3 out of 5 stars Some old, some new..........2002-01-31

Made in JAP in 2001, Serial# COCP-31421, Playing Time 73:12

This LIVE album, recorded during the tour celebrating their "Spiritual Canoe" album, attemps to combine 2 completely different eras of the band: the early years (e.g. The Devil Soldier) as well as tracks from their latest effort... Tracks originally recorded by the group's other formations (i.e. without Niihara on vocals) are omitted from this album.

That's not really a bad thing, except that this is rather confusing musically: their earlier days (up to "Disillusion") were focusing on melodic but non-commercial metal (unlike, let's say, tracks like "Crazy Nights"). Their latest studio album saw somewhat of a resurgence in that direction, but the sounds here are very "modern", which doesn't lend itself very well to older material.

Unlike their "Eurobounds" live album, the performances here are unspectacular, uninspired, and simply dull in general.

I would suggest this only to the LOUDNESS completist; if you're a novice, grab "81-86" or "Live Loud Alive" instead...

2 out of 5 stars Not their "Live Best".......2002-01-05

Do not buy this album. Akira's solos are sloppy and unimpressive, and the overall sound quality (of the band) isn't that great either. The recording doesn't "flow" because they have jumped around and taken just enough songs to fill only one disc. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the 8186 Live and Live, Loud, & Alive in Tokyo recordings, the latter being their best live disc ever.
