D2's Best So Far.......2007-04-18

Danger Danger's second effort in 1991 established their very style wild yet refined solid rock. And it appeals to the general rock fans far deeper than the debut I bet. They tries to grab what it's like to be the kingdom of rock'n roll previously well sought by the number of rockers including Journey, Kiss, Def Leppard, Foreigner and Survivor. They blend the classic rock foundation with newer twists well tried by Gun's & Roses, Poison. Also Bon Jovi or early Lover Boy styled fun pop elements well tucked in.

MONKEY BUSINESS well represents what such D2 rock is. It's catchy yet wild side rock is burned hot. SLIPPED HER THE BIG ONE pursues the wild side further and fourth track mellows with acoustic ballad well memorable and remnicent of similar styled Firehouse's LOVE OF THE LIFETIME. Then the next track roars with wild and aggressive rocker GET YOUR S##T TOGETHER which is also refained in the last track D.F.N.S. And their drive goes again in CRAZY NIGHTS an uplifting roller coaster rocker. EVERYBODY WANTS SOME is really a classic tone somewhat like WHITESNAKE. The next one DON'T BLAME IT ON LOVE again a taste of classic rock somewhat like BON JOVI and LOVERBOY combined. Then they surges with killer ballad Gun's and Roses might excel. COMIN' HOME. Then HORNY SOB is wow punk pop somewhat like GREEN DAY.It's incredible that they still charm us with the final ballad FIND YOUR WAY BACK HOME. Last two tracks can be treated just as epilogues and some listeners can skip them. In a nutshell, this piece of rock work could be the best the era might ever have got.

Verdict: Underrated yet a masterpiece rock of 1991.
Rating: 97 out of 100. Without the last S##T tracks this could have been 100.
Recommended for: Wide range of late 80s to early 90s rock fans who also love 80s and 70s classic rock.

Absolutely Over the Top Hair Metal Gone Wild!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-09-29

This is one of my absolutely favorite hair metal albums of all time. I have no idea why this wasn't huge...oh, yeah, it was that "grunge" thing that killed all fun in music. Danger Danger's "Screw It!" is fun, completely over the top. Their first album was tame, it had a few good songs on it (like "Rock America", "Bang Bang") and some utter crud ("Naughty Naughty" with its annoying disco synth), but overall, it was okay. This is incredible. It really sounds like a different band, because you get a lot more of Andy Timmons' guitar and a lot less of Kasey Smith's keyboards. Instead of Europe/Journey, you get closer to Warrant/Poison...except more consistent, better songwriting, and way more fun. It's so over the top that you're tempted to think that they are making fun of hair metal, but the lyrics are just so outrageously juvenile and funny that they've just raised it to a new art form. Here's a breakdown:

1. Monkey Business (8.5/10): Solid hard rock tune about getting "Naughty Naughty" if you will--most of the whole album's about that. Chorus is a little staid, but some verse lyrics are quite clever (it takes one to know one, and baby I've known some, if you know what I mean...) The "Ginger Snaps" bit is just a tom-tom intro with a lot of samples; they could have skipped that.

2. Slipped Her the Big One (7.5/10): Yeah, they really are talking about what you think they are...again. This is more of a groove tune, where the rhythm section drives the song. It's a little unimaginative and the chorus is kind of flat compared to the rest of the album. You'll either love or hate the keyboard riff that sounds like whistling. But the sheer amount of masculine bravado involved here is staggering.

3. Beat the Bullet (9/10): Things are starting to pick up now...a hard rock song that's more serious. Has nice acoustic guitars layered in on the chorus. Ted Poley, the singer, shines on this one. The "C'est Loupe" part is an atmospheric prelude with keyboards that works quite nicely. Vain used this title, too.

4. I Still Think About You (10/10): Ahh...the ultimate acoustic hair metal ballad! Did Poison do "Every Rose" first? Yes, but this is a great song with a lot of emotion and great guitar tones. Very similar to Warrant's "Heaven", where the chorus slams in suddenly. Ted Poley is very emotional here, and carries this song quite nicely. The lyrics are simple, but heartfelt. About a girl he broke up with, but can't forget.

5. Get Your [...] Together (10/10): Upbeat boogie tempo...and something you've always wanted to say to someone, I'm sure. Starts with a sample from TV or a movie, and just breaks into a hard rocking, fun tune. David Lee Roth would be proud. Go ahead, play it and try not to smile. You can't.

6. Crazy Nites (11/10): My favorite song, pure hard rock bliss. Think of "Fallen Angel" by Poison, except instead of some whiny lyrics about hollywood's lost starlets, a cool tune about hanging out with your friends and "looking for some action", not having any money, but not caring. Andy Timmons rules on this. They even end by singing a bit from Janice Joplin's "Piece of My Heart", which has a similar chord pattern. It's just the ultimate I-don't-care-let's-party tune. You can't beat it, you won't. [Any pomo cultural studies people out there? This is what Barthes meant by "jouissance"--now clean it up...]

7. Puppet Show (8.5/10): Andy Timmon's solo guitar piece. Starts out with some fairly clean chromatic jazzy runs, and then someone else interrupts him, only to tell him to turn it up. Then he plays a lot of sweeping arpeggios and fast runs. Well done, not breaking any new ground. He never stops to let loose and put some emotional notes in, but he does that in a lot of other songs, and you'll be impressed by this. I like the whole setup of it. "Andy??? Andy!!! Come on, man, turn it up!" Timmons is a much more versatile player than he shows here.

8. Everybody Wants Some (9/10): Do not confuse with the Van Halen song of the same name. This has the same sort of groove as Warrant's "Cherry Pie", where the drums carry the tune, and the guitars punctuate it. The funniest, most adolescent lyrics on the whole album, but they're totally brilliant. Parody or Transcendence? You decide! (Can't live without it my obsession runs deep...well I say screw it, my mom and dad do it, and that's good enough for me...) I nearly fell on the floor when I first heard it.

9. Don't Blame It On Love (10/10): Hard rock tune, similar to a souped-up take on Pat Benetar, but with a lot of backing vocals. More serious, but a great tune. My favorite moment is when Ted Poley sings "I'm more than a face, baby, I've got a name" and then, as an aside, he says "But you can forget it". His attitude in that moment makes the song. The backing vocals on this song (Whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh) are deep, which makes it very interesting and somewhat unique for hair metal.

10. Coming Home (9/10): Don't confuse this with the Cinderella tune of the same name. This one's better. A mid-tempo song with strummed acoustic guitar throughout. Very much like Motley Crue's "Don't Go Away Mad" without the hard part. (And that's a good thing.) A nice, emotive song that is a lot more low key than anything else so far on the record. This wouldn't embarrass Bob Seeger or John Mellencamp, though it's not quite Mellencamp material.

11. H.S.O.B. (6/10): Another hard, fast song. In fact, the hardest thing on the record. (I'm going to leave that one where I found it...shame it's not a long song as well....) You want to guess what it's about? I'm sure the title told you already. Van Halen's "I'm The One" is about the right tempo to match, but this is just so blatently adolescent in comparison. Weird thing: Andy Timmons uses a talk box (you know, that Peter Frampton thing) on this song, which actually makes it interesting. Casual listeners should stop listening here and be completely satisfied.

12. Find Your Way Back Home (3/10): Uggghhh. Does a hair metal album really need three ballads? Does it need *two* with "home" in the title? This would have been better left off the record. It's overly sentimental and gushy. The wheezy keyboard sound is thin and gross. When the song picks up, it does sound a lot like the Beatles. They were trying something different here, and I'll give them credit for that. The song's not so bad when you get used to it, but your first reaction will be negative.

13. Yeah, You Want It! (8/10): This is a RAP song, and it even samples the song "Naughty Naughty" from their first record! This must have taken an unbelievable amount of courage to put on the record. They rap with a style that's exactly like the Beastie Boys. One guy imitates Ringo Starr at one point. It takes the requisite shot at Tipper Gore, and throws in references to L.A. Guns, Enough 'Z' Nuff, and Poison. It has a guitar solo in it, which actually blows the mood a little. But here they are, letting it all hang out, having a good time without their sound. This is irony, yet it affirms who they present themselves as, making me think the album is NOT a parody. If this song is a parody, it makes everything else seem serious. But this song is not a parody. It's a farce.

14. D.F.N.S. (10/10): I still can't figure out what the initials stand for. Anyway, it's a quick (presumably drunken) acoustic party rendition of "Get Your...Together". The perfect way to end the album. Parallels? White Lion's "Bee-bop-a-lula, she's my baby" right before they break into "All You Need Is Rock and Roll".

...so those are my thoughts. This is one of my favorite records of all time. The production is great and huge, the guitars are warm and crispy. The drums sound immense. There's not too much reverb. I hate the album cover, and I almost didn't buy it because of that. A lot of good hair metal records have pictures of the band on the cover, or an attractive female model, or a hot car, or a cityscape. This one sort of breaks the genre convention as far as artwork.

Ted Poley left after recording the follow-up to this record. The core of the band is the bassist and drummer, Bruno Ravel and Steve West. Those guys still record with another singer names Paul Laine. Andy Timmons frequently joins them. I haven't heard any of their newer stuff to compare, but you can order it from their website.

Verdict: If you like 80s bands, and you like music that's about having a good time (and not whining "What's This Life For?" or "I'm Still Alive") this is great stadium arena rock. It's a shame there aren't bands like this popular now. The closest thing we have is The Darkness, but that's not the real thing. This is. Buy It. Amen.

As a personal note, I saw Danger Danger live at Club Bone' in NJ before they broke up. I have also played some guitar in my day, so apologies if the review is a little guitar-centric.

Not bad, but this band really has better...........2004-04-01

I was 18 when this came out in 1992. I hung out with the band at New River Studios in Ft. Lauderdale when they recorded it and was a huge fan. The CD was delayed in coming out - and when it finally did (fall 1991), it didn't live up to they hype for me. Some fun tunes, but as a collective piece from that era, it lacked the punch their debut had. The hits and misses of "Screw It!"

Hits: Beat The Bullet, I Still Think About You, Crazy Nights, Don't Blame It On Love, Comin Home, Find Your Way Back Home

Misses: Everything else.

If you dig this band, scoop up their debut, self titled disk. 10 of the 11 tunes there are great.

I also recommend, "Cockroach" - a disk that was slated for release in 1993, but Sony pulled the plug. It was eventually released by the band on their website http://www.dangerdanger.com in 2002 and rocks. They include two versions of the disk - one with original singer Ted Poley and one with new singer Paul Laine. Both are great. Hits and misses:

I listened to this album again recently after purchasing when it came out. Even for this type of music it came across as way to cliched for the time and still sounds overtly juvenile. This was the final straw for a mate of mine who went from glam to death as a result. Still, they sound good and with a slightly different lyrical approach may have been bigger. A parody of the genre but no one told them.

Not by any means suffering from "Sophomore Slump" this release actually takes the party attitude from the first album, but removes the crappy keyboard sounds and adds much more guitar. It also sounds like they actually meant it on this album. If you have any doubts about the talent, check out "Puppet Show." Timmons is a SMOKIN' guitarist. All in all, this one really hits the mark, combining the party cheese of the first release with the darker, edgier sound of their later releases.

OMG, this is really not a very good CD... why would you want to buy a soundtrack for a horror movie anyway? and listen to people talk on it... honestly! It's really a pointless CD and a waste of money!

A search for David Hess turned up this CD, which he is NOT on. David contributed SIX songs to the Cabin Fever Soundtrack, including the closing credits. Do not buy this CD if you are expecting to hear David Hess music from the film, those songs are available separately from David Hess at his own .com

Awesom Stuff.......2003-09-19

The Cabin Fever soundtrack captures all the fun and insanity that makes the movie such a riot to watch. The soundtrack features a few cool songs from the movie (The Turtleneck's song is hilarious) as well as some well placed dialogue cuts, but for the most part this soundtrack is a show piece for Nathan Barr and Angeleo Badalamenti. Nathan's tracks are great mood pieces that work great with the film and would make great Holloween music if you need some for a haunted house. As far as Angelo's work goes...it's awesome. His stuff is more subtle than Nathan's work and its adds a nice contrast to the other tracks. Some tracks feel like they came straight out of Twin Peaks. Great stuff! I highly recommend this soundtrack!!

Don't be fooled! This Album SUCKS!
It was given one star for the fact that it's blondie related and it's neat to hear most of the more rare Blondie songs done in a "new" manner.

It says Blondie Tribute and is called: How Many Bands Does It Take to Screw up a Blondie Tribute?

Answer: ONE There is only one woman singing all 22 tracks under the disguise as 22 bands. It is apparent in the names that were chosen for the bands that they just pulled it out of a hat.
Chris Stein nor any other band member has given any sort of review on this. This was made purely for the fact that at it's time of release Tribute CD's were all the rage for Big artists.

IF YOU WANT A REAL BLONDIE TRIBUTE ALBUM check out "Platinum Girl". at least they actually have real artists and bands covering blondie.

No more Blondie Tribute albums ever.... PLEASE!!!!.......2006-02-20

First of all I am a huge Blondie FANATIC--I have almost everything EVER recorded on CD/LP/CS/DVD/VID/VCD etc. I have this an some other tribute albums and all I have to say is LISTEN to the sound clips EVERYONE--I did not have that option when I purchased this CD. I don't know why I bought it, maybe a weak moment (cuz I have to have everything even remotely related to Blondie), but TRUST ME this CD sucks. There are a couple of bright spots, original even, but overall it leaves one with the impression of "Why did they bother?". Stick to the original, you won't regret it.

Surprisingly great.......2005-10-11

I grew up breathing Blondie. There's no band whose music I know any better, and I consider this to be the best, most fun tribute album I know. I absolutely can't stand almost any other I've ever heard, but I've been listening to this one a lot.

Of course, none of them bests Blondie, but The Short Fuses' "Maria" comes close. Tuuli's "Accidents Never Happen" is crunchily bratty, and High School Sweethearts' "Living in the Real World" is its equal...but Debbie tore both those vocals up more herself.

I love it. And I can't believe I'm saying that about a cash-in tribute record.

ROCKIN', Stripped down and FUN.......2003-03-29

This is NOT a Blondie Album, but a Blondie TRIBUTE album. Most of them are indie rock bands just slamming 'em out in 4/4 style. More like the punk rock from Blondie's roots. Standouts are Squatweiller and The Kowalskis with more RIPPING versions than the original. Raw, as sometimes Blondie's power got killed by overproduction. BUY THIS if you love rock and roll and not the MUZAK versions of Blondie songs.

Honestly, I loved this tribute album from the minute I heard it. I love Blondie, and when I found the album, I was thrilled that some bands that I love were on it (Buck, the Beards, the Chubbies, etc...). I guess it really comes down to who is listening to it.I love almost anything put out by Sympathy For the Record Industry, and this is no exception.Even 2 of the members of Blondie approved it. I love the harder edge that songs are given, and the vocalists, while some do their best Deborah Harry impressions, mostly use their own voices...maybe some people would have prefered a tribute album with superstar bands, but as for me...this one was perfect.
