For one thing, this album seems to be pretty well produced (I guess, for Xasthur). It may not be quite as good as To Violate the Oblivious, but it sure is better than the muddy sound of The Funeral of Being. Of course, trve black metallers don't consider that kvlt enough... but it gives Xasthur a shimmering quality that would have been nonexistent otherwise...

Honestly, this is a good album. I can see why most black metal fans don't like it, though. It is actually less metal than Xasthur's past releases. Of course, it is still black metal, but this music is more experimental and leans more towards mood than anything else. This release truly shows the ability Malefic has to get some incredible sounding tones out of his guitar, too. And also, of course, the layering of the guitars themselves is phenomenal. Malefic deeply layers his music with harmonies/disharmonies, clean arpeggios, and fuzz. The results are truly bizarre and almost art rock sounding. It is definitely something you wouldn't expect from black metal...

This is better than most black metal. It stands out as something else rather than another Darkthrone rip off, which is good enough for me.

5 out of 5 stars .......2005-09-04

Xasthur's music isn't for everyone. Production values and accesible musical structures are thrown out the window in favor of primitive passages and ultra-depressive funeral dirges. Through chaos and perversity, a vision of nihilism and total annihilation for everything that stands for good is quite easily achieved. After a brief eerie intro, the carnage begins in the form of repetitive guitar interludes, and strained vocals. The drums and vocals might sound a little too buried in the background, but they only help the guitars spew their mournful laments up front over everything else, which is fitting seeing how this record mostly focuses on atmosphere. While there's some good partially fast tracks in here, I feel Xasthur are more lethal and effective at its slowest. It is when the sentiments of sorrow and grimness come across more predominantly. It is a pleasure to see that in thia age and day bands are still producing black metal of the highest caliber devoid of any outside influence or irrelevant progression. It doesn't really surprise me to see that Xasthur is quickly becoming a cult act of sorts within the black metal underground circles.

5 out of 5 stars Like cancer coming out of remission........2005-07-10

With this release, Lord Malefic certainly isn't pulling any punches. The cold, seething feeling that emanates out of this album is almost palpable. His ideology presents itself in the music as well as the pointed lyrics. Highly recommended for fans of Leviathan, Burzum, and Weakling. I picked it up for $9.00 on Ebay, but if you can't get it there or direct from Mordibund Cult, this isn't a bad place to start.

4 out of 5 stars Black Metal Motzart.......2005-05-12

I want to start off by saying that Malific is both
a genius and a pretentious @sshole.
Looking inside the CD I find that he dedicates this recording to
no one, and then he attacks so called black metal elitists.

Who comes off as an elistist more then him?
I find it laughable to see someone who revels in depression
as if it is a superiour state of existence then that of "normal"
people.

But as far as the music is concerned, Malific creates an evil
atmosphere of intense music that sounds like the soundtrack
of one who has just entered hell. His vocals, although not discernible, are definately evil, as he is buried in the mix, but in such a way that it contrributes to the overall sinister
production that makes this music work. I think he could be a great 21st century composer, but I'm afraid that he would find that if he had more then 100 fans then he would consider himself
a sell-out.

Did I say composer? What that shows about this music is that it is far superior to the old black metal, including Mayhem(who is far overated in my estimation, although this is more in line with old school black metal). Much of this material has an ambient quality, as other reviewers have pointed to. Much of it is mellow, but in dirge like sense. When I think of this CD, I think of death, darkness, sadness, hopelessness, etc. In other words it touches the soul, but my reaction to it is empowerment.

I hate the church, Christians, government, the media, etc. I am enslaved to no one, thereby I am free. That's what this music is to me. Malific has much potential and I look forward to hearing more by him. This is much recomended. My only complaint is that he should find a good drummer and then his recordings might be near perfect.

My favorite song is 'May Your Void Become As Deep as my Hate". The only problem being the cheap drum machine sound that detracts from the brilliance of it. May Malific repent of his wayward ways concerning the drums.

Praise be to the concept of Satan and "self". In the beginning man created God.

4 out of 5 stars Three & A Half Is What I Was Hopin' For.......2007-01-22

A solid slice of the genre at the time. Some nice samples and soundbites interspersed with the music. Really like the slow intros and how the song builds. No doubt of the talent of these guys-they can keep up a good pace. Very melodic at times, and at others fast and tight. Good flow throughout. They were young when they recorded this, but still seem sure of their direction. Vocalist has range and doesn't hold back. Guitars up front and accomplished. Only complaint is the very simplistic drumming. If you like downtuned and sludgy death madness, this may appeal. Lots of bands did this better though, but the price is worth it. What you'd expect from Grind Core label, no offense to Dead Youth. For fans of Broken Hope & Baphomet. Track 5 really showcases all the musicians talent in full-form. Catchy and haunting.

4 out of 5 stars This is some good old school death metal!.......2003-12-15

The thing I like about this album and group, is that the sound of the album is in the vaine of the classic old school death metal groups like Obituary, Morgoth etc. The album was released the year of 1992. The vocalist Ed Jackson has great range with his vocals. There are alot of great guitar riffs also. Accidental Suicide only released one album that I know of and it is "Deceased." This album isn't for everyone, but I still highly recommend this album. Give it a try if you like death metal. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. STAY BRUTAL!!!

4 out of 5 stars Reunion tour Please!.......2006-10-21

I spent my youth in college following them to 3 or 4 gigs one year. Too bad it seems Wednesday has a god complex and can't get along with anyone else. How the H@ll do all you reviews know of FDQ? They're from Landis NC?

5 out of 5 stars The Recently Deceased Will Rise Before Your Eyes.......2006-04-27

I bought this album and having heard Wednesday 13's solo band and Murde/rdolls before and I like this much better not only is Mu/rderdolls pretty much redos of Frankenstein Drag Queens but FDQ's overall style is much better and this album grows on you fast. Singing about the classic horror movies and all else related to ghouls, ghosts, or anything else you can expect out of the Halloween season. All of Wednesday's 13 Horror Glam Punk is Great but FDQ is truly more ugly, gruesome, and gory. Thank Wednesday anyone associated with his bands and people like you records for keeping alive what will hopefully become the next big genre of music.

4 out of 5 stars Ghoulishly Delightful... :-).......2005-07-20

This was a very good choice for me since I really like the Murderdolls, metal, horror flicks, and old school punk. The lyrics are really cheesy, but they are very catchy. This recording was a little bit better than the "6 Years, 6 Feet Under the Influence" which was re-recorded by Wednesday himself. This is a little bit harder, and more like the Murderdolls than that recording. This CD has original songs that the Murderdolls covered (Hooray for Horrorwood=Dead in Hollywood, etc). All in all, I enjoyed it very much...and I enjoy annoying my friends who don't like it. :-)

    Statement from Mr.13
Words from Wednesday 13: September 2002

    Official Statement: May 2002:

This was a decision I had to make due to the involvement with my other project, Murderdolls (featuring Joey Jordison of Slipknot and Tripp Eisen of Static-X). Things were presented and offered to me that were much better and appealing than my current situation with FDQ. In other words, an offer that I could not refuse. I had originally planned to carry on with FDQ, until I was offered lead vocal duties with the Murderdolls. Both bands were becoming so similar to each other that I had to make this decision. This decision was in no way based on conflicts between members within the band. U wanna thank everyone for their support over the years and I hope that you will continue your support with me and the Murderdolls. This site will continue as a memorial for FDQ. Any info on other projects of the current FDQ lineup will mentioned here as well as any other dirt that you need to know about. Thanks for 6 years of blood, guts, and screams. So as your Ghoulscout troop leader... I bid you farewell from Planet 13.

5 out of 5 stars A thrash band that deserve their respect........2004-10-15

Deceased is a band that plays thrash at its purest with originality and the passion that you can actullie feel it, making it look real and not poser or wannabe like, at all. For any one into straight thrash with passion and true sounds? I recommend.

    5 out of 5 stars Classic metal.......2002-09-14

Deceased can no longer be classified as a death metal band. Maybe they began their illustrious career as one, but now they just play straightforward, jarring heavy metal... and Supernatural Addiction is their best disc yet.

King Fowley's vocals sound better than they ever have, a vast improvement from the nonsensical gargle prominent on past releases. He takes a stand (or seat?) as a fine metal vocalist, powering excellent thrashy traditional based songs with gruff vocals. Those epic song structures showcased on Fearless Undead Machines are almost gone. SA consists of 8 concise metal anthems, with great melodic leads and catchy guitar work. Imagine a mix of Iron Maiden and mid 80s Kreator.

The Premonition is just a fine track, a true metal anthem, and my favorite along with the Doll With the Hideous Spirit and Elly's Dementia. As usual, the lyrical base is horror, and nobody does it better than the originals. Deceased truly rules, and this album proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

5 out of 5 stars Their best album yet!.......2002-02-10

I don't know how, but this album is their best release yet! I had always thought "Luck of the Corpse" was their best release, but I am pleased to say I was wrong! Every true metal fan should pay homage to King and co. for continuing to put out such fine material as this. So many great 80's influences here, from Voivod to Possessed to Kreator to Maiden, it's a true treat to listen to. Great solos, great song structure, and my man, King Fowley, leading the way. Definately worth the purchase!!!

5 out of 5 stars Does Metal get any truer than Deceased?.......2001-09-08

How King Fowley and Co. can continually outshine themselves album after album is a complete mystery to me. There are no ups & downs with this band; each progressing album is a new development and evolution in the sound and mythos of Deceased! Propelling beyond mere labels, Deceased can now only be categorized as Metal, for no sub-genre can contain the flamboyant nature of the band's evolution! With the escalating integration of classic Metal stimuli, the band honestly stands on its own and proudly displays its denim-clad heritage. Supernatural Addiction, the band's latest endeavor, openly exhibits King's adoration for the bizarre and unexplainable, as portrayed in retellings of familiar myths & legends of both the print world and film universe. Continuing the anthem-like songwriting style last heard on 1997's Fearless Undead Machines, Deceased propagates more spellbinding guitar harmonies while spinning yarns of ghosts, possessed dolls and other subjects that the human subconscious dare not relinquish! It is this quality that grants the album a book-like impression, for each song is the sonic translation of a pre-existing story. Leave it to Mr. Fowley to turn Man's fears and superstitions into Heavy Metal anthems! Upon completion of the album, I must pose one question, does Metal get any truer than Deceased?

    3 out of 5 stars not bad--somewhat derivative.......2000-08-26

The Iron Maiden influence is powerful here--not that that is a bad thing. However, it's amazing how a band in a homage of sorts to Edgar Poe can't even spell his name correctly--It's Edgar ALLAN Poe--not ALLEN!!!!!! Come on People.

Not a bad way to start an album: "It has been established that persons who have recently died have been returning to life and committing acts of murder." The line is from George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and it kicks off "The Silent Creature" from Deceased's Fearless Undead Machines. A screwball-concept project that revolves around the three Romero Dead films, the record is nearly as tastelessly entertaining as the shopping-mall murder-scene from Dawn of the Dead. And while the lyrics are regurgitated with typical death metal grace, songs like "From the Ground They Came" and "Night of the Deceased" are imbued with striking melodies reminiscent of Running Wild, Mercyful Fate, and even early Iron Maiden. --Jon Wiederhorn

    Album Details

Eleven piece concept album inspired by George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead trilogy. Producedby Jim Barnes (Mindrot, Morgion), this release contains complicated guitar arrangements & a sinister ambience for a true dark metal sound.

As a serious metal fan for more than a decade, I haven't had to turn many CDs in for a few bucks. However, this one didn't stay in my possession for even a week. Praised by people in chat rooms (maybe that was my first mistake), I bought this album expecting something unique. After all, the cover has a sticker with a note by Fowley that it's for metal fans, played by heavy metal fans, and that it's proudly dedicated to the genre's listeners. Big deal! With the exception of a meager handful of creative guitar riffs, the lyrical content is completely worn-out and the vocal delivery is cheap. The singer is trying to scream/yell and totally fails the attempt to sound scary. The sound quality is awful, and while pace changes are frequent and well-executed, they mostly hack the songs up into several sections with no resemblance to each other. In sum, while the musicianship is decent, the songwriting suffers horribly. Also, the band takes up two pages in the back of the booklet to put down bands like Fear Factory, RATM, and Pearl Jam, all of whom have repeatedly displayed far, far stronger musical ability and production work. Deceased needs to stop telling people to "f... off" and worry about getting their own act together. They've got a lot of work to do... if I could I would rate this album with less than one star, but that's the least I was allowed to give it...

5 out of 5 stars dude, this will wake the dead.......1998-07-02

I fell asleep once while listening to this CD and I dreamt I was on a spaceship jamming with these guys. I dont know how they manage to rock so hard when they play live but manage to smell so nice afterwards. Especially their drummer King Fowley, who emits a succulent strawberry-esque odor after playing. I hate to admit it, but this record kicks butt over my bad Weezer and Rentals albums.
